After visiting the wine store next door, we decided we needed sustenance before getting back on our long vehicular journey.

Good Times Tavern is sort of the rural southern equivalent of a NY diner? Most of the restaurant was booths or small tables and they had a basic menu (burgers, sandwiches, etc.) and a very small buffet. It looks like it has seen some years but certainly wasn't dirty or anything.

My bacon cheeseburger was well cooked and the hushpuppies were good, if not a bit overly crispy and fried. The pulled pork sandwich was dry before adding some table condiments but was otherwise good.

As my food was being brought out (not when I first ordered), the waitress asked me, unprompted, if I've ever eaten a hushpuppy before.

Who was she to assume that I was some sort of northern gentry? Can a southerner not read the New York Times, learn a Connecticut accent and play Candy Crush while wearing a foot-long gold star of David? I guess we'll never know.

Good stop off, right after the winery. The place is reasonably clean and homey. The staff was pleasant. I thought the food was fine. A selection of fried fish, shrimp, hushpuppies, and oysters if they are in season. Don't expect much, it's a diner. It does the trick when there's nothing much else to select from in the vicinity.

Note: this is located at the intersection of Broad & Hwy 64

This review is for the dining side of the establishment, "Carolina Crossing".

Went on a Friday night and, having been there once, I am baffled as to why the place was full.  Sure the place was reasonably clean and the staff was efficient & pleasant... but the food was simply awful.

Everyone was eating fried fish... flounder, trout, shrimp, oysters... so my gf tried the flounder.  All the items must arrive frozen and are fried in the same oil so there is a blandness/sameness.  Her side of yams was more like a chunky soup with unpleasantly strong cinnamon seasoning, and the other mac & cheese side had some chunks of soggy, fatty bacon and a strong artificial smoke flavor.  At $13, I would expected better.

I'm allergic to shellfish so had to avoid anything fried... I went with the BBQ pork sandwich.  Bleah!  Grey, flavorless pork pulp on a soft bun.  Tried to save it with some hot sauce or additional BBQ sauce but nothing could avoid that mushmouth feeling that I was eating something that had already been chewed.

Needless to say, while I might visit the town of Columbia again, I'll definitely plan on a drive over to Edenton or Manteo for a bite to eat.
