My little brother was visiting Holland to look at hope college and we arrived late to the city. Â This was a welcome surprise as their burgers were delicious. Â The service was also very good and the price was just right. Â I'm not sure when I'll be back to Holland but this would be a place that I'd go to again especially since they had a huge menu with all sorts of different foods.
Review Source:I've been here a few times with family and have always enjoyed the experience.
If you're a dainty eater the burgers here are not probably the right choice for you since they are very large. Â If they were any larger I personally would not consider ordering them since I feel if I can't get a normal bite out of one they're just not worth it. Â The burgers here are quite tasty and I would recommend them.
When I was here a few nights ago I had the smelt dinner. Â The smelt itself was good (not great, but good) and it came with fries and coleslaw. Â The best part of that particular meal was the coleslaw! Â I loved it.
I noticed that on the menu they have a BBQ chicken pizza and I love a good BBQ pizza so I'll have to try that next time.
Without exception every time I've been in here the service has been very friendly and professional.
As far as the pricing goes it's slightly on the pricier side, but still reasonable even for a natural cheapskate like me. Â Stop in and check this place out and odds are you'll become a regular too!
Ick... slow service, greasy food made with cheap ingredients, tacky sports stuff all over the walls (Yes, I get it- you're a sports bar, but it's WAY overdone), dirty floors/walls, crappy beer selection, awful floor plan layout. Â I've eaten here three times, and was disappointed each time in the quality of the food. Â Piling three pounds of french fries on a sandwich order doesn't make it good. Â I really don't see the appeal in this place, except maybe for the folks who have never been outside of Holland, MI.
Review Source:After recently moving back to West Michigan, I have a number of restaurants on my list that I'd like to revisit. Some because the food is outstanding, others because they're cultural icons that simply must be visited. Â
Since we're in Holland for a couple of weeks, and I was ready for a good burger, I knew our first meal out at a restaurant would be at Goog's. Â The meal did not disappoint. Â Put simply, this is consistently the best burger I've eaten. Â It is the best of everything I look for in a burger, and they get it right time and time again.
I branched out this time, and went for the "Fred Burger". Â This was on my bucket list, simply because of the strange toppings. Â A burger with peanut butter and onions? Sounds weird, but I trusted the waitress, and went for it. Â It was very good. Â Good enough to order every time? No. But certainly tasty and the flavors worked well together. Â
The onion rings were a good way to start, but not as good as Russ' onion rings. Â I paid for that decision later that night though...too much greasy food in one sitting.
My wife had the quesadilla which was surprisingly good, and my son had the chicken tenders, which were by far the best I've sampled. Â The breading had a good spice blend, and the chicken was fresh and juicy. Â The beer prices were great, and I'll certainly return (on occasion though, so as to avoid a heart attack.)
You know, it's probably the best burger I could ask for in Holland, MI. It's in a really weird area, though. There's also some "cultural color" across the street with the "New Vision" church, and they have an eyeball as a logo on their sign. Like something out of "Videodrome". So, I would say that if you were on a tour of "fringe churches/houses of worship", you can get a decent burger at Goog's.
Review Source:Wanted a quick date out with the wife on a Friday night. I think we got the last open table. The place seems tight, but comfortable. Good choice of beers on draft, and interesting menu. I got the pot roast sandwich was very tasty, my wife had the panini. The homemade chips were good, but I'd pick a different side next time. Check came to $26, and we will definitely be back.
Review Source:Want the best bar food you have ever had? Â They have these amazing homemade potato chips with melted cheese, blue cheese and bacon. Â Dip those puppies in Ranch. Â Amazing. Â This is the heart attack food I have dreams of. Â The burgers rocked too! Â If you're on a diet - don't go here. Â If you're splurging and want something worth the fat content, put Goog's food in your mouth!
Review Source:Okay so it's always kind of crowded, which is a good sign. I took my mother here because she and i both like to meet up and have our first gabfest at some folksy bar and grill and this didn't disappoint. The first night was packed so we sat at the bar and the bartender was all-business and was so fast she kinda messed up my drink and it was rum instead of bourbon. So she kindly traded it out for a dirty martinin and we weren't charged. Then the menu. Pizza, burgers, fish (fried) and some mexican stuff but we were in the mood for fish so I had cod fish n chips with fries and tiny scoop of coleslaw. Hey by then we were buzzed on the powerful cheap ($under5) drinks and everything was tasty. Waitrons were extremely friendly and efficient. Second time was more a burger trip and I ordered a veggie version but my friend ordered an olive burger. Holy cow i ate more of his than mine and i had a maker's mark + diet and and he had a beer. The place is decorated with Detroit Tigers memorabilia and autographed photos of players from the 80s mostly and they all had the same moustache. It was a great casual meal away from the beach crowd totally - and tourists. Very good food and so cheap that our tab was a shock after the other meals we'd had in the area that were not as real deal and good as Goog's. We'll be back or at least I will - over and over this summer.
Review Source:Goog's is a great little sports pub with a varied menu. Â They have a great selection of sandwiches and salads, including items such as a delicious pot roast. Â However, the real highlight of the menu has to be the burgers. Â These burgers are big, and they are very good. Â I've had most of them so far, and there is a great variety. Â From standard burgers, to mushroom burgers, and to even more unusual burgers such as the Fred burger (a burger with peanut butter and raw onions), these half-pounders are cooked however you like. Â There are many good drinks, too. Â The place can be a little noisy and crowded, however. Â Nevertheless, it's well worth a visit.
Review Source:On a family adventure, we stumbled upon this place due to it being next our hotel(read that review). Â Upon entering it was filled with sports paraphernalia, and a wholesome feeling. Â The food was OK, but the service was excellent. Â Our waitress was quick and on point! Â Kind and cute the young lady helped me and my family eat well and end the night full & happy. Â My portabella burger was again OK, so to say come here for the best burger u ever had is a stretch, but you should stop in ( if u can find it) for the atmosphere. Â Clearly this place will be around for a long time; and with decent food, awesome service and a huge menu. Â Goog's is a cool place to be and a decent eatery for the Holland area!
Review Source:Goog's is a great place for burgers - they cook them to temp so if you want it med rare, they will serve it that way. Â The burgers are super juicy so you may want to ask for extra napkins - they provide you with the rolled up nylon/polyester ones that don't soak up the grease - just a warning! Interior could use a litte attention, but hey, it is what it is....
The fries are really good too.
Ignore the rest of the menu because you go to Goog's for the burgers. Â My favorite burger is the Fred Burger. Â Peanut butter and onions, plus I get bacon on it also. Â Strange combination, but extremely delicious. Â The staff is usually friendly and we've never had a long wait, even if the place was busy. Â They also had leinenkugel's summer shandy this summer so bonus points for that. Â But seriously, try the Fred Burger, it's worth the weirdness.
Review Source:This interesting little pub has great food. The drinks are a little lacking. But I can live with that. The have a bunch of burgers, some really unusual ones as well as the classics, which are there specialty. We have had the Hawkeye Burger and the Greek Burger so far and really enjoyed them both. We have also had the Chicken Caesar Pizza, which was wonderful. We will definitely be back.
Review Source:We sought shelter at Googs after we checked into the Days Inn and were thoroughly repulsed, see below. We got there at 9:30pm, and they closed at 10:00pm. We were starving from riding about 8 hours on a Harley, we asked if we still had time to get food. The charming bartender stared at the clock, then us, then the clock, and said, fine - we close at 10. There were a few patrons seated at this small, den-like bar with us. We grabbed a draft beer, and ordered wings. During our wait, the bartender shut off pretty much every light and TV, smoked a few cigarettes and prepared drinks for the rest of the staff. When she served us our food, we had about 6 minutes til 10, so we chowed down. We got our check in advance, paid, and continued scarfing. As the heartburn set in, she told us, hey no rush, I have to wait for the kitchen to be cleaned so I'll be here awhile. Really? The food was actually pretty good, the place was dank, and the help looked like they belonged in upstate Wisconsin. Wouldn't recommend it, but if you have no other choice, the food is not bad.
Review Source:I was a bit worried when we pulled in at lunch time on a Saturday and there were almost no cars there - we were thinking that it must not be that good. Â I'm glad we decided to give it a try anyway. Â When you walk in, it's like walking into a sports shrine. Â Or every guy's dream basement/rec room. Â They've got autographed pictures of hundreds of sports stars that you've heard of, and many that you haven't, blanketing the walls. Â
They have a fairly big menu, including several(25?) different and creative burger options. Â I was a bit disappointed that the beer selection was so limited (~4 taps, none really to my liking), and I initially thought the prices were a bit high (almost $8 for a sandwich). Â However, the portions more than justified the price, and the food was excellent(though a bit heavy!)
Our service was ok - efficient, quick, knowledgeable but not overly friendly. Â
What was, for us, a place to stop for a quick bite can easily become a destination for a tasty and pretty filling meal.
I'd go back, though for the food not the beer selection.
