Three of my friends and I attended a rock show at Fat Catz in Warren on 1/7/2011. Â The service was good, the PA system was awesome, the band was fantastic (TILES), and the food they were serving smelled good. Â There were two pool tables, relatively clean bathrooms, and there were many people attending the show that night. There were a few small television sets with the hockey game on. Â They had a menu of about 15 items. The place was also clean. Sounds great so far, right?
If you are a smoker- this is the place for you. Â Everyone was smoking inside the bar, despite the new ban on smoking in Michigan work places. We asked the waitress and the bouncer why they allowed smoking and they said that smokers are just doing this in protest and they can't control it. So here is the trouble....
I was charged a $3.00 cover charge and no one told me that smoking was permitted in the bar. I had to find out for myself. Â We asked some of the people to stop and they lit up anyway. All four of us are non smokers and as soon as the band was done, we high tailed out of there. My coat and hat were saturated with smoke as well as my bra, my hair, and all of my clothes. I work in a professional environment and I will now have to get my coat dry cleaned so that it doesn't smell of smoke. Â All I ask is to know that a bar permits smoking BEFORE I pay a cover charge and smell up all my clothes.
Lastly- I think there should be bars that cater to smokers. It's only fair. However, just so these bars understand....the breweries do not permit smoking, period. It's so nice at the breweries around town and they are 10x more packed than the local bars with the smokers. Â I will give my business to them instead. Â Smoking around a non smoker takes a special lack of courtesy. If you are a smoker- this place is for you...enjoy.
If you are a non smoker...go to Kuhnenn's Brewery instead!
