Where do I start. It is hard for me to be critical of someone's business and livelihood, but this has to be an exception.
The problem started right up front. We arrived in good spirits after a day of beautiful weather and were not surprised when they said there was a twenty minute wait. Unfortunately, the wait turned in to more than an hour, because in there words, Â "people just weren't leaving." It wasn't until we sat down that we began to see the real issue. Our server was nice, took our drink order, and then disappeared. After about a half hour, she came back and refilled our drinks, saying our food should be up any minut. After a full hour (we had now been at the restaurant for two hours) we still hadn't gotten our food, finally we were told that they only had two cooks, but even so, they didn't know why it was taking so long. The manager came over and offered a free dessert, but we just wanted to eat and be on our way. After more than two hours, our food finally came, and IT WAS WRONG. My wife had ordered a simple chicken inchelada, and they brought beef. When we pointed out that it was wrong, they didn't even offer to replace it, supposedly because they only had the two cooks, so my wife literally did not eat her food. My daughter took a peace of chicken out of her burrito and gave it to my wife, and my wife immediately said it was so nasty SHE COULDN'T SWALLOW IT. After waiting all this time, not being brought the right food, and having the food brought not edible we were offered a 20% discount on a bill for incorrect, in edible food.
To top it off, my daughter woke up in the middle of the night THROWING UP. Wow, wonder where that problem could have come from?
Avoid this place at all costs!
Fuego's food & service are always great... Â I have eaten there regularly at least once or twice a week. Â Mexican food in the Atlanta & North Ga area doesn't get any better than Fuego mexican grill. Â The entire staff is very friendly & very accomading for us always no matter how small or large our party. Â The beer selection & tequila selection is great as well..I would recommend the fajitas or carne asada, as these are my favorites...This is definitely a place i will continue to be a repeat customer...
Review Source:Stopped by with a moderate sized group of dirty hikers one Sunday evening after hiking in nearby woods. We were all hungry and glad to see someplace open for business nearby.
We got a booth large enough for all seven of us to sit comfortably almost immediately. Chips and salsa was served quickly. The salsa wasn't the best but I'd have to say it was above average and we had got refills on both the chips and salsa so I think everyone liked them.
The meals were all about average in price for this cuisine. I went for an old favorite, chicken chimichanga with rice and beans. It came out on a nice plate triangular white plate that was piping hot... according to my waitress at least.
The meal was really good. Chimichanga was about the perfect size and covered in what seemed to be a light queso blanco sauce and served with lettuce, pico de gallo and sour cream. The rice was cooked very nicely. Not sticky and clumpy and a nice pleasant taste. The beans were surprisingly zesty. Was expecting the normal bland refried beans often served with traditional Mexican cuisine but these actually had some flavor. Needless to say after this description, I cleaned the plate.
Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals too... or at least once they arrived. That is one of the downsides to our meal. Meals came out one or two at a time with one being held up longer than everyone else which was a bit disappointing. Understandably we were there on a Sunday evening and it did look like they didn't have a lot of staff but I would have expected the meals to arrive a little closer together so we didn't feel bad for eating in front of those without.
The waitress was young and seemed nice at first. She kept up the refills on our drinks without asking but seemed to get a bit irritated when asked for hot sauce and more chips. She could loose a little attitude I suppose considering the tip she was to be getting but all in all it was minor and we all just made a joke of it.
So, next time we are in the area for a hike, we all decided we would definitely come back for another dinner afterwards because of the good food and large tables and booths that was perfect for a group.
I really hate to give this place a two star rating, especially since it used to be a nice place to go for dinner. I am not sure what has happened in the last six months to a year, but things have gone down hill. I have eaten here many times in the past two years with mostly good experiences. The last two times and especially this last time, two days ago, was very bad. First, the table we were sat at smelled somewhat like a dirty dish rag. Second, the food was just not as flavorful as before. My wife had the chicken fajita, I had the super combo, My daughter had the number 10. My wife said hers was not hot and somewhat flavorless. My daughter said hers was also weird tasting. Mine was OK but so so as far as flavor goes. Definitely not what is used to be. We did wait what I would consider longer for the meals to be served. It seemed as though the kitchen was not running as smoothly as before. The wait staff was polite, they kept us in plenty of chips and salsa while we waited, so that was fine. Someone needs to look into the way they were preparing food as to how they are now. I do hope this place makes a rebound and freshens up the cleaning process so there is no oder on the tables.
Review Source:Fuego gets four starts from me for a couple of reasons. My standard favorite at a Mexican restaurant is the fajita salad with steak. There salad was awesome. Usually they don't come with so many veggies- this one was overflowing with veggies, particularly red peppers. The shell was the best I've had and absolutely melted in my mouth. Buttery and crispy and even my husband said he should have ordered the same thing.
The salsa was also quite delicious. It has cilantro- my husband it allergic so we always have to ask about that. They accommodated his allergy easily with his dish-as cilantro is only in their pico and salsa- I don't think it is in their guac.
The ambiance was kind of cool. Great service. We were in a hurry and they did not know that, but we received our food, and check and we were out the door in about 40 minutes.
Excited to try the other things on the menu.
While thoroughly enjoying this restaurant several times during the winter of 2009-10, my husband and I returned this January 2012 and it was a DISASTER!  What happened?  Apart from the screaming infant seated next to us who was subsequently  breastfed, and the booth across from us with four wriggling, running all over the place children who ordered no food while dining with their father,we finally asked to be transferred to a vacant booth.  We had to transport our dishes and food ourselves .  We then competed with a neighboring table full of the waitress' friends for any kind of service.  What we expected to be a pleasant evening (a slow week night) was so annoying we asked for doggie bags in order to finish eating at home. Styrofoam take out trays were literally thrown on our table.
The food was good, but the Margaritas were nothing more than shaved ice. Â I also like, if the tables are bare wood, paper placemets and decent quality paper napkins. Â The bare tables seemed grubby and not very clean and the napkins were the cheapest quality. Â Napkins are important if you are eating dipping food like salsa and guacamole or fajitas. Upon leaving, no one said "thank you" or " we hoped you enjoyed your meal" as is commonplace in this area, or anywhere really!
I love Mexican food and Fuego does have good dishes, but until I hear there is a change of management, I do not wish to return.

Not offered chips and salsa. Messed up 50% of the table's order. Didn't bring plates or tortillas with fajitas order and had to ask for it after 5 minutes. Charged for more tortillas without notice. Fajitas were heavy on the onions and peppers and light on the meat. Bartender had trouble multi-tasking.
Beer price was great. Food taste was good. Hostess was exceptionally nice. Cook time was short and an unexpected delight.
Having lived in Minnesota for a few years before returning to north Georgia, I can tell you what BAD Mexican food is. This is not even close. I'd read some less favorable reviews of Fuego before deciding to give it a try, and in doing so, I found it to be not only better than expected but actually quite good. The salsa was excellent, and the chips were not at all stale... But it gets better than that, I promise. I had the Veggie Burrito, which came with a side of cheese nachos. It sort of sounds boring, but this was a truly tasty entree, and it was one of the least heavy-feeling meals I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. I was actually scraping my plate for more of the nacho flavors when I'd otherwise finished my meal. Not really the absolute best Mexican food ever, but definitely very good. From my experience, it also seemed quite reasonably priced. I'd definitely go back anytime without giving it a second thought.
Review Source:Wanted to let everyone know to be cautious when ordering the new Sinless Margaritas they are now promoting, these will run you $18.95 per HALF pitcher and they tell you this nowhere. It seems as if the residents of Big Canoe are once again being taken advantage of on the smaller portions of food, higher prices and VERY expensive drinks.......Cheese Dip, One Order Beef Fajitas, HALF pitcher Sinless Margaritas was over $40!!
It will be a while before I go back as I think we are all getting ripped off!
Fuego is set in a small shopping center right outside of Big Canoe and has a real nice interior and small exterior dining area. The place seems popular with the locals, but there are only two restaurants in the surrounding area. The food is OK but could be better, especially if they improved the quality of service.
Fajitas are consistently decent.
Chimichangas are poor, don't waste your time.
Carnitas were very nice, fresh onion and cilantro salsa, served with flour tortillas. Probably one of the more authentic items on the menu.
Salsa is very good, but chips were stale.
Service quality has dropped and the last time we were there the place was swarming with flies. I mentioned it to the waiter on the way out of the place and he just gave me a blank look.
Me: Hey, you guys seem to have a fly problem today. You may want to do something about it.
Him: ?
Me: Flies in the restaurant buddy...not something that makes meals memorable in a good way.
Him: Ok
Food is good, but only for the area. If you're craving mexican, go for it...but Appalachia down the street offers much better dining overall.
