It takes a lot to impress me when it comes to food...I am a self-proclaimed food snob, and nothing makes me more irritated than when I pay money for something I could have cooked better at home. Â
Enter the Gourmet Lunchbox. Holy moly. They are only open from 11ish-2:30, and there is hardly ever an empty seat in the house. Could be because you'd be hard pressed to spend over $10 for lunch, or because the food is amazing. Â Everything is homemade and homegrown--one of the chefs grows half the ingredients on the menu at his farm.
I usually get the $6.95 all-you-can-eat soup and salad, and it's a winner. Â All the food is fresh, the salad dressings are homemade, and the soup...oh, the soup. Â There are three crockpots on the counter, and you get to try all three (or just eat mass quantities of the lobster bisque like I do). Â There are always a few types of fresh bread sliced up too, so you HAVE to grab a container of their homemade whiskey butter-it's got cinnamon and locally made booze, and it's absolutely amazing.
If you 'like' them on facebook, you can see what soups they are featuring for the day, and they will give you a heads up when they are serving ribs or other specials.
The food is great, the employees are friendly, and it's a great casual atmosphere...decorated with old school lunchboxes and some great Pandora radio choices. Â I highly recommend it!
