I gotta give this place a review... Â Their Mexican burrito could use a shot in the arm with a better recipe, but all-in-all everything was really good. Â Cold beers too. Â The large party we had somewhat confounded the young girls working there, I think a more regimented training would eliminate that, but besides that there was good service and free popcorn is nice. Â Good job.
Review Source:I wished I live in Michigan Coty, IN so I could come here every Friday for the clam chowder! Stopped by here with hubby and my mom while en route to the lighthouse mall then to blue chip casino. THE BEST clam chowder. WHOA...... Hubby made fun of me and asked if I wanted to lick the bowl clean. Freshly popped popcorn while you wait for your food! Good portions. Prompt and SUPER friendly service. Nice and clean bathroom (I am a bathroom observant. I dont care how nice and clean the rest of the restaurant is, if your bathroom is dirty, forget about it!)
Wished I live closer.
I ordered the Corned Beef Sandwich. Fries were extra for an additional $1.79. The sandwich was put together beautifully. The problem was the meat had no taste. None. You can taste the mustard and the bread. Just eat the meat and nothing. Best thing I ate was the popcorn and the pickle.
Review Source:I used to travel between Michigan and Chicago quite a bit. Â I've stopped at this place several times. Â What I like about it are three things... 1) Just some damn good home cooked food! Â Everything i've had on the menu is tasty and they give you great portions. Â 2) It is very affordable for what you get. Â You get big portions! 3) Lastly they have great service. Â I haven't had a bad server yet there and the food always comes out quickly. Â If you are in the Michigan City area and are trying to decide where to go, avoid all the chain restaurants and head to Hollys!
Review Source:Two years later, Holly's is still producing great food efficiently. Â On a recent visit we enjoyed the Nachos Grande (modified with no meat) and one of their large salads. Â The food is still "clean", well-presented and delicious. Â Popcorn is still plentiful as an addictive first course, booths are large and comfortable. Â Prices are great. Â As billed, it is an excellent family eatery. Â My friend likes the "Holly's Card" that provides points for free food for the locals, but I swear, she'd go there just for the popcorn!
(It's too bad there are 63 suspect "filtered" reviews--it detracts from the integrity of this place. Â I dropped a star for this concern--plus the Pepsi thang. Â This place is better than a Denny's but should be compared to this type of "family" eatery.)
The restaurant is easy to locate, and from the outdoors appears rather ordinary. Indoors, it's very pleasant with bold interior colors, good-sized booths and tables, and a bar area (which I didn't enter). Â There's a general feeling of order and cleanliness to the surroundings.
I enjoyed a chef salad with salmon, which was a lunch special. My son had a sirloin steak, which was cooked "medium" as ordered. Â Kudos to the waitress for checking with the kitchen about the BBQ Pulled Pork Nachos Grande, and letting us know the corn chips were NOT gluten-free. Â But point deducted for bringing out the salad with a big fat bread stick on top of it (gluten-free = no wheat, barley, or rye = no breadstick, please).
All things considered, Holly's is the sort of place that I would give a solid three-star rating when compared to St. Louis metro competitors. Â If I lived in Michigan City, and depending upon the competition, it might even become a regular casual or business lunch spot. Â If given enough time for yelp to really take hold in the area, then Holly's might eventually score pretty well.
