This place was horrible. So we wanted a place to eat lunch and the Hangar was near by. It was super hot that day and we wanted to eat outdoors and the hangar had that option. We entered the hangar and waited for a table to be available. We asked if we could eat outside, the hostess gave us menu's but no tables were available. We then asked if a table was available by the window she told us that it was already taken. So we spotted a table that was fully set up but she had said it was also taken, "reserved!" Since I was annoyed a nice waiter had offered to give us a table since people were ready to pay. Well this gets crazy...two white girls walked in asked for a table for two...the hostess escorts them to the table we asked for. Then goes back to where she stands and looks at me and laughs with a smirk on her face. This was effed up!!! Horrible service ever! I've always been respected eating here but just cause I'm colored doesn't mean we need to get treated like this!!!

On the advice of a local, we stopped here form lunch one day.  The food was tasty, and the service was great.  Prices weren't as bad as they might have been given this is AK and it's also a cruise ship zone.

The halibut was great - check for that if you can.

Cool restaurant, with an awesome view.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch, I had the fish and chips and my wife had the burger. Both were great.

Place was ridiculously crowded, which I imagine happens a lot during cruise season, but for the most part they handled the crowd pretty well. We had to wait a little while, but nothing too awful.

    Staff was very friendly.

Went here on the recommendation of a local.  We tried all three types of fish and chips.  The food wasn't bad and they had a great selection of beers.  The view was terrific too.  The problem was the service.  Our waitress left us waiting to order once we sat down.  She didn't check on us for some time and we had long since finished our beers.  When we did get to order something new, she forgot about the order.  My brother asked for the beers and she brought back only one, which wasn't the one he ordered.  They've got potential.  Food is simple and pretty good.  Plenty of beers on tap, but they've got to do better on service.

I've been to the Hanger numerous times as I am a local. This time (6/27/2013) was half crappy half okay. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT order the bacon wrapped oysters ($12). They suck. Bacon was half cooked, oysters tasted old. Ask why they do not  offer the bacon wrapped scallops, which were the bomb.

The tempura halibut ($17)  is a hit. Crunchy outside, moist, fresh taste inside.

In Juneau for work and stopped in for a quick bite to eat with a coworker. Great burger and fries. Wish I would have had more time to hangout here. It's a fun place with a great view and the dishes going by our table to others looked and smelled wonderful.

Very good selection of beers.  Bartenders were not outgoing, but at least served beer.  Nice view of the harbor.  Our issue was with another customer; I  believe he was a local.  He made my husband move a bit so he could have "his seat" at the end of the bar.  We made small talk about the Mariners-Yankees game that was on TV.  He was a Mariners fan so we mentioned we were Yankee fans.  I can't remember how he worded his response, but he essentially said we were stupid.  We left shortly after, and he seemed to realize he had been rude, but didn't seem too sorry about it.  I wonder how much business he drives off.

This was another great stop while in Juneau during my cruise.  It really wasn't our intention to eat here, but I'm glad that we did.  The view of the wharf was nice.

I had the tempera halibut and chips and was very pleased.  Yes, a little pricey but it's halibut.  My husband had the bacon cheeseburger and loved it as well.  We both had drinks from the bar and they were good as well.

Service was great.  Many came over to chat with my toddler (lol).

Sooooo disappointed with my dinner. Stick with beers and the bar menu. I ordered the prime rib and instead got army chow hall roast beef. The Au Jus was almost water and the broccoli was barely cooked, and I absolutely hate raw broccoli. If I was more of a squeaky wheel I would have complained there but instead I'm venting on yelp.

I recommend the fish & chips.  Also reliable service and a better beer selection than other bars in town.

This seemed like the place to go in Juneau, we were only there for a night and our cab driver highly recommended it. It was slightly over priced and very slow service. But they were friendly and the food was fine.

Came here on my last day of vacation.  I had the strongest G&T ever.  So strong it was actually warm going down.  If you are looking for the stiffest of the stiff in drinks look no further.

The food was pretty good, though AK pricey.  25 for the halibut and chips.  I would go back.

Gets pretty busy at lunch, but didn't have to wait to long for a table by the bar.  They have a pretty decent draft selection on unique beers.  All but one at our table went of the fish and chips.  I got mine tempura style which I would definitely recommend, the batter is much more light and fluffy that the pub style.  The hubby got the fish tacos three ways (three different kinds of fish) and they were all pretty tasty.  Each was served with a different topping and sauce.

Most tables have a pretty good view of the water where you can watch the float planes take off and land.

Great place to grab good food with a fantastic view. We were visiting for the day, and ate here at the recommendation of our tour guide.

Since we'd been overwhelmed by too much food on the cruise ship, we ordered four apps to share:
*Idaho fries - loaded with garlic and parmesan cheese.  And when I say loaded with garlic, I mean enough garlic to keep even the super vamps away.  It was easy to avoid if you're not a garlic fan, but I loved it.
*Portabella fries - are just what they sound like.  Slices of portabella mushroom breaded and deep fried.  They came with a sauce, that was okay, but I chose not to use it.
*Crab cakes - wow. So much crab, amazing flavor, paired with yummy tartar sauce.
*Coconut prawns - huge, tender, with excellent coconut batter. So good.  My sister is currently having an affair with coconut shrimp, so of course we had to order a second plate after devouring the first plate.

The only thing that wasn't completely fantastic were the sauces that came with the apps.  They were just not paired well with the food.  I ended up not eating any sauce except for the tarter sauce (which was good), but my companions mixed and matched the sauces with the apps.  The food was able to hold it's own, and the sauces did more damage than enhancement of the dishes.

Service was good even though it was super busy and we sat in the bar area.  One cool thing about the decor is the multiple draft handles they have hanging around the bar like Christmas lights.

Overall, good food and great view of the wharf!

Would have rather gone to Sandpiper Cafe again.  We went to Hangar on the Wharf for early lunch at like 11am when they open.  We thought they may serve brunch, but not, just lunch.  I got the "famous" halibut taco which isn't a taco but a burrito.  Since I'm allergic to dairy I asked for no cheese or sour cream.  The "taco/burrito" came out and all that was inside the "taco/burrito" was bland halibut shreds.  Nothing else. The halibut at Twisted Fish is much better than this shredded stuff.   The lettuce, guac, salsa, and olives were all outside the "taco/burrito."  While it looked intriguing, it was such a pain to eat with all this stuff on top of it - it kept falling apart.  All in all not enough tastiness for the mess.  The plus side is watching the float plans take off which was super cool.  Service was very attentive.

My husband and I had an early lunch here recently during a trip to Alaska. Although I'd heard great things about their fish and chips, we couldn't resist getting burgers. They were delicious! Huge, with lots of toppings--and the steak fries were fabulous. I had the Alaskan Brewing Company stout, which wasn't my favorite.

Our server was very friendly and professional, and we enjoyed our booth by the window, where we could see the sea planes taking off and landing. We'll have to go back for the fish and chips next time. :)

Always good, always friendly. Good selection of beers. You can't go wrong in Juneau going to the Hangar.

The tempura battered fish and chips are great. The bi plane for lunch soup and sandwich is great. Nachos are good.

I am still aching, ACHING for their tempura halibut fish n chips!!!

The Hangar is, unfortunately, very close to the cruise ships, so it gets insanely overrun during the day/evening, but it clears out a bit later and if you sit at the bar, you don't notice the crowd quite so much.

One of the all-around best things is the insanely insanely good sourdough bread.  Please get some.  It's really kind of special and was literally one of the food highlights of my trip to Alaska.

They have Alaskan Brewery beer, so please don't just order a Sierra Nevada or something you always drink.  Unfortunately, they grill the hell out of their fish if you don't beg and grovel for them to please go easy and barely touch it.  You've been warned.  It's awful, truly sad to do to fresh fish like that, but the things I loved are truly so good that I'm still willing to give them a 4.

You really do have to stop by for the tempura fish n chips if you're in the area.  Even the tartar sauce is excellent.

Just know ahead of time that you'll be paying more for most of the food than you would in a Times Square mock pub, but I try to balance that with the idea that there's really only half the year to make money for most of the town.

I came to Juneau on a cruise ship and ended up at Hangar via the recommendation of our whale watching tour guide. All he said was "good food, they have about 15 beers on tap" and I was convinced!

But seriously, the food was REALLY good. The tour guide recommended the fish tacos, which turned out to be more like a fish burrito. Delicious halibut in a giant tortilla with all the fixin's - sour cream, quac, cheese, salsa, etc.

The service was great. My brother and I have very different taste in beer but our server helped us come to an agreement (see below.)

The beer selection was excellent, although they happened to be out of the first two beers we wanted to try. My brother and I settled on a pitcher of Alaskan Summer (when in Rome...) and we were both very happy.

I'm very grateful for the recommendation and will DEFINITELY come back here if I ever make it up to Juneau again.

We stumbled here with a recommend from our bus driver on our Alaskan Brewing Company tour.  We were in Juneau for a full day as a stop on our Alaskan cruise.

We didn't order any food, just a pitcher of the Alaskan Pale Ale.  Which we had just tasted at the Brewery, and has not been widely distributed yet.

We had a great time conversing with the bartender and one of the servers.  They were both super-friendly and just people that were easy to talk to and clearly enjoyed their jobs.  They were both college students that were in Juneau working during their summer break.

The place is small and faces the water where you can watch float planes land and take off.

I would recommend this spot if you happen to be in Juneau and have some time to kill, or just prefer to enjoy a nice cold beer.

Great view and perfect spot to have lunch..
One of the best fish n chips I've had! Pub halibut & chips(steak fries)... It was crunchy goodness... and I also had the seafood chowder, which had a lot of flavor and was not too thick.
They have good beer sampling too if you want to try the many beers they have to offer - $2 each for 4 oz..

I seem to come here every time I'm in Juneau.  Plenty of draught beer to choose from and free pool upstairs.  Even on cruise ship days there is no waiting.  I wonder why the crew dont' come here as much?

The food is ok, don't expect great things, but the service is great and if you are not playing pool, its great fun to go out on the deck and watch the sea planes come in.

Great view of seaplanes coming & going, Gastineau Channel & green Douglas Island across...we didn't eat but had the best beer in the universe on tap...tried Alaska Amber, White & the other one...the bartendress was super friendly and extra sweet on my taller companions...sure enough, later that night they hooked up again at another bar....Juneau is small but cozy.....you know?

p.s. plenty of wet crows and ravens outside but inside, all safe!
p.p.s. I've never seen ravens this big....huge, kinda creepy when they're wet....& you can quote me on that nevermore!

We seemed to get there at a great time as there was no wait to be seated for an early dinner perhaps about 3:30 PM. It was in an interesting location - that I guess is literally the birth place of Alaskan Airlines now turned into a restaurant area and bar scene. We had a great view of the pontoon boats taking off and landing and the menu was friendly enough to have something for everyone at the table.

I started with some Alaska Amber on tap and with some Artichoke Dip w/ Crab & Spinach and Idaho Fries with garlic & melted parmesan we were off to a good start. From there things just got better, however, because the Crab Trio with 1 king crab leg, 1/2 dungeness crab and a cluster of snow crab legs - served with drawn butter & lemon was simply amazing. Maybe there is better somewhere in Alaska but not being from the state I can say for sure this is as good as I have seen it so far.

I've spent time in Juneau for business and my favorite place is Hangar On the Wharf. The halibut (macadamia nut or grilled) is fantastic. But the real reason I always end up here is their soups - they are incredible. Chicken and Rice, Turkey Vegetable, and Pepper Steak are my favorites.

The service is great, the views are stunning - for sure one of my favorites in Juneau.

When we went to Juneau one thing I was looking for was a nice Juneau, we sat out on the deck facing the water, watching the sea planes land and enjoyed a wonderful lunch. The staff was friendly and the lunch was great, we had a party of 8 and all tried each other's food, so I have tried a lot.  They have two fish and chips choices, and we tried both, I think it is the Tempura Fish and chips that I loved, I expected I would prefer the near battered ones (as that is what I always prefer), but it was the only thing I didn't love.  The tempura ones, where what I expected the bear battered ones would taste like, and I loved them.
The Fish taco was large and great, loved the calamari and crab cakes, and also enjoyed desert.  We had a wonderful time!!! Will defiantly come back.

We visited a friend in Juneau for a week and spent a few nights in town eating and drinking at the Hangar. It's one of the few decent options in town, and a rare bar that has food at all. Great beer selection, and perfectly decent pub food. I had a great grilled Cajun halibut burger (basically a filet on a bun), and a totally satisfying cheeseburger another night. Halibut nachos seem strange, but are tasty and huge! They also have "Rough Drafts" often from the Alaskan Brewing Co. in town, although they didn't have any when I was in town.

The view is also amazing, as other people have mentioned - you can see the floatplanes landing and taking off without any of the noise of being outside. I imagine the little front deck at the Hangar is incredibly noisy.

The Hangar can get loud and packed in the evenings, but the service is uncompromised and there's hardly any wait.  It has one of the best views of the water, and at night the lights from the enormous cruise ships make for an enchanting evening.

They have a great, extensive selection of beers (they had my favorite Italian beer), and their menu is creative.  The coconut prawns are enjoyable with the dip they come with (looked and tasted very similar to Mae Ploy sweet chili sauce).  Burgers and prime rib are average, and prices are above average.  But if you're looking for a place that's a step above McYou-Know-What down the street, this is it.

After reading my review, I decided to bump them up to four stars.  Hubby reminded me that our server was new and she did apologize for her mistakes.

Plus, the view is awesome!  You can sit in the restaurant and watch the float planes fly in and out.  You can see people walking around the city.  There is a beautiful view of the water and mountains.

So, four stars instead of three. :)

If you're a visitor to Juneau and want a place that satiates the following, then this is the place to go:
    a beautiful view
a chance to interact with the locals
    decent food
a strong range of beers and a full bar
with a very easy going atmosphere where you can find a business person, primped and pressed, right next to the guy that just walked off the fishing boat, and everyone between.

The hangar is flooded at lunch time for both to-go orders and locals cramming in a decent lunch break. Then, fairly touristy (during the tour season) in the off hours between lunch and dinner. During the dinner hour it's a good mix of both tourists and locals, but by the later hours of the evening it's chock full of locals.

I have to admit, working in the tour industry, this place was like a daily addiction after work. Some days the food was phenomenal and we couldn't have asked for better, and other days... our Caesar salad was swimming in dressing, the halibut was overdone, or under done, or who knows what else. But... we still would go back for more. I often indulged in the fish 'n chips, and dabbled in the chicken 'n gravy, and loved the calamari.

The Hangar owners also own The Twisted Fish, and Pizzeria Roma (which is across the hall).

The Twisted Fish is the slightly more upscale sister, and is more greatly visited by tourists, than locals. It is also run only during the tour season, whereas the Hangar and Pizzeria are year round.

The Hangar was originally geared towards the pub arena, so it was never meant to be a gourmet type of restaurant, it has just evolved more towards the restaurant offerings as the success grew.

The Pizzeria was recently acquired, so that is one reason why the menu doesn't resemble either of the other two restaurants. It was established just a little more than 10 years ago,  and recently was bought by the Hangar owners.

During the daytime hours families can enjoy the restaurant side.
There are two pool tables upstairs, with a handful of booths, As well as restrooms.
If you want to visit with the locals, then by all means, stay seated in the bar side, enjoy the beautiful view of the channel- which even if the sun isn't out, is still gorgeous.
And by all means TRY THE ALASKAN BEER- the Summer Ale is really good. It's bottled there in Juneau.

I started this place off with two stars, but thought about it long and hard, but still, I must resist being so generous.  Maybe it was bad experience, or just a bad time to be there (which was a Thursday evening around 9pm).  The surroundings were lively, upbeat, looked like everyone was having a good time.  And after staring at this screen for a good 20 minutes, I decide to give that 3rd star.  I forgot to mention the incredible view out the window.  I imagine it would've been a sight if the sun was out.

As for the food, the food was over-cooked.  Even though the salmon was tasting ok, it was slightly over-cooked.  I didn't care for the other seafood on my platter.  I disliked the dish so much I forgot what it was called.  And that hardly ever happens.  Maybe I should have ordered a burger.  Oh geez.  This is the last time I ask food advice from the cab driver.  Although, it didn't look like there was much more to eat there then this place.

Definitely a great beer selection and a locals favorite. This place can get busy!

I ate here twice. I ordered a green mix salad with thinly sliced steak, blue cheese crumbles and tomatoes the first time, was quite good. And the second time I ordered the halibut tacos. That ended up basically being a halibut burrito. It was okay.

The beer selection is fantastic, and the wait staff is very knowledgable and ready to talk about each beer, which I love.

Definitely a fan of the Black and Bleu steak - this is seriously delish, and cooked perfectly to order.  The burgers are also great; very hearty, fresh and well done - no limp lettuce and half-melted processed cheese in sight.  The fries are crisp and huge, with a little bit of seasoning.

I've had a little less luck with some of the other entrees - an Ahi Salad for lunch just fell flat.  The dressing was more oily than flavorful, and the ahi was flavorless and kind of mushy.  The halibut fish and chips was sadly underwhelming.  I went in with a serious fish and chips craving (which only happens about once a year) and left wishing I'd ordered something else.

The daily chowder should not be missed!  Every time I've had it, it's been dynamite.  Service is always pleasant, quick and knowledgable, and even when they're swamped, they take the time to check in, give advice on beer and smile.

The Hangar is always on my list to visit when I'm in Juneau.

The Hangar was recommended to us by our bed and breakfast hostess in Gustavus as one of her personal favorites. She was right on the money - the Hangar served up a tasty halibut burger and jambalaya, along with portabello fries (yum!) and Alaskan Brewing beers on tap.

Pretty lively scene that is far enough down the road from the major cruise ships, if you are trying to feel a bit less like a tourist. Also, we caught a funky band in the adjacent ballroom - no cover charge!

We had a lot of fun here.

I'm hoping someone else like me will someday search for restaurants in Alaska... so i hope this helps.

Hangar is an awesome place to have lunch at in Juneau. It serves great burgers, nachos and even the pasta is okay.

The view, although, is breathtakingly amaging!!! It's called "Hangar" for a reason -- the floatplanes (seaplanes) are parked right outside this restuarant and you can see sooo many of them taking off and landing while you're here....

    Enjoy!

The Hangar on the Wharf is located in Juneau's historic Merchants Wharf Mall, which used to be the home of Alaska Coastal Airlines in the 1940's.  This old seaplane hangar sits on pilings over the water and has an awesome view of the Gastineau Channel.

The restaurant is pretty large in size, with a ton of tables and a huge bar.  The menu is extensive, consisting of everything under the sun.  No really though, there's something for everyone, even vegetarians like myself.  My friend and I split the Macho Nachos for a starter and geez! were they good.  I'm a nacho critic - and these were perfect - warm, crisp tortilla chips, lightly melted chedder cheese spread evenly over the dish, with super fresh diced tomatoes, onions, japs, sour cream and (i think) guacamole.  It's not often I see perfect nachos - most places don't take the time and slop everything together.  Anyway, for our (lunch) main course, I enjoyed the Garden Burger w. Mushrooms, and my friend enjoyed the Hangar Bacon Burger.  They were served in a basket with crisp (that's right, not soggy or limp) french fries and a pickle.

Did I mention this place has over 100 beers to choose from, and about 20 of them are on tap?  That's right, folks.  The place was packed solid, and we still received competent, friendly service.  Can I rave anymore about this place?  Boy, am I glad I didn't go to the Red Dog Saloon like every other tourist in town!
