Great experience at Ernie's over Labor Day weekend! Â We found Ernie's through Yelp, and for those of you from the Twin Cities, if you like Maynard's or Lord Fletchers, you'll love Ernie's on Gull Lake.
When we arrived at 8:00 PM on Friday we overheard someone say that it was an hour wait for food. Â On a holiday weekend, we weren't shocked but thought our best bet would be to take seat at the bar to get drinks and dinner. Â Here's the skinny:
- Drink selection for a chick and cider snob is AWESOME (Ace Pear, British Crispin in the can among others)
- Great service, staff at the bar was amazing
- Very quick, was under 15 minutes for our food, even though it was the Friday of Labor Day weekend
- Walleye fingers were awesome, definitely get these
- Lobster bisque was very good and had chunks of seafood
- Walleye sandwich was alriht (skip it and get the fingers and add fried)
- Bloody Mary was good (use Mr. Z's)
- Greenie is not like Tony Jaro's, skip it
After having our meal we walked outside. Â To our surprise there was live music by Seth Doud playing (and really good live music at that)! Â We couldn't resist so we grabbed another drink and sat our buns in their adirondack chairs, watched the waves, and soaked in the great live music, company, drink selection, service and food.
Ernie's was the best place we ate at during a recent vacation on Gull Lake. Â The menu is simple but the food is made with care and delicious. The BBQ prime rib sandwich special was excellent as were the house made potato chips (who does that? Â no need to "upgrade" to fries). Â The service also warrants special recognition for professionalism, friendliness, and efficiency. Â We were there on a sweltering afternoon and Emily refilled drinks and waters before we even had to ask. Â This is a first class operation, don't miss it if you're in the area.
Review Source:My last review was from our first visit in  February and it was 20 below. Over this past weekend we made this our go to hangout.  Super fun place to eat or sip beers in the summer. Friday night we were able to watch the sunset  on Gull lake while enjoying my excellent ribeye.  Saturday night  we sat and listened to live music.  Doesn't get much better than that!
This is the place to be on a gorgeous day when in the area!!
Ernie's is a family favorite. We eat there once a year when we're up at Gull Lake. We typically go a little before 5:00 on a weeknight so its very family friendly. Not sure about later. The kids love boating over and the food is pretty good. The only downside is that they seem (?) to have re-done the menus and bumped the prices up significantly. The walleye fingers are great, but pricey for an appetizer. Bottom line: It's not cheap for what you get, but it's tasty and fun. And the view is great.
Review Source:We visited Ernies all three days we were in Brainerd. Â What a great place!
Located on Gull Lake, good food, great drinks, beautiful view, what more can you ask for? Â Live music on the weekends & a DJ late night. Â My bf & I had an amazing time tearing up the dance floor & drinking Surly on tap. Â The UV vodka girls were out one night & whipped up some interesting shots :) YUM! Â Love Ernies & will go each time @ least once when we go to Brainerd :)
I like this place mostly for the view - the outdoor patio is awesome. Â I try to go early to avoid the frat boy scene that seems likely to erupt at any moment. Â Service is always hit or miss at these resort area places during peak season, but the service was good for the two visits we made - both friendly and stopping by often to check in. Â Worth checking out.
Review Source:1. Â The kid that was probably kicked out of his frat house had 2 people at the outside bar. This being to many people for him to handle, it took him 10 minutes to make a Greeny and pour a light beer. Â $12 Â Â -1*
2. The Greeny was wrong. It is concocted with a powder that gives it its name. They were out of the powder and failed to tell us this. Â -1*
3. We found our own spot outside at one of the tables on the grass. Our server was pleasant but by no means present.
4. We ordered peel-n-eat shrimp and fish tacos. The shrimp was generic and overpriced. The fish tacos were mediocre and fell apart through the corn tortillas. Â $24 Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â -1*
5. We shared these dishes.....so come on and give me an extra plate.
6. Due to my boyfriends birthday that day, we asked for a bday shot. Once again our server was pleasant but gave him a complimentary shot. Or Patron                                            +1*
