I pass through Vandalia on average a couple of times a year.   On a recent visit I decided to look for a place to get a drink.   I located several bars in town, cased out each one, and eventually settled on Full Moon as the place I'd hang out at that night.    I'm glad I did!

Full Moon is awesome!  It's the perfect small town dive bar.   The people are real, and they are friendly.   The bartender was great.    I enjoyed the fish tank behind the bar -- something about watching fish while drinking is very, very calming.  :)

There's a pool table towards the back and a juke box for music.   I didn't try any of the food so I can't really comment on that.   Maybe next time, because I'll be back for sure!

    One word: ohmygoshthisplaceisfreakingfabulous.

On a roadtrip, we pulled into Vandalia and asked some guys at a construction site where the best food was.  We were given super detailed instructions to the Full Moon, and emphatically assured that it was the best place for beer and food in town.
Fred was amazing.  Not only did he fire up the grill for us sad, hungry out-of-towners, but he totally delivered on serving us the "best burgers you've had in a while." Yes Fred, yes they were.

Tasty beer, awesome service, prices which can't be beat, and delicious food.  If anyone is ever in a 50 mile radius, its worth the stop, I swear.

The Moon ismy favorite bar when visiting Vandalia. The bartender chick is super nice, and the owner is pretty cool. I love the hockey stuff he has decorating the bar, even if it is all St. Louis Blues stuff. But again, the owner is a pretty cool guy. They also offer a diverse selection on the jukebox, which alot of bars in the area don't. Now its nice to know that I can hear "Fishing in the dark", "Who let the dogs out", and "Daughter" all at the same place instead of the best of Whitesnake and GnR like most bars in the area. Its one of the few bars that provides friendly faces to the goth, gay, and diverse crowds in the area...which isjust one of the reasons why Ilike this place.

I love "the Moon" (as us locals call it). It is a little divey in that "we've been open for years and seen a lot of stuff", homey kind of way and I don't mind at all. The beer is cold and thats all I need sometimes. Try the "Funkies" aka Funky Cold Medina). They are SO fantastically yummy. They are the Moon's signature treat. If you want some delicious bar food you need to call ahead and make sure Fred is firing up the grill that day. I recommend the mushrooms, cheese burger and a white sausage pizza.  By far my FAVORITE place to sit for hours on a saturday night laughing with my friends, pumping ones in the juke box, and seeing people that make me feel at home. Fred is a little set in his ways but that can come in handy when keeping out the riffraff. Tell him I said hi.

UPDATE! They have added a very nice little patio area outside!
