Walked in, saw someone taking cover charges behind bullet proof glass and the 400-pound bouncer searching patrons for weapons. Â And walked out.
Due to Peter's comments, I will retract "bullet proof" from my review because I don't actually know if the glass was bullet proof. Â However, there was a young lady seated in a glass booth in the entry way on Thanksgiving-Eve. Â
Peter, I realize the bouncers are there for safety, but when a patron doesn't feel safe immediately after walking in the door, something is wrong: could be a combination of the clientele and establishment. Â Either way, we don't intend on returning.
I haven't been here since 2002. When I was at Great Lakes, it was a restauraunt and a club after hours. It was small for a club, but it was real cool, though. A lot of the sailors, that are over 21, go over there and party. They play some nice Hip Hop. A cute white girl, flirted with me, at this club. She told me to make sure, I give her my number, before I leave. I replied by saying," You know there is motel, across the street." Her eyes got about the size of Jenifer Anistan's nipples, after I said that. She didn't say another word, to me the rest of the night. I tried to buy her a rose, but no can do.  Oh well. Weird thing, is, a couple weeks later I played a pick  up basketball game, against her team. She came to hole, and I accidently gave her a hard foul. I helped her up though.
Review Source:My family went to Flanagan's tonight & we will not be going back. Â I didn't think the atmosphere was bad (the place was clean & welcoming) & our waitress (Amber) was very nice to us. Â However, the food quality is awful! Â Our bloomin' onion was okay but the Ranch tasted expired or something. Â My potato soup was just awful. Â My wife's salad bar was a joke. Â They has old lettuce & about two toppings. Â One topping was whole tomatoes. Â My burger was the worst. Â It was way overcooked & the toppings were undercooked. Â Imagine a burnt beef patty with raw green peppers on it. Â My son's chicken fingers were so tough he couldn'tveven bite through them!
All in all, this was a horrible meal.
This place is a huge family style restaurant, complete with it's large menu selection. I was happy to see fried chicken on the menu , being in the mood for it. The salad bar is not very impressive, but it does have the basics, good enough I suppose. The rolls that came to the table were ok, pre soaked with melted butter. The fried chicken is very good, crispy on the outside with moist and juicy meat. The breading was a little on the bland side but had great consistency. I would definitely come back here, and think it might be sooner rather than later.
Review Source:A sign outside said best fajitas... Um no. I love me some fajitas and I knew this was not the place for fajitas but my husband got them anyway and boy was he disappointed. I go the chicken wings they were ok not that spicy but ok. I live in base houseing and its unfortunate that this is the resturant around the corner bleh!
Review Source:My husband and I went to Flanagan's on a weekday. We arrived 20 minutes after they opened for lunch, and the door was still locked. The manager saw us walking away, and hollered after us to come back. We were promptly sat at a table because the place was (obviously) empty.
The place reeked of smoke, and sweat. There was something spilled on one of the chairs at our table so we asked to be moved. The table we moved to was wobbly, which was somewhat annoying.
We ordered our food and it arrived quickly. I can't even recall what we ordered because of the incident that occured next. After eating a bit of my food, I had to use the restroom. When I went into the ladies room it smelled like feces. Gross, but hey it is a bathroom. I did my business, and went to wash my hands. That's when I saw it!! Poop in the sink!!
I walked out, and immediately told my husband that I think we should leave. The manager was very apologetic, and didn't make us pay for our meal.
We won't be eating there ever ever ever again.
Okay this place was just plain awful. We stopped here after my Daughters Bootcamp graduation. My daughter and Wife had sandwich, and my son and I had their buffets.
The Buffet's were $9.95 and were terrible, half the food was burned and tasted plain bad. This is an example of kitchen staff not caring or tasting the product they put out. Avoid this place like the plague.
Despite the name this is one of those Greek-owned restaurants that has just about anything you would want on its menu. Â The food is usually pretty good as long as you order the classics and the service is also on-point. Â As a word of caution this place is half restaurant and half sports bar and is probably the closest bar to the Great Lakes Naval base so it can get packed with sailors on leave. Â The bar area is large with lots of games and while the beer tap selection is large they do not offer any microbeers.
Review Source:Food was edible, but not good by any means. It gave all 3 of us a little bit of a stomach ache. The menu is huge... you can get everything there from stir fry to fajitas to greek salads... maybe we didnt order the right things... the ruben sandwich was too greasey and tasted funny, I was 1/2 way done and realized they forgot the thousand island dressing, the steak was really tough, the chicken in the combo fajitas was good but not the steak or peppers, french onion soup was VERY bland. But on a high note the services was GREAT, I loved out server and how welcoming the place was. Drinks were really good too. I would go back just to see if it was a bad night that we went.
Review Source:Awhile ago, I was in northern Chicago for some business. We stayed at the Red Carpet Inn. Since I wasn't with a particularly adventurous group, we ate at the closest place we could find - Flanagan's - several times. Assuming the restaurant is still there, it's now almost 13 years old.
They have an outside patio but we sat inside to avoid the Chicago winter weather.
They offer steak, prime rib, ribs, seafood, pasta, and salads. I've tried their split pea soup (fine), clam chowder (fine), chicken noodle soup (fine), spare ribs (nice), steak and shrimp (on par with Ponderosa), and their extensive salad bar. They also have a buffet which isn't half bad.
Service (Sheila) was pleasant and friendly. We also talked to Andy (then a manager) and Pete (also a manager?) who were both welcoming. For the service alone, next time I'm in northern Chicago I'll stop by for a quick bite.
