Below is an email I wrote to the management at Fire Barn. Â I waited over a week before I posted a review on yelp. Â Since I never received a response (I also left my phone number) I decided to post this email. Â
My wife and I attempted to have dinner at the Papillion located. Â We sat at the bar and the bartender appeared to be the only employee working (besides the kitchen staff). Â She was overwhelmed and frantic. Â The service was slow because there was a handful of tables and a handful of people at the bar. After several minutes of her trying to find hockey on TV she finally took our drink order. She did not offer us menus. Â After she greeted a few other tables she finally asked if we wanted to look at a menu. We decided to try the wings and we ordered the 3-alarm wings and Texas Toothpicks. Â She never informed us the "default" wing was breaded and nor does it say that anywhere on the menu. Â When the wings finally arrived they were gross. Â Absolutely terrible. Â We were both starving and I couldn't finish one wing. Â The Texas Toothpicks never arrived. Â I told the bartender/waitress that the wings were gross and we never got the rest of the food. Â She was so indifferent about our reaction to the food being bad. Â Terrible service. Â I asked for the bill so we could go find dinner somewhere else. Â She made no effort to get another order of wings (not breaded) or offer to comp the wings. Â She didn't seem to care at all. Â What a terrible, terrible visit... and terrible, rubbery, bland wings. Â It is safe to say we will not be back.
The service was good, but the food was terrible. Â My husband got the brisket sandwich, but the brisket was very minimal. Â I would love to see their profit margins because it had to be 98% on that sandwich. Â I got the spicy garlic wings and they were tasteless. Â Smallest wings in the city as well. Â Never going back there again.
Review Source:I have never been to the Waterloo location and this was our first visit to the Papillion location.
We started with the Loaded Nachos and the word loaded should definitely be removed from the description. This was a pretty sad plate of semi burnt chips, yellow nacho cheese and a very little amount of ground beef. It also included tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, a sad little dollop of sour cream and some awful salsa. Skip these for sure.
Next up was chicken tenders and wings. The chicken tenders and fries were decent but both tasted like something they buy frozen and just throw in the fryer - at least the fries were the battered style so they were crispy. They have alot of wing options, I went with naked two alarm flash over. These wings were actually pretty good - the bleu cheese sucked.
Overall it was decent bar food and the waitress was friendly and attentive.
