Been eating around searching for a great cheese steak sub. Â I used to work in a sandwich shop many moons ago. Â We did everything fresh so my standards are pretty high. Â Onto the review.
Well this was another stop on my quest for the ultimate cheese steak sub. Â Went in around noon and placed my order: cheese steak, provolone cheese, mushrooms and onions. Â Lady asked the guy in the back if the meat had finished cooking, meaning that it's not cooked fresh to order, strike one. Â Grilled onions and mushrooms, removed from a Styrofoam container, again already cooked, strike two. Â All the ingredients are then placed in a serving basket, couple slices of cheese placed on top and into the microwave, strike three and this place is out of my list. Â
Not to my surprise time comes to eat and its a chewy, fatty, disappointment. Â
Go a couple miles eat on 312th street and hit Broadway Subs.
Solid choice for grubs on this side of the overseas highway. Hungry and in need to tie us over until we would hit Key West, we hit up this little House of Subs.
I need to give a shoutout to whomever decorated in here, I absolutely love the licenseplate covered wall. Yes, every other 50th or so bar has this, but I love 'em every single time all over again.
Onto the foodstuffs. Bread is homemade and good! I think there is about six flavors to choose from, I went with one and my family with the other (as usual).
I ordered a *small* tunasalad sub on honey wheat, and added banana peppers, lettuce, mayo, onions and tomatoes. Â The tunasalad was good, albeit slightly dry (yay for the mayo!).
My husband got ham, bacon and cheese with lettuce, onion, hot pepper relish and mayo on white (French).
The small sub size is rather large, I had trouble finishing it. The breads are definitely a winner, and as an FYI - all subs are toasted as a standard.
Stopped @ House of Subs for a quick lunch. Â It's located in the strip mall right next to Wal-Mart (facing Rt. 1 North). Â There was no wait on the day we visited. Â DW had a chicken salad sandwich on toasted french bread and I went with the BBQ steak. Â DW liked her's a lot but was unable to finish a small. Â Meat on mine was a little fatty but not too bad. Â The bread was very good. Â This place is definitely a step up from a Subway Blimpies and their prices are about on par with the bigger chain sandwich shops.
