I'm not a huge fan of sardine packed places and outrageously priced drinks but it's to be expected at a nice casino so I took my chance and went. The live band was AWESOME. They were well-rounded and very talented musicians. Staff was pretty nice too. My gripes lie with the line to get in, the massive crowd around you, having to fight your way to the bar for drinks, and the overall cost of a couple drinks but if this is the scene you are looking for then Gypsy bar is your place.
Review Source:My friends and I went here to see Split Decision play and for a "cover-free" night out in AC. The drinks were moderately priced and strong..I had 4 gin and tonics which were made perfectly and definitely got the job done! Â I liked the variety of beer they had, even though I didn't drink beer that night I did notice their selection. The atmosphere was very cool, laid back, and diverse. The bar was really crowded so we managed to sit down at a table where we got drink service. The waitress was very fast and accommodating, definitely the way to go if you don't want to fight for a drink at the bar. The staff including security at the front door and the bartenders were really nice and talkative. The only downside was the walk to the bathroom was located outside of the bar...however it was directly across from the entry way so it could have been WAY worse. We had a lot of fun! I would definitely go back regardless of whether or not there was live entertainment.
Review Source:The atmosphere in this bar kicks ass.
I really dig the live bands, cool lighting and overall vibe... it's the type of bar you don't want to leave. My wife and I missed about 30min of a concert at the entertainment center upstairs 'cause we were cool with just chillin here and listening to some tunes.
The prices for most drinks are pretty steep but well worth it in terms of quality and amount of liquor (bar maid may have been a heavy pourer perhaps)
Useful info : if your seeing any type of show upstairs at the entertainment center, their bar charges 7$ for a domestic beer in a small as hell Dixie cup (6oz-8oz if your lucky)
GP charges 6$ for 16oz and you have more than 2 beers to chose from.
Surprisingly good bar in the middle of The Borgata. Â
Great mix of people-bachelorette parties, 50 yr old men, 21 yr olds who are celebrating their birthday. Â No matter who you are (or what you look like) this bar is a place where you can fit in. Â
Being in The Borgata, it's always packed on Friday and Saturdays. They pretty much always have live music (cover bands) playing. The space is small and there tends to be a line outside to get in. If you're going, get there around 11ish to beat the line. Â
If you're not into clubs and looking for a great, not touristy bar then definitely check it out.
As my best friend's birthday celebration stretched into the night, we ventured into the Gypsy Bar for some more live music and adult beverages after the Hall & Oates show. Â Yeah, you heard me right...Hall & effin' Oates! Â The Gypsy Bar occupies a somewhat smallish space (especially considering it's a bar with live music) just off of the gaming floor. Â I'm not sure how it is on other Saturday nights, but the place was packed and we had to wait in a short line before being admitted. Â No doubt stretching the limits of its maximum capacity and the fire code, the one long bar just inside and to the right of the entrance was stacked three deep with people waiting for drinks. Â Unfortunately, only two bartenders (both attractive females with a rocker/biker chick thing going on) were behind the bar taking care of customers at the bar as well as the cocktail waitresses working the room. Â They could've used at least a third bartender and a bar back. Â Needless to say, service was a bit slow. Â The standard drink options were available, but given the crowd and task saturated bar staff, it was definitely a beer or a spirit + mixer kind of night. Â Drink prices were a bit pricey, but not unexpectedly so. Â The two bands featured this night were pretty decent cover bands. Â The second act, the conveniently named Gypsy Wisdom and its hot female lead singer with strong pipes, got the crowd going and was a lot of fun. Â I love live music and can appreciate a good cover band. Â The Gypsy Bar as a live music joint is good fun. Â The excessive wait for drinks? Â Much less fun and will hopefully result in more/better staffing on Saturday nights.
Review Source:I love this bar! They usually have live music and the bands they get are AMAZING! They are so lively and the crowd really takes advantage. It is such a fun atmosphere. People sing along to the music and dance, you end up having a really good night in this place. They also have really delicious mixed drinks.
Review Source:Two of my favorite things finally combined! Â If your best nights in college consisted of blaring rock music and polishing a bottle of Jose Cuervo, this is the place for you. Â Of course, this is at the Borgata, so it's executed with a little more taste. Â
First the tequila. Â The offerings are exclusively top-shelf stuff. Â I do believe they have Jose Cuervo on it for good measure; but that's like ordering Miller Lite at a Microbrewery. Â Each individual drink is at least $10 and gets you 2-3 ounces of tequila and a lime. Â I have tried a decent number of their tequilas and they have a great selection. Â If you win big in the casino, try the Penca which is about $20 or so, but worth it. Â For the value-minded-consumer, try the flights. Â The flights are $20 and give you a silver, a reposado and a gold of either Patron or Herradura (Patron has the name-recognition, but is actually the less-tasty of the two). Â As an even added value, you can get both flights for $35 (which is basically $6/drink, not bad at all!). Â This deal is just too good (especially considering that its at the Borgata). Â They do their best to hide this deal on the back-page of the menu, but now you know better.
Secondly the music. Â They get some great acts in here; primarily the cover-bands that play at the beaches on weekends. Â However, for being a relatively small venue, the better bands in this genre come through on Thursdays and Sundays. Â My biggest surprise was that, with the place being designed for live music, why are the acoustics so awful? Â There is nothing but hard-wood and glass everywhere. Â I have come here to see some of my favorite cover-bands and they all sound their worst at this place. Â The crowd gets into it, but the layout is pretty restrictive having more than a handful of people dancing at any moment. Â Minus one star each for these two shortcomings.
All-in-all, this place is a brilliant concept but a little poorly executed. Â A slight renovation to improve the layout and the acoustics would do wonders to the place; but until then, it's a somewhat disappointing experience.
My personal fav bar in Borgata or Atlantic City. Love live music and the bar has great food and drink selections.
The bands usually play covers and the crowd is more mature then the juvenile clubby bars nearby.
Go see a concert or play the slots then around 7ish grab a table or seat at the bar. If you go later on it becomes a zoo. Also be careful going out to the bathroom because then you have to wait outside to get back in the place.
The place the boys end up going to because they don't want to pay cover at Mixx or mur.mur. Â It's a decent time to watch a game there but I'm usually in AC to party so it's off to clubland for us girls. Â A good place to start of the night if you're not pregaming in your suite or grabbing free bevies while playing blackjack.
Review Source:I usually HATE crowded bars, but the Gypsy Bar pulled it off.
We took a taxi all the way to the Borgata to meet a friend. When she warned me, "Just so you know, there might be a line to get in," I was like GROAN! WOW, did NOT sound like my kinda place... but I really wanted to meet up on this Saturday night. When we got there, the line wasn't too bad, at most 5-7 minutes. It's pretty small inside and gets packed pretty easily. The bar made pretty good drinks, and had a decent beer selection (which kinda surprised me in AC). It's true, when there is music, it really overpowers the whole bar. There was a band of young fellows playing some rock and pop cover tunes. They weren't bad, and gave off a fun vibe since they were really into it.
Oh, one downside is that there aren't bathrooms in the actual bar area... so you have to exit the bar area to pee.
Gypsy Bar is everything you'd think it might be - slightly mysterious and dark. Â Set in a corner of the Borgata, you forget you are even in a casino while you are there.
They have a large bar along the side of the one wall, and a stage on the left. Â There are high-tops and small tables set throughout Gypsy Bar as well.
We saw Kristen and the Noise perform on Thursday night, and they put on an amazing show! Â They are a cover band, and the lead singer is a bundle of energy and she really gets the crowd going. Â We had a great time singing along and dancing.
Drinks are a little pricey, but we stuck with some good old Miller Light and kept it classy. Â I've been here before for an afternoon snack, and they have great food, as well as an extensive tequila collection. Â Gypsy Bar is a fun place!
Came here for drinks during my last stay at Borgata. It was actually during last years playoffs and the Steelers were playing. Â Tons of Steeler fans, which made it fun, but there simply aren't enough seats for football watching. We ended up having to stand for a good 45 minutes before anyone left so we can snag a seat at the bar. Â After the game, a live band came in and they were pretty good. We didn't stay long after that, since we just weren't feeling it. Â The bartenders were were not very friendly. Â Our bartender didn't smile once. Is looking bitchy a package deal when you get fake boobs? Â
Overall, it's not a bad place to stop by if you are just "bar shopping" if you will. Â We probably won't stop in again unless it was totally happenin' inside.
We did not stay here long but for the time I was here I had a good time. Â The cover band was good, crowd young and lots of seats which may be hard to get (good thing this place is in the Borgata, people tend to explore the other bars so just wait and hopefully a seat will appear).
Next time I would like to hang out here a bit longer.
Small laid back bar - very awkward layout.
Two focal points - the bar and a small stage (for live gigs for small and upcoming bands). Â When we were there, there was some folk music band playing. Since it's so small, the music overpowers the whole bar. Â This can be good or bad, depending on if you dig the music.
Gets crowded quick - again because it's small.
The majority of the crowd is standing and having their drink. Not a place to lounge.
Older crowd here (late 20s to 30s and up)
The Gypsy Bar is one of my favorite spots in The Borgata. Â They often have live rock music or upbeat classics coming from the jukebox. Â The bar offers several couches/lounge areas. Â Their tequila selection is larger than anything I have ever seen. Â The bar does get crowded, but it is always fun and the drinks are spectacular. Â It is worth visiting!
Review Source:While staying at the Borgata Hotel & Spa (Casino) in AC, we decided to check out the Gypsy Bar. Â Not only do I adore the name (I would love to be a gypsy for a week or two) but I absolutely loved this bar. Â
It's definitely a laid back atmosphere and gets very very crowded (so crowded that if you turn around too fast someone's drink may spill on you). Â It's such a popular place that they always have a long line waiting to get in. Â There is always a bouncer making sure no one gets in until someone leaves. Â
Love the atmosphere and "openess" of the place. Â Of course, they have stools at the bar, pub tables, regular round tables and also cushy oversized chairs with cocktail tables towards the back of the bar. Â Many fast & friendly bartenders that were moving and shaking (they must make great tips) Â When we were there, they had an awesome small band that got everyone going....great live music. Â Loved the place.
Upscale bar & lounge with a gourmet tequila menu and an exotic beer selection to the eclectic mix of eats, beats and visual treats.
I love the bar snack menu! Â A must try are the homemade dirty potato chips with dip, tequila lime shrimp and the olives, yeah that's right, olives served with parmesan crackers.
Cool drinks, cool atmosphere, live music, cool food! I had my first martini here, the first of many!
