First time to this restaurant. The location is beautiful, on the water. I went in April for dinner so there was no outdoor seating, but it is available when the weather is right. I had the salad with lobster and butter lettuce and the swordfish with mango salads and rice, both very good. There was plenty of lobster in the salad and the swordfish was large and salsa delicious touch, they did go a bit heavy on the salsa. The lobster mac and cheese, my girlfriend got and it was very good. Thee casserole dish was full of lobster and pasta shells in a cheese sauce. The dish was not a solid gooey block of pasta and cheese, if your into that. She preferred it that way. There was a lot of flavor in the dish as well.
Review Source:We had our wedding reception in the lower level of the Hemisphere, and it was exactly what we wanted for our day! Â We worked with Tracey on the room setup and the food. They accommodated our food requests well and the display of food was exceptional. the big hit from the food were the scallops wrapped in bacon and the sesame chicken on a stick! The serving staff downstairs were fantastic and really fun and friendly! They interacted appropriately with our guests but mostly worked seamlessly behind the scenes. Tracey's husband cooked a feast for our guests and came out afterward to make sure that we had had a good time.
We did not eat upstairs in the restaurant while we were here, but our catered event could not have been better. We would and will recommend this venue and Tracey to anyone who wants to have a catered event with a spectacular view!
Great experience! My friends and I went for dinner and drinks and were very satisfied. Our martinis were made with local Nantucket vodka and were delicious. We split a few different apps and entrees, the mussels were to die for and the coconut shrimp were amazing. We were blown away by the size of the nachos and all of the yummy toppings that came with it. We tried the Cape Cod Reuben which had a different spin than any other reuben I've had and it was quite tasty. Another favorite was the Lobster Mac and Cheese, we weren't sure what to expect but we were very pleased. Service & atmosphere was great too! We would definitely go back.
Review Source:Hemisphere is very deceiving. The location is great, the views are nice and the atmosphere and decor is very up to date and clean.
My only recommendation is to come here and enjoy the view and a drink. The food is a disaster.
The swordfish was over cooked and showed evidence of being freezer burnt (honestly theres a fish market just around the corner) They tried to cover the fish in mango salsa to save the dried up fish but it didnt work.
The fish and chips was mostly chips. They didnt provide tartar sauce and forgot several times to bring any. The meals come with frozen green beans and rice. They could've atleast put on a nice presentation that any simple cook can do....
The help there was brand new and was completely out of touch with restaurant service and the management was not responsive.
Save yourself and your money and cook up some shellfish at home or go to seafood sams!
We are local and every once in a while we get the urge to go and enjoy the view of the ocean and canal. That's really about all this place has going for it.
The food is very average.
Burnt nachos to start off tonight very little salsa and sour cream to accompany  them as well....no jalapenos...banana peppers look good but don't have that same kick..
Ruben sandwich was Ok...overdone...very lacking on the sauerkraut......
Onion rings....well maybe the fry cook should take a class on how to put those together...thin little strands of what looked like crumbs of the real order of rings.
Our server was very pleasant.
The table next to us sent back the Lobster mac and Cheese.... so it looked like the kitchen was not batting 1000 on this visit.
Not worth the $$ at all.... maybe for a drink or two and the view.
Much better dining options in Sandwich and close by.
Went here during a weekend off last week...Some friends were vacationing for a few weeks, so I decided to join them for a few days...First week of summer, so we managed to avoid the High School and College families...Stepped in to encounter a very harsh hostess...We are a party of 4 1/2 (one 4-year-old) and asked for a table...She told us to wait for 20 minutes while we were staring at about 2 dozen completely empty tables...
"Can we sit there?.."I asked politely..."NO - that's reserved"..."May we put two tables together?"..(4-year-olds can have a tendency to not be patient)..."NO - that's against  code...But you may sit outside, if you want"..."Thank you, that's fine"..."That's also a 20 minute wait"..."???"...Everything was an argument...
After talking her into seating us (should one have to do that at a restaurant?), we witnessed her doing the same thing to each and every guest who entered...We were talking about this brash personality during our meal (one in our party was a psychotherapist)...Probably not the best person to greet people who first enter your establishment...
Anyway, on this 95* day, we were inside enjoying the air conditioning...Food was good, I've had better, but being from New York City, I know we're spoiled...However the view was great!..The place overlooks Cape Cod Bay, which is quite beautiful...Yet, as we were finishing our meal, we encountered a gust of humidity and many biting mosquitos!..Someone had opened the windows and without screens, bugs were getting inside...If joining two tables together for a larger party is 'against code', then surely screen doors must be as well...
All in all, an OK meal, not great...View was nice...But the Hostess / Maitre'd was a turn off...When in the area, I might stop in again, but I'd look for other places first...
Hemisphere has the best view in Sandwich. It had hands down the best mussels I've ever had in my life. Those were sauteed in some type of dijon sauce and I am still craving those a month after my vacation. Their nachos are an extraordinarily large serving too. It had a decent happy hour/late night crowd on a Friday night, but pretty much died down by 11pm. The servers were all very friendly too.
Review Source:I have had several great experiences at Hemisphere ! The servers are wonderful and always very friendly. They have a great drink menu with alot of fun cocktails ! The seafood scampi was delicious and my mother had the cape cod reuban and loved it ! We had nachos for an appetizer and they were HUGE ! The view is absolutely amazing and they are the only restaurant that is right on the water ! It is great to sit outside on the deck and enjoy the view on a sunny day. I would recommend hemisphere to all of my family and friends.
Review Source:A place for the view. Keep your order simple and stare at the canal. I ordered mussels. Â They were served with two firmly closed and several broken shells, slopppy kithcen work. And broth to salty to eat. Â My husband had the grilled pastrami and loved it. Service is adaquit for a casual place and they have never hurried us. Â We have gone once or twice a year for many years because it is lovely. Â Used to be called Horizon.
Review Source:Noisy as a train station, service slow as molasses, prices pretty ridiculous for mediocre food at best. Â View is nice, but only from indoors as no-seeums descend on diners out on the deck. Â
I ordered the Surf and Turf slider plate, which consisted of a beef slider which was so rare it almost mooed, a fish cake which was okay but a bit spicy, and a lobster roll which had almost no mayonaise and was rubbery. Â Oh and the sweet potato fries were cold and stale!
My daughter ordered the fish nuggets which were hot and fresh tasting, even though it took an hour to arrive at the table, and the salad I ordered was decent, but the vinagrette dressing had a strange maple syrup flavor.
Finally, as we were leaving at 9PM after two hours in this place, I noticed a band warming up. Â Thank God we left before they started playing because I think the additional noise would have made my head explode.
I wouldn't go back to Hemisphere if you paid me.
Slow service on a mildly busy day, great view of the cape cod canal, A+ clam chowder, and grilled Reuben that made me sick to my stomach and made me cringe at the very thought... Overall not a bad experience. Friendly staff and an atmosphere that's bland as a potato make what Sandwich residents and countless tourists during the spring and summer know as Hemisphere.
Review Source:Im a local and been here a handful of times. Set back and one of the few restaurants in Sandwich, its got a Great view from the outside deck.
1st day of summer review: chick ques app was ok - kinda bland but good chick n cheese. My cape codder salad w steaktips was perfect - good portion, good flavor, steaktips cooked just right. Pom margarita was ok. Everyone was very friendly. Only downfall to give it four stars - overpriced, but then again it's a seasonal restaurant.
Pretty location, but that's all.
They were out of everything I ordered...
The outside was incredibly buggy, but they warned us about that & let us move inside right away.
The worst was that I told the host that we were there for a birthday, he was going to tell out waitress, he said he told her, but she forgot....I wouldn't go there again.
We were there on Monday, the night after Irene passed by, and it was not crowded, perhaps understaffed too, which accounts for the really slow service we experienced.  Our dinners were uniformly overcooked.  The clam roll was chewy and tasteless, and the swordfish was dry and needed to be cut with a knife, not a fork as it should be. The two things we liked were fried onion strings and the Cape Cod Red ale on draft. I cannot recommend this place.  Too bad, because the location is great with a spectacular  view of the canal and Cape Cod Bay.  If you go, maybe have a drink on the deck, then eat somewhere else.
Review Source:Glad we were there when the weather was rainy. We had the place to ourselves and enjoyed watching the ships come through the canal while drinking and chatting with our lovely bartender.
Great place to sit and watch the water and ships. I don't think I would have liked it as much had it been crowded. Something nice about the rain and the solitude along with a bloody mary and clam chowder.
Been there when it was "Horizons" and returned under its new ID. Not much has changed. The view is the star attraction and the staff know it. Food is adequate and service is OK. As we sat near the window a motorized kite flier buzzed past, swinging his legs and waving. Â
You might be lucky too. Go in daylight in nice weather and don't expect a lot from the menu.
I am desperate for this place to develop some atmosphere and take advantage of their awesome location. Just think, you have ample parking, incredible view of the mouth of the canal, huge oil tankers and ships passing by, upper level access to a deck inside a huge bar with panoramic view of the Atlantic ocean and you have a lower level with direct access to the beach.
Reality is that the food is below average and atmosphere has been bland going back two owners at least. That being said, if you get a seat at the bar the bartenders are usually cool, the burgers are actually good, and they serve drinks, and it is a unique Cape Cod view from a barstool.
Came here with my brother to check the place out. the building and the view were quite impressive... As we were walking in a group of 4 angry people were walking out and as we passed them they said " good luck getting service, this place sucks"! we were thinking sarcastically " Great first impression" but we decided to stay. Â The menu wasn't at all what i was expecting..The place is categorized as a seafood restaurant but as I looked at the seafood selection its pretty much all fried, the rest of the menu was nothing impressive and very small with little selection. My brothers food came out ICE cold, the vegetable were practically still frozen! Luckily there was a full bar to keep us in good spirits, without that we would have been out the door like the people before us. Â All and all i would categorize this place as a Diner, because that's the quality of food and service you get which is a shame because it's an awesome location and building.
Review Source:It's always a pleasure to sit on the deck overlooking the Cape Cod Canal at Hemisphere Restaurant.  We go there often, but tonight we had the mussels Dijon appetizer which was fabulous!  When we had devoured the mussels, my husband asked the waitress to bring us some bread  to soak up all the delicious and flavorful juices left in the bowl.  (I did suggest to the waitress that they might include bread when they serve this dish). Add a glass of chardonnay and a beautiful summer sunset and you have quite a pleasurable evening. (not to mention the wedding taking place on the beach - lovely!)
Review Source:Despite plenty of coastline, it is surprisingly difficult to find ocean-side restaurants on Cape Cod. Hemisphere is the only one in the Sandwich area. On warm days, you can eat outside on the nice upstairs patio, where there is a panoramic view of the beach and ocean. Unfortunately, all other aspects of the experience are flawed. The chair height on the patio is such that view isa actually blocked by the railing for most people. The food is bad and the service is terrible.
Review Source:My sister had her wedding here last weekend. It was a great space, loved the covered patio area with the tables where you could get some air even though it rained. It's all windows downstairs so the backdrop of the beach could really be appreciated. Linens and such were included and we brought our own centerpieces. It looked very elegant.
She had the ceremony on the beach - a rocky beach but SO scenic at low tide! The little path leading down from the restaurant made for a great "aisle." (Beware - I saw a little poison ivy at the edges. Its a public beach so not the restaurants fault.)
The food was great  - they did a buffet (I had the lemon baked fish and salad, lemon bars for dessert), and the staff was awesome. Everything was so seamless and they were very unintrusive but friendly when you needed something. Bartender was fast.
The wedding was about 80 guests and the space was PERFECT. It felt intimate and the dancefloor was small enough not to be intimidating - people filled it all night long.
Very reasonable price for a wedding booked only a few months in advance during Cape Cod high season on a Saturday night. Â I think total with all included it was under 5k? They were so helpful and made it a perfect day for them. Highly recommended!
One of the best situated ocean-view restaurants on the entire Cape! Â Right on top of the water, with a big deck and large windows facing the ocean. Â 2 stories, with a few outdoor tables on the lower level. Â Nice sunset views from outside as well, looking back across the canal.
Great place to stop on the way home before leaving the Cape while waiting for Sunday traffic to die down. Â Tasty cocktails made with Nantucket's own Triple-Eight vodka. Â Fairly standard seafood/Cape Cod menu; food is not the draw here, the view is! Â Probably one of the few places where you can sit at the bar and look back and forth from the Sox on TV to the ocean right in front of you.
We went there the other day for lunch. Â GREAT VIEWS, indeed. Â It was a bit windy, so we sat inside. Â Started with the Mojitos, which were great. Â The food was good. Â Lobster Mac 'n Cheese was tasty. Â Fish Sandwich was good. Â Service was good, but the food took quite a long time to come out. Â It looks like a fun bar to go to at night, based on the crowd and noise level when I drove by on Friday night.
Review Source:This bar/restaurant located in Sandwich on the bay at the northeast end of the canal, has new owners and is now called Hemispheres.
The first floor is a function room; all the action is on the second floor, where you can sit along the outside deck, just inside the partition, at a large funky bar, or at inside booths and tables.
Drinks and food are about average, but the view is beyond wonderful. Customers range from tourist families to sports fans (there are tv's) to couple wanna-be's.
I'd stay on the safe side when ordering, although the Hemisphere specials might be better than Horizons were. Fishcakes, crabcakes, and fish sandwiches are done well.
On a nice day, sit outside with a margarita and watch the boat traffic and beachgoers. I could do that for hours.
