Went here as a pregame for Coachella.  Kind of a hole in the wall, so it's easy to miss, but.... I probably wouldn't go here normally (also considering I'm not from here aside) unless I was craving some cheap booze and food.  It has a pretty grungy, divey feel.  Pizza is pretty good - has plenty of stomach lining grease.  Pretty standard cocktail/beer selection.  There are a few pool tables around as well.  Other than that, the place is pretty unremarkable/average.

Noted from another review: Clean your bathrooms.  Nothing like seeing mystery stranger splooge all over the place.  Gross.

THEY STOLE MY CREDIT CARD AND CHARGED PURCHASE ON IT WHEN IT WAS TAKEN FOR THE TAB!!!! Bar policy is to take a credit card when you purchase and ear at the bar. Fine, I can understand when you have a bunch of sketchy people that will dine and dash in a second. Didn't think anything of it until my credit card company called me 2 days later inquiring about some odd purchases made. Had I used that credit card anywhere else in the past 2 weeks, I could say that it may not have been someone at the Hood, but I can't so there it is. Thank God for fraudulent charge reimbursement. My advice, if you want obnoxious townies hollering their life story across the bar, warm stale beer, pizza that is forgettable as well as the headache of cancelling a credit card because of an employee with sticky fingers, eat here! You'll regret it I'm sure...

You can get herpes just from sitting on the chairs. Music sucks, quality of people is low. And you can find much better food else where. If your broke, and need to catch an std this is the place for u

Welcome to our Hood. We've been calling the surrounding area the hood, so its about time that its fine people had a common place to kick back with good eats and drinks and music. A few of those staff members are like family and they've got the Midas Touch when it comes to bringing in good music to the Desert. Ask for Brandon and tell em Large Marge sent cha. Actually tell him Melissa Jean sent you.

ATTN HOOD OWNERS: CLEAN YOUR BATHROOMS, CLEAN YOUR BATHROOMS, CLEAN YOUR (expletive) BATHROOMS. Every time I have been here I remind myself why I do not plan to return. I understand the whole "dive bar" claim to fame they have going on, however it is no excuse for such a disgusting, filthy, horrendously unsanitary business. They are making money hand over fist, pay a cleaning crew to come in and keep it CLEAN it is really not that difficult. The whole place is covered in grime. The bathrooms are vomit inducing, the hallway smells, do not set your purse down for fear of carrying a way a host of diseases and bacteria.

Silver lining: the bouncers are very nice and sweet (big guys in big black t-shirts).
Basically the only reason why I would ever step foot in here is because the head door man/bouncer is awesome, and his assistants all are a joy. Also there is a very good female bartender named Lacey I believe? Tall, slender, blonde, makes killer cocktails, treats me like royalty. These guys deserve 5 stars.

5 stars for Tony! "Because Tony was there...and Tony made it all better!" Rachel is hilarious and amazing too! Best duo ever (besides me and my bartending buddy, of course ;) )

It's a dive bar for twenty something's on a budget. If that isn't your scene I don't recommend it. Personally I avoid it because It is hard to avoid seeing people I went to high school with but was never friends with drunkenly trying to reminisce.

If you went to Palm Desert High it is the high school reunion bar.

Also you have to really fight for a pool table.

Why did our friends tell us this place had good pizza?? Because they were drunk when they ordered it.....that's why. We ordered the pizza, completely sober, and it was really bad. Ugh!

This review is for the pizza, not the bar.

We had heard a few good things about the pizza, so I decided to place an order, as my wife and I were craving a good pizza.  I walked in, and my first thought was, "yeah, this is definitely a hole-in-the-wall bar"...which made me question how they could possibly have such good pizza.  Is there some massive kitchen hidden in the backroom with people tossing dough, etc?   Oh well, decided to try it.

When we got the pizza home, you could just tell part or all of it had been frozen.  My wife thought it was literally a red baron pizza that they heated up.  I wanted to give The Hood the benefit of the doubt and told her maybe the dough was frozen and they thawed it and heated it up?   Either way, frozen pizza, no matter what the brand or how much it costs, always has a "distinct" taste.  You can just tell it's frozen.

In conclusion:  the pizza was horrible, and we paid $17 for basically a frozen pizza.  The reason people rave about the pizza is because they are intoxicated, they order, and anything would taste good to them at that point.

This is another great example of the "local" places that I love to try out. So many, like The Hood, are right under your nose...people just need to stop being led right into the same old mass marketed "Casual Dining" options and try something new...a bit more... "Hood-y". The Hood is located right off the major CA 111 that runs thru Palm Springs and surrounding cities. If you are looking for a bar to have a drink at or grab some live music then this is your place!
The hood is most definitely a bar first. They have a great selection of cocktails and beers, both local and main stream...they have a stage where they do get some great live acts, pool tables and I think I even saw a dart board. But...the hidden gem to The Hood Bar and Pizza...is the food. Particularly the pizza. I did watch from my seat at the bar as several small groups of people came in, kind of hesitated...and asked the gal at the bar if they had pizza. Both groups ended up staying and I could see they were glad they did! The pizza is a legit transplant from Brooklyn and is really dam good! I took an entire pizza back home and everyone commented on it. I also enjoyed an order of their house made poppers. It was great to see something that didn't resemble the battered, friend and frozen poppers that I can get in the grocery store. These were fresh jalapeno halves filled with cheese and bacon, then covered in cheese and baked. I could totally go for some right now!
The Hood is a great breath of bar vibe in a town full of commercial bulk packaged drink and food stops. Stop in, tell em GusL sent you  and buy me a drink!

This bar lets obviously belligerent drunk people drive home and in the process they total an innocent victims truck.  It was his only means of transportation to work so he can support his family of four.  So thank you The Hood for being such a responsible bar and to your bartenders for serving him that last beer! I hope that $3 you earned was worth ruining an innocent mans only way of providing for his children.

Went here for a few drinks with my lady. Walked up to the bar and was ignored for several minutes and finally i got my jack and coke which was 6 dollars. i handed the bartender aka Fish a 20 and he gave me back 4 dollars and walked away. I tried to get his attention to tell him he gave me wrong change, he ignored me so i yelled "HEY" and he came over. I told him i gave you a 20 and u only gave me four ones he turned around got the ten he owed me didnt say sorry or nothing didnt say a word cause he knows he tried to rip me off! At this point i was pissed i called him a "fucking asshole" and walked away. A minute later im being thrown out by the bouncers and they cant even say why. This is ridiculous i will never recommend this bar, and i encourage no one to spend your money here and if you do watch out for a guy named Fish. He wears glasses and a hat and has a horrible attitude.

You wouldn't expect much from this place- the green graffiti labeling its existence on 111 is god awful.

But the hood delivers a good Friday or Saturday night for the under 50 crowd which is hard to find in the desert.  The drinks are super cheap the bar is spacious and they do live music with a dance floor.

The weekend I was there a fabulous rockabilly band, the deadbeat daddies were playing; they were great musicians, and even their original music was good.

Totally gonna be apart of my pub crawling when I'm in PD.

This review is for the bar aspect only, not the food.

The bar itself is adequate, but the atmosphere is much more vibrant than even the other busy bars around the neighborhood. The crowd is young. The beer is cheap. There are a couple of pool tables.

I'm mostly excited to see a bar int he area with a real stage for live music and a desire to promote live music. I just wish the bands that came through were more relevant to today's crowd, not what was popular over a decade ago.

What to say, what to say.... Some things however, will be left UNSAID...

Stayed at the JW and had no idea where to go on a Thursday, as everything in our hotel was shut down by 10. So the cab driver told us about this place. Small little dive bar (no cover) down a few blocks.

The prices are insanely cheap! I was blown away! I got a Knob Creek on the rocks, practically a double, cost $7! say what?! Normally in LA that would cost me almost triple the price.

There is one bar, a pool table, stage, I assume they have entertainment other nights. But I just had friends dancing on it.

Met some fun people there, friendly place, granted there weren't many there.

Overall, your typical dive bar, though with great prices!

This place has great drink specials and the food is good and reasonably priced. I had the Chicken Tenders which were yummy and delivered quickly, my friend ordered a slice of pizza that I easily would have guessed to be a quarter of a pizza pie (BIG serving). As a venue this place is friendly, though I would caution, given the acoustics that you plan to have ear plugs. The ambiance is really cool, and it seemed to me the bouncers were pretty laid back albeit still keeping an eye on things. All in all, a good vibe, food is good and I look forward to returning.

Best Pizza in Cali! You can't beat The Hood plus the drink prices are insanely cheap for anywhere and they are always good on the pour. Great staff fun environment. If you appreciate a true pizza/bar that brings in good music and good people its a must stop.

The ONLY place in the desert, where you can get dive bar drink prices, really GOOD Pizza, and hear some live music.....all without breaking the bank.

The Hood reminds me of many SoCal beach joints. They play everything from Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop to all-out Punk. The 12" slice of $5 pizza is so good and tasty and a real, quality slice of NYC-style pizza...compared to those floppy, greasy pizzas found everywhere else.

My mom used to own the building years ago, as a swanky supper club. Now, the funky, ghetto ambiance reflects an LA type dive - in the middle of the searing desert.

    Whadup, yo!

If you are looking for a dive bar that was transported straight out of Long Beach this is the place to go. Went here last night with some friends for their $1 Pabst Blue Ribbon night and it did not fail to deliver what we were expecting. There are 2 pool tables, a stage, and a juke box.

I tried the chicken parm sandwich and my friends got a pizza. Overall food quality was above average for bar food, but did take a while to get there. Go in here expecting a dive bar with cheap drinks, decent food, and a fairly friendly crowd and you will have a good time.

While I like this place a lot as an alternative to the soulless piano bars and corporate theme lounges that riddle this part of the Coachella Valley, I have to do a negative review of The Hood for my last visit (note that the one star is just for that visit; I'd normally give the place four).  Last night (Thursday, April 12, 2012), we drove down from Palm Springs to have a couple of beers, eat a pizza, and catch some of the first band that would go on at 9pm.  When we arrived around 7:45pm, the doors were locked with a handwritten note that the place would be closed from 7 to 8, apparently due to the need for a sound check.  OK, cool.  While I would rather have spent my money at The Hood because it's a relatively new business and deserves local support, we walked over to Cactus Jack's for a quick cocktail to kill some time.  When we returned at 8:10pm (and now really starved for something to eat), the doors were still locked, with a small crowd forming outside.  A couple of knocks brought out the guy who usually handles the door. He apologized and said it would be just a couple of minutes until a sound check was done.  OK, cool.  We can wait.  A couple of minutes turned into ten, then twenty, and eventually the door man came outside to wait with us, apparently as confused as anyone why the bar wasn't open yet.  By 8:40pm we got tired of waiting out in the cold with no information about when the bar would open, and went off to sit in the car to watch and wait, and we expected to see the door to open in just a minute or two to hear an employee apologize for what seemed like an unnecessary delay.  Never happened.  When 9:00pm came and went, we finally went elsewhere to eat and drink.

I understand unexpected delays.  What I don't understand is being rude to customers.  About every five minutes it seemed, one of the employees would stick his or her head outside, look around, flash a goofy smile, and then shut the door without saying a word as to when the place would finally open.  No updates, no explanations, no thanks for our patience.  It seemed to a lot of folks waiting outside that the bar's staff was enjoying the fact that a small crowd was gathering and being left out in the dark.  All it would have taken was a quick announcement early on that the 8pm opening time was overly optimistic and that the doors wouldn't open until at least 9pm.  If I had known that at 8:15 or 8:30, I and others in the crowd could have made other plans, decided to return much later when the bar would definitely be open, or decided that the most fun we could possibly have in the entire Coachella Valley was to just stand there and wait.  Not knowing that, and even worse hearing from people going in and out of the door who really didn't know one way or another that it would be just "another couple minutes", meant that we all had to cool our heels and wait like good little boys and girls.

This sort of experience is common in Los Angeles, where sleazy lounge owners get their rocks off when they see long lines of people standing outside like lemmings for the privilege of begging to be let in.  I always thought that The Hood was different, and I hope that it was just an off night for them.  Maybe this was the first time on the job for the people manning the sound board, who it seems consumed a world record two hours just to fiddle with a few knobs and sliders (hey, it's the standard small bar layout, not the Disney Concert Hall).  Dunno.  What I do know is that the bar's management should have taken control of the situation early on, and either let people in (believe me, it's not impossible to do a sound check while a customer is drinking a beer) or clearly informed everyone shortly after 8pm that they were in for a long wait.  That's what professionals do.

Went to "The Hood" for the first time last night. We've driven by it many times, and there's no way to know that this place is a bar, serves pizza, and has live music from the outside. There are no windows, just a grey building with a graphite-style "The Hood."

We got there around 8:45 p.m. and the place was dead. We went out to the patio with some friends and ordered a pizza and some drinks. Drinks were good. Pizza was greasy, simple, but decent. By the time we went back in around 10:30 p.m. the place was packed and a live band was playing.

All in all, if you're there at the right time it can be a cool place to hang with friends.

For all intents and purposes, the Hood is cool, it's a dive and it host's great music. We have been going here since they were at their old location and the vibe is always great.
The bartenders are bit slow on really busy nights, but I've never gone without a drink for too long! The pizza is huge and very good. It is definitely a spot for those who want a beer, huge slice, and music to go with it.

The Hood is a really great, little faux dive bar. I'm not a big drinker, so I've never gotten that, "Did you just seriously order a coke?" attitude some other local bars can give off. If I do drink, they have Stella on tap, which is one of my faves. There are always an ample amount of bartenders, so you never have to wait too long for a drink.
The shows they have hosted are super rad and almost always free. It's so refreshing that there is a venue that doesn't have the same four local bands playing over and over again each weekend.
The pizza is awesome and a great price for so much food.

Been to the Hood twice now and both times I left not needing to go back. Nothing wrong with the place and quite frankly they seem to be doing everything right. Prices are good, bartenders are efficient and friendly, and there is always someone their that I have been able to shoot the shit with.

I guess I'm just not into the dark subway tunnel feel of this bar or maybe I'm just set off when I look at the graffiti motif. Whatever it is I do not know, and I guess that is how I feel about this bar. Whatever.

I just wasn't all that impressed, but I'm not really sure why. It has a divey feel, but that's never been a problem for me in the past. The bartender was friendly enough, a pitcher of Stone IPA for $14 was a good enough deal, and the other patrons were friendly -- but I just didn't feel all that comfortable. Maybe it had something to do with the feng shui of the place; when you walk in the door, you're greeted by a strange u-shaped sliver of a bar, that is just wide enough for the bartender to walk through.

Also, the bathroom was pretty gross. I didn't have to use the toilet, which was a good thing, since there was a sign on it saying that it was out of order, and to use the women's room. I'll bet the women love that.

Opening night in the new spot was so cool!

Nice to have a fun place open late, younger crowd .... this may sound weird but the new huge ipod touch screen jukebox was fun to play songs on.

More bartenders needed for that opening crowd but the staff handled it so well and I didn't mind the wait. I was soaking up the enery and enjoying the crowd :)

My favorite pizza in the Coachella Valley!
Slices so big, you have to fold to eat!
Usually one slice is enough for me.
I recommend a slice of cheese pizza!
On some nights they have PBR for $1.

Located in a strip mall near the 7-Eleven, the place is a bit small, but the pizza is definitely worth it!

There is always an interesting mix of customers...

Last time I was there, they were only taking cash. I hope that was only temporary.

Don't forget to order at the bar!

Came in for lunch and the place was empty. We ordered a drink and a slice. The drink was in a cam which I can't stand when I eat out. And as for the pizza, it was old cheese pizza that was reheated. Old like hours old. Tonys pizza in a box is far better then this and a fraction of the cost.

Good late night food option if you don't mind hanging out with "bros."  It's cool what they did with this place though and it's very well located in Palm Desert.  Too bad the people that frequent this place always get too drunk and have to prove something.  It's still a better option than the Red Barn though and is one of those unfortunate situations where a few bad apples spoil the bunch.

Overall though this is a cool place with good, large slices of pizza with nice staff and ownership.  I hope these guys do well and open more locations.
