I know when me and my wife travel away from home we like to eat what most people call "The Local Flavor".  We always try to avoid restaurants that we have around home, like the usual fast food joints.  If you're visiting the Pineville, Tioga area and want some good home cooked style seafood I highly recommend Fant's.  Don't let the building fool you, this restaurant is located inside of an old fried chicken restaurant.  If  you arrive at primetime lunch or dinner you'll find yourself standing in line to get in.  Fant's has a very loyal local following but that's because the food and service is excellent.  I recommend the fried tomatoes.
Review Source:Even the veggies are deep fried at Fants!!
I'd bookmarked this place before heading to Pineville, but was pleasantly surprised when my local coworkers offered it up as a first-day lunch option.
Lunch is crazy here. Â Get to Fants before noon or you'll likely wait for a table. Â Half of our group had arrived before me, and upon sitting down I was told they'd already ordered apps - deep fried mushrooms, pickle chips and red tomato slices. Â Holy deep fried cow! Â The mushrooms and tomatoes were delicious. Â The pickles were good.
I went with the catfish platter, deep fried of course. Â With hushpuppies and corn on the cob. Â Tons of food! Â And it was damn good too. Â The cornmeal batter was light and perfectly seasoned. Â My friend L sent down a fried shrimp that made me swoon on first bite. Â I'm getting the catfish and shrimp combo next time!
This place is very casual. Â Could be hard to find too because they don't actually have a true sign - look for the cars!
We live within an hour of Fant's and have only discovered it this past year. We really enjoying going to eat there. A great casual family atmosphere - but make sure and get there early or be prepared to wait. The building is very small so it can't accomodate a large crowd at one time. However, the wait is worth it. They offer fried seafood, grilled platters and boiled crawfish among other things. Everything we've tried has been really good. The staff is always very friendly as well as very busy! They are open for lunch as well as dinner. Be sure and try some fried pickles or fried tomatoes as your appetizer!
Review Source:Very small restaurant, always packed. Â Everything I have had from there was good, fried pickles, fried shrimp, fried catfish. Â Yep, it's a lot of fried food. Â You walk out of there smelling like you were fried. Â I have had the crawfish there and they are pretty good also. Â If you are not from around here, it's kind of out there. Â Like I said, very busy, limited seating. Â Best bet is during the off hours.
Review Source:This is a great mom and pop restaurant with great seafood. Â Fried or broiled catfish, oysters, softshells, shrimp. Â All the food was very good and tasted very fresh. Â
Closed on Sunday and Monday and very crowed all other days. Â Fants is a little out of the way but one of the best places for seafood I found in the area.
