Do yourself a favor and skip this terrible restaurant. Waitress was terrible, the restaurant had only five tables seated out of around 50 total tables. It was not as of she was busy. I got one refill and had to wait more than 10 minutes for a diet coke. The water glasses were served with no ice and the tap water tasted metallic.
The salad was sparse, a layer of lettuce so thin that the plate could be seen through the 6 pieces of lettuce. Two cucumber slices, two red onion slices.
The bread was hot, but stale and hard. At least the butter was soft. My son's kid size shrimp had three shrimp. No cocktail sauce offered. My daughter' skid size steak was about 9 ounces and it was average.
My wife's filet mignon was the only bright spot. Was tender and edible. Certainly not one of the better I have had. My scallops were chewy, stringy, and gamey. The side dishes were terrible. The mashed potatoes were served on a side plate in an unappetizing heap. Cafeteria style. Nothing special here. The French fries on my kid's plates were better.
Poor service. Outdated 70's atmosphere. Apathetic staff. Urine odor in restrooms like a Truckstop. Definitely will not consider in the future. Oh, and way overpriced. Don't let the word, "Chophouse" fool you. The only thing that felt chopped was my wallet after paying for this forgettable, far below average meal.
Ate at a Chophouse for our first time. Â My wife got the kabob with four pieces of meat, one tomato, one green pepper, and one onion. Â She was not asked how she wanted them cooked, they all came out cooked differently and had a funny taste. Â I had the prime rib, I had to put a lot of salt on it just to give it flavor. Â No one ever asked if we needed anything or if everything was ok. Â we waited for 15 minutes after we ate what we could for our check so we could get the heck out of there. Â Our waiter was horrible, as was the food. Â Even the tea had a bad taste to it. The inside atmosphere did not match the outside. Â Just a bad experience over all, needless to say we will never eat there or a chophouse again.
Review Source:From the outside you think this would be a family restaurant where you can sit back and relax. Nope. Felt very uncomfortable in there. Waiters and waitresses would pass by the door way and just stare at you. When our waitress approached us she just gave us water, did not even ask what we wanted to drink. Wasn't much in choice of food. My mashed potatoes were watery. Their salad was very, very small and same goes for my husbands lamb. My sons pasta probably was the best tasting thing at the table.
Review Source:Don't eat here! Â Owner was rude! Â Food is over priced and way below avg! Â My steak was over cooked. Â I asked for medium well but it was very well done...no pink at all. Â My hubby's scallops were edible but not great. Â Each scallop was a different color so they were not cooked consistently! Â My steak was also over salted and smelled a little strange! Â I told our waiter who brought the owner over. Â He offered me something else but I politely said - we needed to leave b/c we had a toddler. Â On our bill he charged $3.00 for my salad - came w/ my meal! Â We were told - the steak would be removed! Â Â I asked the owner who is an elderly senior citizen and he was so rude and argued w/ me! Â He actually said - he was charging me for bread and salad (which came w/ the wrong dressing and so so acidic) he said - this was a business and stormed away from our table in the middle of our conversation! Â I didn't get to tell him - my child's Mac and cheese came over cooked and the sauce only partially covered the pasta! Â He only ate half! Â I guess I should have known this was going to be a bad dinner when we sat there for a few min and had to ask for our server. Â Our waiter noticed and the owner told him to take our table even though our server asked if Susie should take it! Â They are very unorganized! Â I asked the hostess how long the wait was for 3 people and she just walked me to our table. Â It turned out - she had only been in the USA for 5 days. Â There were at least a few other young girls from Romania there. Â Not sure what that is all about! Â I guess they make the place pretty! Â Lol. Â At least our waiter was more professional and apologized! Â This place belongs on the show, "Restaurant Impossible"! Â I would rather have a burger at Five Guys!
Review Source:Took the WIF here after a stop at the Williamsburg Antique mall. Food was good, service was ok. Older waiter.
When we first got there and started to order, he was like we are out of the mashed potatoes, out of this, out of that, etc. It seemed like everything we started to order they were out of. I then turn to the guy and toss my menu aside and tell him " why dont you tell me what you do have and we can go from there" So a few minutes later he comes out  and all of sudden everything we want is now back in stock and on the menu including a new batch of mashed potaotes.
Meal was good. I had a NY strip and the WIF had crab cakes. Â Atmosphere was good but felt old and stuffy. Not alot of folks in there.
I was between a 2 & 3 on this place. A quiet friendly & clean atmosphere. Had the stuffed shrimp dinner after finding out they were out of mashed potatoes as I had wanted the Filet. It even says on there menu for the mashed potatoes "while they last". Never seen such a thing before. I had French fries that weren't impressive (food lion brand) and Broccoli with meal. The shrimp and crab meat itself wasn't to bad. The rest I hardly touched. Also had to ask for 4 refills as the glasses are like 10oz glasses. Overall the main course wasn't to bad but I don't plan on visiting again.
Review Source:Older restaurant and it shows. Salads sucked but prime rib was good. My son wouldn't eat his burger. He thought it tasted weird. Daughter got the junior pasta. Â It was a couple cups of penne pasta with a couple tablespoons of marinara but she thought it was good. Server was hard to understand and not friendly. He kept grabbing the back of my chair and nearly hit me in the head with a plate but I ducked it time. Â
Overall, I don't know if food was good enough to make up for the the tired atmosphere and shoddy service.
Oh, and a baby cried and screamed the entire time. Parents really need to respect other diners. Don't go out if your kid isn't in a good mood. If you must go out go to McDonald's or something. I don't mind listening to a screaming kid when I pay $6 but when I'm paying over $20 I get irritated.
Food: Â I don't think I have ever eaten a piece of meat so gristly and grainy before (I also asked for med-rare and it was VERY rare.) Â My girlfriend's chicken was below room temp, burned on one side, pink on the other. Â The mashed were decent, but I make better at home--and they don't guarantee they'll have them for you. Â (Even the kid's meal had limp unseasoned fries straight out of the freezer bag.)
Crowd: noisy
Price: I'm not supposed to use curse words on Yelp...but you get the idea.
Wild horses could not drag me back into this place. Â Avoid at all costs.
(We stayed about a week after we ate there and just laughed about how awful it was every time we drove past...just terrible, I was embarrassed I had suggested it, she still makes cracks about it)
My wife and I were in Williamsburg for a weekend trip. We were looking to grab some dinner and found this place. As we walked in the Manager seated us and was very professional. Unfortunately, this was THE ONLY positive thing I can say about this place. Our waiter was an african american man. My wife ordered the Chicken Kabob. I went with the Beef Kabob. I asked the waiter for them to cook the Beef at a Medium. Both of our meals came with a salad. When our waiter walked up to us with the Salads and as he was placing the salad on the table in front of my wife he rubbed up against her. There was NOBODY sitting next to our table so the waiter could have easily just walked to the side of the table and placed our salads. As we finished our salads the waiter was EXTREMELY slow on re-fills of the iced tea. Our waiter only had 2 tables us and another table. When he brought us our food the Kabob's were on a skewer. As the waiter was removing the slices of beef kabob of the skewer he touched one of the pieces of beef with my napkin for almost a minute as he was having difficulty removing the beef from the skewer. I ended up with no napkin as he walked away. The beef which I ordered medium was burned! Absolutely, no flavor to it. A-1 sauce and ketchup would not help the taste. I was able to locate the Manager and informed him that I ordered the beef medium and it came out well done. He apologized and asked if I wanted something else. I ended up getting the roasted chicken which was ok, nothing great. After the manager brought me the Roasted Chicken our waiter came to us after we finished our meals. WE DID NOT GET 1 re-fill during our meal! The Manager NEVER came up to us to ask how the chicken tasted. I must say we observed other tables and that the other waiters/waitresses that where there were doing an outstanding job. We just got stuck with this guy who just looked like he was doing us a favor. We will not return to this place.
Review Source:My boyfriend and I have eaten here twice. We actually scheduled a little mini-vacation in Williamsburg to celebrate our 2 year anniversary that included eating here again (we live in Richmond). It was worth the trip. The French Onion soup is literally the best that I've ever had. The prime rib is wonderful and the cheesecake is delicious. This is a family owned restaurant, not a chain or franchise, and they really care about their service. We will definitely be back again in the future. :)
Review Source:9/20/11 - We wanted steak and picked this place randomly. Parking lot was almost empty (first clue). Decor is old, dark and sad inside. Server was distant, didn't speak English well and didn't know much about the food or menu she was serving. Very overpriced fare for what we actually got (miserly sides accompanied the entree). The chef could not bother to accompany a $25 steak with requested Bearnaise sauce. Prime rib was served medium as requested, but was not tender. The $83 bill for two was nowhere near worth the price.
Review Source:My family and I came to this restaurant because my sister wanted steak. A completely  empty restaurant on a Sunday afternoon should have been our first clue, but we allowed the less than friendly hostess to seat us anyway.  The decor was very nice and the menu offered a little something for everyone.  The food was also okay.  The service was subpar!!! If the owner doesn't reevaluate his staff, he'll be out of business!!!
Review Source:So I have a huge pet peeve with this place.. They don't like you sharing food. My husband and I always share because I don't eat as much. This place charges a $5.00 fee for sharing plates. What the hell is that???!!!????
The prime rib was good but nothing spectacular. I do agree with other readers, they cook your steak as ordered. We got broccoli as a side and it was one stock.
The cheesecake was typical so I would skip dessert.
All in all I won't come back.
The atmosphere was very nice. The service was OK.
The salad was good compared to wh
at other reviews said.
The steak was flavorless. A1 couldn't fix the flavor these steaks. Tasted like they were straight outa the freezer. Great steaks need no sauce. I have had better steak at Applebee's, which ain't saying much.
Picked this place totally at random tonight, and had a fantastic experience. With a party of 6 + an 18 month old, we were quite a handful. The steaks are fantastic, cooked exactly as ordered, flavorful, and modestly priced in comparison to your usual fancy steakhouse. The seafood was also excellent, particularly the crabcakes. The service was great, funny, and very attentive. Overall, an excellent choice, and a fine local restaurant for those looking to avoid chain fare.
Review Source:After walking around Busch Gardens for a couple hours, we decided to try out this restaurant on a recommendation. Â It was pretty close to our hotel and they had a bar. Â
We walked in and were greeted by what looked like a manager and asked to be directed towards the bar - he looked a little confused.  There was one guest at the bar and I'm pretty sure he was an employee who got cut early - he, not the bartender, kept asking us if we were going to eat.  Honestly, I was interested in getting an appetizer until the rude and unprofessional attitude we received from the bartender and the manager.
The bartender was not interested in interacting with us, even though we were his ONLY guests, and spoke with the other employee while having his eyes glued to the national geographic channel.  Now, I am in no way against nature shows, but when I go to a bar I'd prefer to see something a little more upbeat like sports or even the news.  At one point the manager came up to the bar, and loud enough for us to hear while not directing his comments at us, made snyde remarks about my boyfriends soccer jersey... just because we knocked them out of their spot for the champions league, doesn't mean you should be rude seeing as we are paying guests. Â
We promptly finished our beers and asked for the check.  As I walked out the door, I told the manager that his 'hospitality exceeds your kindness' - he didn't get it.
I've worked in the industry for years, and this was definitely 'not pro.'  Needless to say, we will not be returning here regardless of what the food is like and will not recommend this place to anyone.
Visited the Chop House in December 2010. Our first time there. The food was very good. My prime rib was just right and the surf and turf was excellent but very over priced. You might  say I was glad to be sitting down when we got the check. Would I go again? Absolutely. Would I get the surf & turf again? Nope.
Review Source:Not knowing anything about this place, we just stopped in for dinner with another family. Â We were pleasantly surprised by the steakhouse ambiance and the service was flawless. Â The guy who was our waiter was maybe 70 or 80 years old but he knew his stuff.
The steaks were delivered to us the way we ordered.
No complaints. Â So glad we found this restaurant and would definitely go back if we're in the neighborhood.
This is a pretty standard steakhouse. The service is ok. I think It depends on the waiter. The last time we were there the server was fantastic. We saw him there tonight but had a different waiter.
The calamari was pretty good. Â The salad was anemic. The fillet med rare was very very good. The broccoli on the side was actually remarkably good for broccoli. Â My sons chicken tenders were sooooo good.
This rating is for our visit on 5/17/10. Â The restaurant is open in the evenings Mon-Sat until 11 pm; Sun til 10 pm. Â We arrived 40 minutes before they closed but we didn't feel rushed. Â We were greeted and seated immediately. Â Our server had a great personality and was attentive. Â He was also prompt and courteous. Â I ordered the house specialty- slow roasted prime rib- 9 - 10 oz cut (medium doneness) with baked potato and green salad (all for $19.99); it also came with steamed carrots. Â I agree with previous review that the blue cheese dressing could have had more blue cheese chunks but the lettuce was crisp which made it alright. Â The prime rib was a good portion for a 9 - 10 oz. and was done to my liking. Â It had great flavor and melted in my mouth ... delicious! Â If you can find a coupon book (at a gas station by the newspaper stands) you may be able to find a 10% off coupon in it. Â Kudos to the Romanian server and night staff who gave us excellent service!
Review Source:The Yelp reviews led us to the Chophouse on a rainy Saturday night. Â The location, along a LONG stretch of tourist traps on the Richmond Rd. was not promising, but the meal was decent.
Our patrician African-American waiter, Lewis, was my favorite aspect of this place. Â I love meeting a true professional in this field. Â He was patient and helpful. Â Hubby had the "small" prime rib (house specialty) and it was not small, but it was perfectly done, the side of mashed potatoes and carrots were also very good. Â I had the steak salad. Â Remind me never to order salads in normal restaurants. Â The steak was very good, freshly cooked to order, medium rare, but the lettuce was yucky, with way too much "balsamic" dressing and not enough of the advertised blue cheese "chunks" (bits would be a better description).
The kids menu is a great deal, about 7 or 8 bucks and my 12 and 14 year-olds were fully satisfied with their steaks, again, properly cooked to order, and fries.
I rate this three stars because the food (except the salad) is good, the service excellent, and the price reasonable.
Fireside has a great atmosphere and environment. The host 'Steve' was very friendly and got us seated right away. Our server was also very attentive and polite. The food was delicious and for sure satisfied our appetites. The crab cakes were beyond amazing and the house salad was light and crisp with a flavorful balsamic dressing. The entrees we had this evening were the chicken kabob, a Burger and the Lamb Chops. Everything was superb and scrumptious! This restaurant is most definitely not closed. They also offer discounts and a great family environment.
Review Source:Though this is listed as closed it is still open. Â But I wish it had been closed. Â The service was okay but the food was sub-par. Â My wife had to send her steak back and she has never sent food back. Â She literally could not eat it. Â Though it was ordered medium well, it came out well done. Â It was not seasoned and was tough. Â My grilled chicken salad was average. Â The chicken was charred and dry. Â The decor is fine, the place is nice inside, they just need a new chef.
Review Source:Yelp has this restaurant closed but it was open. Food was very good, service very good. Did not have reservations but were seated quickly considering we had to wait a bit for the host to come up. I ordered New York Strip, very good, hubby ordered Steak with peppercorns & mustard sauce. Cooked just the way he likes it. Would definitely go back if the need for steak arises (nicer than the "chain steakhouses). Hubby ordered onion straws for appetizer, they were good but sauce was kind of bland.
Review Source:Very good food, fantastic service.
We came here after a long day walking Colonial Williamsburg with our two young children. Â We were at first concerned that it might not be an appropriate restaurant for young kids (cloth tablecloths, tables fairly close together) but found it to be very welcoming.
We enjoyed some very good french onion soup, and the lamb chop entree was outstanding.
Recommended.
