I love this place. Unlike some other reviews I think the prices here are reasonable for Aspen ribs are unusual as they are imported Danish ribs. These are small and I have never seen them anywhere else. They are outstanding have been here twice with large ski groups and everyone loved what they ordered.Wish it was in my town! Ribs, ribs, ribs!
Review Source:We have eaten here on several occasions, usually seating in the bar to watch sporting events. Today family & friends (6) got together for lunch & we received exceptional service. Our server was attentive, friendly and was always available when we needed something. Four out of six of us ordered the pulled pork sandwich - It's a healthy portion of pulled pork on a roll or garlic toast (highly recommended) along with great original & spicy sauces on the table to use on your sandwich & fries. Another favorite dish was the jalapeno cheddar sausage, which was very filling... Best deal in town is the HAPPY HOUR Â prices- $1.50 beer bottles & other specials...
Review Source:well what I say it does have the best BBQ ribs in Colorado that I have had so far. Always a good time going here, lots of good I've tried alot of the items here and always enoyed them all. The famous onion rings are ok, Ive liked everything here except the milkshake, just wasn't worth the price. On a weekend like Friday or Saturday get there early so you don't have to wait in line. Overall I would go back again, its on my bucket list for people to eat when they come to Denver
Review Source:Headline: best BBQ in Parker.
I'm not sure how I've neglected to review hickory house - it's a staple for lunch. Â The ribs are awesome. Â The smoked meats are delicious. Â The soft drinks come in take out cups. Â The bar is good for watching sports without the noise. Â It's no frills in a log cabin.
Today it's snowpocalypse 2013, and we've just got back from the mountains. Â So lunch is in order. Â I ordered the prime rib steak sandwich, which comes with fries and coleslaw. Â The coleslaw is without carrot, which is ok by me. Â I prefer it that way. Â It's one of the few coleslaws that I will eat straight up without anything else. Â The sandwich comes with a horseradish dressing, which is great for dipping the fries into. Â The fries themselves are crispy and not greasy. Â The meat in the sandwich has a nice sear on it but keeps the medium doneness on the inside. Â The toppings - lettuce, tomato and pickle slices - are a little weak. Â My wife ordered the protein power ribs - ribs and a salad. Â The salad is a little basic - nothing special. Â The ribs are fall of the bone delicious.
There are two sauces on the table - the smaller bottle is spicier, and my favorite. Â But both are good.
Overall, this is an outstanding place. Â I wish the "non-meat" options were better, but that may be asking a little too much. Â This is cheap ribs done right.
Terrible, I went this past week for the first time and got some pick up for the family. Â Paid almost $70 for the worst BBQ ever. What kills me is the place was packed. I guess being from Texas my BBQ standards are a lot higher. The brisket was fed to the dog. The chicken, we threw it away along with the crunchy potato salad and tasteless beans. Â My 7 yo boy and 5 to girl are two racks of ribs (there wasn't that much meat on them). Â Never ever again will I go back.
Review Source:Fun family place. Sauce has a apple sweetness to it. Reminds me a bit of the old Apple Tree Shanty. Great portions, great flavor, and a great staff. Ribs are wonderful, as is the Smoked pork. I did the 2 on their combo. Next time il mix  it up with chicken or beef. It's worth the drive.
Review Source:We tried this place a couple nights ago and we enjoyed it for the most part. It wasn't the best bbq i have had in the area but also not the worst either. I ordered their signature item, a slab of baby back ribs, and a mixed green salad. My girl had a combo with beef brisket and ribs with sides of slaw, potato salad and beans. Although the portion of ribs wasn't too large, the taste of the ribs were delicious and needed no extra sauce to enjoy. The beef brisket had no smoky flavor like you would expect from being smoked. My girl actually said that it tasted just like Lloyds bbq that you can buy at the grocery store. The beans were undercooked and did not taste good at all. The potato salad had a different taste to them than I am used to but not bland either. The slaw wasn't anything special either. The salad and blue cheese were both very fresh and delicious. I would recommend going to this place if you find a coupon because the portions are not worth the inflated prices.
Review Source:We went for lunch on a Sunday to use one of our Groupons that we had received that said it was good Thursday - Sunday. We called before going to the restaurant to make sure they would accept our Groupon (we have had issues with other Groupons in the past with different vendors so we wanted to make sure it would be honored). They said it was fine and we had our lunch.
Our bill comes and we give them our Groupon and they claim that they will have to charge us extra because it was before 6:00 PM. We called for the manager who was a completely rude woman. We explained how we called and made sure it was ok and now they want to do a bait and switch and charge us more for our lunch (thus eliminating the benefit of the Groupon). The manager was unwilling to work with us.
Be careful is you are using Groupons or coupons at this restaurant because they do not honor them as they should and when you talk with the manager you will be spoken down to and insulted. I can only hope the owner corrects this issue in the future because their food is good (although expensive without a coupon). You have been warned. Thanks.
Outstanding ribs! Â Not messy and falls right off the bone, and really meaty too. Â A full rack is good for one person because the plate comes with a few sides. Â The baked potato was good, cole slaw was ok, and the beans weren't anything special. Â I actually ignored the beans because they were still too firm. Â Try 1.5 racks if your dinner partner is getting something else, or split 2 racks between you. Â You can always get more.
I've been here twice, only because I bought an internet deal for the two occasions. Â The first time I went it was sometime during Mon-Thurs at 7PM and it took 20 mins to get seated. Â The second time, same days and at 7:40 and we sat right away.
I recommend this place, and when you see an internet deal for it, get it right away!
I think two stars is generous for this place. I LOVE BBQ. My girl is from St. Louis and I am from North Carolina, so we both know good BBQ. There's a sign out fron that says this is the "Best BBQ in Colorado". My girl joked that the quote was from the owner. We got a rack of ribs and pulled pork and they let you add another full rack of ribs for less than what it would normally cost--if I'm making any sense. Their sides are small, we got baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad....not sure they asked us if we wanted the first two, but whatever. We also got a side of texas toast, which came with 3 pieces for about a dollar and 50 cents..not bad. Maybe it's just because we got there kind of late---after 8 I think---but our food was not good at all. We were both very disappointed. I can handle my food not being good, but guess what? My sweet tea also was not very sweet. C'mon, really? The ribs were dry, the least you could do was give me something to wash it down with besides tea that tasted like it had been sitting in a metal pitcher for about a week. Ugh...the whole thing was a disaster. Maybe you'll have better luck earlier in the day if you end up going, who knows? We most likely won't be back to find out.
Review Source:I was disappointed in this place. Both our host and our server seemed to hate their jobs. Service was slow. The food was mediocre: ribs were only ok (Big Jim's and Texas Roadhouse have better ribs), Baked potato was dry with all of the toppings prepackaged on the side, and Texas Toast was flavorless. The décor was nice and the over feeling of the place very appropriate (Texas/BBQ themed). I just wish the food was better. We probably won't go back.
Review Source:Tonight was my first time here, I love me some BBQ so I was excited. I went for the Beef Brisket Dinner and the meat, IMO, was fantastic. I wasn't too enamored with the baked beans, seemed a little bland for a BBQ joint but I added BBQ sauce to it like I always seem to do and it was good. Potato salad was tasty, again, just a tad bland but neither of these is a game changer. Also, finally found a place in Colorado that serves sweet tea! It was yummy. My girlfriend had ribs which I tasted, they were pretty tasty but I'm not much into ribs.
The staff were all cool, lots of people smiling and that sets a nice tone for the place. I'll definitely go back.
We had to try BBQ while we were in Colorado, so we ended up at Hickory House Ribs. The bar was full of Denver Broncos fans watching football, so needless to say the atmosphere was festive.
The food was pretty good. The ribs had a nice flavor, but I felt like the beans were nothing special. Christopher had the jalapeno cheddar sausages. I tried them. They were nice and spicy without being overwhelming.
Soda was served in large plastic souvenir cups and they were refilled to take home before leaving. It was a very nice touch. The service was very friendly and very efficient.
The decor was western style (of course) and the place seemed clean, even on a busy Sunday night. It was a nice way to experience Colorado BBQ.
If I could give them -4 stars I would! This place was aweful....I WILL NEVER GO BACK! Ordered take-out for the first time here today 9-1-12 and was so disappointed that we re-ordered with the hope that it would be better the 2nd time around and yet it was even worse! Spent 40 some dollars for hardly anything at all!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place at all and I NEVER will eat there again!! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed for being the best ribs in all of colorado I would choose chilis OVER this palce because at least I get a descent portion there and it costs a lot less!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK! DON't eat here NOT worth it!!
Review Source:I've heard so much about this place so it has been on my list of places to visit. I didn't  try the oh-so famous ribs (that's my son's department) but I did have a plate of brisket with a side of au gratin potatoes and caesar salad. I enjoyed the brisket and spice barbecue sauce, the caesar salad, and the toast. The au gratin potatoes were unique. Instead of the sliced rounds that you normally find with au gratin potatoes, the potatoes were cut more like mini spaghetti pasta pieces. The potatoes themselves were good but I couldn't really enjoy the fully due to the very mushy bread  crumbs they seem to back on top of the batch. I don't like soggy bread so this didn't work for me.
My dinner partner had the prime rib which was less than pleasing. The comment was made that it was made better at home so ... *shrugs*
I will visit again to treat my son to their ribs. We love the ribs from Big Pappas's so I am very interested to see if the Hickory House ribs live up to the hype.
Until then...
I must not "get" barbecue. Â I've been to KC and tried the best they have to offer which I'm told is some of the highest ranked in the country, and it was just OK. Â Nothing to sit and drool over or even think about if someone needs a recommended place to eat.
Hickory House was more of that same feeling for me. Â I had a full rack of baby back ribs and a side of onion rings, and to be honest the onion rings were the best part. Â The ribs were reasonably tender, but I just must be missing something about this crazy good, eyes rolling into the back of your head feeling everyone has when they eat barbecue.
I ate alone in the back bar and the hostess and bartender gal were very very friendly and patient with me as I navigated the menu that will make you dizzy if you look at it too long. Â The front section looked very busy and full of noisy kids so I didn't mind at all being in the back where it was quiet and I could eat in peace.
We first tried the Hickory House in Aspen after an Oprah recommendation. Â It was bear season and the restaurant had a picture of a bear on their signage and on the porch next door there was a real bear sitting there watching diners. Â It was amazing. Â A few years ago, the out-laws (I mean in-laws) moved from Tucson to Parker. Â The restaurant was a family destination many times. Â My husband and I are not big on barbeque and we are no experts. Â We do like Hickory House.
Review Source:OK, I just don't get it. Â The Hickory House is always packed, but my experience has been that the food is mediocre at best. Â I have eaten there about five times since moving to Parker last year. Â I have a passion for BBQ, and this is literally the only game in town. Â I have eaten a lot of BBQ in my day and even have my own smoker, and I can honestly say that most of the food at the Hickory House is sub-par. Â I do think the ribs are good, and if you hit them on the right day you can get a good deal on a rack, but don't waste your money on the pulled pork. Â Mostly I have been there for lunch by myself, and have ordered the ribs with fries. Â The ribs are good, but not spectacular. Â The garlic toast is pretty dry and flavorless and the fries are just ok. Â
My wife thought she would treat me by purchasing a groupon for the Hickory House. Â We took the whole family there and were all dissatisfied with our meals. Â That time I ordered a baked potato (which are not offered at lunch) and it wasn't hot enough to melt the butter. Â My wife had a pulled pork sandwich which she described as roast pork with some barbeque sauce on it. (No smoky flavor at all.) Â I might go back there again if desperate for ribs, but my wife will not eat there again. Â It was just a big overpriced disappointment.
I recommend heading up 470 to Smokey Hill Road. Â There is a Jim 'n Nick's BBQ there at the shopping center that is far superior in quality to the Hickory House.
This where you drop to your knees and pray to the Greek God of pork, Porciniuous.
Busy, hectic, happy faux rustic, wood smoked, finger licking, corn breaded Bar-B-Gasms.
I had a big ass steak and my wife had a little filet, succulent and delicious. The side ares great too and the beverages are served in glasses that could water a 500 person town for three weeks.
The brisk service was vaguely friendly but highly efficient. This place rocks like an 80-'s hair band baby.
This place is nothing like Seasons 1-5 of the X-Files, there is no mystery behind their success. Â Hickory house provides very healthy portions, ribs that are almost as soft and tender as fat floppy eared rabbit's fur, and some respectable ambiance. Â Whoever is managing this place deserves big thumbs up for their ability to locate, hire, and train staff that provides a great experience.
If you haven't been out to the "mean streets" of Parker, it's worth the drive.
My only complaint is that their "spicy BBQ sauce" tastes a little bit like, well....black licorice and sweaty waffles. Â Work on your spicy sauce recipe Hickory House, your current blend of ingredients is a disappointment to say the least.
Eh, went with friends and it wasn't bad, but it certainly did not live up to the hype they'd been giving it.
The sides were meh and I had a protein combo with beef, pork and chicken. Pretty standard with basic sauce on top. The spicy sauce was better, but nothing mind blowing. Of course, I didn't have the ribs and that seems to be the golden ticket.
I'd go again if I were outvoted, but otherwise, wouldn't miss it.
LOVE THIS PLACE! Â There is nothing better than their spicy black bean burger and onion rings. Â And their shakes are so yummy! Â Friends we've taken there (and family) love the BBQ beef and chicken, too, and the people in there are always friendly to us.
One word of advice, though....if you live within about 10 minutes, takeout is usually a good idea if you are going to eat there in the evening. Â The parking is very tricky and it is always crowded. Â Some lunch days are very busy, as well, so if you can go outside the "peak lunch hour", you'll probably have a better experience.
My experiences at Hickory House have been very inconsistent over the years. Â I went here quite a bit when they first opened. Â I thought it was pretty good back. Â Then, when they were offering coupons with full steak dinners at a reasonable price, I started going even more frequently, and was quite happy. Â After a while, I kind of lost of my taste for the place. Â The barbecue here is decent, but nothing special. Â They only offer a regular (mild), and a spicy (medium) sauce. Â By contrast, Famous Dave's has a plethora of sauces (and the Devil's Spit really gets your attention).
I was kind of down on Hickory House the last few years, when I mostly started doing takeout. Â They always have some sort of coupon going on, and there are frequently competing coupons. Â But, it can be very confusing trying to figure which is the best deal. Â This one has two of these, but this one has chicken, but this one is throwing in extra stuff, but this one is $4.73 less . . . don't get me wrong, I love coupons for local businesses. Â But a straight 10% or 15% off coupon would be much less complicated, and probably just as popular. Â The takeout food never seems as good as when you eat it there. Â The ribs seems much less juicy, the chicken seems bland and stringy, and the sides are cold. Â To be fair, they are upfront in saying, "we don't recommend you get fries on a takeout order, because they do not hold up well." Â And these tips are appreciated. Â
I went here tonight because I had a Groupon expiring soon.  I bought the one that is only good Sun-Thurs (dine in only), and they are strict about this.  If you come before 6pm you get the early bird menu and happy hour drinks, and this is a significant savings.  We enjoyed 1/2 price beers, a $2 order of spicy onions rings that was big enough for two  (and they are solid "B" onion rings).  We also both had a full slab of baby back ribs that came with choice of potato (or corn), beans, coleslaw, and Texas toast.  This was a ton of food, and it tasted pretty darn good tonight . . . WAY, WAY, better than the last few times I had takeout. Â
My recommendation if you do insist on getting takeout would be to get containers of the pulled pork, and the beef (avoid the sausage and chicken), maybe a few sides, pick up a pack of hamburger buns from the grocery store, and enjoy your sammiches with the bottle of sauce that Hickory House will throw in for you.
Definitely some of the best ribs I have had. I ate everything instead of leaving half on the bones like I normally do. I will go back for sure. The smoked pork was great and my husband loved the catfish.
The coleslaw and onion rings were both good. The baked beans are OK.
The chocolate cake is great.
LOVE this place, and I can't believe I don't have a review written here since I've been at least 10 times in the last year.
The list of "don't miss" items... beef brisket sandwich, potatoes al gratin, local beers on tap and of course the baby back ribs.
Just love this place, great atmosphere, great staff and the food is awesome.
Two locations: one in Aspen and this one in Parker. Good western atmosphere and they have a bar in the back.
The ribs are ok, I still prefer the rib tips at Famous Dave's. The portion is definitely on the small side but the price is fair especially if you get the coupons through local mail.
The ribs here are delicious!  It's a pet peeve of mine when a barbecue joint sells ribs that take forever to eat because you can't get all the meat off, and that was not a problem with this place  The meat just fell off the bone. Â
The sauces here are also perfect. Â I'm extremely picky about barbecue sauce- I don't like too much vinegar or too much sweetness, and their house sauce strikes a perfect balance.
On one visit I just was not feeling like barbecue but everyone else was, so I ordered the Sirloin.  It was cooked perfectly and had great mesquite flavor.  I also had the jalapeño cheddar sausage and it was also very good.
Overall this is some great barbecue!
Wow, went in for lunch with low expectations and was blown away by the service and portion size.
This place isn't hidden, but for some reason I never chose to swing by. Sure glad I did, their pulled pork was excellent and the sides were phenomenal.
I will warn, (maybe it was the day,) but the ribs weren't all that. The sauce was good, but you really had to work them of the bone.
Just my two cents.
Oh Hickory house, why do you have to be so far away from me? Your baby backs are so tender and the peppery onion rings make my mouth water just thinking about  it. I wished i had a bigger stomach just so i can try a little bit of everything on your menu all at once, so we got one of the combos and added a rack of ribs or something like that.
The chicken was smoked to perfection and not overdone like most smoked chicken! The baked beans didn't stand out at all so that was the last to be eaten. I love this place and there is a lot on the menu to choose from. I think if you're going to come here, you should look at the online menu before you go. This birthday dinner was the best birthday dinner, ever!!! Â
For those of you that are claustrophobic or agoraphobic, take your medicine before you go in there,  It's a mess.
Delicious smokey aromas drift across Hickory House's parking lot to greet you before you even get close to walking through the doors. Brightly-colored wagons and old agricultural equipment decorate the exterior, and the outside eating area is lined with pretty hanging baskets and window boxes. What a cute place!
The inside is cozy with lots of wood panelling, Western-themed prints, and all kinds of pictures, signs and knick knacks from days gone by. It's been done a million times before, and I'm sure a lot of people would think it pretty lame, but I really liked it.
We both chose a combo meal (me - half rack of ribs and spicy link sausage; him - half rack of ribs with smoked beef; $12.99 each) with baked potatoes, baked beans, coleslaw and Texas toast. The sides were decent but not overly-spectacular (the beans were a touch too firm and the spud hadn't been washed thoroughly, but the slaw was tasty and seemed homemade). The meats, however, were fabulous! Though pretty damn tiny (the half "rack"was about the width of the toast), the ribs were smokey in flavor, slightly crispy and burnt on the outside but the meat was moist and succulent inside. I didn't feel the need to slather them in sauce at all. The link was, without doubt, the best I have ever tasted - not too spicy but hearty and meaty with an amazingly "snappy" casing. Soooo good... His smoked beef looked more like pulled pork but it was tender and smokey flavorful.
Service could have been a little more attentive but there was nothing to really gripe about. HH is my favorite 'que joint in Denver so far. I can't wait to go back and stuff my face with more of their links! 4.5 stars!
Edit 06.06.10: We eat here about once a month, and imo it's the best place ever. The service is usually a bit aloof but we've never had a bad meal. The sides are a bit meh but the meats - especially the hot links and brisket - are phenomenal.
Edit 01.08.11: The food continues to be 5 star in my book, but I'm knocking off a star for the persistently crummy service. The majority of kids just aren't that friendly, aren't efficient, and don't seem to especially want to be there. Doesn't put us off the grub though.
