Nice environment, service is nice and friendly also. But sad thing is they did not have the duck when we went that night. The pasta itself is great. Will certainly go again.

Try the New York steak - yum! The Garden Room is so nice with the fountain providing atmosphere. The mushrooms, salad, wine list (try the Stella Rosa) and flat bread - pretty much everything,
    including service is excellent.

I'd give it 3.5 stars but the fact that the service was great and food was delicious, I'll give it 4.  It's not so much a hole in the wall as to "why is it over here?"  Not necessarily a bad thing since there's plenty of parking spots.

The food is very good, with generous portions.  On Thursdays they have unlimited pasta night but they give so much I could only eat one serving.

Great food and great service.  Been for lunch a couple of times and everything I've tried is great.  The little brushetta they put out with bread is spectacular and unexpected so don't miss it.  And try anything with the Alfredo sauce.  My favorite so far is the gnocchi, just enough blue cheese flavor and not overwhelming--very rich though, don't try and eat the whole thing.  A great place to meet the wife for lunch (looked like lots of ladies lunching).  Menu is a pretty good selection of Italian classics, although they also had fish tacos which made me worry a little--I'm sure they are great, but....  Great atmosphere and very relaxing.  Not sure what the dinner scene is like, but I'm willing to try it out.  Not sure I want to bring my kids, they would like the food, but I don't want to spoil the scene.

We go here frequently for lunch and always have outstanding food and service.  They have outstanding homemade ravioli and great salads.  Their Chinese Chicken Salad is my favorite and is a large portion for a reasonable price.

Had a great meal for an even better price. Mon-Wed the dinner specials last till 7:00. $7.95 and there were 6 choices. Homemade cream of cauliflower soup and grilled talilapia w/ vegetables. Guest had salad and 1/2 baked chicken with potatoes. Yum. We had great service and were thankful we didn't get the apathetic waitress. Will go back. Get past the weirdly eccletic decor and enjoy. They have moved from Citrus to the "Off Citrus" location.

in its beautiful new location, this little Italian restaurant has the best lunch special in town. For $5.99 you can have items such as baked manicotti along with a large bowl of FRESH soup, such as red bellpepper, artichoke, .....whatever the soup of the day is, it is always a must try. You get fresh baked bread, which is undescribable along with some sauce to dip in. And yes! All fof $5.99 Add a glass of wine for another 5 bucks, your set! They are known for their fresh soups. If you listen to the gal answering the phone, you will hear her repeat over and over again, phone call after phone call, the soups of the day. If they have cream of artichoke on the menu, don't pass it up! If you miss it for lunch, they have an early bird special too. The atmosphere is nice. Its a good place for a business luncheon or meeting a special friend.  If you make it for dinner, all the pastas are wonderful, try a steak, or fish and never leave without having dessert! The chocolate cake, wow! I didnt know that so much chocolate could be in a piece of cake

It's small restaurant in the old downtown Covina.  The appearance looks upscale.  Tables are too close so you can hear the conversation from the next table.  Foods and service are average.

First off this place is quite deceiving if you ask me. It look so nice and pretty fancy when you walk in. Once I sat down though I noticed that the linens were dirty and the table was sooo wobbly.  I went there wanting some bruschetta and when I ordered it I came to find out they deep fry the bread? Why would you do that? They skimped on the tomatoes which is what bruschetta is supposed to consist of! There was literally maybe 1 tbsp of chopped tomatoes on each piece of bread. I ordered the calamari and it was so bland:( Nothing impressive, that's for sure. Either way I left so unsatisfied from this place. I would never recommend it to anyone and I will not be returning.

Though I haven't had a horrible experience here, it's definitely not a place to write home about. I've been to Giovanni's twice. The first time I ordered the manicotti lunch special in a light cream sauce. It was a small portion, but the flavor was decent and it was after all a cheap lunch special ($8.95) that included a side salad that arrived swimming in a pool of vinaigrette. The bruschetta pizza bread starter seemed to have been warmed in the microwave, perhaps more than once, as the few crunchy, badly dehydrated and nonabsorbent pieces clearly suggested. I work 2 miles down the road so it's a quick easy mediocre lunch that I can throw down with a cold glass of pinot grigio every now and then--a welcomed excursion away from the dullness of the workaday world... until I get back home to LA where I can really enjoy some good Italian cooking.

I was craving Italian for my birthday this year and since I live in Covina and have never tried this place I figured why not?

    Man was I disappointed.

It took a while for the three of us to be seated, not a problem I'm a patient person.  when we got sat they brought something that was similar to pita bread with a yummy tomato spread.  The menu was fairly large so we took a little while to order.  The service was awkward, trying to be upscale, but failing, horribly.  I ordered the tortellini and my entree came with a salad.  The vinaigrette and lettuce were good, but my tomatoes had blemishes, not cool.

When the entree's came i was a little surprised to see a watery cream sauce with my tortellini, i don't see stuffed pasta with cream sauce as very complimentary.

But my entree was nothing compared to my friends.  She ordered the vegetarian lasagna, no where in this description did it say anything about spicy (she can't deal with spicy food).  One bite and her mouth was burning.  I decided to taste it, and i thought it was pretty spicy too.  closer inspection revealed that it was swimming with red pepper flakes!

We called over the server and he said that it comes a little spicy.  Since i was nearly finished eating, she decided not to order anything else and just eat some more bread, which took 20 minutes.

We ordered dessert which was good, but then they brought strawberries which were again Blemished and brown! really?!

Finally it gets to bill time, and the lasagna is still on the bill, we didn't eat it so we sure shouldn't have to pay for it!  We asked the woman who looked like the manager/owner to please take it off the bill because it was way to spicy.  She looked at us like we were crazy and said "It's just marinara."
our server then walked up and she questioned him and he blamed it on the other server!

I think the worst part was that our server tried to fool us that we were the wrong ones.

    Will not be going back.

Had my daughter's 1st Communion on Sat and I had to give this place the praise it deserves. We had the restaurant all to ourselves. Linda (the owner) was great. The wait staff was very attentive. Glasses did not run empty. Bruschetta was the best, everyone loved it and kept asking for more. It wasn't the usual hard, crusty bread. This was a nice focaccia. We offered New York steak, veal parm, chicken parm, eggplant lasagne, and spaghetti bolognesse. I don't think I saw one plate with food left on it. Everyone loved it. Mind you there were about 45 people and half are full-blooded, off the boat, Italians. These are some picky people and they loved everything. I heard nothing but praise from them.  I highly recommend Giovannis.

I've eaten a lot of calamari in my life and I'm going to say that Giovanni's has my favorite calamari - in fact, I'm craving it right now. They don't make it smothered in batter and then fried (yuck), they make it nice a crispy on the outside with tons of flavor. I liked everything we ordered and there's a nice selection of dishes to choose from depending on your pleasure (serving sizes are enough to fill you up plus take some home). The decorations are kinda funky and confused inside, but I'll say that's part of this restaurant's charm. Enjoy it!

I've been coming to this restaurant for years! The ownership has changed once, and over time the menu had changed slightly.  Food food in general is nothing to rave about, and the service is just ok.

The lunch staff was a bit rude, when wanting us to pay, and leave when it turned 2:00 o'clock.

It's small so expect everyone  to hear your conversation.  :/

I really like this place. I love how it looks like a vintage old fashioned italian restaurant which I love and do not see much of anymore. The service is great, shrimp cocktails were delicious and great size. the pasta was good and I am actually excited to go back to try the other seafood or pasta on the menu.

Here's how it goes.  There are several new-ish restaurants in downtown covina, but I decided to try this one since I'd never eaten there before.  It was really empty in there, and despite my table being one of only two service was a little slow.  No biggie.  So, I was intrigued by the Scalone.  It's a serving of three patties made of minced Abalone and scallop.  Never seen that before, so I gave it a shot.  First impression, very oily and heavy.  Interesting flavor.  I really enjoyed the blanched (some of it at least) spinach bed.  Smell was fishy.  In fact, everyone at the table commented on it, but you know, it's shellfish.

That night, I experience some mildly unpleasant stomach cramping.  I woke up for work at 5:30am, and just felt... not right.  Basically, I threw up all over myself in the car on the 210 halfway to burbank, and have been an extremely unhappy camper all day.

The lesson.  Don't eat here.  Just don't do it.  It's a bit on the pricey side, and the other food ordered at the table ranged from so so, to meh.   I'd recommend perhaps ANYWHERE ELSE.

Had lobster ravolli for dinner, and it was excellent. The interior design is terrible, but don't let that fool you this is a good Italian restaurant.

I haven't been to Giovanni's lately, but I loved the food in the past.  I just wish they had booths instead of uncomfortable tables.

    Ron L (above) -  that's kind of a weird review.  Why all the dots? ...   ...  ...
If they looked at you strangely, there must have been a reason.  I would examine this reason.  Look deep within to find out what it might be.
