Went to this bar a few days ago with some buddies and were IMMEDIATELY heckled by two of the "regulars." They instantly approached our table and started talking to our girl friend in a rude manner. We could tell that the man was severely intoxicated and was looking for trouble. Little did he know, a few of us had a certain set of skills that could put this guy in the hospital in less than five seconds. He got in our face and said "I need to make a phone call. I'm going to call SJPD for YOUR best interest." Knowing that this situation would end up pretty bad, we decided to be the more mature individuals and leave the bar. Beware of this place before you decide to  enter, as some of the regulars are extremely territorial. After the incident the bartender was extremely apologetic, and the bar owner invited us back for a free drink. Thanks, but no thanks. Luckily for the guy (man in his 40's-50's wearing a red sweatshirt) his testosterone and stupidity didn't leave him waking up in a coma a week from now with a new lesson learned. BEWARE of this bar
Review Source:I recently really enjoyed my time at the escape, the drinks were greatly priced and the crowd is very welcoming there.everybody smiling and having a great time, free pool, happy hour allll day,and my bartender,at the time,Jamie, was one of the best I've met in a long time, and very good looking a plus from your regular dive bars, her uplifting personality will DEFINATLY bring me back again with more friends to enjoy again
Review Source:Wow has this bar changed.. It used to be a fun bar where a person can feel safe and have a good time, but since the change in owners it has turned into a biker and anything go's bar and the owner friends are acting like they run place. A year ago this place was five stars but now I hate to give it one star. There are other dive bars around that are better go there instead.
Review Source:I never thought it was possible to love a whiskey sour so much until I met Roger. He makes the best damn whiskey sour I have ever had, so much that I order at least one extra every time because it just tastes so good. Decent prices, typically something good on the tv, and Roger will usually offer to make you some popcorn :)
Review Source:For years this place has been a mainstay because of their friendly Barstaff, cheap drinks, free pool, and loyal regulars. Â So that's the up-shot!
a TouchTunes jukebox means that depending on the crowd you could be listening a wide variety of music though many regulars tend towards punk, metal, and pop-country. But for a buck you can hear any song in the Touchtunes catalogue to break up the monotony.
This place used to be a SOLID five stars for being the best little dive bar in town...
The Escape changed hands a while back. Â The new owner is a stand up guy but his friends walk about with puffed up chests. Â Slowly this place is turning into a bit of a white power biker bar. Â And that's the downside...
It was always divey...now it's getting seedy.
If being hit on by your ex-best friend from high school's wife, a friend who you haven't seen in 15 years, and at the time you don't know she is his wife, but after you get to her house and after you bang her you see your ex-best friend's picture on her nightstand is considered a normal every day occurance for you, then you'll fit right in at this premiere watering hole "The Escape." Rumored to once be a gay bar back when there were still blind, sunglasses sporting twins in three piece suits rocking back in their chairs at "Iron Eagle" screenings at the Plaza, "The Escape" is straighter now than the prison yard at San Quentin, sporting a parking lot full of "MAN JOSE" staples such as, GMC dual cab trucks, suped-up dirt bikes and the occasional unlocked bicycle from the guy who got his 4th DUI leaving the "The Escape" just a month prior.
The staff is friendly, and the drinks reasonably priced, but I recommend "The Escape" for it's ex-best friend-wife-f**king factor, which is served up here on tap nightly along with a jukebox that can download everything from MC HAMMER to Cannibal Corpse.
So why not take a vacation, or albeit, an "Escape," and try to unleash your fantasy of actually having your ex-best friend's wife call out her husband's name as you knock that stuffed Shark's bear your ex-best friend won her on their first date off that dresser and into the trash! 5 Stars.
Boy, this sure seems like an escape for reality for some of the locals here lol. Great value for what you order, I guess. It is a pretty chill bar. I had l1 pint of a Woo Woo andthen 1 pint of a Long Island, and 1/2 pint of PBR. Oh man...I'll never do that again! Good place to hang with friends after a long day of work though!
Review Source:Great place to hang out and eat AND especially DRINK.... I always meet great people every time! Sometimes I do shot with random strangers....
Great music on the Juke- Good views on the many, many Flat screen Televisions, Free internet...what else does a girl need?? Â Free pool! Woot Woot- fun and friendly place.
They have football special BBQ's and many other activities.
The bartenders are great, efficient and friendly- How can you not like that??
Just get your butt down here!
This used to be the place we'd see all the bikers and old people walk out of while we were tapping shoulders across the street at Charlie's Jiffy Market...good times.
Anyway, I jokingly asked my friend if he wanted to get some brews after work last Friday, and he said..."sure wherever", and I was thinking he was full of it and I said, "let's go to the Escape"...he said..."I'm down". I said..."oh sh!t" The guy runnin the jukebox was playing some wack butt-rockin type stuff, but I actually knew a ton of songs so it was good chuckles
Regardless, we went there with a few friends, a customer of ours. The place is actually pretty cool. Also...the bartender was very sweet. I had a broken glass of High Life and started drinking, luckily no cuts in my mouth but she replaced the bottle and bought me a drink.
We ended up hoppin over to Coach's, but I think I had more fun at the Escape to be honest. My kind of dive.
Love love LOVE this bar!
I live way across town in the Evergreen/East San Jose area but it is well worth my drive. Besides, where else can my 60lb dog come hang out and have a beer with me? I've been there nearly every time of the day on pretty much every day at some point or another and there has never been a bad time to go there.
Staff is always very friendly and the owner is great and friendly as well. The staff, owner and regulars make you feel very welcome and at home in this little neighborhood bar.
As for entertainment there are 3 TVs with HD that the bartenders are more than happy to put on whatever you want be it sports or not. A Wii with a few games (I've brought my own games before too) and multiple controllers. Free WIFI that I've spent many days sitting around on my computer with there. A couple electronic dart boards. A pool table that is FREE, yes I said it, FREE to use! There's also a jukebox that has pretty much any song you could want (one of those internet jukeboxes I think)
The drinks are VERY reasonably priced. I love the $2.50 pints of PBR ($8 for a pitcher). Good selection of beers and hard liquor and mixers. They have a couple types of wine and some champagne as well for you non-beer types. I haven't met a bartender there that can't pour a mean drink.
All-in-all if you like those more "at home" feeling bars you'll never feel more at home than you do at this place. Gone in here on a bad night or two but never left having a bad night. =)
What else can I say except - CONNIE ROCKS!
Connie created a great neighborhood bar where you can relax, have a beer, play pool, listen to great music, play a game of darts and socialize with some nice people. The bartenders are friendly. Drinks are
reasonably priced.
What more could you ask for??
A easy going, friendly place to hang and enjoy.
I was just lookin up the address and found this site. Â Figured I'd write a review cuz The Escape is my hangout. Â It's a cool kickback place with cool bartenders and many good people. Â Connie the owner rocks! Â Can you say Hot Cougar? Â LOL! Â She's done a great job of fixin up the place since she bought it about a year and half ago. Â Did quite a bit of remodeling to give it a fresh clean look, brought in a much needed Internet jukebox, and refelted the pool table recently. Â She also has done a great job of 86'ing the unwanted, dirty, scandalous, tweakin people that used to bother me. Â Pool is free everyday; don't know another place that's ever done that. Â The only thing you should beware of is Crystal F. and her dice. Â She will eat up your money in Liars Dice like nobody's business.
Review Source:This place has a little bit of everything. Â Pool, darts, wii, wifi, updated jukebox, food and of course drinks. Â I usually go in to either play darts or pool. Â Great classic dive bar with great bartenders and a really relaxed crowd. Â I always have a great time here. Â No uptight people and the owner is way cool. Â Check it out for yourself.
Review Source:I've only been here once, sadly, but I'd definitely like to go back! Totally kick back dive, check out the website, it says a LOT about what this place offers.
When I visited, it was a friends birthday, and we went to play Billiards elsewhere, and didn't anticipate going to a bar, but she loves this place, so we went on by. Cheap drinks, cool bartenders, Free WiFi, Wii with games, pool, $2 Pabst. Like what the heck!?!? We're in a failing economy, this place is going to get REAL popular soon, so head over there NOW while it's not crazy packed yet! Alas, this place is currently popular because of the chill environment, fun people, and lack of pretentiousness! My friends birthday was an adventurous and fun night to remember and I give credit to The Escape in helping contribute to that. :)
Oh how I LOVE the Escape! It's walking distance from my house, I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing! The bartenders are always nice... Roger is super friendly! And the owner Connie always makes sure everyone is having a great time... she will come over and hand us a twenty dollar bill for the juke box if no one is playing music. Did I mention their jukebox plays anything you want... the music is downloaded right then and there so it is the most up to date you can get!
And if you're not content just listening to music, you can play on of their two dart boards, watch on of the flat screen tv's... if there is a particular game you want on... just tell them, play their wii... they have tons of different games, or of course, put your name on the board to play pool... FREE!
I can't tell you the exact prices of the drinks (I am not always exactly coherent at this point in the evening) but I can say that my bill is always SUPER CHEAP considering the number of drinks we usually consume in a night and the fact that I love to buy rounds for all my friends (maybe you can catch me at the escape on one of my good nights and ill buy you a round too!)
So, if you're looking for a fun place to grab a drink with friendly bartenders, entertaining regulars, good music, and free pool... then the Escape is the place to be!
Best local bar around. Â Its the kinda place where everybody knows your name. Â Free pool, Â Wii, Monday night football specials, Â great drinks, hot and friendly bartenders, Â great people. Â The owner Connie is the nicest bar owner around. Â Thursday and Friday nights are great nights to show up. Â Easy to pile on the drinks while playing pool and having coversations with any one of the other locals that are hanging out. Â The crowd is always the same which makes it nice. Â All age's can be found at this little local establishment as well as all types of people. Â Come by and check it out and have a drink or two or three!!!
