After trekking the 21-mile walk in Lake Geneva, I was elated to see Hogs & Kisses for some food and drink, it was MUCH needed.
There were just a couple of setbacks.. though our waitress was the cutest thing and super nice, the place just lacked great "customer service", if you will. Â So if you want a sandwich/burger you only get LAYS chips for your side, and if you want fries its $1 and if you want sweet potato fries its $3.29 -- um excuse me you are crazy!!! Â To have Lays chips really ticked me off inside, I am not eating a lunch box meal people. Â Can't you make homemade chips? Â I usually have no problem upgrading to Sweet Potato Fries, but never have I ever seen a $3 charge. Â Anywho... out comes my crab cake dinner and they were TINY.. and only on a flimsy piece of white bread. Â Could they not dish out a nice roll or something? Â Especially for $12 I was expecting WAY more. Â The place was lucky I was hungry. Â Not only was my meal small, my husbands "wrap" was the size of my fist, pretty laughable. Â The normal fries were pretty dang good...
Drinks were strong (I do appreciate that) and food did come out really quick. Â
The shut the kitchen down by 8 o'clock because they place starts to turn into a club AND they have a not hat policy at 10.
Will I be back? Â Maybe.. that's the only thing I really dislike about LG, they really jack up prices cause its a tourist spot.
We were across the street at Lake Aire, left that place because it was horrible. Â Ended up at Hogs & Kisses. Â I was really in the mood for ribs, they were really good!! Â My husband had the chili. Â He said it was a layer of cheese like you have on French Onion soup, really good.
The only reason for 3 stars, and I really thought about this because I want it to be 4 stars... The table was very tiny. VERY! The French fries were out of the bag, frozen. Â Table size truly can't change, so that was a small factor. Â But the fries, come on, homemade is not that difficult. Â Upgrade those bad boys and the rating will go up to 4 in a heartbeat. Â I will certainly go back, I just wish the fries were done with a bit more care!
This place is tiny but it seems to be the only "happening" place in Lake Geneva. It was perfect for my friends bachelorette party but some of the bartenders have a chip on their shoulder. Probably because they can tell that we're from Chicago. The one instance that stands out in my mind is one of the girls who was sitting in someones seat. Really? Are we in high school and we're suppose to know that the bar stools are designated for certain regulars. Biatch! We are drinking too. Oh well, who care, we still had fun.
Review Source:This is one of the first times where I've been really torn about the star rating, so I'm going with three, but I thought long and hard about a four. Â Let's go to the pros and cons.
Pros:
1. Â Incredible grilled chicken sandwiches. Â Just about every casual place in the U.S. has some manner of grilled chicken sandwich on their menu. Â I've sampled a lot of them, and Hogs & Kisses has the best. Â The chicken tasted like it was cooked on a grill outside and then brought straight to our table.
Cons:
1. Â There's really only one glaring pro.
2. Â The place seems to attract a very loud crowd. Â I was there during lunch, and if that's any indication, you must have to scream to be heard late night.
3. Â You have to pay an extra dollar for fries instead of chips. Â I'm sorry, but I hate it when places do this.
4. Â My wife and I asked to have the check split, and when the waitress brought them back, she made some sort of comment about it being lots of paperwork when she's busy. Â Seemed a bit snide if you ask me. Â Anything approaching rude service is a big warning flag for me.
I can't stress again how great the sandwich was, so if I'm back through Lake Geneva again, I would consider going back despite the other issues.
This place had really good food for really good prices. As soon as we got there our waitress sat us by the window. She was very nice and made sure everything was going smoothly. She got our orders right away. My boyfriend and I had a great burger and brat for $20 total including drinks. I highly recommend this place.
Review Source:Since the weather was so nice outside last Saturday, we decided to visit Lake Geneva and get some lunch. I really wanted fudge so I was excited!! Because the weather was so nice it got very crowded and parking is limited, we just happened to be in the right spot at the right time to get a parking spot with no wait. We were trying to figure out where to eat and saw Hogs & Kisses, took a look at thier menu and thought it had something for everyone. We walked in and got a table right away. Our waitress Kimberlie was really nice and always around asking if we needed anything. She took our drink order and gave us(I should say me) a little more time to figure out what we wanted. I ended up getting the veggie burger on wheat bread with regular fries. To upgrade the chips to fries it is an extra 99 cents, well worth it. The fries were really crispy and awesome. They also offer sweet potato fries or a side salad as an upgrade too. My veggie burger was good, nothing amazing. My Aunt got the pulled pork and she said that was one of the best pulled pork sandwiches she has had in a long time, so next time I will be trying the pulled pork out!!
The prices are very reasonable for a tourist place, my whole meal was under 10 bucks, I didnt think that was bad at all.
We are planning another trip in August and Hogs & Kisses is a for sure on our list!!
Gave this place 3 stars just because my experience was just average. It was my first time to Lake Geneva so I yelped where to eat and this place got some good reviews and that was fine with me .
As stated, it's American traditional food. Burgers and such. They had a special on oysters so I ordered half a dozen for about 7 bucks. They were alright. Not sure why I got them since i'm not really fond of it.
I asked the server which burger was the best and she recommended the Paradise burger. It was pretty good. onion straws and bbq sauce. If you want fries though, it's an extra dollar. An extra 3 bucks if you want sweet potato fries. Otherwise you're stuck with a bag of lays or a small scoop of coleslaw. Um....that's pretty lame. I thought they had special chips or something but not, was a small bag of Lays.
We stopped in here while shopping to have a couple drinks and a little snack, thankfully right before a rush. There is not a whole lot of seating in here, and there is probably not a good chance of getting a window seat.
Our server was nice, but incredibly slow. Waiting for mixed drinks is totally understandable, but waiting for a bottle of beer that simply needs to be opened is not cool. The beer selection was ok, nothing too fancy was available. They had Pacifico, which I appreciated.
The only food we got was a small plate of nachos and they were totally not worth the 5 or 6 bucks we paid for them. They appeared to be tortilla chips with shredded cheese microwaved on top of them. I literally could have gone out and bought a bag of chips and a bag of shredded cheese for less than the price of those measly nachos. I understand that there is an up-charge at restaurants, but that was a little ridiculous. Just sayin.
The ambiance was full of natural old wood and bikers, and the people were nice. Ok to hang out at I guess, but I wouldn't trust the food.
Great cougar bar and the most popular bar in Lake Geneva. Â Crowded and noisy! Most people stop here AFTER going to the Sugar Shack strip club to check out the action. Â During summer season and on weekends there is a line to get in. Â If you like it loud and crowded it is the place to be other than Champ's and Carvetti's. Â These are the three must places in Lake Geneva at night.
Review Source:Man, I really don't know about this place. A dance club in Lake Geneva? Say what?!?!
I recently went there on a Saturday around 10 p.m., and the place was super-crowded with a bunch of bachelorette parties and creepy European guys who like to hit on them. I guess I didn't realize that Lake Geneva is such a hub for bachelorette parties, but it is. Many of the girls were wearing nightclubbing outfits while some were more casual. It doesn't look like there's a dress code, so anything goes.
It was super-loud in there. The had a DJ playing music, which was pretty good. People seemed to be having a good time. It wasn't really my scene, but I could see how it might be fun for a bachelorette party.
If I'm in Lake Geneva again, I probably won't be stopping by Hogs & Kisses, but it was an OK time and I can see why some people might like it.
Everywhere I go I have to check out the bar/club scene and yes that even means good old Wisconsin. I was in Lake Geneva during 4th of July weekend. The bf and I needed to booze it up a little bit and dance so this was the only place that looked decent. The drinks are fairly priced compared to Chicago. They also have 312 beer on tap which is a plus for my bf since that's his fave beer. My voda soda was pretty decent. The dj played some old school top 40 and new school top 40. We requested 2 songs that the dj didn't play. Not cool. The dance floor was empty in the begining, but we didn't care. After a few drinks we were the only people dancing and shortly after people followed. I think I boozed it up too much because I don't remember the drive back to where we were staying.
Review Source:Really?! With a name like that how could I not stop in for a drink or two. Personally I like run down beat up kind of bars like this, I think they have character. Don't get me wrong, I prefer clean run down bars of which it is. Lucky or unlucky for me (pending what you like) I came in during the day and in the "off-season" so there were only a few people. I hear this place gets bumping at night being that it's the only "dance" club around. I had a chance to glance the menu and at a few people's dishes, it's your standard greasy bar food so I passed. I will say that the bartender was a little rough around the edges but still she was friendly enough.
Not a bad place to grab a drink but enter at your own risk after sun down.
Under normal circumstances, this definitely wouldn't be the type of place I'd choose for a Saturday night out... but I was in town with a group of friends for one of their bachelorette parties, and this is exactly the type of establishment that screams bachelorette party. Â And they offer free champagne and leis to bachelorette parties, so what more could you ask for? Â
Seriously, it's a loud, crowded meat market-type joint with a teeny tiny dance floor that's filled with a lot of drunk people. Â But I'll admit it--it was a good time. Â Would I do it again sober? Â Absolutely not.
Given the name, I was pleasantly surprised by this place.
Went here for lunch with the extended family last time they came up to WI. Â This was back during March Madness, so I wanted to watch whatever game was on. Â We sat closer to the bar and no matter where I sat, I got a good view of the game. Â So, my first thought is that for any man, no matter how obnoxious the dancing might be, this is at least +1 on the rating.
Food and service were pretty good for a bar. Â Since we were close to the bar, I asked out of curiosity. Â Beer was kind of limited for a WI bar, but they have a ton of varieties of liquor, including (wait for it) horseradish vodka. Â Had we not been with family, I'd have gotten a shot of that just to see what it's like.
Overall, I'd go for lunch, but I like my bars to not be freakin' discos. Â Doubt I'd go here at night, but for a quick lunch or a beer after work, this is just fine.
Whoa, I didn't know this place served food. Â
Anyway, this is pretty much the only bar that offers dancing in Lake Geneva, so this place can get pretty crowded. Â Especially in spring and summer when a lot of tourists are in town. Â The last time I went was during Lake Geneva's off-season and this place was still pretty packed. Â Every time I go, I have seen at least two bachelorette parties. Â Yes, it's that kind of place. Â I don't know if they were just trying to be a pain in my ass the last time I was there, but if you start a tab, every time you order you have to order from the same bartender you started with. Â Annoying. Â The music is usually your typical top 40's mixed with a little 80's and 90's. Â
If you're in LG and in the mood to dance, well...this is pretty much your only option.
We stopped in late morning for a cocktail and quick bite to eat before heading out on the boat. Â We tried their Reuben sandwich and Crab cake sandwich. Â Both choices were excellent. Â The Bloody Mary's were equally good although I would prefer a little more "salad" in my Bloody. Â All we got was a single celery stick. Â A few olives and a pickle wedge would have been nice. Â
Anyway, all in all, a good dining experience and we will be back.
Having been here before, and to many of the other local establishments, this place is better than average for me, being that I think I order the "right things".
Burgers are good, but I go for the Crab Cake Burger which I find to be very fresh, well seasoned, and very, very good. Â
On this visit we also had the French Onion Soup and she paired it with a salad and smiles were all I saw. Â
If you want a good place for lunch, don't want the noise of the local sports bar, this is a good option. Â Great staff working here and BTW---this is a very fun place at night. Â Worth tipping a few back at. Â And they are very adept at pouring more than wine and beer----great full bar.
Don't eat here. Â Seriously. Â The food is greasy and nasty, served on paper in crusty, never-get-cleaned wicker baskets and the place is filthy. Â The service is surly at best...if you can actually get it. Â Somehow I don't think they even pretend to care about the food service aspect of the place...after all, it's really just a dive-bar for bikers. Â Provision of food as an option seems just an afterthought to the reason people come here in the first place: to get hammered.
However, I have to give them an additional star for this reason: despite my "foodie" leanings, I come from a long line of white trash. Â Consequently I am a bit of a sucker for the spectacle of a Harley-ridin'-weekend-warrior-DUI-in-the-making. Â America is a rich fucking tapestry indeed.
