Food is really good, but I have to give it 3 stars for the slow, inattentive service. Â We ordered 7 different plates with the fish tostadas ranking number one followed by the surprising chicken and waffles (the gravy was amazing!). Â We ordered the Kobe beef sliders medium and they came out medium rare. Â We sent them back and they came out well done. Â Unfortunate because there was a lot of potential there. Â We ordered the famous stuffed mushrooms.... While tasty, 2 stuffed mushrooms for 8 dollars is hardly worth it. Â Lobster Mac and cheese was definitely a nice surprise.... I have a hard time ruining seafood with cheese, but I think they do a fairly decent job.... A little salt and pepper made it even better! Â Coconut shrimp was good but the dipping sauce made it a great dish. Â The coconut batter could use some work, perhaps a little seasoning so the dish is not so dependent on the sauce. Â Last and unfortunately least was the scallops and basmati rice dish....blah! Â The scallops were over cooked and dry and the rice was drowned in truffle oil.... Very disappointing to say the least. Â Some definite great dishes here, but I would come between 4:30-6:00 to try their dishes at half price (except lobster dishes) that way you are not disappointed if the dishes do not meet your expectations. Â Cheers!
Review Source:There's nothing more I love than appetizers and dessert, so Embargo was the place for me. We got a good variety, including the lobster mac & cheese, lobster quahog, fish tacos, pulled pork carnitas tacos and oysters on the half shell. Their drinks were good, although my husband's first mojito was VERY sweet. Our waiter was very nice, if not a bit nervous/timid it seemed. They had live jazz which made it hard to hear, but even without the music it's a pretty loud place.
Make reservations as it was PACKED at 8pm on Saturday. We didn't have one thing we didn't enjoy and I'd make a trip here again.
Very good restaurant with a great ambience. However, for a self claimed tapas bar, the variety of dishes was quite limited for a Saturday lunch. Especially some classic tapas dishes like octopus and ham were missing. What was on the menu was very well prepared though.
Anyways, this is supposed to be more of a nightclub anyways so I'd probably avoid this for lunch.
I love this place. Â In a town where it is easier to get a crappy plate of fried clams than it is to get a taxi, Embargo is a delightful surprise. Â The food is great, they have a good bar menu, and the staff is very friendly. Â Their lobster mac n' cheese is wonderful, and the other dishes I have tried were also quite good. Â This is my favorite "date night" restaurant in Hyannis!
Review Source:Drinks, tapas and atmosphere were excellent. Unfortunately we were there with people under 21 so we didn't stay long but it's definitely a place to check out for great drinks and tapas! Be prepared to spend $$$ though! Only saw 4 or 5 entrées on the menu but the appetizers were plenty!
Review Source:Absolutely loved this place. The atmosphere was like a restaurant or lounge you'd find in a city, complete with club lighting, awesome bar and killer cocktails. The tapas were bigger than usual tapas are, so boyfriend and I only needed 3-4 plates altogether. Lamb lollipops, mussels and churrascaria loin steak were extremely good, along with the complimentary bread and olive oil which had 4 cloves of garlic in it! Cocktails were also exceptional, and later a cover band played and people were dancing and having a good ol time. We'll definitely come back again.
Review Source:Embargo went well above what we were expecting when we randomly stumbled across the restaurant yesterday. Â The decor was nice, service was knowledgeable/helpful and the food and drink went well above what we expected. Â We just went with appetizers (coconut shrimp, beef sliders and the hummus). Â All were exceptional and the shrimp and sliders were among the best I've ever tasted. Â Embargo also has a vast martini menu and although I'm usually a beer kind of guy, my wife convinced me to try one. Â That too was unbelievable. Â All in all our experience was amazing and we plan on coming back again soon.
Review Source:I really liked embargo, happy hour half off on their cold oysters comes to 1.25 a piece, you can load up on a bunch of them for a deal... and they are always cold and fresh!
I really liked the chicken salad lettuce wrap tappas , it was very good and I can't wait to get it again.
the baked oysters were good as well and I really enjoyed the nice hunk of short rib they give you which just melts in your mouth..
the stuffed mushrooms were so/so and didn't taste very good, I'd stay away from those in the future.
staff was attentive and friendly, however I didn't go while it was slamming busy so I'm not sure how they work under stress..
I will definitely be back! I can see this becoming a weekly thing!
This is mostly a nightclub with a huge bar and an early dining place. The tapas menu is diverse. Â
Drinks are ok, bartenders have an attitude. Some hokey nights with a roaming magician and karaoke. It is a fun atmosphere late night.
I would recommend this place for a large group to meet up for drinks  as the bar has plenty of seats.
UPDATE 5/1/13 : I will give it another try soon. I've heard there are a lot more GF options.
Their white sangria is really good, but much of their food is mediocre and overpriced. Â The part I really don't like is how all the bouncers act like it is some kind on high-end manhattan club and are pretty rude to everyone except for attractive girls. Â The DJ is hit or miss, but usually they play this really lame reggae routine on weekends and don't start with the dance music until about 2 hours before closing.
Review Source:Embargo is a bit of a trailblazer in small plate (6 years now). I have heard of friends stopping by for drinks but today was my first visit.
During my travels in Spain, I have come to appreciate tapas and sharing a meal that includes good wine and fine conversation. While the menu is an "Americanized" version of traditional tapas, they have fully embraced the dining concept.
I started with a nice Rioja while my partner went with a San Angelo Pinot. We were there at happy hour and indulged in half price plates. Oysters were yummy but I was focused on the Serrano Ham. In Spain, it is called jamón and is a national staple. This version was dry and left me a bit disappointed. For a finale, we indulged in the Kobe sliders. So let's be clear, it's really not Kobe but a cheap substitute that is in vogue. The glaze was slightly sweet with a nice spicy bite and the bun was superb. An inspired dish that I wonder would be better with Bison. Just a thought.
We will be back.
Nice decor and a great bar. Stumbled in without any expectations. The drink was fine, wine was served with a wet glass -- some attempt at chilling which was weird and the glass had to be wiped off. Along with the second glass -- never seen that before.
Meal:
Parmesan fries -- underdone (please put salt and pepper shakers on the tables)
vegetable tempura - "waffle batter" was the verdict. left unfinished.
Kobe Beef Sliders - why restaurants maintain the fiction of "Kobe" beef -- as if people are dim enough to think their hamburger got a daily massage and slept under the Japanese farmer's blanket is beyond me. kind of greasy, not good.
Spareribs: left unfinished.
Kobe Beef Chili -- molten magma with a cap of rubbery cheese and a flavorless sort of spaghetti sauce.
Verdict. Good place to try to get lucky at the bar. Food .... eh, not so much,
Atmosphere is trendy, dark, and ideal for some late night drinking fun. Â The bar is expansive and the list of cocktails is enticing.
However their tapas just didn't do it for me. Â First the sushi was absolutely horrible -- Â the rice was soggy, too sticky, and just tasted all wrong. Â I felt like I ate a giant wad of soggy rice. Â The mussels were okay but the broth was too bland for me. Â The stuffed mushrooms were good but small and not worth it. Â The shrimp scampi pizza had very little shrimp and tasted like frozen pizza -- overwhelmed with greasy cheese. Â The one thing I did like was the curried chicken wrap.
I would come back for cocktails & maybe the half priced happy hr tapas
Very, very average... Service was slightly slow and our last order took 15 minutes after we done our last... By then the "fulls" had set in and we doggie bagged it home.
The food is rather bland only one item stood out being slightly above the others - the Kobe Sliders... Other than that, live jazz was a bit loud and raised the volume of the entire place, we had to really push our voices to talk to each other... Over all - meh
My mom and I went to Embargo last night for dinner before a concert at the Cape Cod Melody Tent and were expecting great food, service and most of all oysters based on everything that we read about it, both on yelp and other places. When we arrived around 6pm there were two tables available in their outdoor dining area - one a two top and one a four top. We were told though we were the only ones there getting a table that we could only have the two top which was in a less desirable portion of the outdoor area because you need at least three people to grab the four top table. Fair enough right? Well we are then seated next to a couple that is sitting at a four top which contradicted all reason the host provided, not cool, but whatever we were hungry and got over it immediately.
Next came the waiting game to see if anyone would come to serve us. We experienced many waitresses walk by us and help other patrons but for some reason we were neglected. Finally after two or three forays past our table over a span of 10 minutes we were greeted, if you call it that. No name given and noticeably less vigor than the same waitress had shown the multiple tables she was serving prior to greeting us.
We immediately ordered oysters knowing we were hungry and that the onslaught of the $1 oyster happy hour had ended so we would be in good shape to get our dozen relatively quickly. The reality was that our oysters took longer than one would think possible to shuck 100 oysters let alone 12. Our drinks came with no mention of timing on the oysters which was fine and at the same time we ordered tapas. After the order was placed we didn't get as much as a glance our way, but about 20 minutes later our scallop tapa arrived, again with no mention of the oysters. We had to ask her if the oysters had been rung in as it was now about 30 minutes after we ordered them and no oysters were seen.
The scallops were absolutely amazing! They were perfectly seared atop parmesan truffle basmati rice with honey drizzle. Looking back I'm so glad this came first, and you'll see why in a second.
We cleaned the scallop plate and just as that was done our oysters finally came out, and so did our Kobe beef sliders. When the oysters were set on the table they looked like they had been mutilated. The normally beautiful plump oyster meat was all cut up and shredded by what I think was an attempt to shuck and detach them from the shell. Needless to say not an appetizing site. Then when I was about to try my first one, it started moving! At the top of the oyster shell masked by the shredded oyster meat was a reddish figure that's legs we're trying to break free. There was a live crab in the oyster! I'm not a skittish person especially when it comes to food but when Mr. Crab was a short leap from my tongue, my stomach turned.
I told the waitress of the little critter and in true fashion, she laughed. And  then said I'll get an extra one. Let's take a step back here, there is a live animal in my food and there is no concern, no apologizing, but there's laughter. And to clarify its not extra since I won't be having the crab laden bivalve.
To end this story that I guess has become more of a rant, we didn't even finish the oysters because they were so disturbing to look at let alone slurp down - besides the fact they tasted off, we're gray and extremely gritty. We ate our mediocre sliders and were done.
My recommendation is if you are in Hyannis looking for oysters, Embargo isn't the best option. At least last night it wasn't. The drinks were good and the scallop dish was amazing, but the service and raw bar left much to be desired.
For serious, one of the best nights of food on the Cape yet!! Â Thursday, 5pm
I've been here at night for cocktails and dancing but this year was the first time I tried the tapas at happy hour. Â With the 1/2 price from 4:30 to 6 (or all night 4-11 on Tues) Â you cannot go wrong! Â I wouldn't pay full price for these only b/c our bill would have racked up to over 120$ but at half price I was game!
My sis, cousin and I went nuts ordering so don't judge us...
--truffle& parm fries (not half price tho)
--red pepper hummus
--salmon brushcetta (sp?)
--cod fingers
--tempura vegetables
--stuffed mushrooms
--scallops & honey drizzled basmati rice
--kobe beef sliders
--sirloin steak slices
.....and I'm pretty sure that was it, ALONG with my 8$ white sangria.
Our orders were put in and within 5 mins, we had our first app. Â Not kidding now....every other plate came out within 5 mins of each other. Â We literally had ALL the plates on the table at one point, feeling like such fat-asses and yet like kings.
EVERYTHING was killer good! Â Even my cousin who is a strictly ketchup, spagetti, fries, hot dog, kinda girl tried a bunch and liked most!
I was in heaven with the food and we left completely and happily food drunk.
The only DOWNGRADE-- the sangria.  I felt like I was drinking OceanSpray white cranberry juice.  My 16 yr old cousin tried (a total lightweight who doesn't like alc-heavy tastes, obviously) thought it tasted like juice as well.  Not quite worth the  money for the liquor if I'm basically paying for a sippy cup drink. Food is better spent for the 8$ anyway hahaha....FAVORITE was def mushrooms and salmon brush  :D
Embargo was hands down the best meal we ate on the Cape. This place just has a nice vibe to it when you come in, with modern decor, comfy booths and extremely friendly and helpful staff.
As for the food, it was the best part. Since it's tapas style, our waitress recommended we order 5 dishes. So many things looked good we ended up ordering 7 dishes! It was also half off the majority of the tapas dishes with the exception of anything that had lobster in it. Good deal!
-Sushi dish, the specifics of which I cannot recall, but it was pretty good.
-Jumbo Mushrooms stuffed with Manchego & Goat Cheese, baked in Spanish Sherry Sauce, this dish was amazing! Everything cooked perfectly and bursting with unique flavors. Probably my favorite dish of the night!
-Lobster Mac & Cheese Baked with Boursin, Parmesan and White Cheddar, another great dish, but very filling.
-Braised Short Rib with red wine La Mancha sauce & cool Tomato Escabeche, nice dish, but didn't stand out among the others.
-Fish Tostadas, Local Cod , Chili Aioli, Lime Cabbage Pico de Gallo & White Corn Tortilla, this was another spectacular dish. We both obliterated the fish tacos and agreed it was one, if not the best dish of the night. Great flavors, beautiful plating and nice textures.
-Baked Oysters Casino with Red & Yellow Peppers, Bacon, Boursin and Parmesan Cheese, if you love baked oysters this is a great dish. My BF cleaned the plate.
-Kobe Beef Sliders w/ Crispy Bacon, Pickled Red Onion & Chipotle Ketchup w/Cheese, super delicious. Some of the best sliders we've ever tasted.
And as if our gigantic feast wasn't enough, we ordered the Plate of Local Artisan Cheeses to go in order to nicely compliment our wine back at our bed and breakfast. Cheeses were great, one hard and crumbly, one soft and buttery, and it also came with some fresh fruit.
On our next trip to the Cape, we will definitely be stopping here.
So I don't usually say anything if I don't have anything nice to say, but I went here on a galloping herd of yelp affection. I would like to spare you the same experience.
Enter trendy, hip, modern, tapas on the Cape; I don't know about the big screen fish animation when the Celts are on, but I'll forgive that for now.
Start with sangria; the traditional red was tasty, not too sweet, but unfortunately it was not strong enough to redeem the rest of the meal.
It was at this point, I asked to have the fan turned off above my table as it was 50 degrees outside with the wind blowing off the north Atlantic. Â Shortly, my charming server informed me that she could not turn the fan off per the manager.
At this point my date and I ordered the following: garlic crostinis, artisan cheeses, stuffed mushrooms, short ribs, escargot, and oysters on the half shell, in no particular order.
First: Of the things that we ordered, what would you imagine/desire first? Â How about, anything but the freakin' short ribs. Â Braised, served over mashed potatoes with brown gravy, cherry tomato confit, and a crostini, there was just one glaring problem: where is the salt? Think about this dish, you cannot over-season it. Everything in it loves salt.
Second: the "crostini" [tostada] came next with a salsa fresca. In addition to being woefully misnamed, the salsa screamed of amateur knife work and lacked acid and, surprise, salt.
At this point, the fan is still on,
Third: manchego and chèvre stuffed button mushrooms. Pretty dish, great texture, but there mush be a salt shortage on the cape this year.
At this point, the fan is STILL ON!
Fourth: Beautiful drizzle of balsamic reduction, nice slices of manchego topped with a perfect pat of jam, nice slice of brie, sounds lovely? How can you screw this up? Start with a roll of chèvre shaped a la seagull crap and accompany it with Krispy Saltine Crackers. Yes, the square ones with the holes and perforated edges; I can't make this stuff up. This is now the third bread product we have seen, either of the first two would have sufficed, but I don't want freakin' Saltines unless I'm curled up at home with chicken noodle soup.  It was at this point, Chef, you lost me, and I regretted my next order.
Fifth: Escargot, not hot, rubbery, clearly sat in the window.
At this point, every fan in the restaurant is off, except the one over my freakin' head. My nipples could shuck my...
Sixth: Oysters. There was nothing wrong with the oysters or their presentation, but what the heck took 30 minutes to shuck and plate 4 oysters? This should have been the first dish, not the last.
And the freakin' fan is still on, somebody get me a mint to get this meal out of my mind.
Had a great dinner here this past Saturday night. We were seated in a very cute booth right beside the bar. It was restaurant week and the menu had some great options. I won't list everything we got but I will say the lobster mac n cheese was the highlight. The portions were huge for tapas and we couldn't even finish our third plate.
Service was great, martinis were even better and the live jazz music was a nice touch!
Probably one of my favorite places during my visit at the Cape. Staff is friendly and helpful with the menu. I went on a Tuesday and they have half price Tapas. The food is impressive. Pretty extensive menu (ask your bartender for tapas that might not be on the menu). The Kobe burger has gotta be the best tapas on the menu. The fish tostadas and PEI mussels are also very enjoyable. Their signature fruit infused vodka (strawberry or pineapple) is somewhat diluted. Try the sangria instead.
The decor is nice considering the area. It reminds me of a trendy lounge back home in NYC. There is a DJ booth near the entrance of the restaurant. The bartender told me it gets pretty crowded when this place turns into a club on the weekend (There is a cover charge). Parking in the area is relatively easy.
First off, parking is a little difficult in the area of this restaurant. Â Secondly, the server could not help us with our order due to her and two much, much older men flirting for over 10 minutes while we just sat there waiting and watching....yuck! Â
Finally, the food. Â The food saves this place. Â The cheese plate was terrific as well as our other dishes which included steak, garlic shrimp, mussels and pomme frites with chipotle ketchup! Â I also ordered their strawberry infused vodka martini....very strong but good! Â The food is the only reason that I am not giving this restaurant 2 stars.
Tapas on Cape Cod? Not the first thing you'd think of. But during our 7-night stay in Hyannis, we needed at least one break from the traditional seafood dinner. We spotted this place on Main Street while shopping and thought it looked interesting... and after consulting with fellow Yelp-ers, decided we should give it a shot.
While a lot of the seafood we had on the Cape was amazing, I have to say emBargo ranked up there as possibly my favorite dinner of the trip. I'm a sucker for tapas - but these were just to die for... and the experience was unparalleled.
When we arrived, we were instantly greeted by our very friendly waiter, who helped us make our decisions all evening - from the best tasting drinks and tapas to where to go later in the evening after dinner. He was a genuinely nice guy who cared about his customers - and we really appreciated it.
So on his recommendation, we started with a pitcher of delicious Sparkling Sangria. Different choice that I would not hesitate to recommend to ANYONE. The burst of bubbles was so refreshing, it just added an extra zing to the traditional white Sangria.
Then came the tapas. We ordered in stages... and while we were getting really full, we just couldn't get enough. Here's what we tried:
- Coconut Shrimp (To. Die. For.)
- Fish Tostadas (We were skeptical of these, but our waiter told us they were a favorite and we wouldn't be disappointed... we ended up ordering another plate.)
- Seasonal Vegetables (These were coated in batter and fried... the best way to eat veggies, no?)
- Baby Back Ribs (Unbelievable. The BBQ sauce and the fruit on top were just a marriage made in heaven)
- Mussels (Delicious, but pretty standard)
- Braised Short Rib (Melts in your mouth. No really. It melts in your mouth. I could eat 5 of these and be happy with my dinner. Ok, maybe 6.)
We also each had an oyster, which was delicious as well.
Oh, and they have some really great specials on certain nights of the week. We ended up ordering another bottle of wine on top of the Sangria to take advantage of the "deal du jour" - but we missed out on the 1/2 price tapas that they offer on Tuesday nights. Still well worth it though, and I stand by my 5-star review even with everything at full price!
Perhaps I'm just spoiled since I recently came back from a month in Spain... but honestly the tapas here aren't that great. They're not horrible- I mean, I still ate them, but just really blah... like it's clear they don't put that much effort into their dishes. (I had the stuffed mushrooms, stuffed dates, and garlic shrimp)
The sangria was pretty good though- I like that they put peach slices in it.
They gave us dirty plates- twice.
They also messed up our order several times.
Other than that though I will say that the one redeeming quality about Embargo was our waiter- he was really nice and attentive and very apologetic when things weren't correct or when the plates were dirty.
I just probably won't be coming back anytime soon.
Love Embargo!
The food is yummy.... I dig the Tapas menu.... I get to taste all different things. I only eat seafood & the definitely cater to my diet. I love the scallops minus the bacon. The dessert are good too. Peanutbutter torte....yum yum!
Service is great. Workers come around and clear the table so it doesn't get junked up.
I do not drink, but the martini list rocks. I love to go there and see my friend's fancy cocktails.
Generally an upscale crowd....which I like. Occasionly some 'hood' people wander in. I know I have to share my space, but it kills me to see their boxer shorts and cig butts hanging out of their mouths! I don't like to see any butts when I am paying $9 to eat two scallops. =)
Bethany S. was our waitress
Sushi rice was under cooked, no enough soy sauce or ginger for all they ordered...one of the rolls came warm which is strange unless your serving frozen and defrosting it..... We asked for butter and waited 30 minutes bread was gone by them... The meals came out at different times and we watched other eat as we waited for our.. I asked for salt and waited my burger sliders was almost gone before I got the salt,,, She asked me if I wanted cheese and said yes and told me it would be a $1.00 more and when they arrived the cheese was the size of a postage stamp for a 1.00 ??... we spent almost $80.00 and was not worth what we got my wife and daughter go else where in town every week as they enjoy and were very disappointed.
11/19/2010
The manager of Embargo's contacted me and gave us a full refund and ask us to give it a second chance,,, I was there on Wednesday with a Chamber of Commerce and we stayed for dinner food was good and waiter was all over us... I thought it was good that the manager turned a disappointed meal into a positive situation
I work at a restaurant on Cape Cod, and about 2 dozen of us decided to go out to the Brazilian Grill in Hyannis for dinner one night. After an exceptional dinner, half of us stayed to do some bar hopping. Embargo was the second bar we went to, and completely ruined our night.
6 guys showed up first. All Jamaican. They went and sat at the bar to get drinks. About 8 of us came in a minute later (all white, besides one), and the hostess told us we could grab some tables in an empty section. We we having a great time all around, and excited to hear the band and dance. The cocktail menu looked great, and I was so excited when I got my drink. A few sips in, my coworker, one of the Jamaican guys (who I have worked SIDE BY SIDE with for the last 6 months... a truly kind, stand up guy), comes over to tell me the bar won't serve him, or any of the other guys, because he has a driver's license from Jamaica as an ID.
I proceed to go as the door staff about this, as it surely must have been a misunderstanding. One of the girls (white) at the tables with us had an ID from the Virgin Islands, and was served no problem. Another girl had shown her ID (from Brazil), and hadn't ordered a drink yet, but also hadn't been told she wouldn't be able to. Now, I've worked in bars in Boston, and have never said no to an out of state ID. What the FOH manger told us was that people were required to show a MA ID, or a passport, or a backup photo ID with their out of state ID.
Well, giant debate ensued. All the Jamaican guys left, not really caring one way or the other, and not wanting to cause problems. However, the rest of us wanted more information. The door guy, when asked if this policy was posted, rudely told us, "I dunno. Check that wall of paper and see if you find anything." He also told us that maybe we should consider going somewhere else; this wasn't working out for him.
I do not joke when I stress how RUDE the entire staff was about this situation. No one I was with was yelling, or being aggressive, just simply saying that this looked like racism, and we wanted to know where the paperwork stating their policy was.
Some rude things overheard by staff members during this debacle:
"What's with all these sketchy Jamaican dudes?"
"Wow, they're really coming up in the world, eh?"
I was even MORE appalled when I discovered the next day that two of my Jamaican friends DID SHOW MASSACHUSETTS STATE DRIVER'S LICENSES, and were still refused service.
I urge everyone out there, to please take a stand against this kind of racism and behavior at Embargo. Not to mention they were overpriced and snobby, and that drink I was so excited about... didn't even taste that good. This was by far, the WORST experience I'd ever had in any restaurant or bar.
I still like this place a lot, but the last time we were there, it was a Friday night and I thought I had been teleported from Hyannis to the Jersey Shore. It looked like an Ed Hardy convention and there was enough greasy hair to make the Gulf oil spill look like nothing.
We had a great time and the people watching was pretty spectacular.
This is easily the best Tapas place in America. Â I have been to Spain- I've had good Tapas. Â This restaurant has GREAT tapas!
The place gets busy, so make a reservation or get there early! Â It's worth it to wait though as you won't get food this good in many places (anywhere!).
The lamb lollipops are my favorite ($3 a pop). Â The edamame is also delicious!
The sangria is amazing!!! Â I'm a huge fan of the sparkling sangria and white sangria. Â So wonderful tasty and fantastic! Â Best I've ever had!
The atmosphere is palpable in a great way. Â The place is hectic, but has a nice vibe. Â The wait staff is wonderful and very attentive!
Yes, it's pricey, but you most certainly get what you pay for and so much more.
Very odd vibe - not very welcoming.
The jazz trio is good the drinks are good BUT what is up with the smell
commercial cafeteria gas smell and bland food. I am sure people will appreciate the swank decor and low lighting but I cannot recommend the food. We ordered the oysters - they were served warm? in shells that were not the originals and were scrubbed of any flavor and juice - prepared oysters at the cape? I assume they don't get them locally which is so odd. Harry is a good bartender but the others are a bit off and not very friendly. The nicest people were the musicians ( I do agree the bathrooms are five stars).
My friend and I checked out Embargo on a recent Saturday night. Â When we got there it wasn't too busy and we sat at the bar. Â Embargo uses the word tapas loosely -- these are small plates, not traditional Spanish tapas. Â But the tapas were super delicious -- we got the cheese plate (goat, Brie, and Manchego with fruit chutney), the sirloin with the fruit sauce (so good we got a second order of it), the crab cake, and the orange ginger creme brulee. Â We also had martinis made out of their pineapple infused vodka -- delicious and *strong.*
When we left around 10:30 it was beginning to get kinda loud in there. Â I can see how other reviewers might have become tired of that kind of atmosphere.
So I went to the happy hour with 99-cent oysters and half-price tapas...who could resist? Â Even with the discount I found the prices rather pricey, but then again I am cheap. Â There really aren't options when it comes to tapas on the Cape. Â As a matter of fact, in winter there aren't all that many restaurant options at all. Â
Everything we had at embargo was very good. Â My favorite was probably the lamb chop lollipops. Â The brie filled dates with prosciutto were interesting and I think I liked them. Â They oysters were right on, and the waitress' suggestion of using the wasabi from our pepper encrusted ahi with them for a change from horseradish was mighty smart.
There were three kinds of sangria available, and the sparkling version I chose was made with Cava and fresh fruit. Â It went amazingly well with the food!
I plan to try Embargo again this spring or summer with a new atmosphere and some new cash.
