Whoo hoo! Large portions, yummy meat, and a great atmosphere. We stopped in as we were leaving town after a wedding and it more than hit the spot. The ambiance was great, everything from the growing in the middle of the addition to the animal heads that adorned the walls.
The menu is vast and the woman at the registrar was very helpful navigating it. I ordered a two meat plate I came nowhere close to finishing and he ordered a three meat plate. The sides were served in huge portions and I loved my potato salad and my boyfriend had an interesting potato casserole.
It was true BBQ and very easy to enjoy. A great meal to finish a great weekend!
It was quite a distance from where we were staying, but my Dad insisted that we take the drive to check out this BBQ place that he had seen before right off of the highway. Â I had the deluxe lunch platter which was 3 meats and 3 sides. Â My three meats were sausage, beef brisket, and port ribs. Â My three sides were baked beans, mustard greens, and potato salad. Â It also came with white bread, pickles, and onions. Â The meats were good, but not amazing. Â Sides were good, but once again not amazing. Â I've had BBQ at Goode & Company and I'm thinking it might be slightly better, but I'd have to go back to really compare. Â I'd recommend if you're in the area.
Review Source:I went to here for Dinner with my boss after he told me he had eaten there the night before. He was very excited about it and told me that it was more like the Tennessee style Bar-B-Q that he knew. I will say that it was pretty good but not great. The meat had a smokey flavor to them that some of the other Bar-B-Q places didn't have but the sides were limited (mostly some version of a salad). All and all not a bad place but not great...maybe I just don't have a taste for Tennessee Bar-B-Q.
Review Source:Ate here this past Thursday afternoon, it was mediocre. I drive by this establishment a few times a month and decided to hit it up - end result much disappointment.
I had sweet tea (good), lunch plate ( a bit over $12), had brisket, sausage, potato salad and beans. Onions, pickles, bread and bar-b-q sauce came with the order. The service was fine.
The brisket was about 2 long strips cunt into 6 pieces and was quiet thin. Also, it was dry, pretty dry, not sure if it was the end of the day left over's or they over cooked it. I have never had this dry of a brisket in my life, might of made for a good sandpaper. The sausage was ehhh, not really to my liking, dry as well. The beans were good, potato salad and bar-b-q sauce was excellent. Maybe I should of ordered the moist brisket - not really sure they have that option (have to be fair to the establishment), some place do have this and those which I have frequented usually ask the customer when they order if that is what they want-that was not asked here.
Must say they have a large selection of foods but there are trixy rules with this plate you can only order this and this, while on this plate you can order only this etc blaa, blaa and blaa. Did not know I was going to have to put that much effort into ordering food - think I was playing Wheel of Fortune or something of the sort.
Maybe one day I might venture back here but there is another bar-b-q establishment up the road, probably try that before I give this one another chance.
I stopped here on my way to Victoria, TX. Â The atmosphere is exactly what you want from a locally owned, country, bbq joint. Â The building was actually built around two huge oak trees! Â The food was good, but nothing to write home about. Â It certainly hit the spot, though. Â They make sure that you do not go home hungry! Â I pass Hinze's often when I'm traveling through TX; I will stop again.
Review Source:Some of the best BBQ in the state. I loved the brisket and ribs. I was also surprised to find out the sides tasted as good as the meat! Try the carrot salad and the butter beans and finish it off with some pie.
Food was so good we bought several pounds to bring pack home with us. Even though I live in Pasadena and it about an hour and twenty minutes from my home I will go back to Wharton just to go eat..
Another weekend, another far flung trip to the "country" to run another (in what has become numerous) errand. While I complain a little for the drive time, discovering a new BBQ joint makes it worth the time & gas.
Our errand took us to Wharton, the birthplace of Dan Rather (something we learned during our visit). Sitting off of 59 is Hinze's Bar-B-Q restaurant. The first thing that caught my eye were the two massive trees growing out of the roof. Having something unique like this usually gets me curious enough to visit. This place is the typical order at the bar and they call your number type of place. The menu offers more than bbq, they also offer chicken fried steak, fried catfish & shrimp. Their standard plate comes with 2 meats & 3 sides for a little over $8. For those with a smaller appetite they have what is called a Ladies Plate which has 1 meat and 2 sides. Their selection of sides extends way beyond a typical bbq joint. They have the standards plus fried okra, English pea salad, black eyed pea salad, bacon-onion potatoes, etc.
Feeling piggish, I ordered ribs, sausage, beans, coleslaw & fried okra. H ordered brisket, ribs, potato salad, beans & fried okra. We got our drinks and walked around the big interior of the restaurant looking at the hunting trophies that adorn the place. It is quite a collection and kept us amused until our number was called. Oh and I got to check out the trees. They built bench seating around them, pretty cool looking.
The serving of meats are a little skimpy compared to other places but the sausage was excellent and the ribs were ok to good. They use a rub on the ribs made a beautiful crust. The bbq sauce is served on the side along with the complimentary piece of white bread. The bread looked and tasted homemade, so kudos for them for taking the extra step there. The bbq sauce was tangy and slightly sweet, really great with the ribs. The coleslaw was vinegar based and oh so delicious! Beans were average good. The two stand outs for the sides was the fried okra and the potato salad. The okra was fried hard (in other works really crunchy & not slimy) and the potato salad rivals my mother's. A lady at the next table had a slice of lemon meringue pie. The meringue sat about 4" high and it looked sinfully good. The way she was guarding her slice from the other people at the table, I am assuming it is sinfully good.
This place had a steady flow of take out business while we were there and was packed for 4pm. So it seems the locals really dig this place. If you ever find yourself out in that part of the woods, drop in you will enjoy it.
