I really love the concept of the pool bar. Wish I had my swim top and shorts. The bartender was really rude to my husband blowing him off because he wasn't ready but then holding up his hand and waving him off. Then came over with a really bad attitude. I really want to try this place again...but its going to be hard to convince the hubs.

Great for a drink if you've been on the beach.  Better than average bar food.  Monday's are buy 1 get 1 free burritos and they are tasty.  Wednesday is college night and they serve $0.50 beers which I think why Wednesday's at Float were nick-named DUI night.  I like Float sometimes during the day, all of the bartenders are great, but sometimes at night this 33 year old (who still likes to party) feels just a tad old when going there to drink at night.  If you're under 27, hit it up, but those who are 30 somethings might want to walk across the street to Beerfoot for a slightly more mature crowd.  Get in their pool?  I leave that up to you as I never have or will.

This place is a little odd to me with a pool in it, but the people in the pool area seem to be having a great time. I would say it's a great small bar to hangout in while at the beach. I had the tacos, which were good, but they need to chill on the sauce. The burger looked tasty and it comes with WAFFLE FRIES my favorite! Our waiter was really friendly and the bartender who directed us when we first came in was nice as well. I'm looking forward to trying this place again.

For people watching, Float is hard to beat. There's tremendous entertainment value observing folks imbibing and splish-splashing, so for this alone you should consider visiting Float. I won't be commenting on the food because it's been forever since I ate anything there. If it is helpful, I don't remember it being alarmingly bad or anything...but that said, it would seem it wasn't all that memorable either. So, on to the drinks. I am perfectly happy with my seven & seven served in a plastic cup (no glass at the pool!) with a lime wedge and a lemon wedge, but poor Dan has serious issues with Float's beer selection and won't consume their mixed drinks because they store bottles in the same ice they use for said drinks. Storing bottles in the drink ice does seem odd to me but I've decided that the alcohol should kill any germs that might result from this practice. Back to the sad, sad beer selection: on draft, they have Dos Equis, Ziegenboch, and Land Shark plus (probably) the old standbys Bud/Bud Light and other similar brews...Dan says he doesn't recall because his eyes filter all that swill out. Much to his annoyance, there is really excellent beer at Beerfoot Beach Bar, but you can't buy beer there and bring it to Float because of stupid liquor laws. So, ultimately, I can only drag him here occasionally, and when I do, he looks so aggrieved that it seriously screws with my enjoyment. By the way, Beerfoot and Float are owned by the same entity!

Stopped in to Float one Tuesday night after seeing the $9.95 steak special listed on their website. My boyfriend was the one really excited about the steak, so he was more sad than I was when we found out they didn't do it anymore but we decided to stay anyway.
We sat there for about 10 minutes before anyone ever came over to say hey and give us menus. This always bugs me when there is not a full restaurant and the servers dont look very busy at all. If you are slammed, just say "hi, I'll be right with you." That way we still know we exist and we know you know we do too.
Finally the server came over with some menus and got our drink orders. I ordered a margarita and Nate, a beer. The margarita tasted like pure sour mix. I guess that's what I get for ordering house margaritas but at some places they are good so it's always worth a shot.
We ordered some food shortly after receiving our drinks. I ordered the soup and salad since I wasn't crazy hungry. The soup was delicious. It was a chicken tortilla soup and it was brothy but surprisingly awesome and full of flavor. I'm used to the creamy kind, but this was great! Nate got the burger and said it was just a standard bar burger and nothing really stuck out about it. We did not visit the pool part of it because well, it was a late February evening and I'm good on that. We might have to come back when it gets warmer and try it out.

Horrible service every time I come here! My friends and I came in on a Tuesday afternoon, maybe 10 people were there and and the waitress was practically ignoring us. She spent the 98% of the whole 20 minutes we were there, talking to her two male friends sitting at the bar. The margarita was gross, I honestly don't know how you can screw up a margarita. Never coming here again. I asked for a shot, and a margarita, she never brought me the shot. I didn't even finish my $5 margarita, nor did my friend. One of the other, older ladies (maybe the supervisor or manager) working there came to us right before we got up to leave and asked how everything was and my friend, being a passive person, said "good" and I just had shot him a look and decided to speak up for the group. I said "no don't lie to her...this margarita is disgusting, I can't even finish it" and she just looked at the cup...didn't say ANYTHING, not even so much as a "sorry". I wasn't expecting a free drink or anything, I was already standing up with my purse on my shoulder. I have NEVER had a good experience at this place. I decided to write a review right after this particular visit, because it rubbed me the wrong way. If you can't manage to make a decent margarita, the least you could do is work on your customer service. Love the location and the atmosphere, but the service ruins this place. It takes a lot for me to complain about anything, but The Float has done it. We left this place and went to the gay bar (stargazers?) down the road, it was dead, but the bartender was a SWEET HEART, and the drinks were so damn cheap...and even DRINKABLE! go figure.

After visiting  the Float, I realized I  need to take more trips to Galveston! The food was affordable. The drinks and ambiance fits perfectly with the essence of Galveston. When you walk in, you feel the sense of carefree lifestyle and just everyone having a good time. People in their bathing suit sippin on a cold drink by the pool. It seemed like someone's backyard party and not a bar.

I actually don't recall the exact name of the burrito we ordered but just that it was delish. Maybe the fact that I don't remember is a thumbs-up for the bar. And of course there is a pool in the back, if you are ready to dive back in the water and don't want to walk across the street!

Lot of the locals hang out here. Great place for food and drinks!

Went in on a Sunday horrible service I must say. Acted like we were bothering for drink orders and to watch basketball instead of bowling.Oh my so we ended up leaving and going to brickhouse down the road and had wonderful service.
I have been to the spot before this a few times and the food is not horrible in the past Ive had the fish tacos and sat out by the pool on the back deck and looked out onto the Gulf. I did not get in the pool and cant say Im dying to get in it either.
Great spot and idea but horrible service.
Parking is not great so you will be looking for awhile also.

Right across from our Hotel.  Happy hour 4-7.  Cheap food (burritos, fish tacos etc) and it tastes good.  Under $10, good service, happy staff.

We went on a cold rainy night and still had a great time, the bartender was very nice! Drinks were strong and cheap. The locals were laid back and friendly! The younger patrons in the corner were having fun playing beer pong.  We had a great side view of the outdoor pool that is a swim up bar. This place is probably a blast during the summer too.  Walking distance from the beach with a nice view. Good times had by all!

The barstaff was friendly and bought us a shot.  The crowd was a bit young and made this 29 year old feel old.  The music on the juke was killer though.  We went on Christmas Eve so it was too cold to swim.  I am not sure that I fully am on board with the idea of swimming in a pool bar though anyways.  I know chlorine is supposed to kill pee germs, but I still am not cool with the thought.

I would definitely return to Float Bar again someday.  Good times!

I had the Cheddar Bacon burger with waffle french fries and couldn't finish it all! The service was great when we ordered the beer..fast and friendly..but our waitress was too involved with the other customers to come back for our food order...took about 35 minutes just to get our orders in. Great view and nice place other then a distracted waitress!

A friend told me about this place a few months ago and when it came time for my Summer staycation, I decided this would be one of the places to check out on a day trip to G-town.

I was advised by said friend to show up sometime between 11:00am-12:00pm and have one drink in the pool before it got busy. I ended up having more than one drink, staying for a few hours, and chatting up with a few regulars. I really didn't expect to have such a good time.

They serve food, we didn't try any. It looked like mostly nachos and burgers. We were all about the frozen drinks. First I had a nice strong hurricane. When that drink was about done, I started noticing everyone holding this bright green frozen beverage. The bartender said it was called "Swampwater" and it was the most popular drink they had. I don't know what it was exactly, but it tasted a bit like sour apple and gave me a serious case of the sillies. I started enjoying myself even more.

There are plenty of bar stools and tables surrounding the pool so you can take a break and enjoy your food or a drink. They even have tables directly facing the ocean, or you can just enjoy that view right from the pool. They also have an indoor bar and seating area if you're not about getting into the pool.

The music mix playing that day was straight up comical (from James Brown to Bob Marley to Tobey Keith) but the Swampwater didn't have this music snob caring that much.

Also, I may or may not have engaged in a singalong of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" with a pool full of rednecks. Hey, when in Galveston, do as the locals do, right? I hear at night they have a regular DJ playing house music.

I had ridic fun. I am already planning on taking a friend visiting from NYC (for the lulz!).

This was my local spot 3-4 days a week for about  2 years. bartenders are awesome, drinks strong, the crowd can be hit or miss but for the most part good. 50cent beers on wednsdays! perfect beach view from the patio. I miss the pool table but the burrito's are worth it! wish i could take this bar with me everywhere

Been goin here for years!!  Love the place and the people.

Definite Gtown feel.  Laid back and relaxed.

They have food now...its all good.  Build your own burritoes and teh deep fried jalapeno slices are my usual.

Cheap drinks and a pool on the seawall.  Pool is about 2-3 feet deep.  Dont expect it to be overly clean..or the place to be high class.  Its for real folk.  Lots of lawn chairs for laying out, tables for eating, and swim up bar with stools.

Allllll sorts of people come here.

Most definitely NOT a smoothie bar...its for adults...to drink!   I always stop in here when im in town:)  Good frozen drinks and landshark on tap!

This bar is the kind of place where you show off the island's lackadaisical mentality. Wednesday nights are college nights, but the average age of patrons leans more towards high school. The food is disappointing to say the least. The bartenders are dismissive and will engage in conversation with old pals when there are more than 10 people waiting to order. I thought going there with a frequent customer would give me better service, but I was mistaken.

Went for a mid day snack and the food was alright.  Nothing spectacular.  The tacos were put together pretty weak, and since they were corn tortillas they definitely should have been double wrapped.

    BUT

Went back later for 50 cent beers.... YUCK what a trainwreck.  My mistake for even going, but the trashy crowd that was attracted by the cheap beers was truly a sight to behold.

Really bottom of the barrel crowd, but yeah, that's expected for 50 cent beers I suppose.

Indifferent/rude treatment from the bartender. Will not return. (The smoothie, however, was ok.)

Who doesn't love a bar on the beach? I've only been once since I live in Austin, but last time I visited home my sister brought me here. Cheap beer and a chill crowd. Nobody seemed to mind our loud, rowdy group of 15+ people. Sister comes here all the time and I can see why a 21 year old in Galveston would be a regular.

One star off for the shitty internet jukebox.

The Float is definately a bar and a pool and a smoothie place and a restaurant. Well, damn, how's that for variety.

This place is actually a cool concept. It's on the beach, yet there is a pool and bar stools all around. A few tvs inside to watch sporting events and CHEAP ASS BEER. 50 cent beers on wed nights are sure to bring out the college kids in droves. The margaritas are also out of this world. It takes forever to get drinks in this place though so you might wanna order two and just double fist so you don't get annoyed by waiting so long.

There are plenty of good looking girls around the float bar, but also beware of the strangelings that inhabit galveston as well. A little bit of everyone comes out in this place. However, its a fun place to get a lil rowdy with the boys if you need a guys night out on the cheap.

It's cool to catch some sun, a tan, and a margarita although after swimming in the pool, I had to stop and think about how many times some college kid has probably puked in that thing. Oh well, alcohol can be used to sterilize, right?

If you dislike your liver, the float is probably a good place to hang out because you can do some serious damage with minimal dents to your wallet.

I went out to Float for their .50 beers on a Wednsday I think, and it was definately an interesting scene. I liked the location of the bar a lot--it was right near the ocean, so they could open the windows and let in the nice sea breeze. It was also great that they had a pool on one half of the bar--very cool, very innovative, and although it was a little cold for people to be swimming when I was there, I heard stories from my friends, who are locals, about the pool being FULL of people on warmer nights. Which I could imagine could either be really fun or REALLY dangerous seeing as how drunk some of the people there got and how all of the crowd there, by the end of the night, could barely say a sentence without slurring something. If I were this bar, I'd make drunk swimmers sign waivers before taking a dip, but I didn't see any around so I guess the place hasn't had a fatality yet, which is good.

There is a jukebox in the corner by the bathrooms, and although the place is pretty small and gets pretty busy, there always seems to be enough room to slide through the throngs of humans to get over to it. Mostly, people play top 40 songs, which is pretty common anywhere in the midwest, and since this place doesn't have much artistic cred (it's a typical middle of America bar), it's really not expected to be playing much else.

The crowd here seemed to be mainly comprised of students on the island attending Texas A&M Galveston, which was to be expected since the .50 cent beers were a college promotion. But I have a feeling the place has that crowd regardless, and everyone there seemed to be young and a typical representation of the college crowd. The bartenders and staff were nice enough, if not at little overworked, and although they tried their best to serve everyone in a timely manner, I did end up waiting a fair amount of time before I got my drinks. It's ok though because the bartenders looked like college students too and probably hadn't been bartending for very long at at least still served me my beverages with a smile.

Apart from some drunk, high kid who puked all over everyone, I had a good time and enjoyed hanging out with some very drunk college kids at a nice bar by the beach. It's nothing special, nothing to write home about, but a nice enough place if you wanna stop by and have a few drinks with some roudy youngsters.

I have to say this was a fun, different little spot... Refreshing and fun... It is a breezy open windows bar with an outdoor patio area with a pool so you can swim and drink. Small pool the bar is not super big but big enough to have a full house on a wed. night when we went... Juke box music, full bar, we had a blast there! Next time we take bathing suits! LOL

The best word for Float is... Interesting. I mean the sign advertises a pool and smoothies. And I saw some children in there, but there is no question that it is definitely a bar. Smoking, Drinking & obscenely labeled drinks. Not children friendly by any means, but who am I to judge. That being said I had a blast here. The frozen margarita's were better than most even though they were not completely frozen yet, it just made them easier to slurp down. 1/2 of Float is an open air cabana sort of bar and the other 1/2 is a pool with one side attached to the bar. Very convenient. We were all amazed out how cool and breezy they kept this place. In the heat of the day in the middle of July and we were all very comfortable.
