Stopped is for a quick lunch on a Friday.  Had a wonderful ham & swiss Panini coupled with their famous pickled green tomatoes, an had a delicious, flavorful tomato & white bean soup for a starter.   The place is really cute and stocked with homemade goodies.  Was looking for one of their pies others rave about but no luck.  Should have stocked up on their jams but figured we'd be back on our next trip to SW Michigan, but still kicked myself on the drive home for not doing so!  Very friendly staff, even overhead one of the gals offering water for a customer's dog outside.  They have small café tables inside and out, though the chairs weren't exactly comfy.

This is for the pie only: best mixed berry pie I have ever had. Incredible crust, outstanding filling.

    Great Jellies, Jams, Sauces.

We have been visiting Froehlich's for about 6 years now.  We mostly get food to go because the tables are really wedged in and it is uncomfortable to have people milling around you while you are eating.  That said, they have wonderful home-made food.  I love the 3 tomato sauce that they have.  The jams and jellies are also fabulous.  We often get food to go (quiche, deviled eggs, soup, wraps) and have never been disappointed.  The people who work here are always friendly and helpful.  They put together wonderful gift baskets too.

If you are in the area, you have to come here.  I love their mufalata (sp?) sandwich on sourdough bread.  It has their homemade olive relish that I crave when I'm home.  I buy jars of it and it'll last for awhile.  Their egg salad sandwich is also good.  They make soups and breads and sauces and you can buy just about any of that in their store.  Try their dark chocolate covered espresso beans...yummy.

Great Staff and the best chocolate croissant in the US! And I get around. For lunch I like the Mediterranean tuna melt on whole grain roll.

Mmm yummy! Three Oak's hidden but not-so-hidden gem.

My mom had heard of this place, mainly because of the antiquing she had done in Three Oaks. The store is quaint and charming, with some nice outdoor seating.

There were a few select items on the menu like a chicken curry wrap and gazpacho (both of these items I had seen at another delis in New Buff), and your classic deli sandwiches like tuna and egg salad, and a tofu sandwich option as well. The chicken curry wrap was huge and one of the best I've had, ever. No skimping on the sauce or the chicken!

A little storefront that sells tons of jams, salsa, and homemade pasta salads, you should go out of your way to meander around N. Elm street to at least stop in and grab a bite.

Note: The small orange juice was almost $4! Yikes!

Beautiful pastries, quiches, gifts, novelties, cheese cherry danish things, and croissants, mmmmm :D Buy a pie or a whole coffee cake, or an egg sandwich.  Delish every time.  Every time.

It's absolutely the best in it's class for a bakery deli. Fresh fresh fresh!
    Exudes country charm.
Almost everything offered there is homemade from scratch (Even the perfect multigrain sub sandwich rolls) and maybe even grown by them.

They are nice and friendly and will bend over backwards to accommodate any special requests. The seating area is small so you may wait to be seated, or just carry it out and eat on a park bench, it's Three Oaks, MI after all.

If you are having a party, this is the place for a tray of food that will wow your guests. if you want a sandwich and a bowl of soup this is your ticket too, and throw in a deviled egg just like your grandma used to make.

On the plus side, the food here is great - interesting salads, a range of sandwiches, and a ton of various canned and pickled goods.  It's cute, and there are lots of knickknacks, kitchen stuff and gourmet groceries for sale.  On the down side, the place just gets wayyyyy too busy on weekends to even try to go at lunchtime.  (They re-did the interior a couple years back, and while they made lots of great new kitchen and baking space, the customer service and eating area stayed tiny.)  You can feel suffocated at lunchtime if you're standing in the long line that wraps around the space and around the diners at the handful of tables.  It seems like it takes forever just to have a sandwich made.  If they doubled the service area and hired more workers, I'd give it five stars.

In Froehlich's, everthing's made the old fashioned way. The bread, deviled eggs and pies get five stars- the peasant bread is out-of-this-world, if you can get Colleen to make in the the 'round instead of the loaf. This bakery is in Three Oaks, Mi, a small town- the service is leisurely and so is the cooking. You wouldn't want it any other way! Don't miss it.

Not impressed with this hodge podge lodge of a store. Try getting some help that actually knows what they are doing. Customer service sucks. We tell them we want one of the sweets and a cappuccino, they say "these are traditional Italian cappuccinos, two shots of espresso and then a layer of foam." (I spent 12 summers in the Tuscany region and that is not a proper cappuccino.) But I say fine. She says, "so you just want a cappuccino?" No I want one of the sweets and a cappuccino. We leave and discover the cappuccino had zero foam, so basically $3.50 for an undersized double shot of espresso. And the sweet wasn't very good either. It tasted old and stale. I wouldn't recommend this place and won't be back. Pretentious overpriced crap in the middle of a podunk town with a bunch of weekender FIPS running around. The only upside was the clean bathroom. If you're looking for a clean place to do your business, this is it. (Hence the two stars.)

I've been trying to get to some out-of-the-way places, so Michigan sounded like a good idea. On a beautiful, sunny, spring day, my friend and I literally stumbled upon Froelich's after a long walk on the beach and  snooping around for antiques. It's a quaint and inviting little gourmet shop/grocery/deli  on the main drag in Three Oaks.

There are a couple of tables outside, and a few more in the front of the white-washed, high-ceiling, sunshine-filled space, whose shelves are chocked full of canned veggies and dips and sauces, all made from their own organic farm ingredients. A dairy case in the middle displays  a variety of sandwiches and salads, wraps. quiches, full-size deviled eggs, and and other tasty baked goods. We both chose the tuna salad sandwich which was not your ordinary tuna salad. Real (not canned) tuna fish, a little olive oil (no mayo) and veggies and capers and peppers. A true Mediterranean or Nicoise style. I would have liked some black olives in there in retrospect, and with the helpful staff, I'm sure they would have obliged me.

They sell organic eggs there for $3.00 per dozen, and the nice lady at the counter had lot's of good free ovo-related advice: how best to remove those pesky shells (use eggs at least two weeks old) and storage (if they haven't been refrigerated, like their organic ones, they can be stored at room temperature.) I did not know that! And she told us stories about her grandmother, too. It's just that kind of place. Check it out for lunch when your wandering around Michigan's Harbor Country. It's delicious and quaint. Aunt Bee is hiding there in the woodwork.

(And don't tell on me, but when no-one was looking, I squeezed a macaroon. Very soft!)

The ONLY downside is that it's closed from Jan 1 to April.  We were lucky to catch them open for the Valentine's weekend as Colleen loves to cook the fun cookies, candies, cakes that go along with it.

The sandwiches are amazing, the coffee is outstanding and the other "stuff" is always interesting.  Let's just say that my 6 and 9 year olds pretty much touch all of the goods.

Only 4 other reviews for Froehlichs thus far.  The best thing about such few reviews is its somewhat secret allure.

Once you wander into Colleen Froehlichs wondrous store/kitchen/deli you won't want to leave.  She stocks the place from floor to ceiling with everything from kitchen supplies to birdhouses, and filled the middle with the most amazing flavors of home made jams and preserves (seedless raspberry is a technological masterpiece).

Did I mention this is a deli slash sandwich shop slash bakery slash more home made wonders in this little store than you can possibly eat in one visit.  Everything is fresh, the breads, salads, sandwiches and soups.  Many of the vegetables are grown in her garden.  Then the place is stocked with home made and home canned pickles, pasta sauce, and more.  The only problem I dare remark about Froehlichs, everything is so darn good that you have to come back again, and again, and again....

Froelich's is a little gourmet shop that I happened to stumble into while shopping on the main drag of Three Oaks. Their shelves are stocked with homemade relishes, bread and butter pickles, jams, a fridge containing jars of sun tea and lemonade, and a case with macaroni and fruit salads etc. Other gourmet groceries included things like smoked oysters and organic stocks, which are probably hard to come by in a small town.

This place also houses a bakery; I picked up some oatmeal chocolate chunk w/ pecan cookies which manage to be chewy yet crisp and are not overly sweet, just have a caramelly note (one would think from brown sugar, but it's not on the ingredient label).

There are some homey gifty items, and also a couple of tables where you can eat their soups, salads and sandwiches.

Overall, seems like a nice local spot and a gourmet fix for those without ready access to a Whole Foods.

The only game in town:  fresh bread, good deli items and kichen and hostess gifts.  I have enjoyed the sandwiches I have ordered here.  Service can be slow, and outside seating is limited in the summer, but all in all, it is a great spot offering what us city girls are used to.

Almost forgot, they make several types of soups and sauces to go.  I have not tried them yet, but will update when I am in their neck of the woods again.

This place has been in 3oaks for a few good years now. and it doesn't seem to be going away which is GREAT. they have even been on Food network before. I love this place, fresh bread, great items that you can't find any where else in town. Great herbs and fresh yummy desserts that are to die for.

Actually, I only went in for a quick lunch and have to say that is a nice place.  The place is more of what I think my Mom would like with the decorative but utterly uncomfortable tables and chairs and the knicknacks all over the place.

The part that really bummed me out was that when ordering sandwiches, there weren't any prices.  An order of a smoked turkey sandwich, an egg salad sandwich and 2 iced teas set me back $19.73.  The sandwiches were good and were on whole wheat bread but, I mean really.  It's a little stinkin' pricey for what you get.  If you're looking for overpriced sandwiches that I'd rate a solid 8 out of a 10 and a kitschy Mayberry atmosphere, well hell, c'mon on over.

To be fair, their deli looked like they had some really nice food.  I just don't like ordering food when there isn't a price next to it and only finding out what it cost after I ordered it.  I felt it wasn't on the up and up.  I have lived in several expensive cities and expect that when the real estate warrants higher prices.  Here I felt taken advantage of.

Have you ever had peach cream pie?

Yeah, me neither. Until Froehlich's came along.

This place is unbelieveable and it's right at home in kitschly little Three Oaks Michigan! Come to just pick up a loaf of their fresh, homemade bread in a variety of selections, like honey sunflower, cracked corn, or my favorite---cinnamon! Or, if you have a few minutes to linger and pick up the local flavor, stay for lunch in the cute cafe that has a seasonal menu that changes daily.

Then, if you have room. Take home the peach cream pie at the height of Michigan peach season. It's smooth, custardy, bold with hones of cinnamon and spices and it has a crunchy streusel topping that will not disappoint you.

THE place to go in Three Oaks if you want to see Joan Cusack at lunch.  Even if you're not a Joan fan, surely you'll find something at Froehlich's you'll enjoy.  They bake their own delicious artisan breads, focaccia, scones and desserts.  They make fantastic soups and creative deli salads.  They sell homemade jams (the strawberry rhubarb is VERY hard to pass up) and snacks and offer a nice list of sandwiches and wraps to settle your hungry tummy.  My last visit (the Joan Cusack visit) yielded an enormous Asian chicken salad wrap that lasted two meals and a spicy salami sandwich for Justin.  Prices aren't dirt cheap, but Froehlich's uses premium ingredients and makes things well--and if Joan Cusack and other Chicago transplants are their customers, I guess the price is fine.  The storefront is full of good cooking supplies (interesting pastas, sauces, olive oils and seasonings), tools and serving pieces.  And I do mean FULL--the space is a bit cramped.  But it's a great place to enjoy a sandwich and play I-Spy.  You might just spy a celebrity.
