Their specialty is their chicken fried steak and their fried okra, so if you are craving either of those, this is the place to come. There aren't a lot of healthy items on the menu... okay, probably none... but this is Southern comfort food... it's not supposed to be healthy.
They also do a really good breakfast, which is a good thing because, let's face it, there aren't a lot of choices in Ingleside for breakfast.
The restaurant itself is in serious need of a remodeling. They've done some work to it over the years and added the salad bar, but it really needs to be modernized. Where is Restaurant Impossible when you need them?
Service is adequate. They get the job done with a minimum of interaction, but it's all business.
This is strictly a lunch review. The food is good, a little heavy on the deep fried offerings. It's a really good price with large portions. If you ask for unsweetened tea, you're going to get sweetened, but this seems to be a general deal with Texas. They have a pretty good offering of pies made in-house, but i haven't tried them yet since my belly is pretty Well busted from lunch. Â I'd definitely recommend it over most of the offerings in this town.
Review Source:As an update, I just left Floyd's, having only stopped for a take out order because my grandmother is in town and likes their chicken fried steak. The waitress, Sarah, was unbelievably curt and rude with all association with us. Anything we asked seemed like we were bothering her, or we should have known. How was I supposed to know there was butter already in the bag? I also asked if the cook could keep my food separate from the others, since I have an allergy, and she was reluctant to even to ask and made it seem like asking the cook was a big ordeal. We were asked if we wanted her to figure in gratuity, and we said no, we wanted to do it ourselves. At first, we were confused because it's not customary to leave a tip when you're not getting served, but at the last minute we decided to leave a $10 tip anyway. When we went up to pay, she decided to tip herself on our credit card. The joke's on her, she only tipped herself 10% and lost out on three dollars because of her greed.
Update: After actually eating the food I had to report on it. I had the sirloin, and at first bite (and even the way it looked!) the meat was disgusting and old. My husband also tried it and had to spit it out. Cutting it open revealed a green layer of meat just below the surface! The meat was rotten and freezer burned! The rest of my family had chicken fried steak, and it was almost too tough to eat. The mashed potatoes were bland, and I was told the bread was pretty bad too. I will never give my business to this place again, and I recommend you don't either. You may get sick.
Why is a place called Floyd's Ranch House, labeled as Mexican? I mean, it has Mexican food... but it's called the Ranch House. And not just any ranch house... it's Floyd's. I don't know many Floyd Adames.
Anyways, the Ranch House is what it is. A pretty old school place to get some fattening food. But that's why we all like it. You don't go into a place like that and order a turkey sandwich. You order the chicken fried steak. Seriously, order it. You might have to scrape off a little gravy (unless you like that sorta thing), but it's usually really good. It almost always has a good batter to steak ratio and the batter is tasty and crunchy.
And I haven't been there in a while, but if I remember correctly, they have some killer pies. You can get a slice for dessert, or even take one home for later.
