    ********** UPDATE**********

    Sniff.  Sob.   Sigh..............

    Tough times economically.

So many folks out of work or having work hours reduced.

There are many Chinese buffets in this area so competition is tough in the best of economic times.

Foo Kee had a much bigger than average facility and the rent must have been high.

    Sadly, Foo Kee has closed.

My favorite Chinese food place is gone.

None of the other Chinese buffets have food good enough to attract me.

    Oh well. Life goes on.

Maybe the other reviewers caught Foo Kee on a bad day.  I enjoyed my meal but i did NOT try everything. Maybe I was just lucky with my visit.

There was egg foo young available and that is very rare in Springfield; even at non-buffet Chinese places. And it was tasty!

I liked that the chairs and booths are padded for comfort.

If the place is crowded I leave the booths for other since I always eat solo and read my newspaper while eating.

The tables are big enough for my plate and the spread-out newspaper and that is handy.

I forget the price but if it was too high I would not have ate there. I always check the cost before eating.

    Buffet only; no menu.

The sweet/sour soup was better than average.

I didn't use the Mongolian grill part, I typically stick to what is in the scoop-out-of-the-bin buffet part and there is a more than average selection.

I noted that beef dishes were rather sparse with chicken-based goodies more prevalent but that is fine with me.

Being the curious sort I was at the buffet when what i thought the cook appeared and dumped some fresh vittles into a bin.

Yep, a real China cook, a Han Chinese guy. He struggled with English but that's okay; I don't know ANY Chinese except perhaps Moo Goo Gai pan.

Is that a cuss word in Chinese?!!!

Lots of offerings with another stand-out... the baked salmon with no breading to add calories.

    It taste yummylicious to me.

Desert bar was, in my bloated opinion, kinda' scant but I always eat so much "real" food there's not enough room for desert anyway.

Basically, the best Chinese buffet I've ate at in awhile and I have tried several.

Moved from Ozark, MO (15 or so miles away) where a comparable buffet kept me eating Chinese food (different buffet, owner, name, etc.) It was really good, also, but with gas so expensive looks like Foo Kee is my default Chinese buffet.

I was a little hesitant to go here... odd name and hardly ever any cars in the parking lot.  I should have paid attention to the signs... signs... everywhere the signs.

$12 for the buffet and the drink.  The guy at the cashier was really friendly, we talked about the day and the weather... as I walked away he said he "hoped" I enjoyed it.  Sign #3.  He maybe should have prayed I enjoyed it... I'm praying I live through the weekend.

Foo Kee offers an "international bar" (questionable) sushi bar (3 selections... don't do it), mongolian bar (pretty sure the items had been out for the better part of a week), salad bar (1/2 of the items weren't recognizable) and the Chinese bar (we'll talk about this later...)

The Chinese selections, about 80% of them looked like they can't be safely consumed.  The ones which looked semi-edible turned out not to be.  I'm not sure if the added flavor was e.coli or botulism, but it didn't mesh well with terrible sauces, questionable meats, and God... I don't know... whatever half that crap was they serve as food.

Bottom line... the only thing good is the service, they were really friendly (maybe trying to be kind to people who may be experiencing their last days on Earth?).  If I die after writing this... someone please call the health inspector.

I've never given a 1-star before... until now.

    Never.  Friggin'.  Again.

My friend, 2 daughters and I ate here a month or so after it opened. I always thought Jade Dystany was awful and didn't have much hope for Foo Kee and wasn't disappointed. The decor is the same and the food is the same (it maybe left over from JD). They have such big buffets but not much to offer. My friend even found steel wire from a scrubby in his fried chicken for the cashew/sweet n sour! It was cooked in with the breading. We showed the manager and they gave him his money back, no questions. The dishes are left out for so long and get all dried up, the soup is not very hot and the raw meat for the grill looks quite warm, I wouldn't let my girls try it. I don't know why they even offer a salad bar, no one eats it and it shows; wilted dry lettuce and skimmed over salad dressings. The only thing I can say good about this place is the soda was nice and cold. Don't waste your money here.
