Haile Village Bistro is dog friendly-they even gave our dog a milk bone. We had dinner on the patio which was beautiful night in Gainesville! I had the salmon dinner with hummus platter to start. The serving size here is more than enough to share. I completed the night with coconut pie...TO DIE FOR!! I can still taste the flakes on my tongue. The experience was one of a kind. Please don't pass this place up!

I have mixed feelings about this place: The service does kind of suck but I always get take out so that doesn't really affect me. The food is pretty decent and the price is ok. It's a place you go to out of convenience but I would never drive across town to eat here

Fish n chips are delicious (one of the owners is British so it's legit), so are the artisan pastries, quiches, and the veggie omelets

They have a tea time thing once a month. British style tea and scones and the like. It's pretty cute

Hidden gem. The best Fish and Chips in Gainesville, and a great little british pub with imperial pints.

Just ate here last night. Was a bit confused when we walked in because there's a bar on one side called 'The Queen's Arms', I assumed that was the British restaurant (we wanted fish and chips) and this 'Haile Village Bistro' was a different restaurant.  After the initial confusion on our part, we were sat promptly, and explained about the menu, desserts, and the like.

Jane, who I believe is one of the owner's (very nice British lady!) kept coming by all night keeping us well entertained, she was great. She highly recommended the fish and chips (which we were dying for anyway), which she said was locally caught great white. Highly recommended!

Finished up with a delicious piece of cheesecake, all while listening to stories from Jane. Wonderful evening, great food, wonderful staff and service. Will definitely be back!

We've only had breakfast there, but if that's an indicator, it's good to go. Their quiches are varied, and all are top quality.

Earlier in the day, I had a fond memory of Welsh cakes from my trip to Wales 12 years prior. I tweeted that I wished I could have one. Then a friend took me to Haile Village Bistro, and there they were, stacked in a sugar-sprinkled pyramid: Pepperoni Hot Pockets. Joking - Welsh cakes, of course! I had a feeling that this dinner was meant to be.

Our server was great. When we asked about certain Persian dishes, she brought small samples out of the kitchen! I considered asking about every dish. "So what exactly is this la-sa-gna?"

The portions were ample. I had the fish and chips - tasty (added a photo). My friends - the chicken curry and spaghetti with meat sauce, and both dishes looked tempting.

Afterward, we spoke with Jane (I'm sure her name was), the chef's wife and co-owner, and she was sweet. It was fun to hear her story.

Oh, and I had a Welsh cake as soon as we got there. I'm getting another one today.

This restaurant really takes good care of you. The food is good and not to pricey. They have a great coffee selection as well. On of the owners came over to welcome us and chat for awhile. I am glad we stumbled upon this place. (Added bonus:Farmers market was going on at the time with lots of local fare)

Haile Village Bistro is a hidden gem in Gainesville on the extreme West side of town away from the all of the college hubbub (not that there is anything wrong with that).  The owners are a nice British couple, both of whom greeted us at our table during the evening.

For dinner, I had this wonderful Persian chicken dish called Fessenjan which is made with pomegranate juice.  (I was told the cook is Persian decent.)  I never had anything like it.  Everything else we had right down to the Chicken Parmesan was a step above the usual. All of the dishes were quite reasonably priced, $10 - $13, and you got plenty to eat.

From the bar, they had a lot of the usual British beers, but I really enjoyed the local Swamp Head Big Nose IPA (2 for 1 on this game day Saturday night).  It was not overly bitter and had varying hop flavors going down -  very nice example of this style.  They also advertised varying types of martinis if you are in to that.

Definitely don't pass up the desserts.  They are all proudly displayed as you walk in the door.  Everything looks fresh made, and sure tastes like it.  The Baklava was one of the best I've every had and I also had a tasty almond torte.

The only thing I would say was lacking was the wait staff.  Ours did not seem to be very well trained, but tried hard and sought out answers to questions not known.  The table behind us did not seem very happy with their wait staff either.  These issues were not so bad as to blemish our evening, though.  We enjoyed a two man band on our evening as well which was not too rowdy or loud, but just right for the atmosphere.

We will definitely seek out Haile Village Bistro again!

Great food.  Great live music.  Horrible service.  Sat down ordered a beer.  Beer never came.  30 minutes later spoke to the manager who is very sweet by the way and SHE brought out our drinks.  There were two waitresses and the manager in sight all night.  About 40 minutes into the visit they took our food order.  Got there at 7:00 and left at 8:45.  The table was NEVER cleared, there was never a visit from the waitress asking about another beverage or desert.  We asked for our check and to go boxes twice and moved our dishes to another table on our own.  I don't think I'll go back.  Too bad because it's a cute little place and the food is good.  Everyone raved about the sword fish at my table so it was a real hit.

Update: We had dinner here again. And again it was really good again. I had beef and mushroom pie this time - nice flavor of beef and mushrooms and nice crust. It was a little small and was served with fries, but it is also on the lunch menu for the same price. My husband had bangers and mash and a great local draft beer (Big Nose from Swamp Head). We had cherry pie as well - it was good but the baklava and roll cake we had previously were better.

Really like this place. The beef kebabs and rice I had for dinner were delicious. Best baklava I have ever had - they make a bunch of good looking desserts in house. Unpretentious and less crowded than Sister's up the street. Guinness on draft.

Terrible food and service. I'll never go back which is a shame b/c they do have killer baklava...the only good experience I'd had here.

I've been here a ton of times for breakfast and have always left satisfied.  They do a breakfast buffet option on the weekends but I've always stuck with their Eggs Benedict, regular and Irish.  They make a mean cup of tea which includes your own porcelain kettle.  An English couple runs the place and they do a great job.

The Haile Farmers market is every Saturday from 8am-12 and this place can get busy during these times where lots of shoppers stop in for a cafe.

I don't remember this being a British restaurant the first time I visited, but I don't know how I could have missed the pictures on the walls and the British flag salt and pepper shakers.

This is a nice place for breakfast.  Honestly, the first time I came here I wasn't impressed.  Then, I decided that I preferred the neighboring restaurant (Sisters) for breakfast.  I still love Sisters, but it's always packed and the service is slow (even when the place isn't full), so Haile Village Bistro became our breakfast alternative.  Now it's quickly becoming a favorite.

The quiche is my favorite menu item, but the breakfast food (your basic eggs, hash browns, bacon, etc.) is good too.

**Review based solely on desserts.  YMMV as always.**

Haile Village Bistro took over in the same location as The Third Place, and while I like the overall feel of the area better (the decorating scheme of the previous restaurant was awkward to say the least), I can't say that this restaurant is an improvement, sadly.

The dessert case is front and center as you walk in the door, and the desserts inside look very tempting.  The staff, who are all very kind, will take care to let you know that the desserts are all "fresh-baked on premises."  I've no doubt that they are made on-site, but I wouldn't call them fresh by any means.  The first time I came here with my husband, he got baklava and I got an enormous cream puff, pretty much the same thing that you can get in the frozen food section of any Publix.  The only problem is that this puff, whether due to its very substantial size or the refrigeration, was not flaky or soft as I would expect.  It had the consistency of day-old bread--that is, going stale.  I think that my husband liked his baklava, though at this point I could safely bet he doesn't remember anything about it.

I took Jimmy B. here last night to see if the cream puffs had improved.  They weren't available, but there were other desserts that looked tasty--in particular, a beautiful pavlova (a meringue pie covered with fresh fruit and cream) and an equally attractive lemon torte.  We ordered one of each and dug in.  Suffice to say, they weren't very inspiring.  The pavlova was practically tasteless and the lemon torte was lemon lemon LEMON ZOMG WHY SO MUCH LEMON!  There was no other flavor or spice present and it tasted really unbalanced.  Jimmy liked them better mixed together, but I wasn't impressed.

We looked over the regular menu, which was an odd mix of american appetizers, "british" and american lunches, and Italian dinners.  I would return at some point to try the steak and mushroom pie, but everything else seemed generic and uninspiring.  That's really too bad--I would eat British food if it was offered, but there's more to the genre than fish and chips.

Overall, I would return (because I want to eat the steak and mushroom pie), but I'm not sure that I would recommend it to others just yet.  This place suffers from the same problem as Gelato di Prata--too many options, none of which are executed well.  Haile Plantation is too far of a hike to make only to find out the the food is mediocre.
