I came across this gem of a dive while in San Miguel for the weekend.  I was the only guy without a cowboy hat, but they welcomed me with open arms.  Lou, the bartender, did a wonderful job working the bar - always making sure you did not run dry.  Reasonably priced, minimal pour..

It is as country as you can get with a wood stove in the corner, dead animals, all with horns, on the walls.  There are several pool tables in the back out of the way for those wishing to play.  There is one tiny TV mounted on the wall, which everyone ignores for the most part.  I will be stopping here each month to take over the stool at the end of the bar.

I can't believe I haven't Yelped this place yet.... I've visited here numerous times.. whenever we stay in Paso Robles this is our go to spot... meet up with other friends who are visiting... quick shot and a beer before we go tasting and a shot of tequila and beer before dinner... you get the picture.

Last time I was in here we played the dice game where you had a chance to wine a jar full of cash.  The four of us took turns rolling dice... it was my turn but me being me... I told my friend Deb to go ahead... she rolls two 6s... she WON!  She took home all the cash in that jar... a few hundred!!! No joke.

This is one of those old school locals joints... they even treat the occasional  visitor who stroll though with care too.

Look forward to going back... always do when we are in town.

The ONLY honky tonk in town. Great place to mix it up. We have played there a few times and it was a blast!

I love me a good dive bar and this place delivers.  While I wouldn't necessarily hang with the scarier looking folks i pass at 10am smoking on the front bench, they do serve kettle one and that's a plus in my book!  the bathroom was clean-ish and that too is good!

The second oldest bar in the state has a friendly bartender and a rowdy but enjoyable local crowd.

Nothin' fancy.  The Elkhorn is like stepping back into some time past - not sure what time exactly, but you'll know what I mean.  The decor is cool - not just beer signs & sports bar hoo-ha.  Someone took some time to get it looking good without destroying the original patina.  Good beer selection, and they do have the PBR on tap so you know they not too bougie.  Bartenders are always good natured and friendly as are the patrons.  A great place to stop off for a nightcap on the way back from the Parkfield Cafe.

The Elkhorn is the oldest continuously operating bar in SLO County, and has been around for reportedly 150 years. It is the real deal, with animal heads on the walls, pool tables, a juke box, and an old bar with memorabilia tacked everywhere. It is a place to go socialize and DRINK. Most of the people are locals, but they do get their share of people passing through. I've always gotten a great vibe from the place, and you can get a glass of PBR on tap when the temp hits triple digits !
