At 10:30 AM on a Saturday, the free parking next door was full, so we parked on the street. Â It's always a good sign when the parking lot is full, although I'm sure some of those cars were parked in the area for other reasons. The restaurant had a stylish interior with a simple but upscale appearance. Alternative pop music was lightly playing on the in-house speakers. The staff were dressed in all black and were numerous, buzzing about, to and fro. Â Our service was just OK, but for some reason I'd expected it to be better. I ordered the "Bacon Avo" omelet, which was just that, a basic omelet with bacon, avocado and a generous amount of jack cheese. It came with a side of fruit which was mostly honeydew melon, which I hate for its odd flavor and "cheap filler" status on fruit plates, but I digress. Â I was offered a side of toast or an English muffin, but was unpleasantly surprised to find on the bill, that the muffin had cost me a dollar more. Tsk, tsk. The overpriced and slyly up-charged muffin tasted fine. Â My partner ordered a breakfast parfait that arrived in a wine glass. Â The berries, granola and yogurt were fresh and presented well. Â He also ordered an English muffin on the side, which was an additional TWO dollars. Tsk again. Â We noticed that Hicks & McCarthy has a lunch and dinner menu and will likely be back to see how things go later in the day. Â I just hope to avoid any more surprises on the check.
Review Source:After posting the review below, I got a message from the owner asking for more info so he could follow up with his staff. This is  a sign to me of a restaurant focused on providing good customer service (even if occasional glitches occur). I've adjusted my rating to reflect just the food (which was good) and will likely give Hicks & McCarthy another try.

Stopped in for lunch. Pluses: Stella on tap, decent sandwich (chicken Waldorf on multigrain). Minus: service nonexistent. Is it that hard to check in on your customers once after serving them to see if everything's ok - or at least to bring a check after they've finished eating?
