Place is pretty okay. Kind of reminds me of St. John's Bar and Grill from the decor.
Tried their buffalo chicken pizza, and it was mediocre at best. The combination of celery and onions didn't really do it for me. The pizza took awhile to get to us too. Crust was pretty crunchy, not really a fan of crunchy crust since it's kinda harder for me to eat. (old lady right here. Lol) Sister had a hard time eating it too cause of her braces. But i dont know, maybe if you dig crunchy crust you would like it here.
I would probably give it another shot and try another pizza some other time, but for now Jake's has my heart for yummy pizza!
We have been coming to the Garret and the Garret Station for years but my last visit was horrible. 3 stars because the burgers are just that good but the pizza this last time was among the worst I have ever had, like Little Caesar's bad. I am a huge fan of pizza and I couldn't stand it. Costco like crust (never had that before) and a coating of sauce 1/4 in thick with skimpy cheese and toppings. I could have gotten the same pizza at Little Caesars for a lot less than $65.
Anything else on the menu here is fantastic and the staff is really good, they'll help you out with special requests without any hesitation.
Try the Garret Station for really good pizza.
The service here is awesome!!! I was helped by Bruce, Brent & Ryan! I had to ask their names they were so great. They were quick and extremely knowledgable about the food. I would come back just for the service. Helped that the food was awesome too! I might just have to become a regular! Plus I got to watch the A's win on their sweet TV's!
Review Source:The Garret is a great neighborhood sports bar where everybody knows your name. Or at least they know mine and my husband's.
Leanne, Steve, Jason and the rest of the staff are always friendly and make us feel like we are really welcome. Leanne always has our iced teas ready on the counter before we even get up there, no matter the length of the line.
The fries are outstanding and portions are just right. I'm on a new diet program so bring my own protein and veggie. I order a tossed green salad - actually romaine and tomatoes and Leanne will microwave my stuff, add it to the salad and toss with my dressing. At no extra charge!!
The new pastrami sandwich has become my husband's favorite, after the grilled ham and cheese. The pastrami is lean and tender, cheese is nice and melted and the lettuce and tomato are a great touch. It's served on an always fresh onion roll which adds great flavor. Served with a great helping of the crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside fries and it's one of the best sandwiches in town.
We eat at the Garret about 3x week and are consistently pleased with the food and service.
This place is pretty mediocre. And, I feel, overpriced for what you get.
The beer selection is decent but not awesome.
If you need a quick bite at someplace casual that's no frills, it'll probably do just fine.
Remember to tell them how you want your burger cooked or they'll make it well done. I made that mistake.
There are several TVs, if you like that sort of thing.
Bigger on the inside than it appears. Basically a tame mancave for republicans. Food is not bad, but not that great either. Toppings in the burgers not listed, ask the cashier. Lots of flat screen tvs with nooks for seating for both small and large groups. Â
Nothing too special, wouldn't be a place that I plan to go to purposely.
On Friday May 10, 2013: I heard this place had EXCELLENT burgers. Unfortunately I didn't get to experience that meat in my mouth. We got there NO later than 1:20am on a Friday night. The doors where locked tight. So stuffed bellies walked out and we rushed in. The man behind the counter looked at us as if we were off another planet. "WE STOPPED serving!" I told him, it's not even 1:30 or 2 for that matter, given that's the time they close. He said "LOOK AT THE CLOCK, it's 1:35" well, Sprint & AT&T said 1:23, but I let it go and dinned at a place that did have the right meat and it wasn't RUDE... FRIDAY NIGHTS, I guess are a hard one here
Review Source:The Garret is the sports bar you see on TV.
Wooden chairs, wooden floors, wooden bar top and a decent beer selection with a basic menu full of bar favorites.
The kicker: their pizza and wings!
The Garret supplies many more toppings than your average bar pizza that you've grown accustomed to. They consistently turn our perfect pies (I hate when people call them that but I didn't want to say "p*zza" again) with oozing cheese, a sweet and tangy tomato sauce and that unbeatable crunchy-on-the-outside, chewy-on-the-inside crust!
Even if you aren't feeling like a night of regretting pizza, wings and beer, The Garret has plenty of other great options; I recommend their chicken quesadillas or grab a turkey burger if you want to stay light on your toes.
You like a low-key sports bar with some food that won't disappoint? Then you like The Garret.
Good atmosphere if there is a big game on tv. Good place to hang out with friends and have a few beers and pizza and/or wings as well.
The pizza is pretty good in my opinion, I know some people may not feel the same way, but if you are watching a game, eating pizza and wings is the thing to do.
On days where there is I suggest going early because it will get packed and you will not be able to find chairs or tables.
Pros:
Lots of seating and tables
A lot of menu choices
Good atmosphere
Video games for kids
Beer
Pizza
Fondu
Wings
The service is good
Cons:
Chairs are those hard wooden ones that tend to not be very comfortable after awhile
Lack of TVs
Busy on big game days so arrive early
I've come to the garret a lot, growing up in the South Bay it was one of my dad's favorite places to take me. We decided to grab a pizza here when I was back in town, and I was pretty let down by the experience.
The pizza here is good, but the service was not so great. I was really craving garlic bread, but they didn't have it on the menu, so I asked the guy working the cash register as we ordered. He brushed me off, rudely telling me they didn't have it. Honestly, I don't expect too much in terms of service from a pizza place like this, but this guy was just plain rude. The pizza here gets 4 stars, but the garret loses a star for no garlic bread and rude service.
I just moved into the area and this is my favorite new spot!
They have Great beers on tap (which is essential in my books), great food, and a chill atmosphere. I didn't know this was sort of a DIY place (order at the counter, pick up your own food when ready, no server at your table kind of deal) when I first came here, which initially would have made me shy away from the establishment, but I'm glad I didn't.
I'm a huge hot wing fan, and these are some of the best I've ever had. SO much meat on them!!!! Pizza's are good too! I'm not such a fan of the gilroy as everyone else is, but their crust is amazing. All-in-all great local spot to grab a brew and hang out.
Yeah - pretty solid 4 stars here. I regret eating here, but that's not their fault. I've been eating super healthy lately and got taken here for a lunch the same day I had basketball in the evening - boy did I regret that heavy jalapeno burger and fries.
Don't get me wrong, for what it is this place is pretty good. The fries were the right blend of skin and tater with a pretty good flavor. The burger was also really good. Only reason it didn't score higher is that I'd probably rank it on about the same level as a 5-guys burger but at a 40% markup.
The pastrami sandwich my coworker got looked really good though - could even be enough to bump these guys to 5 had I ordered that, but I can't give a review on food I dun han't et yet.
Could see myself coming back here, could see myself not, but it's worth checking out if you're looking for a sports-bar-style heavy-food eatery.
Pepperoni and olives Mini Pizza. Â After looking at all of the selections available and there were many, I chose a simple pizza to measure The Garret by. Â The atmosphere is lower levels of light and wood. Â The barkeep ordertaker was helping someone with a credit card purchase when I came over and stood at the order desk. A minute goes by and barkeep is still not acknowledging me. In no particular hurry I review my options a fourth time on the big board. Â Next she pours someone a beer and some how manages only a faint wave of her hand to me. Â I'm like thinking maybe she is just going to make me wait another 5 minutes before she comes over here. Â I gather my patience and decide to count my money and make sure I have enough for a mini pizza and a soda. Â Yup I have enough. Â Finally she says how can I help you? Â Okay I order my pizza sit at the bar and meet some Stanford Engineering Instructor/researcher. Â Are we really talking Proton vs Photon Therapy? Â Hah the pizza has a crisp crust and a good amount of gooey cheese. Â The pepperoni is crisp and tasty. What have we here. Â I'd say close to the perfect pizza. Â Oh I am a fan. Â My first visit here and I know I will be returning often. Â Yum.
Review Source:Love this place! They have great pizza (gilroy special is my fave), good beers, friendly service, and great hours (if you are looking for a late night meal thus is a great place).
Randomly, I also love the tuna sandwich here, and I really don't eat tuna sandwiches in restaurants.
enjoy!
I have been in the restaurant business for twenty years, and I generally don't like what people say on yelp because it's often uninformed, too personal, and seems like people think that this is their 15 minutes of fame so they say hurtful things that often are vaguely true. So I usually email companies on their websites, that way they can have a chance to fix their issue instead of being publicly humiliated by someone with an axe to grind. But the Garret doesn't have that option, so here is my experience.
2 orders of fries, a chef salad, and an order of wings took 30 minutes, three people who ordered after us got their food. The girl behind the counter seemed unfazed when I asked about it. The salad was blah, fries ok, but the wings were inedible. I looooove salt, but they were too salty for me to eat. We left 90% of our food on the table.
I came here once, and frankly I wouldn't come here again, do not recommend it. When I first walked in there was a stale funky smell to the place. We ordered a pizza and some spicy curly fries, little did I know there are no waitresses and I have to pick up my own food. The pizza was decent, but I've had better. It basically had no crust and was very flat, but edible. However, the curly fries were a joke. The plastic plate was seriously half empty, when I asked the cook if that was it he actually laughed, even he knew the portion size was just ridiculous. I was so disturbed by the portion size I actually asked for a refund and got it. I'm never coming here again.
Review Source:Came here last week and it was great. We ordered wings, pizza, and I tasted my friends burger and everything was fantastic.
It did suck a little bit that everyone's food came out staggered, a product of the self ordering system they have - we probably should have let the pizza order in first, but that is really my only gripe. The pizza was tasty, crispy and had great toppings and tasty sauce. The fries were crisp, the wings were spicy, and while I didn't like the done-ness of my friend's burger, that was his own fault and that tasted great as well. I don't live down here, but when I visit it will definitely be a place I call out for!
I came here early Friday afternoon- to meet a colleague. Â It is laid back- looked like a great place to catch a game and get some good food. Â I had a turkey burger- I wasn't super impressed but I had a bite of a beef dip sandwich that was great and some delicious sweet potato fries. Â
I also love the different sized beer- 9 oz is my fave.
You order and pay for the food- handed a pager and pick your food and condiments when the pager lets you know your food is ready.
I will continue to frequent The Garret and recommend it to friends.
Quite a few TV's, but it's usually so packed in here that we can't even grab a table to watch the game!
I would give it 4 stars for the cheap pitchers, great pizza, and HD TV's.
The wings were not to my liking... Every great sports bar should have awesome wings! The ones here are way too crunchy, not very meaty, and the sauce was average.
The wings brought my rating down one star :/
The Garret is a pretty typical sports bar located in Campbell.
The menu is pretty good. Â There is pizza, sandwiches and burgers. Everything I've tried has been excellent. I love the curly fries and the onion rings. If you want some unhealthy comfort food or good american cuisine, this is the place.
The Garret also has a full bar for a drink with your meal or while watching the game.
The service is ok. You order and pay and then you're handed a pager to pick up your food.
The interior has a lot of tables and some booth. The seating is ample. The ambiance is not too loud to have conversations.
My favorite part is the name and the font. I don't know why but I really like it.
Edible, (hence the two stars) but not worth the calories by a long shot. Got dragged here by a buddy who claimed its the best pizza in San Jose. He was not only wrong, he was beyond dead wrong. Let's just say that next time he will not be the one deciding what to hit up - his opinion can no longer be trusted. He is dead to me when it comes to food preferences.
He also dragged two other friends with us, and they fully concurred with my experience: this place blows if you know anything about pizza.
Their real pizza oven sits dormant while they use a more modern regular pizza oven to turn out their crackery (in a bad way) crust and budget Costco-esque toppings. Speaking of, skip this place altogether and just hit the Costco food court... Even that would be more passable.
If you are into goons, sports bars, if you like wearing San Jose sharks jerseys, and you enjoy terrible pizza for people who don't want to spend a few more bucks for something with quality ingredients... Well... The Garret is your spot!
Personally I'm a fan of their other location, Jake's of Willow Glen. Somehow the food was a lot better there (well, at least the stuff that I ordered).
They have basically the same menu as the other locations, but I think every place prepares their food differently.
The steak sandwich here was bland and boring. I needed A1 steak sauce. Fries were okay.
My friends ordered other sandwiches and the GIlroy pizza I believe, and they said they were good. So maybe what I ordered wasn't the best they could do.
You know, when I first reviewed this place, along with reviewing Oasis in Menlo Park and Jake's in Sunnyvale, I realized that I disliked all three, and concluded that perhaps I just didn't like bar food. After visiting their web sites, though, I came to realize that all three are owned by the same people ("Jake's Catering"), so perhaps it's not that I dislike bar food, so much as I dislike this particular franchise.
Conversely, though, if you like one of the three, there's a better than average chance that you'll like the others, too! Everybody has different preferences, of course, so if this is yours, go ahead and check out the other locations if you have a chance.
As for The Garret, the ambiance is simple, with tile floors and wooden chairs and tables.
You order at the counter, and pick up your food from the counter when your buzzer starts vibrating. Not much to talk about in terms of service, as you largely serve yourself.
I ordered the quesadilla, and honestly, was pretty underwhelmed by it. There just wasn't really much flavor to it, a bit more could have been done to bring out the cheesiness of it.
Overall, it's nothing that excites me, and nothing I'll be seeking out.
I came here one Friday night after leaving a different bar. Although I had heard of the Garret, I had not been to it for whatever reason. So I had no idea that it stayed open so late.
On the night I came, it was pretty crowded and only got even more packed as time went on. We were sitting in a booth by the doors so I had no contact with customer service.
However, I had a taste of the chicken wings and I found them to be really fresh and spicy. I would definitely come back and possibly order them or try the pizza I keep hearing about.
One thing I noticed was they had some peculiar glasses for pouring out of the pitcher. They almost remembled little drinking cups for children.... and I'm not kidding. The beer also tasted old.
I'll be back to review more on the food and service in the future.
I've had their pizza and sandwiches here and both of them I must say were pretty good. It's hard not to like pizza when it comes freshly baked out of the oven but their sandwiches here are just as good in my opinion. I ordered the spicy buffalo sandwich and it tasted almost exactly like buffalo wings in a sandwich.
Their fries are nicely made too, but their curly fries need some work. Half of mine were all clumped into one huge curly fry which was amusing to me. Great place to watch sports games too as they have many TVs in the area
Customer Service was Fast & Friendly !
XTra Star for a Great Selection of Beer on Tap :))
IMO the Pizza wasn't that Great .... I actually liked the Pepperoni Pizza over the Gilroy Garlic.
I would go back to try other things, since the menu is Huge! [They don't only sell Pizza]
For Great Pizza I Prefer High5 [in SJ] But Customer Service Sucks! [@High5]
