Have been to this restaurant a couple of times over the years.  Haven't been recently because I don't like having to eat something else later after ordering an expensive meal.  Last time I went there, it was a bad experience.  First, they served bread with oil and vinegar.  The bread was strange.  The oil and vinegar both tasted bad.  Either the ingredients were too cheap, or they were rancid.  Maybe both.  The vinegar was also not reduced.  Hmmm.  When my chicken marsala arrived, it was swimming in a verrry watery sauce that didn't look remotely like marsala sauce.  What are they using?  Three Monks?  The sauce was unbelievably tasteless.  I actually don't know how they made it taste like nothing.  The chicken itself was also tasteless and dry.  The capellini under the chicken was also tasteless due to the watery sauce. I didn't eat the veggies.  I actually felt bad for the guy taking me here.  He paid quite a bit trying to impress me with this cruddy food.  I wondered if he had taste buds.  Needless to say, I went home and ate some food.

My husband and I had a great dinner tonight! We've eaten here probably four times and its it always good! Our server, Halee, was as good as she could be. I always have difficult questions, as I'm a vegetarian, which contrary to popular belief doesn't include regular cheese. She and the kitchen were very helpful! Of course, we over ordered! So many great things to choose from! Their menu is really varied! We had the bruschetta and fried artichoke hearts, delish!  My husband had the the Tuscan steak and I had the polenta with spinach and marinara! Both were great! We had a bottle of wine which was great! Sure it's not cheap but we brought home enough for a remake tomorrow night! Lol Worth it and pretty standard for good restaurants in Redding!  But really the best service we could ask for! One negative, we went because of the radio add about the Chicago beer. My husband is a craft beer guy. Don't have the Chicago beer , I think it was called 312, unless you like week old Coors Light infused with perfume. Their wine list is great!

Had pasta. Heard from my Chicago friend that they didn't have a really good deep dish but he wanted to try their pasta so he was willing to go back.  We both had ravioli with different sauces. Mine was artichoke with cream sauce and he had a regular beef ravioli with red sauce. Mine wasn't bad, there was just a lot of cream.

I do got to say that their cheesecake and coffee were great! And their service! We were the last ones there after they closed and they made a new pot of coffee for us, nice and hot. Can't remember what kind of cheesecake we had but it was a nice big slice for the both of us and really good. I'm willing to go back and try the deep dish pizza for myself.

Decided to try for a business dinner. BIG MISTAKE! Service was slow, waitress acted like she didn't want to be there and food was a joke. At one point I got the impression from the waitress that ordering was keeping her from something more important. Food was tasteless, portions small, and very overpriced. After this meal I am convinced they don't have a chef, just a frozen food reheater.

I'm a fan of Girondas and really enjoy the atmosphere. I was dissapointed with the level of service though, not from our server but the hostess. We were the first couple in for lunch and she seemed unfriendly and rushed. No eye contact, lacked courtesy and friendliness. Our server made up for it and so did the Pumpkin-spice Soup!!! Oh my it was unreal. Better than any butternut squash soup I've ever had! It's definitely a must try.

Delicious pizza.  Better as eat-in than take-out, but still a good pie on the fly.  We prefer the Jimmy G's, thin crust, with spicy sausage and red sauce.  The rest of their cuisine is just OK.

If you're in the mood for pizza, this is our fav. in Redding.

Decided to go back to Gironda's last night after having not been for several months... BIG mistake!  I am reviewing this 1* based 98% on the TERRIBLE service we received.  First we requested an extra side of blue cheese dressing for artichoke heart appetizer - the waitress brought horse radish?  Second we then sat at the table for nearly 35 minutes and were finally served dinner but unfortunately- I NEVER received my salad and when I mentioned it to the waitress and told her "never mind" she brought it anyway (it was ALL lettuce and dressing - not even a tomato or cucumber).  Third, once we finished eating we literally sat and sat and sat and sat waiting until I finally stacked the dishes on our table (hint hint hint) and continued to sit until I simply told the waitress to bring the check.  Not once during our crappy meal (after the horse radish incident) did the waitress even bother to ask how everything was.  The food tasted great but unfortunately the poor service made me sorry for even going.

I'm surprised at all the negative reviews.  I don't go all the time but have gone at least once a year since they opened.  There is consistency in good service and good food. Made to order lasagna! Great pizza, a decent wine list (or a decent corkage fee), good antipasti dish.  A great date place, or even birthday dinner!

This place is consistently good.  We've always found the servers to be attentive and helpful in making suggestions when ordering.   Previously I've always had dinner here. Today I went for lunch for the first time.  Again, food and service were very good.  I had a Crab Cake Salad...two crab cakes atop a bed of lettuce, cashews, mandarin oranges, asparagus, and minced green onions. With their delicious bread this lunch was only 9.99.  One of the best lunches in Redding....nice atmosphere as well.  A great value.

This review is going to be more of a lesson. A lesson in time management. Lol

Having purchased tickets online ahead of time for a movie on opening weekend, and not getting out of work until an hour and a half before that time, getting ready, driving to Redding, you're left with a very small window to eat.

And that's if you know where you're going.

We decided on this place after Plan A fell through, and we were in the vicinity of it. Once inside we informed the Host that we had just over an hour to eat and make the movie. He assured us we would be fine.

He also passed this information onto our server, and he took it very seriously. Haha

We ordered quick based on his recommendation, and we really didn't wait long for our food.

We ordered the Tuscan steak with asparagus and mashed potatoes. We like our steak well done, not helping the time factor. But the server kept checking on us and inquiring about our time limit. The bread wasn't great, and I ordered Tomato Basil soup and got Minestrone, but it was good and we were pressed so I didn't see the need to make a fuss.

My other half was impressed that her salad was shaken with her dressing, normally just having it added to the top. It did lack croutons though.

Onto the steak. Amazing! Flavorful, not dry in the slightest, cooked to perfection. You could cut it with just your fork!

We took half our meals to go, and the server put them in His & Hers boxes. He was a pretty cool guy.

I also like the setup of this establishment. It's fancy, but the cooking line is right out front where you can see it. Dimly lit for that romantic vibe. It was a bit pricey, but well worth it.

If you have time to stop and enjoy it that is. ;)

Not only have a had bad food expirences here in the past just dining in, we have had them cater a company christmas party as well last year and the food was cold, not ready on time (finally ready an hour and a half after the promised time with 3 weeks notice) and the staff was rude. I will never eat here again!!. Save your money, go somewhere else!!

My husband and I Dine out freqeuntly in the Redding area.  We have stopped a time before and had a beer and appetizer in the bar and really liked the mood.  So after hearing their ads on the radio for the deep dish pizza, we couldnt wait to try it!! were  soooo disappointed... The waiter was Bill, and warned us it could be 40 minutes for pizza, so we said fine and ordered beers.. I should say a beer cuz we sat there for 20 minutes while he completly ignored us, until I finally asked for another round.. Wow Bill, u only had three tables and you put all your attention on a young girl with her boyfriend.. Very creepy.. On a good note the bread with the artichoke dip was fantastic.. Not a deep dish pizza, not even close.  No meat and tons of cheap cheese

We were not that impressed the last time we ate here, a few years ago, so never went back. Just average Italian food. We received a $50 gift card for Gironda's so decided to use it about a week ago. My wife had me check for happy hour, so I checked their Web site and we arrived about 40 before it would be over at 6PM.

When we asked our waitress about happy hour, she said that it only applied if you went to sit at the bar. I am no brain surgeon, but it seems to me that somebody who is going to buy a couple of dinners shouldn't have to get up on go to the bar to have a couple of drinks. So needles to say, we were off to a rocky start and we didn't go to the bar.

My wife ordered the Salmon special and I ordered their Tuscan steak. Our waitress said she was holding our dinner orders while we ate our salad and had a glass of wine.

The salad consisted of lettuce, one small tomato slice and a little piece of onion, along their dressing.

When the meals arrive they were barely warm. When the waitress returned later to ask how we like our meals she could tell from our expression something was wrong. My wife said, "Do you really want to know?" So she responded that her meal was barely warm and the salmon was dry. The waitress asked if she wanted her to take it back to the kitchen. My wife said that it was eatable, so no. The waitress returned later saying that the cook said they followed cooking guidelines, as if that made up for it.

My steak was O.K., but nothing to write about.

The garlic mash potatoes were not very good, so we just ate a little.

    The vegetables were good though.

It wasn't the waitress fault, so she got a good tip, but we will never return. The manager didn't even care enough to visit out table.

With tax and tip, the tab came to over 80 dollars. This was definitely not worth that kind of money.

We will never go back, EVER! If we had gone to Nello's place, for about the same money, I am sure we would have been very happy. Adios Gironda's

We have eaten here a million times and never had a bad meal!  The clams are tasty, the raviolis simple but delicious.  Boyfriend gets the Tuscan Steak and loves it.  Their take out is just as good or we've had it delivered by Entree Express for $6 and the dinner was hot and perfect!  Love.

Always considered this restaurant being average, but recently received the worst customer service experience and won't go back.  I order a lunch take out order and they had mixed it up...an honest mistake.  The problem is the chef was a jerk and just plain rude...to bad the kitchen is up front.  He didn't want to fix the mix up and the only waitress helping didn't get any help from anyone else.  I was waiting there with no one giving me an answers.  Bad food and even worst customer service

We had a group of 6 eat here for an early dinner - about 5pm.  Service was incredibly slow...just to order drinks.  There were only 3 other tables occupied.  One of our guests waited an additional 5 minutes just for her iced tea.  We ordered the Antipasto Plate as an appetizer, which had a bad piece of meat mixed in.
The food was decent.  The dinner salad was small and obviously out of a bag.  I ordered the Shrimp Piccata.  I think my shrimp was maybe supposed to be breaded, however it was falling off and a big mess.  The sauce was very buttery and heavy.  It did not seem fresh whatsoever.  The price was a little over the top for what we ordered.  This is the 2nd time I have been here in about 3 years.  It will probably be that long until I come back again.  $200 for the 6 of us (one ordering off the kid's menu) with a few drinks.

I used to like this place, kinda, sorta.

I even stood up for a waiter in the joint several years ago when a particularly obnoxious patron went all jackass about his food and his waiter, and I had to pull the owner aside and explain that his waiter had comported himself admirably and with great restraint, and if I'd been the waiter, I'd have most assuredly dumped the ice water over the patron's head.

But unfortunately, they've tried to reinvent themselves as some sort of "value dining" option.

For lunch today, I had a chicken Caesar salad.  The pieces of chicken breast were drier than (whatever happened to...) Steven Wright's delivery. The romaine lettuce was wilted and brownish around the edges -- it probably looked old three days ago. The "croutons" were pieces of cut up sourdough bread that weren't even baked, let alone seasoned in any way.  Just pieces of bread. The service was marginal at best. If I recall correctly, the salad was about $9.00.

If that's "value," then I'm beating out Buster Posey for the catcher's position for the San Francisco Giants next spring.

To bad you cant give it 0 stars because thats what this place deserves. About 5 years ago I would have said this is the best Italian food in Redding, but now it is just another out of the bag dinner establishment.

I know they use Sysco foods meatballs. This is acceptable for cafeteria food in which I have worked previously but when I'm paying over $20 a meal I expect more.

The pizzas are good but they tend to always put the newest person on the line on pizza and salads so beware!

Try Olive Garden before here at least they are consistently acceptable.

Food is good, but service of food takes way too long.  It took over an hour to be served for lunch. I called 3 days in advance and made a reservation for 7. When we showed up, they had lost their reservations so were not prepared for our group dining on our lunch hour. 3 of our lunches were a salad special and 4 of us had soup. There really should be no reason salad and soup should take over an hour to serve.

This is not the first time the service has been so slow. I won't go ba k by choice. I can't afford 2 hour lunch hours.

One of our favorite restaurants, haven't had a bad dish in the dozen of times we've been there.  Staff is attentive, wine is well priced and it's great they're open for lunch again.  I recently had the chicken cranberry salad and raviolis.  Lunch for 2 was about $25.  Dinner - don't miss the Tuscan prime rib and I love the Linguini with clams.  My three teen girls also LOVE
going there for celebrations since they mix and match the sauce to the pastas.

This was our first visit to Gironda's. After trying the 'run of the mill' restaurants of Redding we were so ready for something better.
    Gironda's did not disappoint.
From the bread when you sit down to a sinful dessert, the experience and service was brilliant.
I found the place had a unique ability to keep a good atmosphere while allowing you privacy while eating. We ate there on a Monday night and they were busy!, although we were able to be seated straight away.

My wife had the Veal while i had the Mushroom Dish, both were excellent.

We will be come regulars at Gironda's the servers were extremely attentive without it being obviously ( a rare quality) knew and understood the menu very well.

This is true Italian food at very reasonable prices.

I had been concerned up to now where I could take business clients for a decent meal....I have now found that place.

If you haven't been ...go, if you have been, then you know what I am talking about.

We make the I5 drive from NW Washington to Bay Area a couple times a year, and timing it so that we can eat at Gironda's is an important part of our planning.

Having grown up in Chicago but relocated to the Bay Area in the 70s, I spent 30 years looking for a pizza in California that I liked. Some were OK, most were terrible. (Seriously? Thai Chicken pizza? Oughta be a law.) I like thin West-side pizza, and to me, Italian Sausage and pizza are inseparable.

I can truly say that Gironda's pizza was the grail of my quest. Excellent thin crust, tasty sauce with just a touch of sweet, and cheese baked to that perfect brown about 30 seconds before it goes too far.

And the sausage! Just like Home Run Inn on Kostner.

I asked the waitress where they got the sausage, and she said the owner makes it. Of course.

Everything else I've had here is excellent too, but the pizza is the best I've found in a 30-year quest.

The only down side is the location. It even confused my GPS, telling me to turn right off a bridge that had no turn-offs. But any true Chicago cuisine fan cruising the I5 should make the stop.

I wish i could write great things about this place butttt i cant. I went in with family for dinner and had a slow server. My chicken fettucini alfredo was terrible. The sauce had no taste and to top it off my chicken was cold. My brother ordered steak with potatoes on the side, and he didnt bother finishing his plate. The potatoes were cold, literally cold and had a different texture. It would take forever to get our water refilled as well. I hope they do something to help their business because it used to be good a few years ago.

We recently went to this restarunt in order to avoid Redding's over-abundance of  mega-chains, and for the most part it was a good call.
The main components of every meal on the table were cooked very well and tasted great. The only disappointment was the sauce (which I guess is a main component seeing how this is Italian food), it was plain tasting and thin. For the prices you pay for a meal at this restaurant the sauce should be a very tasty player on the plate.

The weakness of the sauce was quite a surprise since we all enjoyed the pizza from Gironda's  the last time we had it, perhaps I'm remembering the pizza better than it was because pizza is amazing? I dunno.

Will I go here again? Yes. I just wont order anything that uses tomato sauce.

If I had ordered the steak I would have given this place 4 stars, but since tomato sauce pretty much the most important part of Italian food I gave it 3.

Go here and eat the Tuscan Steak with the house red served in water glasses.  That is a meal well worth the price.  Also, chocolate lava cake is just right.  This is a wonderful place.

I am not that super impressed with the rest of the menu or the service at this restaurant, but they definitely make the best pizza pie in Redding next to Fasolini's. Nice thin crust, premium toppings, all from scratch...it's not the Bay Area but it's better than average. Also, they have a drive through window which makes it easy to pick up and really yummy appetizers too, keep up the good work Gironda's!

Went here one night, while on our way to Mt. Shasta.  We walked in late around 9:30 and were promptly seated by a nice hostess.  Our waitress came by with the free bread and dipping sauce, which was good.  The alcoholic drinks were pretty strong and their wine selection was decent.

Got the calamari appetizer which was very good.  For dinner I had the seafood risotto which was done perfectly.  Very creamy, and full of flavor.  The seafood was cooked very well; nothing was under or over cooked.  The asparagus was a nice touch (I always like asparagus in my risotto).

The service was prompt and friendly and our drinks were always kept full.  Our waitress specifically was very nice; she joked with us, suggested a couple things to eat and checked on us occasionally, but not in an overbearing way.  Also, for her regular 9 to 5, she works for a drug company and had this awesome pen that she ended up giving me, seriously if you see a 'Bystolic' pen - steal it - it's almost worth going to jail for.

However, back to the food, the thing that stood out to me though was the pumpkin spice soup.  It was so creamy and full of flavor with faint hints of nutmeg and cinnamon.  It was awesome.  I wish that they would serve it year round...  But I guess not too many people want to eat soup in the summer time.  I am already looking forward to the next time that I head up to North Northern California, because I will be stopping here!

We had dinner there last night.  It was in a kind of strange location -- next to the railroad tracks, underneath an overpass -- and looked a little bit like a freshly-painted dive from the outside, but it had windows and cars in the lot, so we went ahead and gave it a try.

The wait staff was abundant and friendly, and the food came out fairly quickly, considering that we showed up at the same time as several other parties.

The dipping sauce was good, yes.  I had a salad, and it had a variety of greens and some feta cheese, but you know those stupid Romaine lettuce stems that you get stuck with?  The ones in this salad were brown along the edges and wilty.  I'd guess the salad came out of a bag.  It was edible, as edible as those stems can be anyway.  The house dressing helped, I'm sure.

I had the Tuscan steak, and it was, indeed, very good.  The price was reasonable, with the bill for two of us just at $40 -- which was actually cheaper than our lunch with our daughter last week at Chevy's, and much quieter, etc.

They've got concrete floors that have been painted in spots with art -- like there was a painting of a cat on the bathroom floor, for instance.  Unfortunately, these have all been walked on plenty, and they're all worn off and part-missing.  So it makes the interior look sort of old and tacky in a way.  Meanwhile, the wait staff was all dressed in matching cotton outfits with the long aprons and the whole bit.  So it was kind of cognitively dissonant.

I'd go back some time if I want a longer, quiet meal with my better half, especially if we were going to seriously make a romantic evening out of it, and have some wine, etc.  Unfortunately, we live in Hayfork, so there's a 2-hour drive after dark to get home.  Not condusive to lingering evening meals in Redding.  But I'd definitely go back again sometime.

    The Summary:
Nice compact and slightly elegant restaurant with amazing service but food that is mediocre at best.  I ate there for lunch and had the chicken parm and Ministrone.

    The Background:
This restaurant has a nice compact feel to it.  On one hand, the restaurant part feels almost elegant and romantic.  On the other, it looks like it's situated as a truck stop with half the restaurant being the kitchen and viewable as you enter.   Parking is in a pretty small lot just outside but when I was there, it seemed like it was more than enough room for all the guests.

    The Positives:
The service here is ridiculously amazing.  My server, a nice woman named Connie, was absolutely amazing and helpful.  She went out of her way to be helpful and when I mentioned that I was lactose intolerant, she went to the chef to figure out what had lactose in it and tried to prepare things without it.  As a footnote, their dipping sauce which has herbs (which I thought was a nice touch) along with the traditional vinaigrette and olive oil also contains some cream.  Also, when I mentioned I was carrying truffles in my car, she offered me some ice to keep them cold when I left the restaurant.

    The Negatives:
The food left a lot to be desired.  While the dipping sauce was nice due to the herb seasoning, the rest of the meal could have been more flavorful.  I started with the Minestrone which although quite rich in various veggies and beans, was incredibly bland.  There was almost no flavor in the soup.  As for the main course, the Chicken Parm, it came out burnt and, well, yet again, quite bland.  The sauce itself was pretty decent though.

My friend and I came here for a girl's night out, and it was really really good.

I had been here once before with my husband, but I don't remember much about it. I remember liking it, but it was about 3 years ago...

    Anyway -

The bread and dip you get to start off is very yummy. Nothing extraordinary, but good.

My friend and I shared the spinach artichoke dip appetizer. It was very good - but they don't give you much of it. I was a little disappointed with that. But it was probably for the better since I had more room for my wonderful dinner.

I ordered their special, which was an artichoke and brie stuffed halibut with some sort of sauce on top served with risotto. It was delicious. And since I was very hungry (being that our app was so small) I ate nearly the whole meal.

For dessert we shared a piece of yummy cheesecake with caramel and chocolate sauce drizzled over the top. Yummmm.

The prices are fairly high, but the food is good quality and great flavors. My only problem with the food was the small appetizer.

The atmosphere is very nice. They do cram in a lot of tables, but it didn't bother me. It was kind of weird that they stuck my friend and I at a table smack dab in the middle of the room when there were available tables on the edges....but of course those tables sat 4 and we were only 2. Whatever. No big deal to me, but I can see how some people would really have a problem with it.

Our service was good. (When I say good, I mean that nothing bad happened. I actually don't really remember our server. If I don't remember what the service was like, to me that means it was good. I never wanted for anything or wondered where our server was, etc. If I remember service I received that means it was either really good, or really bad.)

Overall I would say that this place is an excellent choice for a nice Italian dinner. It is a little pricey (IMO) but for a special occasion it is a great choice.

Great italian place, the food is pretty good, the one knock I have is the way they've crammed the tables into that restaurant. I know they are normally packed, so it's an attempt to facilitate more patrons, but if you get one of those tables in the hall near the toity between the two "rooms" you'll constantly feel in the way.

I LOVE Gironda's!! My B/F took me here on our first date and it sure wasn't the last!! We are regulars(now) and its by far one of our favorite places to eat here in Redding!!
I usually have the Tuscan steak but one night I tried the Seafood Risotto and it was VERY good!!
The wait staff have alwaysbeen friendly and on top of it!!
We are still "regulars" of Gironda's and my only complaint is that I wish it was bigger so we don't have to wait as long to get a seat...:)

I showed up in Redding, starving and in need of some serious Italian food.  Gironda's had a huge vegetarian menu: 4 different kinds of ravioli, polenta, pizza, salads, and lasagna.  Portions were certainly enough for 2, if not three, and the staff practically fell all over themselves to make us feel welcome even though we showed up 15 minutes before they closed.

The salad that came before the polenta was huge and full of very fresh lettuce/veggies.  The polenta was slathered in home made chunky red sauce and surrounded by a bed of creamy spinach.

And if that was not enough they tried to entice us with lip-smacking deserts including triple layer chocolate cake.

Amazing staff and great food make this place 5 stars.  My only complaint is that they do not have a Bay Area location.

When we went to Girondas expecting a nice dinner and evening we had mixed feelings after our time here..  The staff  were in my opinion very short tempered..  It was clear they were haveing issues when we came in  but  after reading this review and others on the net, I wonder if they ALWAYS have issues.... We where left alone far to often and waited to many times for simple things like a drink refill..  The bread and olive oil vinegar dip was really good, you can get a good copy of it in Safeway stores. ..  My husband ordered some ravioli  and his was swimming in water when it arrived .. EWW..  My dinner was very bland..  I would have had a better dinner at Olive Garden and paid a lot less too..

We left feeling the meal was to expensive for what we got and felt the staff could have been a WHOLE lot nicer..... We will not be back .

Just o.k. The tables feel a little tight. Two times for dinner, when the salads arrived, the dressing must have been sitting on the lettuce all day. YUCK. Hey, I gave them a second shot at it.
    Enough said.

I was in Redding for a business trip and decided to try Gironda's based on the reviews here.  Perhaps it just wasn't their night, but it's been awhile since I've been let down so much by a restaurant.

Let's start with the good stuff... walking in, I was greeted quickly, seated, and offered the wine list.  The atmosphere was cozy but elegant, and the service was prompt.

However, the waitress offered the Seafood Risotto as one of the evening's specials, which sounded pretty good.  I was brought a plate of the most boring focaccia I've seen in awhile with a plate of olive oil and balsamic vinegar and told it was freshly baked that day.  If so, it must have been early that morning, cut up, and left out because the bread was bland, stale and dry.  The oil and vinegar were both flavorless

Then the risotto arrived.  This was actually prepared pretty well... it was rich and creamy, chock full of seafoody goodness.  My only issue with the risotto was that it was all cool to lukewarm.  I debated whether to send it back, but I was hungry and in a hurry.  However, kudos to the chef - other than being slightly on the bland side, it looks like it was prepared well.  That I even gave this place two stars is based on the work of the chef.

The one thing that bothered me the most about Gironda's was the attitude of the wait staff.  Not that there was anything rude about it, but just that snarkiness that occasionally comes with dining alone - it was on overdrive at this place.  I'm also not sure if they're required to say this, but as I was leaving, the waitress told me that in the future, they have a drive-through.  It was just such an off-putting remark as I was leaving.  I'm not in the habit of writing negative reviews, but no thanks, Gironda's.  I won't be back.

I just had lunch from Gironda's recently added "Jimmy G's Drive Thru". The menu had several options including: sandwiches, salads, pizza and itialian sodas.

Good price and good food! Only complaint I could have was that the drive thru wait was alittle long but all the food was fresh so that made up for it.

Great food, great service, and absolutely adorable decor.  Try anything pesto here, and make sure to have some wine too!

One downside is that it tends to get crowded, so be prepared for a wait or make reservations!
