Let me start by saying that I give the Fishmonger 5 stars for being a perfect rendition of being exactly what it portends to be; or at least it did yesterday when we had lunch there!

It was a very hot and humid day in Woods Hole, but we were fortunately seated immediately in the corner table facing Great Harbor. We had windows on two sides and a wonderful sea breeze to go with the view.

The closest I can come to a negative was my Captain's and Coke, which was served in a 12 ounce water glass. Before our waitress even set it down I said "that won't do" and asked her to take it back and put it in an 18 ounce draft beer glass with more ice and soda (no more liquor) and she instantly complied.

The Fishmonger Cafe makes no pretense of being gourmet, although the food presentation had certain artistry and subtly of flavor. Three of us had fish tacos; which were local cod. My guest asked and received his grilled (not fried), on corm tortilla's (no flour) and a large side of beans (no rice). Our very pleasant server said -- "no problem."

I ordered them too, but I ordered mine "straight up" as the chef intended them. After lunch we agreed that the flour tortillas -- thin and toasty -- were superior, as were the large order of beans, which came in a small crock -- baked with a little cheese on top. The combination of cod, veggies, cilantro and aoili inside was perfect on the palette.

Our other guest ordered the roasted root vegetable salad special with grilled shrimp. It arrived with 3 crostini's topped with herbs and tapenade I believe. This was one of the prettiest salads I've ever seen.

Great food, great location, great views, sea breeze on a hot day,  fast and responsive service -- if that's not 5 stars, I'm not sure what is!

Bad experience and bad food. Would give no stars if possible. Service was semi okay. Coffee tasted like dirty mop water. Grilled sandwich tasted awful - thickly sliced meat with spinach and cranberry sauce all tasted like it was warmed up in the  microwave. Pro - clam chowder was good. Won't come back and wouldn't recommend.

Stopped in for an early dinner on Wednesday and my boyfriend and I were disappointed to say the least. I was expecting to pay more for dinner being in Woods Hole, with all of the individuals getting on and off the ferry to the Vineyard, however paying $56 for two entrees and a sprite was ridiculous (especially based on the food quality).

I had the fish and chips, but subbed whipped potatoes for the french fries.. two moderate sized pieces of fried cod (which, as a positive, was very light and obviously fresh) were placed on top of a liquefied pile of potatoes. I love whipped potatoes, but this was extreme! In addition, the breading on the cod is so bizarre... it is thick and I could literally pull it off in a couple of pieces. My boyfriend got the jumbo shrimp and this came with 5 and they again had the gross, thick breading.

Lastly, there was a family eating from the sandwiches menu (which isn't labeled with specific hours) the table over and we weren't even offered this menu.

We ate at MANY amazing places in Falmouth and I would never recommend this restaurant.

We went late Friday night and got a nice table by the window with a nice water view.  The chowder was very good - nice and creamy.  I had the fisherman's platter which was very fresh - in particular, the scallops were excellent.  My wife had rigatoni with lobster which was very nice.  Service was good and prices are reasonable.

was in last weekend for breakfast and really disappointed. I've been visiting this place for over 20 years and have noticed the last couple of years the food and service is not what it used to be. I'm guessing it changed ownership. Our server was obviously never trained and I had to ask for specials, chase her for water etc. That's managements fault. The coffee was an obvious reheat from the other day or it had been cooking for many hours, I couldn't even get through half a cup is was so burned and bitter. The omelet I had was so salty I couldn't eat that either. The server was oblivious to a customer who didn't drink his coffee or eat his meal. So, as much as I like the location, near the Woods Hole drawbridge, I don't think I'll return again.

Good local spot to grab a bite and a beer, but $23 for a standard lobster roll...come on!  I've had better for much less.

Great place. First impression on the outside I thought it was going to be just another fried seafood shack that come a dime a dozen in this area. It was way above our expectations. Had a great variety of seafood as well as vegetarian dishes. Vegetarian chili was great as well as their Mediterranean platter and grilled veggies. Great place that hits all angles and caters to all styles of eating.

Had Sunday breakfast with 3 adults and 5 children ages 4-9.  A great round table, friendly service.  All the kids drinks were served in lidded cups with straws... and each kid had, of course, a special way they wanted their food.  Waitress was friendly and patient .  Food was terrific from Belgium waffles to Eggs Benedict where the eggs were perfect NOT HARD .    Add to that a great view of the Woods Hole bridge and the boats going in an out of the harbor....  Good Take.

Brought the family here for a lovely quintessential Cape Cod dinner, including mussels and fish & chips. Great service. Quick drink refills. Beautiful view. Most of my party couldn't finish their meals because they were so big, yet quantity didn't replace quality on any. Fish was fresh and light; the wife reported that the mussels were savory. Definitely worth your time and money.

This place was soooo good! We had the clam chowder (YUM), crab cakes (YUM!!) and the grilled scallop plate with onion fries. It was absolutely delicious. They were perfectly accommodating when we requested grilled scallops instead of fried. Our server Kathleen was friendly, fast and quick to offer suggestions.

As a local Woods Hole-ian, the 'Monger' is my favorite! Good food, GREAT service, and fantastic location, it's the place to be. The staff is professional and very friendly. From my first visit I was treated like family, and it's never stopped.
The food is also great and I've had nearly everything on the menu. It's sophisticated, fresh and delicious without being pretentious. Most importantly, the prices are just and will not take advantage of tourist wallets, unlike Quick's Hole, Phusion and Shuckers. Great place to bring families and groups. By far, my favorite time to visit are Sat or Sunday mornings. Can't beat the price, the service, or the food. You won't be disappointed and will always leave smiling.

A great place to eat lunch while in Wood Hole.  Last time I had the fish tacos, my wife had the tuna salad and my son had the salmon.  All dishes were great (I know, I tasted them all!)
Have eaten here several times and will continue to go back.  Service was very good too, attentive, but relaxed.  No rush on the cape!

Terrible, terrible food.      Very expensive, over-fried, over-breaded seafood.      Save your stomach and your wallet and eat someplace else.

I know that I'm a spoiled NY'er with access to delicious food whenever I want it and I guess I've started to really expect it everywhere I travel too. I figured what better place to eat than a cute little place called Fish Monger in Cape Cod? Well, my husband and I went and we left feeling a bit unsatisfied. I had the thai shrimp on the appetizer menu and a cup of chowder and my husband had the salmon. All felt overdone, the sauces all too sweet. The chowder was the best thing about the meal, for sure. I liked the set up it's not a super fancy place and we were comfortable with our 2 year old - they even had a kids menu. It was fine, but not great and we were really hoping for great.

What a delightful surprise!  We were drawn in because outside they had a vegetarian/gluten free/vegan menu posted.  It was just a one pager of all the menu items that fit those categories, but it's a great and helpful gesture on the part of the chef.  The portobello burger was fantastic (more than just a nod to us poor vegetarians that visit a seafood town), I loved the sprouts and balsamic and the surprise addition of hummus.  I don't eat meat, but my dining companions said the oysters and fish tacos were great.  We came for a late lunch and service was quick and very friendly.  I'd recommend sitting by the windows so you can do some boat and people watching!

An authentic atmosphere. We had lunch on a day where we were able to experience the sea breeze through the entire restaurant; and watch the draw bridge raising and lowering every half hour. Great beer and cocktail selection, and the food was really fresh and extremely well prepared. The service was casual and very friendly. We felt really welcome.

I just ate here yesterday. I didn't wait 6 months like Shannon R. to post my review.

My son and I ate at the bar area for lunch. I had an amazing vegetarian chili that was a good bowl portion and my son had the fish sandwich. We both loved our meals. My son wanted a chocolate shake and the bartender/server didn't hesitate to make him one. The server was great. Made us feel welcomed and didn't have a problem with a 12 year old wanting something off the menu. Prices were reasonable and our food was timely and fantastic. I'll be back .

Three of us had one of our worst dinners ever at Fishmonger.  To start, they do not provide bread, even when asked,  , and were very slow to serve drinks or take orders.
I ordered mussels, which had a very bad odor and taste, and came in a bland grayish broth. We should have sent them back, but didn't. Mussels must be fresh and certainly should be here inFalmouth! My husband ordered salmon, which came with overly sweet barbecue sauce on top of soggy cornbread, and limp broccoli. Our grandson had steak tips with mashed potatoes.  If they weren't instant, they tasted like they were. Also more limp broccoli. The Caesar salad  was unappealing- just limp greens with lots of packaged croutons.Prices were high as well- most entrees in the mid to high20s up to low30s.Very overpriced.

What a disappointment since these owners took over.

I was really surprised to see the negative reviews. We went in for lunch because the place we were planning on eating wasn't open. The food was outstanding. I had fish tacos that were some of the best I've ever had with very fresh tasting and perfectly cooked fish. It is a little pricey but for the quality I thought it was reasonable. The only downside for us was that with two small kids it was crowded but this wasn't a big deal. Oh, and it's definitely a hipster hotspot for the area. I would definitely eat there again (in spite of the hipsters).

Hubby and I ate here last summer for lunch and were sorely disappointed.  We ordered steamers as an appetizer, which came out at the same time as our lunch.  We probably only ate a quarter of them because they were so dirty and gritty.  You'd think a place right on the water could get better seafood than that!  Our server said they order whatever is cheapest, and not necessarily local.

I had the black bean soup also, which was just okay.  Overall, very overpriced for the quality of food you get.  Hopefully, they'll turn over the staff quickly.

I continue to try the food here when I come for trivia and drinks. I ordered from the trivia special menu and went small (because of my previous disappointments) with a cup of vegetarian black bean chili. Pretty boring. I think most decent burrito places would strain something like this and use the beans in a burrito. $5 for a cup of bland black beans? Served luke warm? Forget it...I'm eating at home before trivia from now on and munching on their popcorn if I need a snack. They should really clean that thing out...I definitely got a popped kernel last time that tasted mildewy.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Fishmonger having spent a lot of time there when I was a little one. The owner has changed multiple times since then so I went back to the Fishmonger to indulge in a bit of nostalgia and found it to still be pretty good. You can't beat the view of Woods Hole and the people watching for the bridge and I am in love with the Cape Cod Reuben which is a Reuben with fried cod instead of corned beef...an amazing invention.

I could eat at Fishmonger's every day, three times a day! Breakfasts are wonderful with many creative and yummy dishes served up. The breakfast burrito is amazing! Lunch is great with some fabulous sandwiches, the Cuban was pretty tasty. But for a wonderful treat, go for dinner. The asparagus salad is wonderful, the calamari served with a balsamic coating are just a couple of appetizers that were outstanding! I can't decide which entree is the best as every entree I have had has been excellent. We have taken out of town guests there as well as in town friends and all have said the same thing"Outstanding!". The service is awesome, friendly and attentive. Ask for Jenna. She makes our visits there a delight! This has become one of our favorite places to go.

Was in a hurry and stopped in for a quick bite.  The service was fast, friendly and good.  We had clam chowder to start, which was good.  The meals were good, but overpriced for what you get.  I had shrimp and french fries for $24, when I have have had the same meal, with more shrimp, for $12.99 in many other places.  And while the atmosphere was nice, clean, good view, it wasn't exactly fine dining to ask for $24 for the 5 shrimp and average fries.  But, outside of the over-priced menu, it was good food and a nice place to eat.  I think had we had more time to sit, I would have enjoyed it more.

I cannot believe I neglected to review this last year! I wanted to return this trip and I did, bringing the local family members along. We all had delicious meals. I over ordered with a cup of tasty chowder, the lobster bruschetta (delicious!, and I prefer crab to lobster, normally) and the salad with cranberries and nuts. I remembered their salads from our previous visit.

I really like this restaurant and I prefer its ambiance to some of the others in the area. It has a fresher more modern feel. Have only eaten dinner here so cannot comment on breakfast or lunch but I bet those are good, too. Nicely made G&T too. Good, friendly, non-jaded, service.

While the view is great, the food, for the most part, is not. The clam chowder was excellent, with a wonderful smoky bacon flavor and just the right amount of cream.   Looking forward to fried clams, I asked the waitress and got a big thumbs up on them.  When they arrived, they looked like they had been burned. They were overcooked and all one could taste was dark fried batter. The clams came with a cous cous salad which was totally tasteless and cole slaw also tasteless.  Even though I was hungry I couldnt eat either they were so bad.
The waitress, interestingly enough, didnt come by to see how things were and I can only guess why.  I probably would have sent the whole mess back.  As it was, we watched her chatting with another waitress the entire time and completely ignoring the tables.
Needless to say I will never go back.

The appetizer of Thai shimp = I highly recommend it.  Refreshingly light and very tasty.

Fish n chips = I wouldn't order again.  The upside is they are not very greasy which for a fried food is a bit odd, but nice at the same time.  The downside is the breading has no flavor and it lacks the crispy crunch I enjoy with a good fish n chips.  Lots of tarter sauce for this fish.

Service = Incredibly nice.  A heavily Bostonian accented woman with brown hair and the owner made sure our water glasses were full and we had all we needed.

Atmosphere = Nice, well lite during the day from sunlight, window seating overlooking the harbor.

I've had better fish & chips, but I would try this place again to find fare that suits me.

Wonderful, cozy restaurant was exactly what we were looking for on the Cape. We were staying in Falmouth and after looking there, we decided to jump over to Wood's Hole to check out the place. Being off season, many place were open, but the Fishmonger was there, glowing bright.

The inside was lit with hurricane lamps on each table and had a live jazz pianist all evening. We got a seat by the water and we warmly greeting by our server. They were very accommodating of our requests (my wife wanted the lobster roll from the lunch menu and I just want the main dish from the Prix Fixe.) They have a great menu with a smart mix of seafood standard and more eclectic choices (like the short ribs with cheesy polenta and red wine...amazing...)

The service was stellar and all of her recommendations were spot on. If we're ever in town again, it's certainly a place that will return to. Absolutely recommended.

I got a table by the window and got to watch the sunset as sailboats skimmed across the water.

It was my first of many trips to the area and the waiter and I had a good conversation about local surfing before getting down to the business of what I was going to eat.  He was very knowledgable about the menu and when I had questions about the wines, he returned quickly with a couple of the chef's recommendations.

I settled on a bowl of littleneck chowder in a fresh-baked bread bowl.  So good that I seriously thought of getting seconds.  Then,  I skipped the main course and went straight to dessert  - warm cranberry poundcake with lemon curd topping.  Yep - it was as good as it sounds!  (I'm definitely going to copy that for my next dinner party.)

Basically, this was comfort-food done to perfection and the service was great.  (Maybe I'll upgrade it to five stars when I'm hungry enough to try the main course.)

Had dinner there last night. Sunday night, sat us right away. Our waitress name was Leslie and I must say she was the hardest working waitress I've encountered.
The fish was good, but the couscous was amazing!
Overall I liked the fish monger and would go back!!!!

Between a late lunch and an early dinner we just had to stop in for a trough of fried clams. Well since I don't eat seafood I just had a pint of cold beer. But the rest of my extended family were on a mission and were determined that this would be the best day to feast on sea creatures.

Judging by the amount of time to devour a giant plate of fried sea aliens, I would say they were very tasty. Five star tasty? probably not but as they kept squeezing lemon juice over the platter.

Nice location next to the draw bridge and plenty of beers on tap to choose from.

We were a party of 6 adults, 2 older children and 1 toddler.   We were looking forward to a great dinner after impressive reviews and their menu online, so we made a reservation.  The interior was nice, overlooking the water.  I sat down and looked at the menu and found that it was not at all what we saw online.  It was like we walked into a totally different restaurant.  It wasn't at all we had expected.  There wasn't something for everyone, which is why we originally picked it.

After sitting down for a couple of minutes we talked to the server and explained the situation and decided to leave.  The server was kind, however the troll of an owner/manager was not.  My family all left, but I was retreiving my portable booster for my son.  As they exited, he muttered loudly (but only loud enough for 2 customers and myself to hear), "It's too bad you can only afford McDonalds". I was totally horrified, the 2 other customers were as well.

I confronted him and explained that his restaurant was misrepresented on their own website, and their menu was completely different.  He then told me that they were under new management/ownership for the last couple of months..   I told him it wasn't our issue, he needed to update his website.  As I left, I told him not to be so quick to judge people, $ wasn't the issue at all.

We talked to the server across the way about our experience, and apparently he has been making himself very known around the little town of Woods Hole.  We were glad we spent our $ elsewhere!

To tell the truth, I wasn't impressed with Fishmonger's.  They served up standard cafe fare and sported a full bar but in this fisherman's haven, I was expecting more and fresher seafood offerings than were available.  At our table we shared the shrimp cocktail, scrod tostada, an albacore salad (which seemed to be canned tuna atop greens) a few burgers and a couple cape cod salads.  If not for the service, I'd place this at 2-2.5 stars, the service gives it a solid 3.  My cocktail was good and stiff, the service was phenomenal (separate checks for a TEN person party), but the food offerings betrayed this establishments name.   Hungry, but not in to spectacular?  This is your place.

I suppose I went on a busy night, as they did not pay much attention to us.  Our consolation prize was the apology from the guy, whom I assume to be the manager, who informed us that he usually likes to come around to all the tables.

I would stay away from the corn/clam chowder, as it is watery and lacking in the clams.  Boo.  But everything else I tried was fantastic.  Delicious crab cakes, PEI mussels, even the fries (chile-dusted) were excellent.  As an entree, I had the seared sea scallops that were drizzled in an orange, grapefruit sauce, and were tenderly scrumptious.  Would not mind going back for a lunch the next time I am in the area...
