I usually just go for drinks and to listen to music, but tonight I had dinner- one of the house specialties-the baked potato with corned beef and sauteed onions and it was out of this world. Service was great. The owner even came over to ask how everything was. Â The decor is a little tired but its more charming than your run of the mill chain restaurants.
Review Source:The wings were AMAZING (medium).
I was there with my boyfriend and his parents..... we each got a "pie"
Two "shepherds pie"--- amazing and HUGE!
One Chicken pot pie---- I didn't try it, but it seemed to taste good.
I ordered the St Brendens Pie... it was good but a terribly small sized portion.
Would I go back...? Probably not, but definitely worth going once.
Popped in here the other day. Nice decor & the staff were ok but the food was dire. I had the beef & Guinness pie & couldn't get the salt taste out of my mouth for about 3 hours. Â The food just tasted old, like it had been cooked & then reheated several times over a few days. Decent selection of beer though.
I would give it two stars but they lose one for calling a Cottage Pie a Shepherds Pie. Shepherds Pie is made with Lamb, Cottage Pie is made with beef. There's a clue in the name Shepherds Pie.
If you're looking for a place to go drinking and listen to some music, Gypsy's Horse is your place, but if you need to eat, do it before you get there. Â Had a dinner for a friend;'s birthday last night. Â 12 people in the group. Â Waitress was nice enough, though she took orders sporadically, like getting the food order from one couple. Â There were probably a total of 30 people eating at the same time we were, yet it took nearly an hour to get our meal, which was, for the most part, barely mediocre.
I had Mussels as an appetizer.  Flavor was good, but perhaps the smallest mussels I have ever seen, almost  looked like Barnacles.  Also, almost a third of the order was empty shells, and the Mussels were no where to be found in the sauce.
Main course, I had Shepherd's Pie, the Irish standard . . . barely any flavor, Â Startling that they could ruin this dish.
4 of the women in our party ordered the Salmon, not a special, it was on the normal menu. Â Yet at 8PM on a Saturday, they had run out and only had two servings left? Â What kind of restaurant is this? Â Then, to add insult to industry, the two orders came out, and the Salmon was so dry, neither woman finished it.
Even the Brownie dessert was dry . . . can you imagine women NOT finishing a Chocolate dessert? Â Well, it happened at Gypsy's Horse.
Yes, they gave us a 10% discount, but considering, they should have probably comped the meal.
So, for drinking, Yes, for food, NO!
At first you walk in and say what is this place from the outside. Then you walk in and wow. My in-laws are Irish. The Ma nu has a the favorites and even black pudding. Once you see that you know you are in the right place
The draft beer list is long and has great selections you normally don't see at a pub.
I had the fish and chips. Its a good way to test the water( No pun intended). If you can not get that right then no reason to go back. They were amazing. Crispy and flaky and not oily.
I was very impress but the frozen take out out items. If I was still hungry and would have tried them. As i was visiting family they would have never eaten the frozen items. I love blood budding and steak and kidney pie's my in laws are Scottish/ Irish and they make these items all them time. I wanted some then and there.
Will return next time I am in Florida as I live in NYC
Gave it another chance on a dead Tuesday night and they were out of everything from start to finish--beer to dessert and all kinds of things in between.
What self-respecting pub runs out of several brands of beer on a Tuesday? And NO dessert at all? Really?
We won't be back, but since they have no food to sell, I guess they aren't really missing a sale.
Karaoke and strange Floridians.
My girlfriend loves this place. She used to live across the street in the community and somehow, someway, Gypsy's Horse was her 'spot'. If you saw my girlfriend, you wouldn't think this bar was in her top 25, but like I said, somehow, someway.
Gypsy Horse has a nice outdoor area where people can sit in booths that are also covered by canopies allowing you to sit even when it's raining out. Inside, they have a nice choice of beers with normal prices for the area. Luckily for me, every time I've been to Gypsy's Horse, it has been a Thursday, which is karaoke night. This is when Gypsy's Horse gets crazy.
Grab a beer and people watch.
I usually enjoy eating at the Gypsy's Horse. I love Irish cuisine and the beer that comes with it. However, I was quite disappointed with my visit today. I usually order the Shepard's Pie or Guinness Pie. Both are normal delicious and filling. Our waitress was polite and attentive so no qualms there. When it came to my Shepard's Pie though I was more than shocked.
As soon as I was served my meal I could already notice a few differences. Normally the cheese melted on top of the potatoes is bubbly and freshly melted. Mine was a solid hard mash of yellow tasteless plastic. The potatoes which are normally creamy and thoroughly mashed were very lumpy and dry. Not to mention that the top was warm and the closer you got to the meat filling they got colder. The bottom potatoes were ice cold. The meat filling was still very tasty as they usually are and not greasy by any means. I could have used less potatoes and more meat though.
I didn't know until now that the Shepard's Pies are made before hand, chilled, and then reheated. I hope this is not a new direction for the Gypsy's Horse because I will never order my most favorite Irish dish from them again.
You ever walk into a place and completely loose track of the world outside? This is exactly what happens at the Irish Gypsy's Horse bar and tavern. And when I say it's an Irish bar, I mean it's an Irish Bar.
We were traveling to get some food in the area and didn't want to hit one of the many chains that seemed to surround the place. I checked Yelp and here was this spot, hidden in the back side of the old Wellington Mall (keep driving around to the right, you'll find it).
There it was, the Gypsy's Horse, tucked in the back. Even the name sounded like something you'd find in a storybook ... a place that doesn't quite fit in with it's surroundings, and is that much greater because of it.
This is an Irish bar. Not an Irish-themed bar because there's nothing phony or forced about it. It's a bar, though, that you'd easier find in Ireland or England than here. Dark, dark wood everywhere, old tables, a great long bar, old framed photos and Guinness posters on the wall. Even the tiny "Leprechaun Door" as you walk in doesn't feel cheesy or overdone, just helps to add to the charm.
We were there on a Sunday afternoon looking for food. However, we were told that their lunch didn't start until 4pm on Sunday (um, ok), and instead they were doing a classic buffet brunch. Sounds like a plan.
They had a few of your regular brunch items, toast and bagels and whatnot, but the joy of this place was the items you can't get anywhere else. Bangers, blood sausage, classic bread pudding with cheese and mushrooms, biscuits with amazing homemade crazy, Irish French Toast (which included liquor baked into it). Woah! Everything tasted homemade and it seemed like these were someone's home recipes, mostly because they probably were.
I would love to come back here later for a beer or entertainment (they seem to have something every night of the week, from karaoke to live bands). Unfortunately, I'm not from the area at all. Ah well, I'll just have to leave this one up to you then. Go forth and be merry.
Even after renovations the place seems to have no sense of itself. Â Service is poor, beer selection is weak, food -ehh, and the owners are apathetic.
They do get good bands come in, which is a plus, but everything mentioned above makes it not the sort of place I really want to hang out.
It's within walking distance, and I drive past to go to other places.
The gypsy horse is a fun place to go have a few drinks with friends. The bartenders are very personable. Its a well maintained diamond in the ruff. One of my favorites for drinks, I cannot comment on the food because I personally go there for drinks later on at night, but I have not heard anything bad.
Review Source:This place is nice for drinks, and hanging outside with friends. They sometimes have live Irish music which is pretty cool, but the food is horrible. It's all frozen food - ordered chicken pot pie to take home and it was frozen... Ordered appetizers - frozen. I have yet to order anything there that I couldn't have gotten down at Costco in the freezer section. I gave it 3 stars because it really is a fun place to go for the drinks and atmosphere.
Review Source:The hidden place that Wellington doesn't know about it. Â It's behind the old Wellington mall and you have to look for it when you go in the back of it. Â It's a nice irish bar that serves good food and great drinks :) Â I have been here numerous times and it always turns out to be fun. Â They have karaoke here on Thursday nights for anybody that wants to sing their hearts out to a song they don't even know the lyrics too ;) Â I never realize it can get crowded on a Friday night. Â The band usually keeps the crowd entertained and you can actually go to the other side of the bar that has a pool table and a sitting area for those that wants to get away from the band. Â Too bad it's so far away or I would probably be here every weekend.
Review Source:This place is FABULOUS! FUN! FRIENDLY!
I do not live in Wellington year round but am there several times a year and ALWAYS make it to the G.H.!
On the evenings that they have entertainment YOU ARE entertained!
Everything a local bar should be.......and more!
If you have the opportunity to go there....DO....you won't be sorry.
This little Irish restaurant is hidden in the back of a 1970s era mall that has seen better days, but don't let the location turn you off. If your in Wellington and are hungry for some fish n chips or bangers and mash this is your place. They also have one of the best beer selections in the area. My favorite thing on the menu is the potato soup....mmmm. Â On the weekends stop in for a nice breakfast selection.
Review Source:On a whim, we turned in to this shopping plaza and continued up a loading dock to find an Irish bar, complete with a Leprechaun door. Â After passing through the entrance, we ran the gauntlet of excessively loud (and excessively poor) disco music and predation. Â Further in, we passed an early game of beer pong and found a lone and unoccupied pool table. Â As the night wore on we got some booty-shakin jams. Â If the dj was anything, he was willing to experiment wth the musical selection until the crowd responded favorably. Â The bartenders were friendly and the drinks were reasonable. Â All in all, we had a blast.
If you find yourself in Wellington after the sidewalks have been rolled up, head to Gypsy's Hores and chill with other fellow refugees.
This is a local favorite in Wellington and really one of the only bars that doesn't have a fabricated feel. Me and friends come here once or twice every week for a pint and some conversation.
Both the outside and inside give off an Old Irish Pub feel despite being in the side of a town mall. They have a good selection of beers and the food is very good.
The service is a mixed bag. Sometimes you get a really good server willing to dialogue and other times you get a poor server who makes themselves scarce. But the owner is often present and will greet and talk with the patrons. He himself is Irish and this gives the Pub a very intimate feel.
The reason The Gypsy's Horse doesn't receive a five star rating from this  regular patron is due to the expensive beer and the sporadic service and the lack of a regular happy hour (Only in the Summer months its 2 for 1 after 10 p.m.) Not the best deal in town.
But over all if you are looking for a great atmosphere, good food, and good beer come down to the Gypsy's Horse! See ya Tuesday nights!
Went here with the whole extended family for a Thanksgiving Eve dinner. Â Good beer selection, enjoyed the rum + ginger beer concoction; brother-in-law required that we order the irish spring rolls (how scary does that sound) and they were worth trying out (cabbage and corned beef? really?).
I had the shepherd's pie, which was great, and ate about a third of it because the portion sizes are HUGE!
There's a fun outdoor area and the indoor space really feels like an old irish pub in spite of being attached to a mall.
