This has become a customary haunt when in Longview and the craving for Chinese rears it's head. Â Longview is somewhat limited in restaurant choices, so at this point in my life where I refuse to waste a calorie unless I like what I'm eating, I make sure it's worth it. I've tried several items on the menu and so far, as an appetizer, I always move toward the Barbecued Pork. Â The price point on the fried won tons is a bit high, the pot stickers are big and clumsy to eat and they take forever on this item because it's made from scratch, so your meal could easily be cooked before this appetizer is finished being made. Â Egg rolls, well...mine were greasy and the flavor wasn't there, paper wrapped chicken...eh...I haven't had the steamed Bou yet, but I'm generally not a huge fan of Chinese seamed buns.
It seems we always start with their sizzling rice soup. Â It's honestly the best sizzling rice soup in Longview and really hits the spot. Â A small order more than covers 2 people. Â I would guess that easily there is enough for 4 servings in the small size.
The beef with oyster sauce is quite tasty. Â I've tried a couple other beef dishes here and have decided this is my favorite. Â From the seafood menu, I have found that the honey walnut shrimp is actually quite good. Â I tried the Moo Goo Gai Pan...not a fan. Â So I suppose you might say that the entrees are hit and miss with some items that shine in areas of flavor and freshness. Â Portions are respectable and there is always plenty to take home at the end of my meal.
This is 4-stars for Longview, 3 stars or any major city. Â
Despite other reviews, the place is not claustrophobic. Â Big windows in front. Â Decent Chinese Decor - doesn't feel divey. Â Pleasant attentive service (although on Monday night at 7 place was not crowded at all). Â We've had better being spoiled by Shanghai Garden in Issaquah, WA where we live but this place seemed solid. Â Their food is definitely saltier than your average Chinese but less sweet too. Â I stuffed myself and was eating a Sundae at McDonalds 30 min later. Â Maybe too much MSG too or something? Â Tasted good though except for slightly to salty. Â Hot & Sour Soup was SPICY, made my nose run (and I love spice). Â Mo-Pa Tofus with spicy meat sauce was delicious (and not that spicy!) Â Mu Shu Pork - check. Â Chicken Chow Mein - check. Â $50 for family of 4 with 2 beers and a wine. Â Check. Â Portions were average so I'd say average value here.
The only snafu is that they didn't understand we couldn't take the leftovers as we had not fridge in our hotel so I think they were thought we didn't like the food. Â Turn down the salt a little and this place is a solid as opposed to a weak 4 stars.
Golden Palace Restaurant & Lounge, we went here to your restaurant for dinner. Â Saturday August 28th 2010. Â Saw this restaurant while Googling a place to have dinner. Â Heard it was in town for almost 20 years. Â Golden Palace Restaurant & Lounge is located by the corner of 14th Ave and Hudson St. Â Man this place its indeed JAM PACKED with lots of patrons. Â Perhaps it was the weekend. Â Perhaps is this the One and Only Szechuan and Cantonese restaurant in town. Â Perhaps so.
The decor is "SO Grand" as if you are dining in a Palace. Â With golden linen table and red clothe napkins. Â The ceiling is filled with Chinese lanterns and the walls decorated with Chinese paintings. Â We were seated promptly. Â The waitstaffs gave us the menu, with the tea in a pot, water and small little cups for our tea without us asking. Â Is this a norm practice? Â Perhaps so. Â The menu is endless. Â Many to choose. Â Where to begin?? Â Anyways, since it was a Szechuan Cantonese restaurant, I ask the waitstaff if they have one of the dish I was eyeing for. Â Unfortunately, this restaurant does not offer. Â Oh well..
Anyways we opt for these :
* Â Fried Wan Tons
* Â Hubs order was the Combo #3 that contains the Cashew Chicken Chow Mein, Sweet & Sour Chicken and Fried Rice
*  My order was Mandarin Fried Squid with Hot Sauce  These are strips of squid breaded and deep fried in spicy mandarin sauce over crispy rice noodles.
Our dishes were not as spicy as we requested for. Â Though it has the flavor just nice and Hubs did not expect his dish to be served the way it was. Â We have leftovers and decide to have to go boxes. Â Hubs and I rate this place 3.5 stars. Â We dont mind going back to this restaurant if we are in Kelso/Longview, WA. Â Perhaps I would be more adventurous to order things "unfamiliar" for me. Â Perhaps the SPICY the better?? Â I hope so.

The best Chinese food Longview has ever had. The menu is large and all items are delicious. The general tso's is my absolute favorite there. Lunch specials are delicious and affordable. The staff is super efficient and very kind. The bar makes some stiff drinks. have fun, but please be careful.
