It's a dive bar, it's always pretty mellow. Â You can either sit inside, or on the back side of the building, where they have a tiki themed bar area. Â This is where you have access to the sand volleyball court (watch or play). Â Drinks are cheap, stiff and service always seems pretty quick. Â I believe they do karaoke some nights as well as book some bands other nights. Â If you just want your basic bar, this is it.
Review Source:Its an airport locals spot, but I came here for the first time on new years because none of my friends and I could figure out what we wanted to do, we knew we wanted to drink, and we just knew we didn't want to pay a million dollars to party at some club just to get in then pay a few extra thousand to drink. Anyhow, they had a DJ there that was old enough to be my great great granddad, a few people were dancing. Very low key, but the drinks were very strong and very good. Moderately priced. Not a place you want to come for a first date or anything, but they have pool tables. the servers and bartenders are friendly and honest with you, basically a round-the-way type bar. But if you're in the area and want a good drink I def recommend coming here. Also, the wings are pretty good too.
Review Source:I was surprisingly impressed with ol' Hammer's. Â This place has strange hours (not open on Monday/Tuesday nights I believe), and every time I drive by it seems to never be open. Â However, some friends and I found ourselves there on a Friday night recently with a hankerin' to play sand-court volleyball. Â I warned my friends "I've never been to this place, but I think it's pretty seedy". Â Upon entering there was a light crowd of all types and ages. Â The interior reminds me of a pirate's ship which was kinda cool/funky/cheesy at the same time. Â The staff and locals were friendly and non-judgemental of my friends' and my super enthusiasm about playing volleyball.
Hammer's has a large "beach bar" area circa 1995 Panama City Beach decor that overlooks the volleyball court, and I thought it was AWESOME! Â It is surprisingly clean and somewhat well-kept despite how it looks from the outside. Â The beach bar area was quite fun, if you dig deep into your imagination it almost feels like you're on the beach and not near the Atlanta Airport. Â There is a dance floor with a fun DJ spinning a mix of alot of 90's jams (think CMC Music Factory and Boyz 2 Men), and a super nice bartender working the beach bar.
Volleyball was tons of fun as the few onlookers cheered us on all night long. Â Yes this place is a dive but I would totally recommend it for its querkiness and the friendly peeps.
Hapeville sounds like it might be out in the boonies, but it's a suburban bedroom community adjacent to Atlanta's Hartsfield airport. Â Jeff Foxworthy's hometown, the Welcome To signs used to say, but I never see him around. Â I think maybe he moved out to Beverly...(Hills, that is).
Hammer's is basically a quirky, dumpy neighborhood bar with its usual suspects, but the natives are friendly (think Cheers with southern accents) and it caters to all who stumble in. Â It's a healthy walk east on Virginia Ave. past the Delta complex. Â If you're tired/lazy/drunk, all the airport hotel limo drivers know where it is.
It has a 10-stool bar in a big room with booths/tables. Â Tries to be a sports bar, so there are so many flat-screen TVs, patrons have a devil of a time keepin' it all watched. Â Pool tables off to the side, but crowded into too small a space in its latest renovation, otherwise I'd rate it 5 stars for casual entertainment.. Â Darts, electronic games, occasional Karioke (with some surprisingly good amateur singers) and sometimesTrivia, when the resident social director sobers up enuf to book those events.. Â
Next door to the main bar is a "Florida funky" indoor/outdoor structure referred to as "The Beach." Â It sports a volleyball court featuring beach sand trucked in from the Sunshine State. Â DJ music/dance Fri/Sat. (cover charge). Â
Typical bar food, sandwiches and fries. Â Wings and quesadillas particularly tasty, (ask if Mario's cookin'). Â Standard selection beer, wine and spirits. Casual dress (jeans 'n tees) . Â Coats/ties are suspect. Â Smoking allowed, children not.
Good spot for adults to grab a cold one and brush off the dust of the day. Â Opens at 8 a.m. (more or less) to cater to night-shifters and Keno fanatics.
Closes at 2 a.m.
I was having a teeny tiny pity party for myself because my birthday is on Valentine's Day, which truly sucks. But then I went to Hammers, which, on the surface, should just be a sucky bar. But everyone working there (Grey in particular) helped me ring in my thirties with no tears and with quite a few laughs. Thanks y'all. I'll be back.
