yelp reviews led us the short walk from our suite. we had great expectations, but  wines on the menu were not available, which did not go well with me and my mate.

the owner is sharp, friendly and a whirlwind of energy,  but the magnificent view of the ocean is to your back when you are tasting and talking wine.

a wine bar with a view of the ocean!

i'm the designated decoy. drinking wine is not for me. i would have liked a refreshment, but was offered none.  the great gal behind the bar assisted my excellent wife and the other guests very well.

my excellent wife bought a bottle of haka chardonnay, which she said is "pretty good".

hours are 4pm to 10pm, which is unusual, but when checking out of any hotel at the noon hour,  you cant t  obtain a case to take home...

This place is an awesome spot to grab a glass of wine or beer when visiting the Central Coast.  Full Moon Wine Bar is located in the heart of downtown Cayucos, a stones throw away from the sandy beaches.  The owners are always warm and willing to find you the perfect wine to match the perfect view.  Enjoy!

If you don't have the time to go wine tasting in Paso Wine Country, the $10 tasting of 5 wines is a great deal and helps hone the pallet. You'll like at least 2 of the 5 wines and the cheese plates are ok. Staff is amazingly educated.

A great jump off before heading to Hoppe's or Cass House.

Last December my husband and I took our first trip to Cayucos and accidentally discovered the Full Moon Wine Bar and Bistro and the terrific women who run it. We had a wonderful time -- great wines, terrific conversations, yummy antipasto plates, sumptuous soups. We  felt very welcomed in a town where it might be easy for locals to dislike tourists (I grew up in such a town). But at the Full Moon, we made friends with and laughed with locals; our Full Moon experience was so positive that we returned to Cayucos for a week of vacation in Oct. Jeanette and Mika are very knowledgeable of wines and help you pick something that's just right.  It's a fun, welcoming place to be-- don't miss it for anything.

Outstanding little wine bar in quaint California beach town. Try the Red Zeppelin. If you are lucky, the winemaker will also be there.

How could I not have reviewed my favorite wine bar outside of the 5 Cities?

Beautiful view, when I come in to the bar, and I will tell you to drive from Nipomo to Cayucos, it has to be for this reason, and this reason only - it's comfortable.  It's like being welcome into a private club where all are welcome.

The gals running it are everyone's friend and will find you something you like and may even find you something that you love.

Go here for a nip before Hoppe's and watch the sunset or for a sip before you walk to your vacation rental. It's one of my favs and will be yours too.

Very cute wine bar.  They have a great selection of wine/champagne and also yummy champagne cocktails! My partner had a Mojito type one that she loved.  Stop in and see the ladies here it's great!

Full Moon is a required stop on any trip along the coast. Kickass people, wonderful view, and great wine won over this pair of seasoned travelers from DC during our trip down the 1. Jeanette and Mika's regional wine expertise is matched by their acute sense for how to do one's community good while doing business well. The tasting line up was the best wine flight I've ever had, period.

My husband and I love the wine bar! The Moon Ladies are fantastic! The wines poured are always great!
The best part is a variety of wine and one stop tasting!
    This wine bar rocks!

Romantic getaway to Cayucos for the weekend and stopped in this fine establishment for a wine tasting! We had a tapas plate as well with homemade edamame hummus which was very delicious! The help was lovely and very friendly. Knowledgable on all the wines, complete with stories and perfect pairings. I'd go back to this place - but they do need to work on their lighting inside, it was a little dark!

Found the Full Moon Wine Bar, coincidentally the night before a full moon, on Yelp and stopped in for a drink this afternoon at 4 when they opened.  The ladies who run it were so knowledgeable, and since it wasn't that crowded we actually got to sit and chat with them abuot Cayucos, and the wines, and the local flavor.  It was really nice and we're so happy we stopped.  Very relaxing, and we got to try and buy some wines we would otherwise never have known about.  Good luck ladies!

My friend and I visited Full Moon while on a short vacation to Cayucos. We were so glad we stopped in!!  The atmosphere was great.  The 2 girls that own it are both very friendly and very helpful. I'm new to wine tasting and they were great about explaining the different wines. It was a very relaxed place, so I felt instantly comfortable when I walked in. Let me also give a shout out to the fantastic cheese platter!

Bottome Line: Good wine, good food, great company... and as a bonus, we even caught a great a sunset from there!  They have a great view from their location. I would definitely recommend Full Moon Wine Bar & Bistro!

I bought one of those 50% off deals that included a wine tasting for 2, 2 food items and a bottle of wine. Thought I'd try it out with my girlfriend.

When we walked in, we were immediately greeted with a warm smile from one of the owners. We sat at the bar and got to pick our wine flights. I went with all red and my girlfriend went with all white.

I've read that the owners reall know their wine, and they weren't kidding! We got 5 tastings each including the initial palette cleansing sparkling wine. We loved all our wines! After a few tastes, we ordered some food. I got a meat plate with cheese and my gf got a cheese plate with salami (hey, we like our meat+cheese plates!). Once again, super happy with our selection. I don't know what type of cheese we ate, but i loved them all! It paired great with our wines.

The 2 owners were super friendly and made us feel welcome. I decided on which bottle I wanted as part of the package deal, and bought another one as well. Both of which were carefully gift wrapped.

The location is great, its right by the water! We'd definitely come back with some friends if we're driving through the area. The only thing that sucks is that it's so far away from SLO.

If you are driving through or in the area, I'd definitely recommend you stop on by! If not just for a tasting or 2 or 3 or 4, but their knowledge of the local wines is a big help is you're going wine tasting in the paso robles area.

We LOVE this place! The owners are so friendly and helpful and they certainly know their wine. They have an eccentric and unconventional list of wine that they are happy to school you on. I am so glad we decided to go in to this little shop because it made our Cayucs experience that much better!

I cannot express with words the feeling I get when I walk into "the Moon," but it always makes me smile.  The wine list is always changing, and ALL of them are great.  If you're into traditionally-made wines, non-oaked, new stuff, anything, not only will Jeanettie and Mika have them, but will be able to talk to you about the wine, it's characteristics, and the winery.  They know their stuff!  I am consistently impressed with the amount of knowledge both of these women have.  The food is great; the soups are yummy, I adore the M&M (Membrillo and Manchego) plate, and the cheeses they get are incredible.

I can't think of a better place to spend a Friday, Saturday, or honestly, just any night of the week!  The patrons are friendly, they've got a great relaxed atmosphere, and it's just a really fun place to be.

Excellent wine, fantastic people and a gorgeous view!!! The lovely ladies know everything about wine. Choose between a tasting, a flight or a glass of either local or international wine. It's a must stop on your central coast wine tour.

Very nice place. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, good selection of local & not so local wines, relaxed atmosphere. A great place to hang out & taste some wine for a bit. This was a great opportunity to try some of the local wineries I hadn't had a chance to visit yet.  Check it out!

My family and I just spent a week in Cayucos, and while my in-laws were watching our kids we headed into town hoping to catch the tasting at Cayucos Cellars.  Unfortunately we were too late for that, but the owners there directed us to Full Moon.  We were so glad they did!  We did the tasting sampler (about one ounce pours) and were really impressed with the staff's knowledge of the wines they were pouring for us.  We didn't eat while we were there, and the menu was pretty limited to soup, some appetizers, and a couple paninis, but the wine selection was fantastic.  It was a really enjoyable evening--too bad we stopped in on our last night there!

Really nice, laid back, great wines served by people who really know their stuff.

We headed to Cayucos after Thanksgiving weekend and stumbled upon Full Moon after a meal. We were going to head to the saloon but it was a bit too crowded and noisy, so we spotted the wine bar was open and headed on in.

We were greeted by the two lovely ladies who run the place, they late us take our time to get settled, browse the menu etc. We decided to do the tasting to see if there was anything that caught our fancy, and ended up staying late drinking a pretty stellar Chardonnay with the staff. The $10 fee didn't phase us, even before we started, good selection of interesting wines, and we learned a lot about the other things to do in the area (their tip on the smoked fish sandwiches was spot on, in addition to places to stay etc).

Definitely worth a stop in - the interior isn't luxurious or anything like that, a few high tables and the bar itself, but they've only just opened a few months and it was clean and cosy, and for us, a perfect low key end to a nice evening.

Great wine and excellent company coupled with some of the realest people you could meet and add in the awesome snacks and you can't find a better place off Highway 1 in the central coast!

I wasn't impressed after all the rave reviews. Yes, they have an extensive wine list of the better & less commercial Wineries which is great. The 2 ladies that worked there KNEW their stuff, they could tell you all about wines & the regions which was great. But $10 for tastings is a little steep, and the owner said she's a wine bar, not a tasting room (although the sign says both?)  so she's limited in her pours & bottles she opens, but still, no dice for me. And you can't sit outside WHEN there IS a nice day in Cayucas to enjoy wine. You stuck inside in a very small cafe style room. We had the Red Zeppelin Cabernet which was tasty, but I'd prefer a true wine glass that aerated my wine as a swirled & sipped.

Full Moon Tasting Room features a wine list made up of from some of the better wineries in the Paso Robles / Templeton area with a few from beyond.

However, its the food menu and preparation that is the hidden treasure and surprise in Cayucos. Jeannettie creates dishes from fresh, organic ingredients. Each dish is painstakingly crafted by hand with a great deal of love and care. So, as in Europe, the wait might be longer than some might expect but it is definitely well worth it! Full Moon uses smoked fish from Jim Ruddell's Smoke House, and home made breads from Hoppe's Garden Bistro; both also located in Cayucos. Full Moon specializes in home made soups and amazing chili's during the winter and fall football season. Jeanettie also creates wonderful picnic lunches to go that are fantastic!! Jeanettie's creations are worthy of the very best Italian alimentari or osteria. Italian countryside cooking at its best in the ancient traditions that reach back to foregone days of the enopoliums and thermopoliums! Alla casalinga!

However, I must admit to a certain confusion when it comes to Full Moon's selections as far as wine? The basic premise is to carry locally produced wines (mostly west Paso Robles based as opposed to further south starting in Edna). The second qualification according to the proprietress is that red wines are for nobility and white for peasants? This apparently comes down from her Italian Piemontese forebears? Having lived in Italy for a number of years I can say with certainty that this is likely a very provincial saying. Each and every region of Italy and beyond produce particular varietals and depending on soil and climate the tastes associated with a particular region can be quite different?

As far as Piemonte (Piedmont) today is concerned the more prevalent and most popular wine varietals are in fact the whites. In short the Piemontesi might take great exception to the notion of the "superior reds". To whit:

    __________________________________________________

Sebbene il Piemonte sia famoso per la sua grandissima produzione di vini rossi, non si può non apprezzare e riconoscere la grandissima qualità dei suoi vini bianchi.

It is known that the Piemonte is famous for its grand production of red wines, but one cannot help but appreciate and recognize the superior quality of her white wines.

The white wines of Piemonte (the Piedmont), in fact, are increasingly gaining a prominent position in every market: white wines from Piemontese (Piedmont) Oenology are always the most sought after and not just for the great regard that the spumanti (Asti in the leaed) but also and above all for the great regard held for all of the other types of white wine.

The white wine of the Piemonte (Piedmont) is produced principally with local varietals such as  the Erbaluce and the Arneis or with international varietals such as Sauvignon, Chardonnay and the Pinot (bianco or grigio). The Arneis, in particular, is the bases of two of the more famous white wines of the Piemonte (Piedmont): the Roero Arneis DOCG and the Langhe Arneis DOCG, an important part of the enological excellence in the region.

When we speak of  the white wines of the Piemonte, let us not forget the famous Gavi DOCG wines, made from Cortes grapes, and the long line of excellent sparkling wines and proseccos with the head of this excellent line held by Spumante d'Asti DOCG and the Roero Arneis.

I will add that perhaps the most excellent white wine in all of Italy comes in fact from Piemonte and from the Arneis grape and its label and appellation is that of Cerretto Blange in the Roero valley. It has been the official wine of many Italian companies and organizations such as Piemonte based Lamborghini and Maserati.

Full Moon features the ambience of an ocean view, wonderful wood accents along with a Sequoia wood bar and bamboo floors. Lots of interesting items for sale, including local olive oil. Which I do purchase and enjoy. The ladies are congenial and reasonably knowledgeable.

Went on a 4th of July, and a few other occasions, and had a fantastic time at Full Moon Tasting Room, in wonderful Cayucos by the sea! It's what this little charming town was missing! Wide selection of local wines, good food, local art and a warm, inviting atmosphere make this the perfect place to hang out either in a lazy sunny afternoon (what a gorgeous ocean view they have!) or a rainy one as well, in great company! The menu changes constantly and everything is unbelievably fresh  mostly appetizers)
Wonderful wines, funny, vibrant, informative staff, a must- stop if you're in the area!

You could spend a week wine tasting in the Paso Robles or Edna Valley regions and not find as many great local wines by the taste/glass/bottle as you will find in this local wine bar/bistro.  The owners are super nice and  extremely informative.
The food menu is limited and changes every day, but on the bright side, they are selecting local (if possible) organic, farm produced products to serve, including: local veggies, artisan bread,  gourmet cheeses, aged meats and local tree-ripened fruits. Their handcrafted dips are to die for.  Petite sandwiches, sublime (Make sure to ask for the day's special).
In a town full of tourist trap restaurants (Hoppe's excluded)  and local bars that are hard to feel comfortable in, Full Moon really  is a great place to soak up what makes Cayucos, and the central coast, a truly wonderful place to visit or call home.

Awesome little tasting room along the "main drag" of Cayucos. Big selection of wines, and you can build your own flight (from ~3-4 oz pours) or tasting set (of ~1oz pours), or have them build one for you.
The super friendly and helpful pourer built a flight for my husband and one for me, both out of central coast wines, and she had stories about each wine. The winemakers for the town's wine came in, too. They had non-local and international wines, too, but I was feeling central coast-curious.

Really good (local?) cheeses, too. That Ewe-phoria... yum.

One thing to note: although they say "bistro" on their sign, they seem like more of a tasting room to me, at least in terms of food. No soup, salad, meals, etc... just good wine and some dips, cheeses, local bread... I'm probably forgetting something.

Also fantastic is that they are open LATE (maybe that's where the "bistro" kicks in). I don't remember all their hours, but they are open until 10pm on Saturdays!

Cayucos is great. I'm so glad I decided to spend a night there on my LA-SF drive!
