Very nice place to enjoy a drink and listen to some good live music.
Hooligan's is very spacious and there are plenty of places to sit. You can sit up close to the bar and really get an earful from the band, or you can hit the dance floor, or you can sit in the raised area toward the back of the bar that provides a better view of the band and a bit more quiet. The wait service is quick and friendly--they really keep the drinks flowing!
I really wasn't all too impressed by the band they had playing on Saturday night. They were having a good time, but definitely not masters of their craft.
Don't plan on making it up or down the steps if you are quite impaired or out of shape for that matter. Â For me I like it because I know this alone keeps out the "riffraff". Â Hahah.....I sound so Elitist...I like it :P
Stopping in here after a long day of teaching I needed a drink and wanted to try something new...It was a chill, cleaner and more charming version of Phoenix's Seamus McCaffery's Pub that in itself had me enjoying my selection. Â Ordering up a beer, the Bartender and I started talking (geekin' out) on Wiskey's and Scotches, he allowed me to smell sever and provided small tasters of some that intrigued me. Â This bartender was obviously more than a slinger of yellow carbonated light beer of the usual variety. Â I was getting schooled and I liked it. Â Yes, I am a total geek like that...
This has to me my new Whisky Row Stop.
This was the last stop on my Whiskey Row Bar Hop. Like most of the other places I hit, there was a small crowd on a Thursday night. I love the set-up of the this place. It is upstairs, and there is an elevated stage BEHIND the bar where a band was playing, So I could drink, watch the band and chat with the awesome bartender called Brian (or Ryan? I'd had a few at this point). They have a decent selection beers and cocktails. The requisite Irish paraphenia are all over the walls. The atmosphere is a mixture of Irish Pub meets Old West Saloon and they pull it off nicely.
I can't say enough about Brian (or Ryan). He was very friendly and enthusiastic and came to my rescue when I was out of smokes. This is a great example of how the bartender can make or break a bar. The only downside is that you have to go back downstairs to the street if you want to smoke.
Overall, a great place on Whiskey Row. The place was not dead on a Thursday night, nor was it overkill crowded. Defintely stop by. Of all the places I hit, Hooligans is in my top two.
Pretty cool place to hang out on a Saturday night while having some drinks. There is a live band on Saturdays and they have always been great ( different bands ). I have always had great service and drinks are reasonably priced. The crowd looked to be about 25-40 year olds....we will be back on our next visit to Prescott.
Note: There is a small dance floor, also NO food sold here
We love Hooligan's! While we aren't regulars, every visit has been great. Live music, good service, and the bar isn't big enough to feel like you get lost in the shuffle. We bring our friends from out of town here just to kick back and enjoy good company.
Highly recommended for laid-back, fun summer nights with friends in a fun bar with good atmosphere.
Visited this bar on 19 August 2009, which happened to be a local open-mic night. Â There was a great little stage behind the bar (and thus right in your face) upon which a long-haired guy stood with an acoustic 12-string, singing Cat Stevens and the like. Â I had a few drinks and proceeded to recruit a few crusty old dudes to sing backup as I borrowed an axe and performed some classics by The Band. Â Even though there wasn't much of a crowd, I had fun. Â I'd give this joint four stars if I had been able to get something to eat in there.
Review Source:It is a decent place when there are a lot of people in there. The bartender had a fake Irish accent (he used it with us but then used his real voice with a regular) which was weird. There was a band on the stage behind the bar which was awesome. Drank some Smithwicks then moved along. Free parking garage behind whiskey row!
Review Source:I've only ever been to Hooligan's once and it was on a Monday night. Â The bar tender was amazing and is probably most of the reason I gave this place four stars. Â It was refreshing for me to have a conversation with someone genuinely nice and knowledgeable (on booze and life). Â He even politely notified me that I had been pronouncing Smithwicks incorrectly as long as I've been saying it! Â It's smit-icks. Â The bar's second floor location in the middle of Whiskey Row allows for a great view of the courthouse. Â Overall, the decor was very much that of an Irish Pub, old mahogany tables and chairs with green upholstering. Â There's a stage with a pole (o-la-la) behind the bar, but unfortunately there was nothing going on while I was there. Â I also noticed that there was a dance floor and darts, neither of which were getting much use that Monday night. Â Hopefully I can stop by on a weekend!
Review Source:We went there last year and were very disappointed. Â This was not an Irish Pub by any means. The music was country and the server forgot to bring us some of our drinks. Not impressed, we stayed for one drink and went to Brian's Irish Pub = SO MUCH BETTER!! Too bad the bartender at Brian's said they are closing soon. Bummer.
Review Source:Long day (and night) at work, I decided I need to get out of my dingy hotel room and get some fresh air, and a drink. My original plan was to find a sushi joint to get a quick snack and a glass of wine, but the two Japanese places in town were just closing up.
So instead, I took a walk down Whiskey Row, and from the street, the live music coming from this upstairs bar caught my attention. I wandered up to the bar, and there it was.
Bud, aka the Budman, put on an amazing show. Armored with his electric guitar, 12-string, harmonica, and fancy homegrown backup music, he put on one hell of of show, mighty impressive for a small-town local bar. He even whipped out a great cover of Bohemian Rhapsody upon request - I was shocked!
Drinks were cheap, locals were friendly, and the live music was refreshing and warm. The bartender perhaps a little overzealous with the microphone and slightly unattentive to taking drink orders, but all in all I had a good time.
If you're looking for some entertainment, be it from the live music or the lively locals, then stop by and have a beer. I found it less-than-divey, welcoming, filled with music, and perfect for a quick drink and friendly interaction.
