The food was great but the service was horrible. Â It was slow inside and we waited for 8 minutes at the bar to pay. Â The bartender asked how our meal was and if we were done. Â We said yes and he walked away. Him and two employees talked while we were ignored. Â We almost just left without paying. Â We should have.
Review Source:Arriving late (ie anytime after 930pm) in Kings Beach and this is your only option. Â Great bar with super service, fish tacos and grilled cheese were just what the six hour drive from the Bay Area demanded. Â Decent beer on tap and table top games you can play if the TV's don't interest you. And yes the grid fries are worth the trip
Review Source:The Good: Plenty of seating
the Bad: No dance floor, wall jukebox
The Ugly: Late night snacks that may be poisonous
I came here last friday expecting a jolly good time and plenty of people. What I got was a hot as shit room with some weird alien movie on the TV (with Demi Moore) I was instantly put off. There were about 6 other people in the bar not including us. I guess I had been expecting something a bit different because I thought there was going to be music and dancing and that is my idea of a good time. But no. It was sitting in a 90degree room with shitty pizza watching some horror movie... hmmm.
The Grid is a great addition to Kings Beach.
If sunshine isn't your thing and gambling leads to trouble, than this dank sports bar is for you! Of course there's also a back patio that's a little more appropriate for a sunny day.
We stopped by for lunch, and it was solid. They offer a gardenburger for the non-meat eaters, and waffle fries that were a nice change up from your standard fries. Quality beer selection, friendly servers... a solid lunch all around.
I've never gone back for late night partying, but it seems like a place that is popular with the locals. Perhaps one day I shall return.
I can't imagine how this place got a four star rating. Where to start - the $10 burger was obviously made with a frozen patty (outside burnt, inside RED, not pink, but RED) and was about one step short of completely inedible... actually, it was inedible, considering I could only eat about one third of it around the edges where it was actually cooked. It was sloppy as hell and over priced. The bar was disgustingly dirty, I had to wipe it down myself twice just to stop sticking to it. The bartender was friendly, but seemed tremendously distracted and was very slow to help with things - this was with a total of three customers in the place at noon, by the way.
The only saving grace to that meal was the actual grid fries with garlic, cilantro and jack cheese. Those are pretty good - though they actually put too much cheese on them, and I love cheese. But it was to the point where it was like one big ball of cheese and potato with some garlic and cilantro thrown on.
But, it gets better... I went back about a week later with my wife at lunch. This time about 12:30. Place was even more filthy than the first time, and that's saying something. We decided to split a cheese pizza, supposedly made from scratch. Yeah, made from scratch in a factory somewhere would be my guess. If it was homemade, they must be using the cheapest canned sauce and bagged cheese they could buy. Even the coffee in that place doesn't taste right, and it came in a dirty glass.
Honestly, I would give it one star, but that bartender was a nice guy and the fries I might go back for as a snack some time... I just wouldn't go there for any real food.
Full Disclosure: I haven't been there in the evening, it may have a better cook at night or something... I can only hope.
Walking along the road near Kings Beach at 10:00 reveals a sleepy street. The sidewalk is just about rolled up and I'm finding nothing. Then I hear some drums and an electric guitar. It sounded promising. I got closer and ran into some people on the street who recommended it. I'm glad I did. Great people, fun bar, live music and some really good late night grub pizzas. It doesn't get too much better than that.
Review Source:We loved this place. My bfriend thought his Angus burger was the best ever! My "slider" burger tasted really good but it was just a regular burger ripped up into three. Normally that kind of thing would upset me, but this place is so laid back and friendly that it put me in a good mood and I didn't care that my slider wasn't really a slider.
The biggest reason why I love this place is their honest service. My bfriend somehow left his iphone and expensive sunglasses sitting on the table. We left, went to have ice cream, strolled along the beach, until he realized he didn't have his two items. When I called, the waitress had the items saved for us. We picked them up and there was no problem.
I really appreciated the honest customers and staff. The customers seem like their local and we felt like we were invading their private space just a bit but everyone was friendly and cool. (on a side note, there are so many ppl who smoke in Tahoe.. it was weird).
This place is laid back with good food. It's worth the visit.
We came on a sunny Sunday afternoon because they allow dogs on the patio.
45+ minute wait for fried fish tacos in grocery store flour tortillas, a burger king quality burger with cold fries, and a couple of short-poured beers in 14oz 'pint' glasses. Â With all respect to the other reviewers, fish tacos in (bad) flour tortillas (vs. corn), with lettuce (vs. cabbage), fried fish, and GRID SAUCE (a glop of 1,000 island variant)??? Â Ok, it's pub grub. Â
Being surrounded (at tables on either side) by a split party of six children and two parents who shouted across our table was just icing.
But we could have the pup on the patio.
Larry @ Big Valley Metal Detectors and I were hunting at Kings Beach.  Larry's Treat.  1 minute away is  the Grid.  Sat down and met the owner, Mike who runs the place with his brother.  We had the 1/2 lb Burger with famous Grid Waffle Fries, cooked Golden Brown and Delicious.
The Angus Beef was cooked Medium Rare like I like it. Â I found the Burger to be much better than the Char Pit down the road a ways who also offers a Tasty Burger but is usually over cooked. Â Â The atmosphere is superior to the Char Pit as well as much cleaner and not chaotic. Â Â Parking is easier. Â Outdoor Deck is
really nice for people watching.
Our server was none other than the beautiful Mellisa who was quite charming and offered an unlimited amount of Refills on our beverages. Â Â I assured Mike that I would return and did the next day with my son, Greg Jr. Â Â
Complaints: None
Recommendations: Although the Bun is quite good. I prefer a bit harder crust bun that does not fall apart easily due to all the condiments. Â Â Maybe even a Rye Toast like a Patty Melt. Â Â Â If I remember from last year, the Char Pit as a slight edge in the Bun Dept.
I would like to see the Boss offer Softy Ice Cream, but with a richer butter fat... I know it would sell. Â The Softies served at Char Pit lack that creamy flavor, more icey if you know what I mean...ugh.
The menu offers quite a selection including Cod if your not into a Hamburger.
Mike also promises his Jumbo Hot Dogs are Kosher and Delicious. Â
The Bar also has a subdued ambiance if you just want to relax and drink. Â Â
Move Over Char Pit, there's a NEW Sheriff in town and your #1 rating is
definitely challenged.
Stopped here for lunch not expecting anything special. Â I ordered their $5 special: a burger, waffle fries, AND a draft beer! Â The burger was generous and delicious, and the waffle fries were outstanding! Â On a beautiful day eating on the patio was as pleasant as could be! Â Highly recommended!
Review Source:Along with Jiffy's Pizza this is the only other place I HAVE TO hit up each time I go to Tahoe. The beers on tap are great, the burgers are AMAZING, the staff is warm and friendly, and the place is just cozy. I friggin LOVE IT. The price is just right too! I felt like we ate like kings for not too much $$
I am definitely coming back like ALWAYS :)
We were driving home and wanting something to eat and pulled into the grid. Wow! What a gem! The owner happened to be there with his family and were so gracious. We had the sliders and fish tacos. They were the bomb! We highly recommend this place for hearty food and it's so CHEAP!! Great food, great value.
Review Source:If you want strong, cheap drinks or just a cheap beer (plus barfood of course) and enjoy the dive bar atmosphere then this is the place, a true Tahoe local dive bar...right in the heart of Kings Beach.
The locals and servers are both very friendly. Not to mention the cute bartenders, who make some no non-sense drinks that are always made to your specifications and never watered down. Plus the daily specials and nightly events which make this more than just a one drink bar.
I recommend the $5.99 special during the weekdays from 12-4PM - Burger, Beer and Fries...you just can't go wrong, especially after hitting the slopes all day.
You aren't going to get 5 star resturant style food, but why would you be at a dive bar if you wanted a fancy dinner and drinks?
P.S. You can check in on facebook or the like when you come for a drink and you get a discount if you show the bartender...winning!
First night in Tahoe for my cabin trip and we went here for a quick bite. After yelping it, I thought it would be a cool place to go but man was a wrong. The stars might came from the bar part instead of the grill part.
Came in and there menus on the high square tables all over the room and a small bar with one bartender. We had a big groups pulled three of the table together found a couple extra stools and seated ourselves. We looked through the menu and the majority of the the items were burgers and sandwiches. They also had fish and chips, chicken tenders and wings. Once we know what we wanted, order and pay at the bar. The bartender was a little slow but it was a big group and I am pretty sure they were not expected a big crowd (hence only one bartender). She took our order and enter it in. We got seated and waited for our food to come out; it was about a 20 minute wait. It all came out at different times but then again our bartender took order in three's so the the food came out three at a time.
So the food was not that great at all. I was super hungry and you know how food taste better when your hungry? not the case here! I ordered the island burger, which had pineapples in it. I think they got my order wrong because they came out with two regular cheeseburger when our table only ordered one. So they just took that one back there and slabbed on a pineapple. Either way don't get it; it was super soggy the pineapple juice that taste like it came from the can. They didn't even grilled the pineapple! The fries are nothing special either; it's just regular thick cut fries that taste like they needed to change the oil to their deep fryer. My friends got other burgers that looked pretty good. Someone got the fish and chip and another got chicken tenders, which looked like they just bought it from some frozen box. I'm pretty sure my friend wasn't lying when they thought it "good" or "okay" but I am also sure that we could have had better. I mean I wouldn't want to go here again but if it's was the only place open, it is edible. Â It was such a disappointment.
Got to say the service is a little lackluster but I go into this place for one reason, an alcoholic beverage and a good game. Luckily I get both of those things most times so I forget about the service. The place is relatively new but seems to be sticking to their formula so I don't think we will be greeted with a hug and a smile anytime soon.
as far as kids I would say anything before the 6 maybe 7 o'clock hour should be good but it does get a little rambunctious as the night goes on.
First time I went and definitely will be the last. I was met with the misfortune of meeting a rather rude bartender. I was absolutely disgusted with the service that my group and I received. Not sure what the issue was, but the moment we entered the restaurant, the bartender gave us a sour look and snapped that my party was too large. Which was understandable because we had over 10 people. So we left and then made the decision to split the group up and only about half of us went back in to grab take-out. When the bartender was taking our orders, she did not smile and gave off this unwelcoming vibe that alone could kill my appetite. Moreover, she did not give proper change back at all. My Grid burger was $6.42 and I handed in $6.50. I waited for my change but she moved onto the next person without even giving me a second glance. I brushed it off because it was only 8 cents, but I found out later that other people also had the same thing happen to them. We waited for our food and while waiting, two girls randomly came up to us and said rather loudly, "Don't forget to tip the bartender!" which was confusing because we didn't get drinks or anything. Moreover, who in the world demands that others tip someone else? We would have gladly tipped her (even though she didn't exactly do much) out of courtesy, but to be told by these strangers to tip her... Finally, once we received the food, the bartender stated rather condescendingly, "Order's ready." We gave her the undeserved tip and booked it.
Now, I realize that there are perhaps several factors that could have led to all this. Perhaps the bartender was in a bad mood, or did not want to serve a large group due to being tired. However, we were so taken aback by the unpleasant attitude even though we hadn't done anything wrong.
It was disappointing to receive this sort of service because I was looking forward to enjoying some great food after a day of being out on the slopes.
It's a great casual place to have lunch and beer. We stopped by because dogs are allowed on the patio and our waitress took care of him with water and treats.
The Mozzarella Sticks were okay...nothing special...better to try other apps.
The Southwest Burger was great. Â Was topped with Roasted Peppers, Chipotle Sauce and Bacon... mmmm... good mix. The waitress also recommended the Pastrami Burger... must try next time.
Fish Tacos rocked!!!! 2 for $6. Order these as appetizer or main...
The Tahoe Creamery Ice Cream they served was also very good. We tried the Vanilla and Mudpie. My wife loved the vanilla...had good bean flavor and wasn't overly sweet. Â Mudpie was alright, I thought it was waaaay too sweet.
I wrote this review after several experiences at The Grid Bar and Grill during February and March of 2011, but neglected to finalize the post until today.
Very mediocre food. Reminiscent of middle school cafeteria lunch lady slop. Â This place isn't townie, it's dirt-ball, with wet t-shirt contests and all. Â State fair nachos and bratwurst highlighted disregard for quality of ingredients. Beer glasses were dirty. Service is s...l...o...w.
Went to this place because of the great reviews on here. Honestly? Don't really get the hype about it.
The Grid also has an outdoor seating area where supposedly you can get "short order" food (it's exactly the same as the sit-down menu). We snagged a table outside because the inside was stuffy. There was one lady who was waiting not only at the order window but also at the sit-down customers (us). I can't blame her for taking awhile to get to us, but really the owners should realize that they should have more of a wait staff, at least on a SUMMER afternoon at lunch time.
My brother got the grid burger combo which is 1/4 pound burger with fries and a drink. The fries were okay (if we ever were to go again I would get the Grid Fries instead- they look good and waffle shaped with an herb garnish). The waitress gave him a Sprite that was lukewarm and still in the can (not even a cup with ice). I didn't get a taste of the burger (my bro sharing anything but burdens? Fat chance.) but it has this thousand-island looking dressing. My brother described it as "like in-n-out but not as good".
My mom & I shared jalapeno poppers and fish tacos (my dad got fish tacos too). The poppers were pretty good, but I shouldn't have got it because I'm not a fan of sour cream.
Now the fish tacos are what totally saved the place. For those who want to know, the fish is lightly fried (and still delicious!). They're topped with guac (house-made, I hope...) and were delicious.
If you decide to go, prepare for meh service, AMAZING TACOS, and semi-fair prices.
The Grid is an awesome place to go when you get off work. The staff is friendly, the food is awesome, an the drinks are reasonably priced; especially for Tahoe prices. They have 16 oz PBR cans for 3 bucks. The tri-tip sandwich is awesome! They also have awesome DJs and live music regularly AND like 15 flatscreens to choose from for sports games. All in all great place to hang out, just wish they had a pool table.
Review Source:This place rocks, literally! Â The old Trade Winds dive bar was given new life when the Grid Took over...
By day, some of the best food in KB backed up with more tvs that you can shake a stick at. The breakfast burrito is especially awesome!
By night, the Grid becomes the rockinest rock steady joint on North Shore! Â Especially for those looking for great dj's and dancing til the wee hours...
Sundays are for football, you've been warned...
