    Worst Restaurant Experience I've Had
I had heard rave reviews about this place from associated who had been there, so I took my girlfriend for a sushi date on a Friday evening. The atmosphere was beautiful, the food was pretty good (the wait was a bit long...), and the servers were kind. The place gets one star because all of that went downhill when there was something we ordered that wasn't satisfactory. The shrimp roll we ordered had a lot of cream cheese in it that overpowered the taste of the shrimp. My girlfriend tried one piece of it and couldn't eat the rest for that reason. We told the server and asked if it could be exchanged for something else. The server warned us that the answer would probably come back "no", but went and asked anyway. He came back a few minutes later and confirmed the answer. We then asked for other options. The server came back and told us that the manager said we had to pay for it and there were no other options. So we asked to talk to the manager, who we'll call Johnny. Johnny comes to our table and asks what the problem is and crosses his arms. We explain that one of the rolls we ordered was unsatisfactory, to which he replies, "You ordered it, so you have to pay for it". Johnny goes on waving his hands and raving about how he has a lot of customers and how they want to take advantage of him and not pay. We (still politely at this point) tell him that it's not our goal to take advantage of him or anyone, show him the largely uneaten shrimp roll as proof and asked if there were any options to resolve this issue. Johnny says, "I COULD CALL THE COPS...", insists that he has to stick with his standards, and demands that we pay or talk to the police. I've never been more insulted or bullied as a customer in my life. Avoid this place like the plague, people.

As a regular at Johnny's, the food AND service is always wonderful! In regard to "Jill S'" review, I've been served by the American male server plenty of times and he's always very pleasant and highly efficient! Go for yourself and be the judge. He's an asset to Johnny's Sushi House!!!

The food at Jonny's is fantastic but the service is absolutely horrible!!! I live local and usually go to dinner there regularly but not anymore. Servers will pass by you 3 or 4 times seeing your empty drinks without offering you refills. The american male server there is extremely rude and provides terrible service. He is not friendly, and good luck if you need anything, he acts extremely bothered to get you so much as a refill. He will bring your check while you are still eating. Finally we decided to ask for another drink after receiving our bill without being asked and he made it very clear we were not welcome there any longer (even though we were friendly and said thank you for everything he brought us.) Unfortunately this is not the first time we have had a bad encounter with him at Johnny's and for this reason we will not be returning.

Went here for lunch one day. It was an awkward time, and no one was in there but this place stays busy. There was nothing about our experience that blew us away, it was just ok. I've had better sushi other places and the service here wasn't all that friendly. Might have been the time we went but there wasn't much about our experience that will have us rushing back.

Wow....the food here was awesome! My wife and I agreed that this was the best we have ever had! And the pricing was excellent as well! The Service wasn't 5 stars but I think she was new and the other waiters helped tho.

My family went here when I was away and ate in the restaurant and said it was great. So we got take out and it was not exciting. The calamari was a shadow of what they were serving in the restaurant, kinda surprising and unfortunate.

The order they gave us wasn't quite right either. I had the teriyaki steak and chicken and while the meats were good quality they were pretty charred and the vegetables were huge!

Hopefully I can try eating inside next time and have a better experience because the counter/bar seemed to be really cool. For a small town it really says something that this place is always packed!

If you are driving from NYC to Washington DC, and you want a break from road stop food, try Johnny's! It's right off 95. The service is fast. The food is reasonably priced and the rolls are good. The Ambiance is half Japanese, half maritime themed. But they have the usual suspects on their enormous menu. I went with 6 co-workers and no one was disappointed.

Unexpected gem!  Judging from the outside you wouldn't think to stop in here for food, let alone sushi; but it's A MUST!  The food was great, and the fish was very fresh.  Only complaint is the prices seem a tad high, rumor has it they've recently raised their prices due to renovations.  Either way, I use to only get sushi in downtown Baltimore, but now I can get it a lot closer to home!  Honestly one of Cecil Counties best restaurants!!

Not bad. Pretty good, but doesn't manage to really escape the whole Americanized-sushi thing, but that's to be expected, considering that when you run a business, you have to cater to your customers' tastes. Good food, decent service. Overall, for what it is, it's alright. Large selection of Americanized rolls, which I can't say much for, since I stuck to the more traditional nigirizushi.

Don't understand how this sushi house has 4.5 stars. Possibly because it is in the middle of nowhere with no competition locally.

The venue itself is attractive, clean and neatly organized. Service is also very good, friendly and attentive.

The sushi itself though - big let down. Disappointing 'long and thin' strips of fish makes the nigiri feel boring and predictable. The quality was not particularly good either, most notably for the white tuna. Also ordered the 'Alaskan Thunder' roll which was salmon avocado inside and yellowtail & jalapenos on the outside. Unfortunately it also came drenched in a horrific sauce which completely overpowered any of the delicate flavors of the fish and tasted of MSG.

The salmon avocado hand roll was wrapped with stale, chewy seaweed which ruined the roll completely.

I love this place! The best Sushi and Sashimi! And we also had Chicken & Broccoli. It's a very small place so if you come at prime hours it's worth the wait. The staff was very professional and tentative. If you don't want to wait try togo, portions are no diff. and just as yummy!

My husband and I have been here multiple times because it is near our home. The restaurant recently expanded and has double the amount of tables. Gone is the hour wait for a table, if you can find a parking space in the tiny, poorly designed parking lot.

We don't often make reservations but even when we do we have to wait at least 10 minutes for a table. This place is great at getting sushi out for 2 but if there are more than 2 of you be prepared to wait for over an hour for your food. On 2 separate occasions we brought friends to try their wonderful sushi and we ended up waiting for over an hour to get our food (or a second drink!).

If you can get past the lousy parking and the long wait for your food (for parties of 3 or more) you'll be rewarded with a beautifully decorated plate and some good sushi. The sushi selections for signature rolls is pretty typical and while the menu is creative, it isn't anything I found to be unique or earth-shatteringly original.

Sushi in this area is nearly impossible to find. While the service could use some work and the kitchen couple be a little faster we've NEVER been disappointed by our food. There isn't another decent sushi place with 30 minutes of our home so this little hidden gem is well worth the wait for us. This place is no Sushi Hana (Towson, MD) but it is by far the best sushi you'll find in the area.

Best sushi I've ever had, but prices are very high and I heard they raised their prices significantly in the last year due to their success. It's tough because I feel like I have to spend $50 on sushi in order to fill up, which isn't how it should be. Would be a 5 star if not for the prices...

I love sushi. I have to echo what many people already said. The sushi tastes FRESH!  The sashimi is thick! Let me tell you, I went to a highly rated sushi place in Baltimore and their sashimi looked like the ginger, it was so thin.

Downfall? The service. Once it got going, it was good. But we were seated for at least 10mins before anyone even acknowledged us. And

BY FAR the best place to get sushi, rolls and sashimi...we have been going here for about a year now and every time we go, we LOVE what we get...my favorite is the Spider Man Roll, Hawaiian Roll and Philly Roll...a new try was the Beef nagati...and it was amazing.  They just expanded and opened it to the public two days ago and the decor is Beautiful...service is friendly, presentation is amazing and the food is just wonderful..you will be missing out if you don't try this place...and to think..it's in my back yard here is in Cecil County...:)

As someone who is not an adventurous eater I wasn't thrilled when my two friends wanted to go here to eat and left me without much of a choice. I had tried sushi on previous occasions and it didn't sit right with my taste buds.

I was surprised at how small the restaurant was when we arrived since it looked bigger from the outside like a reverse TARDIS and after a glance at the menu, I saw they had a few other things than just sushi to chose from and I went with the crab ragoon which came out hot and crispy but not overly so. My friend's weren't having any of that and I got pushed into trying some of their sushi. Unfortunately I can't remember all of the names but the sunset rolls and johnny's special were both AWESOME! This place definitely turned my opinion and stomach on sushi around and I would gladly visit it again.

I've been here 7+ times now and they've been pretty darn consistent. Service is good every time as well regardless of our timing, party size (usually quite large for an establishment this size) as well as requesting all separate checks every single time.

They have very good fried rice dishes (chicken or beef- sometimes beef is a little funky tasting though- chicken is always consistent). Their sushi is also always fresh and good. I always order the kaki fry (fried oysters) as an appetizer and it is also always very enjoyable.

All day happy hr on tuesdays!

Coming from California where the sushi-boom started, I had very low expectations of the sushi over here (especially Perryville) but was pleasantly surprised by Johnny's. Give this place a try if you can.

This is BY FAR the best sushi place in Harford or Cecil Counties!!

The price is unbeatable and the food is great!

As a vegetarian, I'm especially pleased that there are veggie rolls (already) on the menu.  Most places give me a bit of a hassle when I go to order something not listed.  The rest of my family eats meat, and they LOVED the double crab roll and crazy rolls.  They were even surprised at how tasty my veggie gyoza was.
Just to note; we got pork and veggie gyoza to start, hesitating but eventually deciding to order them fried rather than steamed.  These were ACTUALLY pan fried gyoza, not the sticky greasy mess most places around here serve.

The worst thing about this place is the horrible exterior, but inside it has a great cozy feel.  Definitely not fancy, but it is our new go-to for all sushi occasions!

I agree with many of the other reviewers. Do not be put off by the storefront. The Sushi at Johnny's is excellent and the service is great too. I had the Sushi/Sashimi lunch special for $14.95. Great food at very good value.

I think some of the previous reviews were spot on:

    1.  The place looks like an absolute dive from outside.  It is relatively clean inside, but could use some sprucing up.
    2.  The server we had spoke very little/no English.  It was not very easy to order, but this is not why I am giving them three stars.
    3.  The prices are incredibly reasonable!
    4.  I am giving them 3 stars because I was not very happy to receive my spicy tuna and it was warm (besides nowhere near spicy).  I can understand the rice being warm, but the tuna was quite warm.  Half of our order was relatively cold (we ordered 4 rolls with either raw tuna or salmon) and the other half was warm.

I have worked in enough restaurants to know how important it is to store fish properly and keep it both in a properly maintained refrigerator and covered in ice.  I am not certain this is totally the case at Johnny's, but I am not certain I will return.  When it comes to sushi, I am incredibly careful.

We have been to this place a few more times and while the food is still very good, there is one server that is so frustrating (and she is ALWAYS there and is often the only server working) that we probably will not come back (or we will just walk out if she has to be our server).  I'm not sure she understands much English and while I've had that happen before at Asian restaurants - never to this degree.  We have tried to place orders over the phone and ended up hanging up and eating elsewhere because she makes placing an order such a nightmare.  When dining in - forget asking a question about anything on the menu.  You will get a blank look, spend 5 minutes trying to rephrase your question, she will repeat your question to you maybe 5 times and you will still end up with a blank look and her just saying "no", whether you asked a yes or no question or not.  Last time we were there, I asked for tamari since I have issues with gluten - I got the blank look, she said "tamari" about 3 times, more blank look, and then finally "No".  Of course.  They have a young girl who works there sometimes and she is just wonderful - can explain anything on the menu for you and can make recommendations like a server should do - she is excellent.  They should have her around more!

Awesome place. I go for the presentation as much as I do for the great food. Looking at the exterior, you would drive right by if you didn't know there was a gastronomic paradise inside the nondescript building. But to be honest. I am glad its no so obvious, because the dining area is pretty small, and it does get busy.

Lets keep this our open secret place to gorge out on great sushi and sushimi.

I have eaten at Johnny's four times and hope to eat the there four hundred more times and try something new and wonderful each time. Johhny is a joyous innovative sushi chef whose creations transcend sushi conventions. The super volcano role contains warm crab and spicy salmon-the flavor explodes in your mouth. The Barbecued squid was sweet, savory with se same seeds and just enough vinegar in the sauce to add a little kick. The tea had a deep smoky flavor. the service is warm, friendly, and fast.  Whenever I am driving from N.Y.C. to D.C. I will try to make Perryville my pit stop.

Do not let the outside of this restaurant fool you!

I tried this place on a whim because I was sick of all the fried food in this area
The sushi is very fresh. The staff is very nice. Prices are reasonable esp the lunch menu prices!
    Must Try!!

Suprisingly good!! I was reluctant to try it out, mainly because of the location. Perryville is not exactly known for high quality dining, and considering the establishments that preceeded Johnnie's in that building...I was leery of the quality. But I took the plunge, and ordered several rolls, along with the seaweed salad and miso soup. Not only are the portions generous, the food is awesome. Definitely recommend this place!

Just down the road from the Hollywood Casino this small family owned restaurant has high end sushi and great noodle dishes. Fair prices and friendly staff. I see them moving on to a larger building with more parking.  Its my new favorite sushi place and it puts Blackstones on Long Island to shame.

You generally don't expect great sushi in Cecil County, but this place has it. They have a pretty wide selection of sushi and sashimi so it took a while to decide what to get. Everything I ended up getting was delicious from the dumpling soup and texas and super volcano rolls to the tempura green tea ice cream for dessert. I'd definitely go again.

While driving through the state of Maryland on our way further south we were hitting supper time and decided to turn to Yelp for well rated restaurants in the vicinity we were in.

One of the top restaurants listed was Johnny's Sushi House.  The recommendations were excellent so we decided to go in.

I started with a miso soup and found it to be very tasty.  My daughters loved it as well.  For the main dish I ordered the sashimi deluxe chef's choice and found it to be very, very fresh and delicious.  My daughters had a few shrimp tempura (very crisp and tasty) as well as some nigiri (crab, shrimp, flying fish roe) while my wife had some maki rolls (californi and spicy salmon.

Everyone enjoyed the meal and I was trying to figure out if I can stop for lunch on our drive back north.

    You will not be disappointed.

We love this place...we have been going almost every week since they opened earlier this year. Johnny and his staff are awesome! The foods is awesome... Fresh, reasonably priced and they have some interesting dishes you don't find at most other japanese restaurants. Keep up the great work!

Like going to see a mindless action movie, please set the bar appropriately.  If you were someone who thought 'The Expendables' was a bad movie because the dialog lacked depth, you may be missing the point.  That is to say, if you're looking for haute Japanese cuisine, don't bother.  But if you're looking for good, simple, fresh Sushi (and awesome steamed Gyoza), this place rocks!  Johnny's price points are spot on and the most important point is, if you live in North Eastern Maryland, this is all we have, so pleeeeeease patronize this restaurant.

Went here for lunch today and it has to be some of the freshest sushi in all of Cecil County (Ceciltucky)!  We were skeptical about the quality of fish, but the sashimi melted in your mouth and the sushi rolls had some awesome fixins'. Large variety of in-house and take-out sushi platters.

P.S - This place used to be home to Mom's Kitchen.
