I give it a meh.
After moving out from the city I have had a hard time getting my husband to go out for anything but Chinese so when my daughter was in town we decided to try Firkin.
Told that the wait was 40 minutes on a Saturday night we were assured that it would be less - it was longer. It was an awkward area to hang out for that long, ducking the servers and watching the cold case.
We are not beer drinkers and the beer menu type was too teeny to see in the dark so went with the draft wine - meh.
I'm not sure why it labels itself as American - every special that night was a taco or enchilada or some form of Mexican. We did manage to find the German alternative on the menu - pretzel for app, which was the highlight - and chicken schnitzel which came under a salad with nothing else.
Service was better than most places that we've been to in the burbs but it was uber loud and the music more what I would expect in a Mexican place.
Ahh, this place is just about perfect. Great beer, great beer food, fabulous specials (especially in May for Cinco de Mayo), pretty lights, great staff. And the lentil spread! I usually get a container of it to go at the end of my meal. Absolute best part, though: it feels about three hundred miles away from the North Shore. You feel like you're downtown somewhere. Oh, and fried asparagus! Yes.
Review Source:Ate here with an associate at the recommendation of a local. It was a recent Thursday night about 7pm, and the place was packed.
The beer menu is great - not overwhelming but a great cross section of styles, geography, etc. Always nice to see Oskar Blues on tap.
We started with some meat and cheese - everything very nicely presented and tasty. Great local cheese selection.
I had the Akaushi Waygu burger. Not worth it. It was good, but not nearly worth the rants and raves of previous reviews.
Service was excellent - not overwhelming but just attentive enough. We lingered for a while to finish a business conversation.
Solid choice, nice and busy for people watching. I'll be back to try the spare ribs
NO RANCH!
Where am I?? lol
Okay, this is def Liberty~thrills answer to 'upscale' pub.....should that even exist?
Listen....it's a BAR, not a French restaurant....get some ranch...okay, moving on....
Lots of great reviews for this place, I won't deny its cool.
And drinking the "Worlds strongest Beer" was fun...all 3 ounces of it.....haha! 14% in a midget glass won't get me drunk enough to think that the waygu burger tastes like anything but a standard cheeseburger....
Waygu Burger: An okay burger, waaay overpriced...
Macaroni: Don't let the reviews fool you, its not that great...not real cheesy, a few sundried tomatoes and mushrooms thrown in...skip it
Asparagus: yummie, but there is only 6 sticks of it on the plate....come on, that stuff it like a $1 a pound!
Calamari: Nicely done, great mayo dipping sauce, small portions...again....
Pretty overpriced, but the beer selection is really cool. Â
Still deciding if I would go back...
Scene: quit a bit of older folks....
I used to like this place, but the last few times I have been there it has been horrible. Â We were there on 4/5/13 and order their ribs. Â They were 90% fat. Â In addition, they have changed there wine to all these draft wnes. Â I ordered a zinfandel. Â It was flat and did not taste like a zinfandel to me. Â I like the atmosphere of this place, but I will not return unless I want a tallgrass burger. Â It's the only thing I can think of that is good from there.
Review Source:Decided to try Firkin because the good reviews its been getting. Not to my surprise it actually lives up to a 4 star or even a 5 star standard. Although walking up to the front door is a hastle because they dont allow customers through the front. Walked in from the back door and was instantly given a small table near the front. The place was pretty crowded for being only a little after 6. The drink menu is filled with plenty of brews and wines from different regions of the world. The food menu isnt vast but didnt lack choices. I decided to go with the salmon panini. The food came out quick and it was delicious. Left the place 10 minutes to 7 and the place was packed.
Review Source:I've been fortunate in my personal and professional life to be able to travel all over the U.S. and world. Â In the course of my travels I've been to some amazing bars and restaurants and I can confidently say that Firkin is one of my all-time top ten bars world-wide. Â I suppose one could accurately describe it as a "gastropub" given the menu. Whatever you call it, the ever-changing food and drink selections (especially the extensive beer list) are outstanding. I just wish it were a tad bit closer to my house.
Review Source:Firkin is a happening spot in downtown Libertyville with a great beer selection and a full bar. The bar service was fantastic and the atmosphere was electric on a Thursday night. I can't speak to the beers on tap as I am a scotch man, but they seem to be known for their beers as that was what most patrons were seeking. They have a fully stocked bar and their Johnny Walker Black was very reasonably priced.
As for the food, I had their Pepper Shooters to start with which are fresh cherry peppers tightly stuffed with prosciutto and provolone and drizzled with olive oil and a splash of balsamic vinegar. They were a perfect starter as they are cold, crunchy and fairly light and definitely delicious. They are ordered by the pepper and served in halves and fairly small, 2-3 peppers (4-6 halves) per person is probably suggested.
For my main entree I had the braised spare rib. It is served in a large bowl with about a half inch of au jus filling the bottom. The large spare rib is topped with sauteed onions and mushrooms and fresh grilled vegetables including broccoli and red peppers. The rib literally falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The mushrooms and onions accent the beef nicely, while the grilled veggies are well paired with the tasty au jus. It is the perfect dish, I nearly licked the bowl clean.
As a frequent solo traveler I tend to look for places with great bar seating, and Firkin is just that. However, for those looking to watch a game this is not the bar for you as they don't have any TVs. For parking make sure to hit up the large parking lot around the back and enter through the back entrance rather than worrying about parking on the busy street. I'll be in the area for another month or two, and I'll certainly be back, if for no other reason than the exquisite spare rib dish.
I have been here twice and really enjoyed myself! Â I'm not a big drinker, but that's okay because the food is really good. Â The Akaushi burger is my favorite, but they have a pretty big and diverse menu. Â
Service was great both times I have been. Â We went on weekend days both times in between lunch time and dinner time. Â We did not wait for seating but each time there were maybe 3 empty tables. Â
Give this place a try if you are in the area!
Overall Firkin was a lot of fun - great band, extensive beer options, and diverse/friendly crowd. The only complaint is that the music was so incredibly loud that night we had to leave. It gets packed even on weeknights. Bring patience, good attitude, and ear plugs and you will be good to go!
Review Source:Wow. Â What a beer list. Â Both on tap and in bottles, this place brings their A-game every day. Â It took me a couple years to find this place as a lunch spot when I used to work up this way, and I'm sorry it took so long. Â The BLT is delicious and has deep-fried bacon. Â Battered and deep-fried bacon. Â Good golly. Â If you're in the mood for a lunchtime beer and grub, this is the spot.
Review Source:Firkin is my favorite bar restaurant in the area. Sister to the neighboring and more upscale Tavern, the interior is warm and welcoming. The festive holiday lights hanging from the ceiling and vintage wallpapers give the place a quirky charm. The beer selection is among the best I've seen, with very knowledgeable bartenders and servers giving recommendations based on tastes or menu selections. I love the fact that they seem to have matching glasses for any kind of beer ordered, and selection is vast.
As for the food, think of Fridays for foodies. The preparations are artful and selections are unusual. I've tried the lobster taco appetizers and fried asparagus appetizers and both were worth coming back for. The burgers are very tasty, with grass fed and wagyu options. I'll often look to the specials menu for unusual options including fish. We enjoyed the soft shell crab sandwich.
The space fills up quickly and there may be a wait, but with the amazing bar, it's definitely worth it!
I found myself in Libertyville on a random weekend visiting family & in need of dinner. Firkin was the choice.
We (party of 3) waited about 30 minutes or so on a Saturday at what I assume is regular dinner-time in Libertyville, 6pm-ish. While there isn't really a "waiting area", we did get to stare at all the plates coming out of the kitchen so it was easy to decide what to order when the time came. Also, staring at the cold-case by the host stand, it was brought to my attention that they had that delicious cheese-on-the-grill cheese, so we had to have that as an appetizer.
For my entree I had the fish tacos, they were good but didn't have as much fish in them as I would have hoped for, and the asian slaw on the side was delicious. Firkin has a great beer list and a good atmosphere, very laid-back but busy busy busy. I liked everything I tasted and will most likely be back on my next trip to the 'burbs!
I came here on a Saturday evening for dinner with 3 friends..the wait time was 15-30 minutes, but worth the wait..
Food:
1/2 pound Akaushi Burger ($13.95) - Texas raised waygu orginally from Komomoto prefecture, Japan buttery and rich when cooked medium to rare (this is what it says in the menu so I don't know how to interpret it if you're not a chef/cook..sorry!--either way it's delicious) comes with a side of veggies, coleslaw, or fries (your choice!) ...the burger is big, and delicious..the meat definitely tastes delicious medium rare and it also tasted good eating left overs....fries came out warm and tasted good with the burger.. TRY it!
Mini Lobster Tacos appetizer ($13.50) - the appetizer comes with 3 mini-tacos, but you can add an additional mini taco if you have a party of 4 and each want to try 1 mini-taco (gotta pay more though)..the mini-tacos are good and definitely mini, but i think 3 mini tacos could fill me up (will not fill up big eaters though..)..I was not too impressed with the taco shell though.. it tasted a bit stale.. not as crunchy as anticipated...I would rate this appetizer maybe a 3.5/5..probably wouldn't order it again tho...
Costs:
Appetizers ranges from $4.95-$13.50 --the lower the cost, the less the portion
Burgers ranges from $8.25-$11.95 --varies depending on burger/meat type
*garnish items ranges from $0.50-$2.25 which include items like sharp cheese, or additional items you would want to add to your burger...(your burger is still tasty w/out the garnish items though..)
Entrees range from $13.95-$20.95
Total costs -- if you want a good meal and a content stomach.. expect to spend a total of $25-$30 (that includes tip & tax...)
Drinks:
-they're known for some of the beer selections.. I haven't personally tried it..but my friends had a couple drinks and they enjoyed it...they have quite a selection. ..sounded delicious and tempting..
Atmosphere: dim lit bar type restaurant.. great for dinner with friends or on a casual date..
Customer Service: the waitress(es) were all nice so I have no complaints!
Parking: there's plenty of parking areas whether it's street parking (probably hard to find during weekends though.), a small parking lot (usually filled though) or a parking garage..
I would come again if I was in the area and definitely recommend that you try this place as well if you're in the area! :)
This place gets paaacked. Â The waiting area is not the greatest; very cramped, just near the washrooms and next to the kitchen area where the waitstaff gets the food to serve. Â But I guess that's what the bar is for! Â The place itself is pretty nice, I liked their decorations for the holidays. Â A tad dark, but it gives it more of the bar feel.
Now onto the food! Â Started with the mini lobster tacos. Â Soo delicious. Â They use minimal ingredients/flavors which really lets the lobster stand out. Â For my meal I got one of the specials of the day which was a Guajillo spiced beef brisket sandwich with fries. Â The beef brisket was so good, flavored perfectly. Â It was shredded on top of what looked like a ciabatta bun with chihuahua cheese and avocado. Â I would go back just for that sandwich. Â The brisket juice soaked through the bottom bun, but it added flavor and ciabatta tends to be a little dry anyway.
Great food, laid back atmosphere, huge selection of beers.
The bar tenders are cool and know the local beers out there. We stopped in right before the kitchen was closing and i was still hooked up. I suggest trying the different cheeses they serve. Cheese always pairs well with beer plus the olive spread is great too. I personally drink ipa and they have a good selection of them to choose from. Its a fun place to hang out with friends.
Review Source:Rude host...can't believe they would not give us a table on a Monday night with an EMPTY dining room. Questioning us on if we are ordering dinner or appetizers, really? Â We are here to spend money and they repeatedly questioned us in what we are going to order. Â This happened to us on two different occasions. We walked out! Â Your hostess is turning people off to your establishment!!
Review Source:I really wanted to like this place. I was excited to try the food here because of the great Yelp reviews and I finally came for dinner on Saturday night. Sadly, I only enjoyed two things here: my drink and the pretzels. I had "Pavlov's coat" with caramel and cinnamon vodka and rumchata (rum-flavored horchata). My boyfriend ordered the pretzel as an appetizer. It was delicious and probably the only item worth ordering on the menu.
Now for the rest of the food. I love burgers so of course I ordered the wagyu burger with fries. My boyfriend had the spicy pork sandwich. We also shared the bacon appetizer and the "famous" macaroni and cheese. First of all, shame on us for not reading the menu descriptions. The bacon was actually breaded and deep friend which I did not enjoy. I can appreciate deep fried foods but sometimes a girl just needs some regular bacon! The macaroni and cheese was....different. It didn't taste bad but I can't say it tasted good either. I wasn't a fan of the fact that there were big pieces of nuts in it. The burger was probably the biggest disappointment of the night. It had no flavor at all. I don't even think they seasoned the beef with salt and pepper. How hard is it to make a decent burger, especially if your restaurant is known for it? Even the fries were bad. The spicy pork sandwich was not much better.
Overall, the food here was disappointing and the service was the same. Our group of six sat down at approximately 6pm and we didn't leave until close to 8:30pm. Most of our time was spent waiting for our food and our waitress. At the beginning of the meal we also asked the waitress for a to-go order of chicken teriyaki fettuccine which she forgot about. Although after our meal, I'm actually glad I didn't have to leave with more food from here. She even had the nerve to add 18% gratuity for a party of six. I would say my experience here was a waste of time, calories and money. Would I come back? No Firkin Way!!
Firkin seems to be a favorite of a client of mine, and I think for good reason. It's a cool bar in downtown Libertyville, with what looks like a solid beer list. Too bad we keep going for business lunches. And not those kind of business lunches.
I've had two sandwiches in two visits - one a pulled pork, with a heaping helping of sweet sauced pork - not the best pork I've ever had, but certainly passable. As much as I gripe about sweet sauce, sometimes this kind of thing is a guilty pleasure. It came with some nice cheese on a good bun - very satisfying sandwich. And that's served with a big helping of delicious crinkle cut fries. Plenty of salt, which is great - so many places are afraid to salt fries now. They're not health food. Let's do this.
Sandwich number two was the big winner - the spicy pork loin. Just what it sounds like - really tasty spice rubbed pork loin, roasted peppers and cheese on grilled bread. Very good. Almost 4 star good. I should have gotten it the first time when one of my clients announced he was in a rut and could basically only order that one sandwich. What a fool I am.
The price is pretty well in line with what I'm willing to pay for an actual sit down lunch. There are some more expensive entrees, and I'm sure I could run the tab up if I was a drinker, but otherwise I really have no complaints. If I tried some more stuff and quality stayed where it is now, or came back with a group that wanted to hang out for a happy hour, I could see this becoming a 4 star.
If I could, I'd give Firkin 3 1/2 stars. Â It was cute, but almost too trendy. Â They almost try a little too hard. Â It's also CRAZY loud, so if you head there with a group, don't expect to hear all of your party.
I was a big fan of the beer menu. Â Lots of great choices and good descriptions. Â Made it a little easier for people in our party to order that might have been a little less beer savvy. Â
Overall, the food we tried was delicious. Â All the apps we tried were tasty (fried asparagus, goat cheese, pepper shooters and the pretzels) but I think we all agreed the pretzel was the best. Â
For dinner, we tried a burger, the smoked salmon sandwich, the veggie burger and the mac and cheese. Â Everything was delicious, except for the mac and cheese. Â It was not nearly as cheesy as one would hope, nor did it have much flavor. Â Sad, because the description was so tempting.
The sides were also all very good. Â The fries were AMAZING. I'd highly recommend getting them.
I can see myself heading back to try some more stuff. Â The menu is pretty tempting.
For a suburban bar, Firkin has found the perfect balance of trendy and gourmet. Â With a rotating drink/food menu and decor, this spot offers a unique dining experience for each guest. Â
I indulged in: In house lemonade, 4 Oranges Grapefruit, Goat Cheese, Calamari, and Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms.
Tip: Sit at the tables for more friendly, quicker service.
Great servers, awesome decor, and the food is A-mazing!
The Baked French Onion is to die for and not too salty, like most.
The Akaushi burger is out of this world.
Best beef, it melts in your mouth. This burger should really be a desert its so heavenly.
The soft shell crab sliders were out of this world as well (too bad its only when they're in season).
Great beer list!!!!
I cannot wait to come back and try EVERYTHING else on the menu.
Magical. Just plain, old magical.
We visited Firkin on the recommendation of a colleague who knows my need for craft beer and good food.
Where has this place been my whole life?
First, expect them to be busy. This is indicative of the quality of food and the experience here. Good restaurants and bars aren't empty. The good news is you can entertain yourself at the bar with their amazing craft beer list, which includes a nitrogen option and a cask option. They allegedly serve other drinks, including champagne by the glass, but with a beer list this good, why bother?
All of the food we've tried has been incredible. Of particular note are the lobster tacos. Yes, scoff away. I said lobster tacos. They will change your life (in a good way). The gourmet macaroni and cheese is reportedly good according to those I've dined with (I haven't tried it due to a mushroom allergy). The fish tacos are fantastic. And there was some sort of London broil fajitas amazingness one night as well.
Don't rush to get a table -- sitting at the bar garners you service that's just as attentive and the bartenders are hilarious and engaging.
The decor changes monthly, but expect eclectic on any visit. And expect greatness.
One of my very favorite restaurants in the Chicagoland area. Firkin is trendy, unique and DELICIOUS! They have a ton of different and craft beers on tap and in bottles including some local beers (Goose Island Matilda... my FAVORITE). Their menu is eclectic, but not so much that it's weird. I typically start off with edamame as an appetizer then move to teriyaki chicken pasta as my entreé (sauce on the side, they lay it on a bit too heavy for my taste).
The deçor is to die for! They change it up for every season/holiday. New Years has to be my favorite decorations!
They have live music every Thursday who come from downtown Chicago and are SO good. The place fills up though, so you have to get there early! :)
Overall, BEST BAR IN LIBERTYVILLE hands down!
Cute bar, comfy atmosphere, and nice beer selection (always a plus in my book). There is a parking lot located behind the building. Loved the hanging string lights; I'm a sucker for certain kinds of lighting, particularly low lighting. It just sort of sets a good mood for me. The decorations also put a smile on my face. A lot of deep sea decor in the dining room and beer signs on the wall behind the bar. This place just has a lot to look at.
The bartender was very knowledgable about the beer and was describing the $99 bottle of beer we were pondering about. It's called Tactical Nuclear Penguin and it's the world's strongest beer, coming in at a whopping 32%. They were out of it, but if they did have it and if it was on draught, I would have been really tempted to try it.
You know you're in the right kind of bar when they serve some types of beer in snifters, such as the Burton Baton we had. A very flavorful oak-aged ale and strong, too (my kind of beer). Also had a Maharaja Imperial IPA that was delicious.
Be prepared to get bumped into quite often if you're standing at the bar because many people squeeze by. It's not that the bar was packed, but that there isn't really much of an isle to walk through to get from one end of the bar to the other.
I didn't try their food, but it looks really good and props to Firkin for having artisanal cheeses. Very exquisite and classy!
I definitely would like to return sometime soon.
After finding myself in Waukegan, yes, I said WAUKEGAN, I was desperately trying to find something in the the area to make the trip worthwhile. Â The yelp app totally hooked this one up. Â It seems like there are several craft beer bars down Milwaukee Street's downtown area, but I decided to try this one since the website had me at "arguably the best beer bar in America". Â They also taunted me with accolades such as "Draft Magazine's Top 150 Bars", and "Chicago Magazine's Top 100 Bars"...basically they had me at BAR (with craft beer) but these things pushed them over the top. Â I'm glad they did.
I love this place. Â I love how it looks, I love how it tastes, I love the people in it...just everything. Â
Let's start with the beer list. Â *Cue angels and harps* Â HEAAAAAAAVEN. Â There were so many awesome draughts (that apparently change often, so check their website!) that I didn't even LOOK at the bottles. Â In addition to the awesome breweries a far, they had a sweet selection of local and midwest breweries too: Â Tighthead, Flossmoor, Two Brothers, Half Acre, Great Lakes, Bell's, Founder's, etc. Â I ended up deciding on a Tighthead IRIE IPA (132 IBUs...PERFECTION.) and Flossmoor Station's IPA. Â YUM. Â Â
The food was good too. Â The soft pretzels with mustard blew my freaking mind. Â I had the asiago sourdough and my man had the regular bavarian and both were excellent. Â Deciding what else to eat here was a huge issue for me because EVERYTHING looks good. Â I wanted so badly to try all the local cheeses (some unpasteurized from localish co-ops!) and pair them with the suggested drinks, but I didn't have the time or the body that allows that kind of BAC to invade it. Â Unfortunate, I know. Â We ended up getting a grassfed cheeseburger and the mac and cheese. Â In retrospect, I wish I would have gotten a ton of small plates, because I was jealous watching all the goodness going to the tables around me. Â
I will be back for more, Firkin. Â Get ready.
Finally I make it to the Firkin. Â What gives? Â A beer lover like myself should be ashamed. Â It's not my fault, I swear. Â My partner's parents complain it's too expensive, my other reason would out my sister as a crankypants, so I will keep that one to myself, but jeez it took me long enough.
The beer list is, as Yelped about, is indeed nicely curated, extensive, and not outrageously priced. Â You can find good stuff for $5 and there are a lot of places that this cannot be said about. Â Let's be honest. Â
The food is not cheap, but there are options that won't send you to the poorhouse. Â The chicken schnitzel hit the spot and the other folks at the table liked what they got. Â I would have tried a burger b/c boy do I love grass fed beef, but I'd already been to burger night once this week. Â Not that that always stops me...
Service was fine, and I will say that this place is teeny tiny, and was busy on a Tuesday night, so if it's a weekend, you might wait.
Keeping rating at 4 stars, although tempted to lower to 3 since my dish was the worst out of the 3 we ordered.
I came here with two friends for dinner Wednesday night around 6:30pm. Wait was about 20 min.
1. Jerk chicken, 13
Disappointing. Didn't like the sauce on the jerk chicken, could have been hotter, and just boring overall.
2. Mango chicken, 15
Not bad. Chicken was cooked nicely, although having tostados on top of their beans and rice was a bit odd.
3. Blackened redfish, 17
Delicious. Redfish was perfectly cooked and crispy, and the potatoes were excellent.
Firkin: Â there's no other place like it. Â I've been here enough times now to have tried various menu items, martinis and hefeweizen beer selections (my fave type of beer).
First off, this restaurant is located in downtown Libertyville, which is sometimes pretentious, but mostly a lively and attractive area. Â There are many other restaurants and bars within walking distance in the surrounding area which is what attracts me to this part of Libertyville.
The interior of Firkin is warm, inviting and lively, usually with a really good assortment of music playing, whether Al Green or some worldly music that I'm not familiar with. Â The decor is like no other place I've seen before, with little baubles and knick knacks all over. Â Be warned that this place gets quite busy during peak hours...with quite a bit of a wait for a table, or a seat at the bar. Â I like to come here when it's slower and I prefer to eat at the bar as opposed to a table.
Beer lovers...this is the place for you. Â Mickey Finns (right across the street) is great and has their own brewery, but Firkin trumps Mickey Finns as far as selection is concerned. Â If I have beer at Firkin, I usually chose the Goose Island "Matilda" or "Sofie" Belgian style ales. Â I LOVE the Milk Stout. and the Plank Hefeweiss.
If you're not a fan of beer, they have tasty cocktails...the cosmo is good, so is the "bellini martini". Â I recently tried a new wine here that I'll be picking up a bottle of (Cigarzin Zinfadel, M. Cosentino).
As far as the food is concerned, the "Tallgrass Grass-fed" hamburgers are the tastiest...especially with blue cheese and bacon. Â Hmmm, bacon. Â The fries are full of salty potato-y goodness. Â If I'm in the mood for lighter food, the "warm goat cheese salad" is TO DIE FOR. Â I split one this past weekend with my friend and I was so sad because I had to share it.
Other than that, they have tacos, burgers, sandwiches and more traditional entrees. Â A few of my favorite appetizers are the salmon rolled with goat cheese, applewood smoked bacon (more bacon), edamame and fried asparagus. Â I feel like anyone can come here and find something that appeals to them. Â
Don't base your opinion of Firkin off of my review...come visit and see for yourself!
(If you don't like reading - skip to the bottom for my final thoughts)
Let me just say that I live in Chicago and I make regular trips out to Libertyville just to go to this bar with my SO. Â The food is delicious. Â The atmosphere is lively. Â The weekly live music is unbeatable. Â THIS IS MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT/BAR IN CHICAGOLAND.
-----DRINKS:-----
With the number of drink selections on tap, in bottles, and lining the shelves, it's no wonder that this restaurant was named one of America's 100 Best Beer Bars by Draft Magazine in 2011. Â Resident beer connoisseur, Dave, mans the bar and helps indecisive customers choose a brew that matches their palate preference for the night. Â Often times, I go there - tell him what mood I'm in, and he'll serve me up a tall glass of beer that I've never had before. Â He's never failed me, as his recommendations have always been spot-on. Â Dave also brings in rare beers and posts a notice on Facebook to come and enjoy them while they're still on tap. Â If you're not a beer person... be careful - the beers he serves you will make you into one!
-----FOOD:-----
The food is always delicious. Â I've only had the vegetarian options here (and there are many), but I've heard the meat entrees are great as well. Â The prices aren't too expensive either. Â My suggestion - try anything with mushrooms and anything with goat cheese. Â You can't go wrong.
-----ENTERTAINMENT:-----
Live Blues and Classic Jams speckle the week. Â During a night with live music, the pub fills with local crowds and visitors from adjacent suburbs, all dancing to tunes of music we all know the lyrics to. Â Harry and Peter, a duo that masters the guitar and the harmonica, rock out to hits from the 60s, 70s, as everyone sings along between sipping on cocktails and dining on pasta. Â Throw out some requests and they may ask you to come up to sing with them! Â Along with the staff, the musical guests are some of the nicest folks I've ever met
-----SEATING:-----
Sometimes it gets really crowded during the holiday seasons and weekend evenings. Â Even so, you usually don't have to wait too long to get a table. Â Just grab a drink and by the time you're halfway through it, your table should be ready. Â Even with the large crowds, it hasn't seemed to affect service too much.
-----LOCATION:-----
Easy to get to, and plenty of parking. Â You can park on the street, park in the lot in the back, or park in the parking garage about a block away.
-----FINAL THOUGHTS:-----
The food is delicious.
The drinks are unique.
The service is fantastic.
Come ready to eat, drink, and be merry. Â Hey - you might even run into a few celebrities along the way (ahem... Frank Thomas).
Yum. I came here once on a Friday night and it was super packed. Me and my bf waited around for a table for our group, and we were practically drooling over the food as it came out of the kitchen. We shared baked oysters to start, which were lovely. I ordered the Caribbean salmon, which had some sort of tomato cream sauce and it was served over rice. I don't know if it was because I was super hungry (I didn't eat lunch that day) or if it was really just that good, but it was the best thing I remember eating recently. My bf got steak fajitas which were alright.
The two of us came back again about a week later, the day after Thanksgiving. I got the buffalo chicken salad, which was probably one of the best salads I've ever had, and my bf got the grilled salmon sandwich which was also delicious.
