Bookmarked for every time we go back to Jim Thorpe!
We loved the mansion. Don't get it confused with the one next door, down the hill, but the Harry Packer Mansion is stupendous and a great feature to Jim Thorpe.
We really enjoyed our peaceful tour, taking in all of the small details, stories and features to the mansion. It's self-guided, at your own pace and inexpensive. For the information we got about the place and for the opportunities to be in rooms where such people of history had once been was priceless. Not to mention, the staff was accommodating and friendly. The one gentleman, who was soon approaching his wedding, was a thrill to chat with in the Libations Lounge.
I'd recommend this venue to anyone. Anyone who is interested in a private function, check. Anyone who is touring Jim Thorpe for the first time, check. Anyone who wants to get away for a B & B experience, check (that's bookmarked for us). Also bookmarked is a Murder Mystery show. All aspects of the place are wonderful in writing and in person. The lounge is superb, might I add, and it's not a bad place to stop for wine and a private moment on the front balcony area.
Thanks to everyone at the mansion. See you soon!
My boyfriend Ryan and I stayed overnight here a couple months ago and had one of the best hospitality experiences ever. Â We arrived a bit early for check- in and was greeted by a friendly pooch and a very nice gentleman who took our bags and assisted me in giving direction to nearby glen okono that we were planning on hiking. Â When we returned all was ready for us and we were personally escorted up to our room which was filled with antique charm and natural light. Â I was pleased with the personal bathroom (sometimes at b&b's it's communal). Â After changing we sat outside on the porch and had some of the best new zealand sauvignon blanc. Â After speaking with the 2 managers of the mansion it was quite clear they take great pride in selecting quality spirits for their wine bar. Â Our overnight stay was comfortable and quiet. Â Perfect romantic escape from our busy lives in the city. Â The icing on the cake was the breakfast in the morning. Â The quiche was TO DIE FOR and checkout was swift and easy. Â I would go back anytime and we have already decided to make it an annual trip. Â Thanks so much Harry Packer Mansion staff!
Review Source:**This review is for the self-guided tour only.
While the building itself is gorgeous, the experience overall was not worth the $5 per person. We walked in and were greeted by young staff that were more worried about socializing with one another than anything else. They were sitting in each of the rooms (staff, not guests) and talking about "worldy" matters like drinking and yachting. It made you feel very intrusive as you toured the building.
The tour itself walks you through a variety of living spaces with a double sided sheet. It would have been great to know more about the family who lived here, the history of the house and town, and the parts Disney focused on.
Again, beautiful house but the experience lacked personality.
I really enjoyed my stay here. Â The house is beautiful, the beds are comfy, the breakfasts are tasty, and you can have drinks out on the veranda in the evening, and you can wake up in the morning and watch the mist over the valley. Â It's a five-minute walk from the main drag of Jim Thorpe. Â Lovely!
The people who worked there were very sweet, with the exception of the bombastic middle-aged male owner who kept aggressively complaining about the church bells on Sunday morning. Â Yeah, they are loud, but they are Sunday morning church bells. Â Whatever your deal is, I don't need to hear it over breakfast. Â Luckily he wasn't around too much.
Also, they have the cutest, most crotchety old dog ever, Tiger.
I attended one of the murder mystery weekends. It was a blast! The staff were friendly and fun and the guy who ran the mystery was hilarious. The mystery was pretty tough to solve and you would need to pay attention to a lot of the details. If you participate in the mystery be prepared to roleplay. We did not attend with friends, but I can see this being great for large groups.
The food was excellent. They served 2 breakfasts and one dinner with the package and it was really tasty. It's also a great place to stay if you want to tour the town, everything is in walking distance. The other Packer family mansion is also right next door.
The room was beautiful and clean. We stayed in one of the suites and we loved just sitting in the room. There is no TV and the wi-fi is weak. But to be honest, it didn't matter and that says a lot coming from someone who spends all their time on the computer. Â
There is a spooky sounding train that runs during the night, you can hear it several times each night, but I was able to tune it out.
Highly recommended and we are thinking of returning, as there is more than one version of the mystery available.
My boyfriend and I went to the first Friday wine tasting at the Harry Packer Mansion during our weekend in Jim Thorpe. It was $25 per person and we got to learn about and try 4 different wines during the tasting plus clean up duty on whatever wine was left over after the tasting. Small h'ors devours were also included. While we waited for the other guests to arrive to the wine tasting, we were able to do a walking tour of this cool, old mansion. Some of the guest rooms were even open to peek into. It would probably be really neat to be able to stay at the mansion. We had already booked the Inn at Jim Thorpe around the corner, but we were happy we got to see what the mansion looked like from the inside. Maybe on our next visit to Jim Thorpe we'll have to try out the Harry Packer Mansion.
Review Source:***Disclaimer*** I did not stay at the Harry Packer Mansion Inn.
On a recent weekend getaway in Jim Thorpe I had the opportunity to take a self-guided tour of the Harry Packer Mansion Inn and enjoy some drinks on the veranda from Libations Lounge. Admission for the tour was $2. Drink prices were within normal range for the high-end products offered.
Well, let me just say that I will NEVER, EVER pay that $2 admission again! The reason? Guests of the Inn are not required to pay it and this is where I will stay when visiting Jim Thorpe from now on.
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the building, its history and the history of the town itself. The common areas were  elegant and appropriately decorated. The guest rooms were absolutely gorgeous, impeccably clean, spacious, well appointed and the views were magnificent. There is an ongoing restoration project but I didn't see any work being done on this particular day nor did I see any construction dust or debris so this seemed not to be an issue. I inquired about the price of a weekend at the Inn and was a bit perturbed when I realized I paid about the same price for a nice-enough hotel with shabby customer service just a block away. I cannot wait to return to The Harry Packer Mansion Inn!
