One of the best breakfast places I have been too! Â We are from the Chicagoland area, and have a few top favorites for breakfast food there, but this little gem hidden in Pepin was absolutely scrumptious! Â The "Monkey Cakes" were so yummy and the staff was so kind and friendly, we really loved the clean but vintage interior! This place is so quaint, I wish we could come again! Â If you live in the area you must, must, must try this place! Â Such a wonderful homemade experience, which is rare these days!
Review Source:Wow...here is a little piece of amazingness. Â The staff was super friendly, the coffee came non-stop, the food was outrageously tasty, and the interior was really neat.
This place is one of my top two favorite breakfast places hands down. Â This is a great place and a wonderful surprise in rural Wisconsin.
I really liked this local restaurant in Pepin. Â I ordered the sausage and bisquits special. Â It came with eggs and really fantastic hash browns. Â The hash browns were crunchy on the outside while still being soft and buttery. Â Yummy! Â This will be become permanent part of the schedule. Â On my next trip, I want to try the beautiful pie selection...
Review Source:I came here on a Sunday after staying in Red Wing, choosing this wonderful little establishment by reading the Yelp recommendations. I sat outside on a beautiful morning and enjoyed a truly great breakfast experience. They were busy inside, but I would never have guessed this considering the personal attention I received from the owner's husband who was my waiter. The ambiance was as you get at a good bed and breakfast. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â I had an omelet, which was very tasty, but the star that morning was a small side order of a freshly made biscuit and sausage gravy, a Sunday special! I sat there and said to myself "Now THAT is sausage gravy!" Â A northerner had just discovered the potential of this southern staple. Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â For dessert I had a piece of Strawberry Ice pie- new on the menu that morning and my waiter was anxious to have my opinion. Â A rich strawberry cream filling riddled with chunks of fresh strawberries and a flaky, buttery crust was an excellent companion to the good coffee.
I highly recommend this cafe.
I initially resisted going to Homemade Cafe for a year or so, based on the assumption that it would be "just like" the previous restaurant that inhabited the space. Boy, did I miss out!!
A friend and I drove over for a quick lunch and what a pleasant surprize it was to walk in the door. It was decorated very sparsely and tastefully, not "country bumpkin" at all - best of all, it was cleaner than a whistle!! A truly clean establishment gets high points from this reviewer and nothing was out of place here.
Julie, the owner, served us and she is the real deal my world - she is efficient, she listens, she cares - she hums along as she works! Our food was delicious. My friend had a mouthwatering piece of strawberry pie - if nothing else, go for the pie, or better yet, bring one home. I ordered the Reuben sandwhich with homemade chips. Yum. ( She even makes her 1000 Island dressing from scratch!) I can't wait to go back and try more items on the menu!
We had friends visiting us from Paris, Minneapolis and Harlem and we all convoyed to the Homemade for breakfast last week. It was so much fun and the food was really well made. Our waitress was a hoot!
Julie came over to our table and chatted with us and she is great. You can tell she cares and appreciates her customers! Yes, the Harbor View Restaurant in Pepin is also very good, but so very predictable and full of "foodies" from the city - go to the Homemade Cafe and forget the attitudes and lines. ( and save yourself some serious cash also! )
Go to the Homemade Cafe!
