...This review reflects my experience there 2 years ago...
I went there with an X-Girlfriend and her family on a warm summer day. The ambiance was fantastic! The river running by our table set a really nice mood, plus Michael Hearne was playing cool tunes on his guitar.
I ordered the green chile burger, which was fantastic (although $11 is pretty steep for a burger), and my X's mother's mango lamb tacos were also very tasty. I don't remember what everyone else got.
Overall my experience was awesome, and I will definitely be down to come back next time I'm in NM during the summer.
Don't bother. Too many rules benefitting the staff and not the customer. The food is mediocre at best. Their hours of operation are quirky. Â Too bad they won't let you just have a drink by the river and enjoy the outstanding view--another of their rules. Should be under new ownership by next year since I don't see them lasting very long.
Review Source:We used enjoy going to Embudo Station and haven't been there for about 3 years. Â Saturday afternoon seemed like a good road trip up the Taos canyon. Â While everything looks and feels the same, it is just a "high-dollar" burger joint. Â Seriously, burgers start at around $11 and go up. Â We shared the 'Chimayo' burger and a salad, had a canned soda, and a murky iced tea. The tasteless burger had a small piece of tasteless green chili, and a teaser of some kind of tasteless cheese, no lettuce, no tomato, mayo, mustard, ketchup, or pickle. Â Must be a 'purist' thing. Our wait person never offered to refill the tea 'jar', and we took a pass on dessert. Â There may have been 1/4 pound of meat, (pre-cooked) but I sincerely doubt it. Â Hamburgers at Blake's or Sonic are easily far superior to any burger Embudo is serving today. Total cost before tip was $21 and change. Â I know next time we travel the low road to Taos, we will glance to the west as we pass Embudo Station, and remember what it used to be, but we won't be stopping there again. Â Honk and wave as you drive by. Â Sugars' Â is less than 1/2 mile away.
Review Source:The 'new' Embudo Station has superb fresh local food in a sublime location by the river. Â We took a special trip from Santa Fe to try it out for lunch.
We each had burgers in various iterations, and they were among the best we ever tasted. Â I started with their cucumber gazpacho which was also excellent.
To finish we had some freshly baked pies with freshly whipped cream, all sourced locally. Excellent meal, super service, fab peaceful location!
Note to locals: they don't take checks, not even local ones!
Fabolous! Stopped here on a recent road trip from Santa Fe to Denver. I had planned on eating in Taos, but my mom insisted that we stop at Embudo Station and I am so glad that we did. This place has everything you could ask for: a fresh local menu, fabulous atmosphere and views, incredibly friendly staff, quick service, and delicious food at reasonable prices.
If you care about what you eat, where it comes from, and how it's prepared, you will not want to miss this stop. I can't wait to go back!
What I'd recommend is stopping here for drinks and maybe an appetizer, enjoying the best it has to offer, then driving up to Taos for dinner.
Pros: Fantastic location- it is about 6 miles from the County Line and has a place where you can pull your small boat out of the river. You can do a long paddle down the river and recuperate here. It is also easily accessed from the road. Â There is very nice live music on the weekend (I like the man with the harp). Lovely view, it is so peaceful to have the river flowing past you. Bring a jacket as it can be chilly in the evening.
Cons: the food always sucks (for years it has been sucking). Every time I've come it has been- at best- mediocre. Â Last time I got a hamburger that was rock hard with a bun that disintegrated and a green chili pinned to the top of the mess. The meat was coal black on the outside yet by some feat, raw in the inside. The chicken soup had a thick layer of oil floating on top. The salad had a nice mix of stuff but was a bit past its prime. I tried to get an after-dinner cup of coffee, apparently you can only have coffee when the coffee shop up the hill is open.
Located alongside the Rio Grande (more like a creek in these here parts) and nestled among the majestic cottonwoods; this little place with fabulous outdoor seating is an oasis for any road tripper/biker cruising along the winding roads of Northern New Mexico.
Great selection of beers (try the Santa Fe Wheat) and food (we had the burger and cedar plank trout) and competent friendly service, this place is a MUST for anybody traveling the area. Â Forget the tourist traps of Santa Fe and Taos. Â This is where it's at. Â Yummy!!!
This is now on our list of traditional stops when riding in this part of NM. Â Although I liked the fact that they weren't very busy, I want to see them succeed and be around for a very long time so here's a suggestion: Market your joint to the local motorcycle dealerships and promote yourselves as a great biker stop on a scenic route.
