Very cute. Â A great idea that has gone wrong somehow. Â The server and greeter were very nice and the service was fast. Â But... the food was just, well, not good. Â I hate to be so negative about a family business. Â There are very little options in this small, adorable town. Â The menu looked fantastic. Â I have a habit of checking reviews when I go somewhere as well as hoping for a "deal" when I check in. Â Sadly, everything I read was true. Â The gyro was the worse I've had and my husband;s burger was dry and not as good as a fast food burger. Â The homemade chips are a great idea in theory but in reality they are greasy and unappetizing. Yikes! Â I feel so mean saying all of this because I want a family owned place to succeed. Â We love non-chain restaurants as rule but we actually would have liked Subway more.
Review Source:being one of the few places to eat in Santa Claus Indiana, I was hoping this would be a little better than what I had. The place was nice, the atmosphere was nice, it billed itself as a family sports pub and it looked like it.
The food selection was decent, a smaller menu of pub oriented food items, I decided to have the Gyro. the wait for the food wasn't too long and when it arrived it was presented very nicely. Â I was somewhat disappointed with the Gyro, Â the meat was a variation of Gyro meat, and really didn't have too much flavor, there were also roasted peppers on the gyro, something I have never seen before, Â not being a fan of them I removed them promptly from my gyro.
I ate the entire thing, and no it never really satisfied my appetite, the other 2 people I was with both enjoyed their meals so 2 out of 3 isn't really bad. Â would I go back for a second chance eating? yes there were a few other items on the menu I will be willing to try to give them a redeeming review and raise the score up.
I have to say that my first dining experience here was swayed towards leaning more positive due to the excitement of having a new place to eat in our small town. Â I've been back again and now that the excitement has worn off, I wasn't so impressed. My gyro was so-so and when I asked for lettuce to be added to it, two big lettuce leaves were added rather than shredded lettuce, which is what I usually have been served on a gyro. The fried pickles were really greasy, but the sweet potato fries were good.
On our first visit, we were told that the small round tables were delivered by mistake & would be replaced with the more functional tables that were originally ordered. That hasn't happened & the tables they currently use are not comfortable for more than 2 people - that's how small they are. And call me picky, but I just don't like receiving my silverware in a little plastic Baggie.
I had high hopes for this place and I'm not giving up on it yet. It was closed most days during the winter, but hopefully their business will pick up now that Holiday World is open. I plan to give it another try & I'm hoping I will be able to revise my rating. We'll see.
