I must have been mistaken when I ordered the pancakes. Â My god are they huge!
The charm of this place comes from how divey it looks on the inside. Â Wood paneling that you can find in any area building in this town. Â Lacy curtains by the window, regular looking tables with the typical chairs. Â The lone worker that day (sad, but she was by herself, she handled it well) greeted us as soon as we walked in the door. Â Very cheery, like that one person that was always happy in the morning to see you.
After being told to sit wherever we wanted, she handed some menus, took our drink orders and then made swift work around the room to fill up everyones coffees. Â Once she returned, we placed our orders and away she went again.
When the food came out I think I said something along the lines like, "Damn!" Â Think IHOP, but made fresh. Â I ordered two pancakes, two bacon strips, two scrambled eggs and home fries. Â The plate with the eggs, bacon and home fries was decent sized and filled to the brim. Â This also came with toast. Â Then came the behemoth of a plate. Â The pancake plate. Â These particular pancakes were as big as my face and at least a half inch think. Â They were so fluffy and tasty that it felt like a criminal act to not finish them, but it was impossible.
The price was a bit hefty, but after realizing we ordered a hefty meal, it evened out. Â Definitely will stop here to try other things for other meals.
Not sure why the other reviewer only gives this place 2 stars. Â I've been here several times. Â I love the atmosphere (friendly service, always full of local patrons), even if it is a little divey. Â Erma Jean's does a simple diner-style breakfast right. This place is nothing fancy, but if you're in Barnesboro/Northern Cambria in the morning, stop in and give Erma Jean's a try!
