While camping up in Franconia Notch we drove around looking for breakfast and came across the junction. There were a decent amount of cars in the parking lot which, to me, is a good indication so we stopped in. It is a nice, railroad themed restaurant where there is a couple of model trains chugging around the boundaries of the ceiling and plenty of photos to gaze at. The food was good but nothing spectacular. The reason for the lost stars is the place is much too overcrowded. They have packed seats into every square inch of the place. Booth seats are cool but the tables leave you always checking if your gonna hit someone, even if you lift your fork for a bite. But the experience was pleasant enough that I would go back again, sometime in the future.
Review Source:This wasn't the best restaurant but not the worst either. Breakfast was good and large servings, although the waitress was slow as the place was packed. The best part of the restaurant is the train that goes around the ceiling. Great stop if you are in the area and need to kill an hour or 2 waiting for an activity. I love that they serve breakfast all day and you can get it to go. Â The variety is great and it's a cute country looking restaurant which I really like. Â The pancakes are some of the best i've had they taste really different then other places (In a good way!) especially the chocolate chip kind MmMMmmM :)
Review Source:This place is great for an American experience! Â They have an old school menu, complete with a BLT burger thing that is a must for any gourmand! Â The L gauge railroad running about and attentive service are nice touches.
And yes, they get busy! Â If there is a line, go for a hike, work up an appetite and come back!
Place was excellent. Â The place was packed and we only waited 10 minutes. Â They have a waiting room with toys an a arcade to keep the kids busy. Â Once seated, staff was very friendly and helpful. Very kid friendly!!! Â Food was out in literally 10 mins from our order and was very very good. Â Great breakfast! Â Took the kids to the bathroom and they were very clean as well. Â Highly recommended!
Review Source:This place was excellent. Â The food was great! My kids had pancakes and French toast and it was terrific. Â I had hashbrown fries, egg, toast and cornbeef hash which were delicious! Â The waitress was wonderful. Â We had a party of 9 and she was so efficient. Â Prices are very reasonable!
Review Source:The best breakfast you will ever have. Everything thing was absolutely delicious. The waitress was super nice and even climbed over the booth just to deliver the food! I love the train theme too. It is a restaurant that is a good family tradition to start. And from seeing my cousins faces after their meal I knew we must go back!
Review Source:Wow! What an awesome place to bring little train enthusiast! Model trains ride along the ceiling!
The food is a bit pricey, but average breakfast-fare. The place was packed and the service was friendly. Not a place I would crave, but also would return if I was looking for a hot meal. My husband grinned ear-to-ear remembering his and our youngest sons childhood love of trains. Definitely would return if I had a young, train enthusiast with me!
This is a good restaurant for people with young children because of the trains. Â Our toddler was really excited about the trains. Â She'd been overtired from a day at Storyland, but perked right up and even ate something.
I will confirm the previous comments that the service is pretty friendly and efficient. Â The reason for the low rating is the food. Â I started with a taco salad that was absolutely disgusting. Â It was 3 parts onion to 2 parts lettuce and the chili on top of it tasted like it came from a can and was heated up in a microwave. Â Based on the texture, I strongly suspect that it was recycled hash from breakfast that morning. The waitress got a little defensive when I sent it back (I just told her that it was oniony and that I didn't care for it), but she offered me something new. Â I got a sandwich instead. Â The sandwich was fine, if nothing special, but at least they didn't charge us for the inedible salad. Â My husband reported that his burger was pretty good. Â I had a taste of my daughter's chicken fingers, which were fine. Â So the sum is that the service is decent and the food is ok as long as you don't order the taco salad.
Not a huge fan of the breakfast here! The staff is always friendly enough and they have a pretty big dining area so the waits aren't too bad. My biggest problem is the home fries taste like french fries. I HATE that. I know some people are a big fan of this, I am just not one of them. I want my home fries to taste like well, home fries. I will save my french fries for lunch thank you.
Review Source:My girlfriend absolutely loves this place, but the rest of us that went last Sunday (2/19/2012) weren't that impressed. The pancakes were far too oily/greasy. The ham was very sweaty and the bacon just wasn't that good either. The home fries were excellent though. There isn't much for breakfast selection in this area, so it's good enough that we'll probably go back every now and then.
Peaches in North Conway is far superior to this.
The serve their signature pancakes with a spread that's 4% butter, 44% vegetable oil and 52% water. Â Yeah, I could believe it wasn't butter. Â For the life of me I don't know why. Â Just penny pinching I guess. Â
The pancakes are kinda meh, thin and crispy around the edges, and cooked in some kind of oil... I assume it's not butter or they'd have shared it. Â The other breakfast fare is OK, but heavy and salty for a day that's going to be spent in the sun at a theme park. Â
We've treid this place twice, but next time we'll seek out something lighter.
This is the ultimate kid zone... unless you have kids I recommend finding somewhere else for breakfast. Â I guess they have a train that runs around the top of the restaurant, I didn't notice until we were leaving and people were trying to take pictures but I'd imagine if you were a kid this would be amazing.
Home fries were pretty good, my boyfriend actually loved them but I wouldn't write home about them. Â All in all the food was good but like I said if you have kids great place to go, you'll fit right in, if you don't have kids and a low tolerance for screaming babies you might want to steer clear. Â
There was actually roaming children walking around watching people eat while we were there, I kid you not.
Great place for breakfast in the White Mountain area!! Perfect for families and children. Â They will love the train going around on the track!! Prices are great and the food is too!! Get here early it is every popular in the summer time with families before they go to Story Land which is right up the street! Also serves lunch and has a big gift shop attached!
Review Source:I'll admit we went here on a holiday weekend (4th of July), on a Sunday at 12pm... it was reallyyy crowded but we were seated promptly and the service was much faster than I'd anticipated.
We started with an app of mozzarella sticks.. I then ordered a cheese omelet with home fries and the bf ordered the 'double dog deluxe' which was just two hot dogs & fries. The mozzarella sticks were good but the marinara sauce tasted like it was store-bought or frozen, ick. My omelet was okay, kind of difficult to mess up a cheese omelet though and the home fries were way too salty and I love salt so that says something. The bf's hot dogs looked... interesting (see pic) he said he wouldn't get them again but the fries were good.
drinks were refilled promptly, which was surprising because our waitress looked so overwhelmed you would think she was the only one working the entire restaurant. our entire bill was just over $30 which was a bit pricey in my opinion.
after leaving we agreed that we'd go back next time we were in the area, but we'd both order something else. so choose wisely!
This place is very organized.  They are only open until afternoon but serve breakfast  until close.  The kids liked it and the prices are good.  I got an omelet with bacon, sausage and ham inside.  The sausage are the little balls you find on pizza, boo!  so you may want to avoid that.  Anyway, its a good place to stop before Storyland without breaking the bank.
Review Source:if you want screaming kids to go along with your eggs...this is the place for you. Â i stopped here with two friends after a camping trip. Â it is a great spot to come to if you have children- but if you want a quiet/kid free meal...i would go somewhere else. Â the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either...and it's expensive for breakfast. Â i'm sure there's got to be a better place out there
Review Source:The best breakfast I've ever had! Â My husband and I have been going there for years. Â I sometimes plan the trip to N. Conway just so I can get eat at this restaurant. Â (A 2 1/2 hour trip.)
While everything on the menu is good, the pancakes are indescribable! Thin and crispy like a crape, but with the flavor of a pancake. Â They won't give me the recipe and we can't seem to recreate it at home. Â You can even get a side of pancakes which is great for when I feel like eating something a little more savory.
I would give them more than 5 stars if it was possible!
We've stopped here for breakfast both years we've made the trip up to the area and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. Â Friendly staff, electric trains running near the ceiling to keep the kids (okay, and me) entertained, and terrific food. Â Their home fries are probably the best I've ever tasted... there's a little kick of spiciness in there, but they're kind of sweet, too. Â I probably won't get back there until next spring, but I'm definitely looking forward to it already.
Review Source:"The train restaurant" as my husband calls it, is a good place to stop in for breakfast. Â It was quite crowded (as would be expected on a Saturday morning) but we were seated quickly. Â Our waitress was friendly & quick to refill my drink (without my even asking).
The omlettes are massive -- coming with toast & "train fries" (home fries). Â They have quite the selection, but I decided to build my own with Swiss, green peppers & onion. Â It was delicious & filling & way cheesier than I had anticipated.
It's a pretty comfortable place & has electric toy trains running around the top (so as to entertain the kiddies)... great for a quick bite or bringing the whole family.
