On my way down south I stopped here to grab a quick bite. I ordered the sliced brisket sandwich, potato salad and sweet tea. Price was a little over $10, it was good. Bar-b-q sauce was good and the service was pretty quick. If you're thinking this is a sit down and serve you kind of place your mistaken. The brisket was good, moist just right, the lean brisket looked dry like any lean brisket.  This is a very casual but very friendly establishment.

The BBQ meats were excellent, the coconut meringue pie was heavenly. However, the sauerkraut was raw and sour, like it came out of a can, it was not in any way prepared and ready to serve as a side dish as far as I am concerned. There was no diet cola, only diet Dr. Pepper. The bathrooms had gotten overrun. It was an uneven experience.

I went to here for Dinner with my boss after he told me he had eaten there the night before. He was very excited about it and told me that it was more like the Tennessee style Bar-B-Q that he knew. I will say that it was pretty good but not great. The meat had a smokey flavor to them that some of the other Bar-B-Q places didn't have but the sides were limited (mostly some version of a salad). All and all not a bad place but not great...maybe I just don't have a taste for Tennessee Bar-B-Q.

p.s:I now think its kinda not far that there are two review places for this restaurant

We catered food here for my daughter's first birthday party and everyone raved about the food!!  This place was recommended to us by family as we were coming from out of town and had to communicate via email. Everything went smoothly and everything was ready to be picked up at said time. We had more than enough food for our 30 guests. Great experience and next time we visit fam in the area we r definitely coming here again!

Cute place, the stuffed animals are pretty amazing. Quick service even when busy. Lots of people there even @ 4 pm on Sunday, another good sign.
Food was really good - slaw, Mac & cheese, even the okra was above-standard.  BBQ, of course was great as well.  Either great quality or I was just Really hungry.

And they gave me a free slice of pie...no idea why (maybe was close to closing and they were going to be thrown out?) but still awesome.  Took to go as I was too full for dessert, but had it later & it was pretty good, even though I'm not generally a pie fan..

Delicious BBQ, sort of a long drive down 59 from Houston proper...but when it comes to excellent bbq, proper won't do. Got some on the way home from boy scout camping down in Lake Texana. Just need to make more room in the fridge so I can order more! I wish they had an excellent peach cobbler on that day to make my bbq fantasy come true. I guess I might have to make do or make one myself!

Excellent, excellent bbq joint. When you walk in, there's a very quaint, down-home feel to the entrance, and you order right there at the counter (like most bbq joints). I ordered a ladies plate with one meat and two side, and it was just under $7 with tax. The staff was super friendly and quick to get our order ready - we didn't have to wait long at all even though the place was packed.

Luckily most of the people I went with ordered different sides and meats from me, so I was able to taste a little bit of everything. Their bbq sauce definitely stood to more above all else; it was the perfect amount of sweet, spice and texture, and I think I could make a strong argument that it's the best in Texas. The carrot salad was very tasty and had chopped pecans in it, and the potatoes were good but could have used a little less mustard. The green beans were very good; tender and not over-seasoned. The cole slaw was a little sour but fresh and crunchy.

For meats, I ordered the brisket, and while some people might like their brisket a little more trimmed, it was perfect for me - tender, great smoke ring, and not a dry inch to be found. The sausage was very flavorful and the ribs were very tender and juicy, but a little slim on the meat. All plates came with homemade bread slices which were delicious.

One of my favorite things about this place was the very cool atmosphere - the main dining area had two giant pecans or oaks growing through the up from the floor and to the ceiling, and there were plenty of big windows to let lots of light in.

While I've had better bbq in Memphis, this was definitely the best in Texas and I highly recommend it!

Really excellent barbeque and generous portions...not particularly expensive, but this isn't a bargain place to go.  Excellent meat and sides, but the meat may be slightly oversmoked for some tastes...VERY smoky taste, but rich tasting and good cuts of meat, not dried out or with a chewy texture.

This place was amazing!  5 stars based on food, price, and atmosphere.  The Lunch Plates are served for dinner.  The meat was excellent, and side were totally decent.  For a BBQ joint over cooked veggies are almost expected.  The slice of bread on the side was fresh and homemade.  For $10 I was completely stuff and happy with the money spent.
My co-worker and I were so impressed  we even went back the next day for lunch.  The decor is very authentic for east Texas.  This is a fantastic dive not to be missed!

I usually write very long reviews, not this time:

    BEST. BBQ. EVER.

This is one of the best BBQ joints in Texas.  This place could give Carl's in Houston a run for it's money.

The decor is very backwood-sy, and the parking lot is full of pot holes.  When it rains, the parking lot is a lake.  Inside, stuffed animals ranging from Moose, to duck, and to bobcats line the walls.  I remember coming here on high school academic or debate and theater meets.  People would stick beans in the nose of the animals.  See pics above.

The meat here is excellent.  Flavorful.  Tender.  Smokey.  Moist, but not at all greasy.  So delicious.  I always took this type of barbecue for granted.  Now, I cherish it.  A major difference I found between moist brisket here and at popular places in Austin is the grease factor.  Salt Lick has moist brisket, but it is dripping in grease and fat.  Ew...gross.  Hinze is moist without the calories.

The sides here are also pretty tasty.  Try the bacon and onion potatoes.  Have the mac and cheese.  Yummmmmy!  Also, the prices here are very reasonable.  While you might pay around $10 for a plate with 2 meats and 2 sides at many places, Hinze is just under $8 for 2 meats and 2 sides.  With those size servings, I can turn that into 4 meals easily.
