I had the meatloaf twice!!! I love the atmosphere and the staff always sneaks me the homemade fudge when the wife's not looking. You won't regret coming here.

cute little country store with lots of sweet options, but the food is meh !! and i mean .. meh !! cornbread was very dry, fried chicken was unseasoned and barely fried. i hate to say it but i would much rather get a bucket from kfc...the dessert is pretty good with the homemade ice cream. friendly staff.... i might be back for the dessert but that's about it... maybe i didn't order the right dish as everyone else seem to rave about this place...but as far as first impression is concerned... meh... there are better places around this area for food

I ate the grilled chicken and it was amazing totally worth the drive! I would greatly recommend anyone to eat here. The staff was so nice and it was over all a great environment! Easy 5 stars

Great "back of the general store" country restaurant.  We had the boneless fried chicken, roast beef manhattan and smoked sausage sandwich.  Everything was great.  The fried green beans side dish was suprisingly wonderful.  Excellent breading.  Also, our first time with Cheerwine soda.  A good local change of pace.  Desserts and icecream were excellent as well.

Happened upon The Fresh House thanks to yelp while driving from Uwharrie after a long mtn bike ride So was in need of a good refueling meal. TFH did not disappoint. This place is what I want Cracker Barrel to be (I hate CB). We shared the meatloaf and a vegetable plate all of which was seasoned nicely and presented with simplicity. The stuffed cabbage and pimiento cheese mac and cheese were the standouts for me...until we went for the homemade ice cream. If you find yourself traveling between Albemarle and Charlotte, you should stop in for great comfort food served by a super friendly staff.

While the countrified (maybe even "country-fried") restaurant theme is my least favorite (think Cracker Barrel)...this place pulls it off with a mean combination of real, good, home-style food and service that makes you feel like a regular, even if you aren't one.  No one is putting on airs.  They don't have to.  Good food.  Good people.  And some really yummy treats to take home with you when you've stuffed yourself on the french-dip sandwich.  Again.

The Service gets an EASY FIVE yelp Stars! !  !  From the ladies that greeted me at the door and told me everything I needed to know and everything I wanted to know (since it was my first time and walking in, was not sure it  was a Restaurant too)!  They have a Pastry/ Fudge Case and they told me I could have any of the baked goods brought to my table if I wanted.  Don't you love being in a place where it seems all the workers are Happy to be there!?!  Nice environment!  The Servers are an Efficient TEAM!  Though I had my main Server, all helped each other and all helped with my table.  Impressive Service for ANY Restaurant at ANY price level! !  !

The Decor is Country!  What should I expect going in a place like this (as some of my musician friends say describing their music "it isn't Country" - OK why do you describe it using the word "Country"!  Yes this IS Country, and that does not bother me!

The Food... Here is the Breakdown with yelp star Ratings:  BBQ, better than some, 3.45 stars.  Whole Wheat Bun, BEST Whole Wheat Bun and a Very Good Bun for any kind of Bread!  Tasted freshly Baked! 5 stars.  BBQ Sauce was A -OK or better 3.4 stars.  "Red" Slaw (this is the kind without Mayo, YAY!  They also have "White Slaw" with Mayo - Smart to have both)  "Red Slaw" good, though not as good as many that I have had 3.9 stars.  Onion Rings - FRESH not frozen, thick cut, ah no, think Super THICK cut with a heavy, low on corn meal, Yay! nice flavor, perfectly cooked and not very greasy.  Good, though not my preference for Onion Rings, even so good enough for 3.5 stars.  The Homemade Ice Cream tasted Homemade for Sure!  Smarts run high in Locust, before I ordered a huge bowl, my server brought me a sample (SMART)!  It did taste Homemade and that is not my style of Ice Cream (not rated because it is not my preference and they were SMART enough to give me a sample taste).  Now for dessert - the Cream Horn was not good at all!  The Horn tasted a little old (maybe more than a little and not just old but off too) and the cream was too lite (not heavy, nor creamy, unsubstantial) so what!  Next time I'll get a Cookie or Fudge!

The Store which houses the Bakery and Restaurant has Candy and Ginger ale.  I got a bag of Green Apple and a bag of Sassafras, the Green Apple gets an Easy Five stars and the sassafras was uh and the Blenheim Ginger ale comes in "Spice", "Regular" and "Diet". I got the regular and it was very good, probably the most unique Ginger ale I have ever tasted.  If I return I will get a Four Pack or 6 pack and get one of the "Spicey" ones, though I bet the regular will be my preference.

This is a nice place with lots of character.  You are surrounded by all types of signs, toys, and etc.  The food is good and service us above average.  I don't go often because they stay crowded, a sure sign of good food.  You know me, I don;t like lines!  AS good as the food is, the character of your surroundings give you plenty to converse about if you are not a good conversation starter.  Enjoy!

The Fresh House is a country throwback original.
The food is prepared fresh with real ingredients, not freeze-dried or frozen and it shows. 'Country Vittles' at it's best!!

Think of a place like the Cracker Barrel combined with an authentic country kitchen style restaurant, and you get the idea. There are spices and flour and mixes from the 'Old Mill' that is owned by the family that runs the Fresh House. Lots of things to look at, and if you like it, buy it (like toys and country kitsch like signs and license plates).

Unlike anything you have had at a chain restaurant, this place has homemade ice cream that is made by a hit and miss John Deere powered ice cream maker out front in the warm months.

Waitstaff are friendly and the service is excellent.

Sunday brunch is always amazing, especially the fried chicken. Dave the owner always makes sure everyone is enjoying their meal. Homemade ice cream is the best! They churn it with an old john Deere engine out front and have several flavors daily. Make sure you pick up some goodies from the bakery.
