A new restaurant, and a great addition to Salisbury.
This place isn't fancy or expensive, but the food is good, the live music good too. Â There are some fancy seafood/crab restaurants in town, which I feel are pretentious and not that good. Â There are lots of cheapo places and fast food worth avoiding.
This is a relatively new restaurant, and I think it's a keeper. Â We ended up going back again -- it's both a good value and a genuine neighborhood pub, despite its location in a strip mall. Don't be deterred, it's worth a visit.
I had the stew, my sister had a burger. Both were good. Â The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere inside was very pub-like (hard to do in a strip mall).
I'm a fan.
Food was above adequate, but atmosphere was sub-par. Very long wait with uncomfortable (straddling a barrel) seating. Â Manager came mid-meal to take one of our chairs away and seemed annoyed that we hadn't used the barely visible hook on the bottom half of the barrel to hang a coat. Â Also, seated near the bar, there was typical, non-sensical conversation that was loud and difficult to tolerate. Â Most of the staff was attractive, including our waitress Megan, who seemed very nice. Â Too much emphasis on aesthetics, and too little on customer service, but, it's a bar by a college, so that is to be expected.
Review Source:I and a friend decided to try The Irish Penny one rainy Tuesday night and see what was up with this new "mysterious" place that has opened in the wake of the Japanese restaurants' closing.  I can tell you Salisbury has needed an Irish/Gaelic/Celtic place as it has never had one before, and The Penny pretty much fits the bill.  I started with a salad of hydroponic Bibb Lettuce accented with spinach leaves, tomatoes and thinly sliced carrot.  The Raspberry Walnut Vinagrette was a delicious choice of dressing.  The Penney has alot of authentic Irish dishes for enjoying like "Bangers & Mash", Guinness Stew, Fish and Chips & Sheperd's Pie.  We both had the Salmon, grilled, which came on top of spinach and stewed cherry tomatoes.  The side of cabbage was flavored really good with what tasted like bacon and did not taste like cabbage at all.  That's how I like my cabbage.  It was quite wonderful.  My dining companion ordered a piece of the Chocolate Cake for dessert which was about the size of a small phone book, no kidding.  They also had a Bread Pudding with a sweet Irish Whisky sauce on top available.  I opted out of dessert since I was trying to watch my weight.  Many, many Guiness plaques on the walls but also Irish Whiskey signs, too.  Shades of brown are the dominant colors in the place, not alot of green but I guess that would be too much like the bars trying to be Irish with green & shamrocks plastered everywhere, The Irish Penny aims for authenticity.  The place upon first look is gorgeous and the "high top tables" for two are atop wine barrels.  Don't worry, it works.   The Plasma TV's are all tuned to Soccer ("Football") games.  The Whiskey, Wine & Beer lists are all impressive.  Many brands of Irish Whisky available including Bushmill's, Jameson, John L. Sullivan & Tullamore Dew.  I'm not into Wine but the lists seemed sufficient to me.  For Beer you have to  have Guinness in order to make an Irish Pub, but there are other Irish beers available, too.  The Craft Beer list is good, they even have The Brewer's Art Resurrection Ale from Baltimore in stock!  I liked the place & think it's a welcome addition to Salisbury's restaurant canon.
Review Source:Tried The Irish Penny Pub and Grill for the first time this past weekend. Even though it's an Irish Pub, I was able to get an amazing Margarita from the bar while waiting to be seated for dinner. I have to admit it was quite crowded, but in a fun sort of way. Saw some old friends, and made some new ones. The menu was filled with many mouthwatering choices which made it very difficult to choose. We both ended up ordering the corned beef sandwich considering we thought it would be appropriate. It was so good that I have already told so many people to go in and try it. Of course next time, I don't know how I am going to choose considering everything on the menu is calling my name. All this while being delightfully entertained by a live band.
Kudos and best of luck, you are doing great so far!
